Seahawks G.M. hopes Marshawn makes up mind soon on 2015

It’s too soon to say whether Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has played his last game. But Seahawks General Manager John Schneider hopes to find out soon.

Schneider said on 710 ESPN that the Seahawks don’t know if Lynch wants to keep playing, but that the Seahawks hope to have a decision from him soon so they can know whether they need to look elsewhere for help at running back. The Seahawks appear willing to give Lynch a raise in order to get him to play. His current deal calls for a $5 million base salary, plus $2 million in per-game roster bonuses and up to $500,000 in incentives based on rushing yards.

Although Schneider wants a decision soon, he seems to realize he might not get one. According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, Schneider said the Seahawks know a decision from Lynch on playing next season “may not happen overnight.”

At a time when running backs have been devalued across the NFL, Lynch may be more important to his team than any other running back in the league. That’s why the Seahawks are willing to give him his time, and willing to give him more money if that’s what it takes to get him back. But it’s also why the Seahawks are hoping to find out soon if Lynch is going to retire: Replacing Lynch would be a major offseason task.

  1. Russell Wilson better pray he returns or the exposure of him as a one-read, below average, jump ball passer will be even more glaring in 2015.

  2. He will … once he’s sure he drained out as much media attention as possible. He should change his name to Kardashian.

  3. leave the guy alone ..you let Doug Baldwin take the whole year off with pay, why not Lynch?

  4. Marshawn will be back. He’s not heading to Oakland genius. Not this year. He is under contract for next year. It’s play for the Hawks or sit out till game 10, report for the last 6 to make this a qualifying year, and be a fa next year.

They will get the deal done. The concern, for Hawks fans, is based on how much Beast wants, is there gonna be enough to get Wags done. Beast and Wilson will get done. After that, it’s going to be tough with Maxwell and Wags.

    Go Hawks.

  5. Perhaps Carroll needs to convince Marshawn and us that the Seahawks offensive coordinator will truly revamp his strategy.

“You run to score and pass to win.” Seahawks needed to SCORE in the last minute of the Super Bowl.

  6. Clayton said yesterday that he’s not optimistic that a deal with Lynch will get done.

In that case I hope that we make a run at Suh.

  7. The Seahawks need to pay Wilson. They need to pay Lynch. There’s simply not enough cap money to maintain the team that just played in the Superbowl.

Has it sunk in yet, Seahawks fans? That was as good as it’s ever going to get. If you couldn’t win the big one with that team, it’s not happening.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath and imagine that final play on offense. Imagine Lynch getting the hand off and blasting it into the end zone for the win.

Can you picture it? Is it clear in your minds? Maybe you can even hear the 12th man erupting in euphoria as Lynch seals the win. Back to Back Superbowls for the first time in a decade!

Now hold onto that vision, Seahawks fans. Hold it close to your heart. Because you are going to need this fantasy to keep you warm at night during the years of cold, gray mediocrity that are coming.

  8. I get the peripheral factors, but the gist of a GM wanting a valued player to make up his mind soon is code for “Please sign with us with what we’re offering before the fair market value offers come into play.”

  9. He only affects the playoffs.
    1. cards are relying on a beaten down 35 YO QB who was never very good
    2. St Louis has Fisher at the helm
    3. SF thinks going w/ a line coach is the way to go.

  10. Gotta wonder if his pre-SB act was a ploy to enhance his marketability outside of football. If so, he may be done. God knows reality TV is a safer way to make a living.

  11. $5M + $2M roster bonus… I don’t know how much more you can give an RB in today’s NFL. Peterson was going to make $12M last season but isn’t worth that. Maybe $9-10M max for Lynch.

  12. Let’s not get stupid, what are his options, a neurologist, a cardiologist? All he can do is run with a football and act stupid and when the game is through with him he’ll wind up being the stupid jackass he is………………

  13. Marshawn, I’m looking for you and giving you some sage advice: save your health young man and retire.

    Signed,

A Saints fan and the rest of the NFL.

  14. Running backs are among the cheapest and easiest players to replace in today’s nfl. If Lynch wants to turn his nose up at the huge stack of money he has coming this year then let the greedy idiot twist in the wind and enjoy watching the season from his couch.

  15. What’s to decide? He’s not yet 30 and is unlikely to make the kind of money he is now making in the future. He’s not exactly the type of guy likely to pursue a lucrative career in broadcasting.

  16. No doubt in my mind Marshawn will play. And for all of you bad-mouthing Wilson, rememeber, he’s probably better than your squad’s QB. And if he’s not, he’s got a LOT more years to play than yours. Keep spewing your weak hatred and jealously. Go HAWKS

  17. I don’t see what the rush is. Free agency is a month away, and the draft is almost three months away. They need to find his replacement through one of those platforms whether or not he comes back.

  18. Money Lynch is rollin in his gold plated Benz in Oaktown Schneider! Fly down and take a ride with him. You might learn a thing or two about being REAL.

  19. He has already made a decision, he is returning to the play for the team located in the city tattooed on his back, OAKLAND… Raider Nation bishes..

  20. Hard to imagine he wouldn’t continue to play at least another year given the money he could earn and the quality of the team he’s on.

  21. They need to go after DeMarco now. AP is staying with Vikings. Boys can’t afford both him and Dez. Even if Hawks get Murray, They can’t replace Beast Mode. After Murray, Noshon is available. Translation: Hawks on the downslope to a fringe playoff team but it was fun while it lasted, Sherm the Germ!

  22. You “rbs are a dime a dozen” posters are clueless. Do you think you sniff either of those two super bowls with Indy’s tandem of T-Rich and Booze Houser (whatever that flash in the pan’s name is?)

  23. He’s so important to the franchise that they didn’t give the ball on 2nd and goal at the 1 yard line to win the Super Bowl…..

  24. They want to know asap so that they can figure out how to pursue getting Suh on the team. The thought of Suh joining that defense terrifies the rest of the NFL.

  25. He’d be a damn fool to leave $7M on the table with an excellent chance to add another ring. His team is built to win now.

Problem is, he’s still under contract with Seattle, so the “fair market value offers” won’t be coming in until free agency, 2016.

He can choose to extend with Seattle, or play out the year and go into free agency with another year of wear-and-tear, and see who wants to make a big offer to a guy who will be 30 by the time the 2016 season kicks off.

  27. “Lynch may be more important to his team than any other running back in the league.”

Did you actually watch the last few seconds of the Superbowl?

  28. I wonder if he(and a good portion of the offense and defense) can continue to coexist with Bevell. Bevell highly likely has lost their trust and their will be some resentment and animosity given how he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and screwed the franchise out of not only their repeat, but a shot at threepeat.

What MDS watched, was the entire season. The reference is to the obvious fact that the Hawks would not have been in the Super Bowl without Lynch. Pass or run wouldn’t have been an option, cause we wouldn’t have been there. Hence the importance.

    Go Hawks.

  30. Just to be sure we’re all talking about the same Russell Wilson, are we talking about the young quarterback who has more clutch game-winning drives than any QB since he entered the league? The same kid who throws one of the most accurate deep balls in the NFL? The youngster who’s also one of the most intelligent QBs in the game? The first quarterback ever described by analysts as “the NFL’s version of a point guard”?

OK … just wanted to be sure.

  31. Hope he sticks around, the game is better with a pure football player like Marshawn Lynch. He’s only a season or two of elite production away from the Hall of Fame, especially when you factor in his ridiculous postseason numbers.

  32. People are funny. And by people I mean haters. No one saw seattle returning to the playoffs let alone the sb. But they did. No one saw Seattle dominating Denver like they did. No one saw Seattle doing anything after the kc game this year. But they made it back to the big game and almost won it. No one except true seahawks fans. Keep hating and we’re going to keep winning. Hate only makes this team stronger and work together. Oh and by the way we weren’t going to replace browner, but we did. We will sign Wagner to a deal and next man up when it comes to our corners. Best safety tandem in the league. Lob. Love our brothers.

  33. I am a niners fan and have no reason to cheer on the Seahawks, but you’re clueless if you think the Seahawks are going to be only mediocre. We can only hope that they are beatable. Their defense is intact and healing and RW is better than being given credit for. They might even be better off saving the $ on Marshawn, using Christine, and getting better receiving targets (yes I am disrespecting you Doug Baldwin!). Unless they have too many injuries, I fully expect them to be in the playoffs, seeding depending on what happens with the rest of NFC.

  34. The Seahawks are built on the run, and need to try very hard to re-sign him. They were by far #1 in the league in rushing yards, and #27 in passing yards, so they are not in a position to rely on the pass and expect to win a championship yet. If you think RBs are interchangeable, you haven’t seen Marshawn play – he is one of the few backs in the last decade who can make plays where plays do not exist, and when he is behind a good OL it puts a huge amount of pressure on a defense. You can’t just plug and play any RB into that system and expect similar results.

  35. “He’s so important to the franchise that they didn’t give the ball on 2nd and goal at the 1 yard line to win the Super Bowl…..”
    ——
Yes, that coaching failure likely cost their team a back to back Championship.

But a bad coaching move is no reflection on Lynch, who nearly scored on the play from just inside the 10.

The man has earned a huge contract, and virtually carried the offense since he arrived in Seattle..PAY the man!

Clueless posters who’ve not watched Lynch playing in Seattle have no idea why he’s such a big deal. He’s a baller…and you’re not. Live with it!

  36. “I wonder if he(and a good portion of the offense and defense) can continue to coexist with Bevell. Very well said, and reality. If I’m on that team I could not forgive the utter stupidity displayed by Bevell. I never cared for him anyway because he’s far too predictable always running on 1st and 2nd down….defenses know what’s coming…except in the SB! Aargh!!!

  37. There is a team in the NFL that consistently repeats as a strong contender each year because of the management of the GM and the coach. The compesition of the teams change every year and need new players from the draft, trades and Free Agency. Seattle has those same strenghts (GM & Coach and a non medeling ower) and will be competetive every year as a result. We will definately see more of the Seahawks and Patriots in the SB.

  38. The best thing that ever happened to the Seahawks was Buffalo running this guy out of town. He’s the single biggest reason for their recent success, and if/when his run there is over, you’re looking at a 7-9 team again.

  39. “What MDS watched, was the entire season. The reference is to the obvious fact that the Hawks would not have been in the Super Bowl without Lynch. Pass or run wouldn’t have been an option, cause we wouldn’t have been there. Hence the importance.”

Well genius, thanks for making my point. If Lynch is the guy that got you to the Superbowl then it’s even more idiotic not to call his number with the Superbowl on the line. So you can make the choice? Is Lynch the reason you got to the Superbowl, or did Pete Carroll make the worst play call in the history of the Superbowl?

  40. Not to pour salt into an open wound by I will….he has said he’d love to play for a legend……Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. True dat!

  41. I think its funny that Seahawks fans think it is a good idea to invest half the teams salary cap into the offensive side of the ball. Why do that when the defense is what got Seattle where they are today? 70% defense, 30% offense. That is how the success breaks down. If the pay isn’t in that area, the team is going to be average before long.

But, hey, keep pretending Wilson carried the team and deserves elite money. Then pay Lynch top dollar. Then lose a couple key players on defense. Then brag about how good the Seahawks are.

  42. We will definately see more of the Seahawks and Patriots in the SB.
    =====

    No time soon.

Pats will be nailed for cheating and Brady will soon retire.

The Pats fans are in their twilight.

The Hawks on the other hand have just begun.

    UMMMMM….THE ABOVE WAS A JOKE..CORRECT????

Why would the Patriots be nailed for cheating??? What have they done??? If you’re talking about the media crazed deflategate,,the team that will be nailed for cheating,,is the Colts.

Once the Seahawks sign RW,Wagner, and others…their ‘depth’ will be relegated to street free agents, just like ALL the other teams who give their franchise QB a new contract…So, welcome to the NFL..as Seattle has lived on their honeymoon now for a couple years…Will they be good, sure, but as you found out this year…not easy to get back there.

Brady plays 8 more years, at least.
