Dan Quinn says he’s focused on his current job, not his next one

Although NFL rules prevent it from being officially announced until Monday, everyone knows that Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will be the next head coach of the Falcons. But even though Quinn will take a big step in his career next week when he becomes a head coach for the first time, Quinn says all of his focus is on Super Bowl Sunday.

Quinn said at Super Bowl Media Day that he appreciates the NFL rule that allowed him to interview with the Falcons during the Seahawks’ bye week, and that he’s having no trouble keeping his focus on the Super Bowl.

“The interview process allows us to go through it during the bye. I am appreciative of how the NFL does that. It is pretty easy to get right back into focus to play in this situation,” Quinn said.

Quinn said it would be crazy to be at the Super Bowl and allow his focus to be on anything else.

“This is such a cool experience,” Quinn said. “Where else would you rather be?”

Quinn has decided he would rather be in Atlanta than Seattle. But not until after the Super Bowl.

  1. seattle (small s) is really going to suck next season, the two masterminds behind the past two season will be gone off to much better organizations and much much cleaner cities. Jacksonville and Atlanta.
seattle (small s) will be back to the door mate that real NFL fans remember that they were….well forever.
My only question I have to axe is to all the seattle (small s) who you gonna root for now? Back to rooting for the huskies I speck?

  2. That’s not weird…I always take a bag of footballs with me when I use the bathroom…

  3. Im so glad that he said this because there are people out there who have made crazy comments about his focus being put on Atlanta instead of the SB which makes no sense to me at all.

  4. As a Panthers fan, I congratulate the Falcons on what seems to be an excellent pick for their next head coach…welcome to the NFC South, Mr. Quinn!

  5. Great hire for the Falcons. He was a much better DC than Bus Gradley ever was. Plus, he inherits a very good QB in Ratt Myan so all he has to do is fix the defense and overhaul the trenches.

  6. Open letter to Dan Quinn: Draft only defensive players in 2015 except for cornerback. Same with free agency except for a pass catching tight end. Levine Toilolo looks like a no-no.

  7. He’ll be successful in Atlanta. He’s got the QB, he’s got a couple of good receivers, just needs to add some defensive players….

…. oh, and maybe the firing of ‘boy wunder’ Thomas Dimitroff. Should’ve been fired with Smith.

  8. Shinnbone, you do know that Pete Carroll is the true DC of this team, right. It’s his system installed. Quinn helped a lot (d line success) but Carroll is the mastermind (like Bill B. In NE). I suspect Kris Richard will be the DC (promoted from CB coach).

  9. Last year the Falcons had a really good offense and an absolute terrible defense. This year I expect the defense to be much improved and pray Kyle Shanahan doesn’t do what he does best which is destroy offenses.

  10. Atlanta fans will find out real quickly how good of a coach he is without those stellar defensive players.
    Spagnuolo version 2.0.

  11. With the talent he has on D, what kind of time does he really need to commit to work? (3 deep zone and let them at it)

My Grandma could be their DC and still catch her afternoon nap.

  12. Playing against broken offenses over the last half of the season didn’t hurt his stock either.

Green Bay was the closest thing to an intact O they have played in a long time and they ran seattle up and down the field even with a hobbled Rodgers.

Matt of course I knew Carroll has a defensive background but I also know when doesn’t have other exceptional defensive minds on his staff he’s just not very good. When Pete inherited the Pats in 97 coming off a SB appearance they went 10-6, 9-7, 8-8 before being canned.
2 Years later under Belichick SB Champs. Basically the same team and the rest is history.
