Chiefs, Houston to try again this week

In the past, the Chiefs and linebacker Justin Houston have tried, without success, to work out a new contract.  In the near future, they’ll try again.

Per a league source, the Chiefs and Houston’s agent, Joel Segal, will make another attempt early in the week at making progress on a long-term deal.  The Chiefs are expected to apply the franchise tag to Houston, who racked up 22 sacks in 2014, absent an agreement.

Houston had been expected to sign the franchise tender immediately.  It’s possible that a new strategy will emerge if the coming talks fail to result in Houston receiving the kind of contract he believes he deserves.

  1. The Chiefs and Houston will get this done. Both sides want it.
Get ready for the Kansas City Chiefs to take back the AFC West, and make their run at dynasty status.
Eric Fisher is getting bigger and stronger and will finally show dominance at the LT position.
Jamaal Charles is preparing for a monster year.
Derrick Johnson will be back to All-Pro form.
The team will seriously upgrade the WR position through FA and the draft.
John Dorsey and Andy Reid will OWN the upcoming draft and produce new starters and STARS.
The KC Chiefs will return to the playoffs this year, and will be a Super Bowl contender for at least 6-7 years.
    Top 10 defense next year.
    Top 10 offense next year.
    11-5 record.

Sad that this is the typical attitude in kansas city. Pretty sure I work with this dude.

  3. While I’m not so bullish on the chiefs as the previous poster I do believe they will be a very good team again next yr and probably should be the favorite to win the west. They will get this deal done with Houston history has shown that they will overpay guys (bowe, Smith, Charles, hali) to keep them in the fold. The question is, is one yr of great production and 3 yrs of average production equal jj watt money or less but it will get done.

  4. I have never worked at Taco Bell, and do not work there now.
So, you are wrong, you do not work with this “dude”

  5. My six years old Xmas wish list was more realistic than that. Since you live in fantasy land, please tell me where I can find a tri bright colored pony that smells like banana pudding. Thanks!

  6. LOCK J HOUSTON UP LONG TERM! I would think 5 years 80 mil, with 40 mil guaranteed would do it. He’s a Beast!

The Chiefs are poised for a good run the next few years. We will find 2 good wide receivers and some o lineman and will enjoy a sweet playoff run next year.

    Go Chiefs!

HAHA keep dreaming last draft was your chance at drafting a elite WR. Correct me if I’m wrong but the Chiefs regressed this season from last year they aren’t going anywhere. Oakland has a better future than you do and that says a lot. Alex Smith the STUD

Isn’t this normally the attitude of any football fan when they talk about their team in the off season? This is when every team is in 1st place and every team is superbowl bound. Most football fans live with their head in the clouds, everyone wants to think their team is going to be the top team next year. If you spend the off season talking about how crappy your team is and how they are never going anywhere well, maybe you need to re-evaluate the team you root for. Don’t shoot a guy down because he is optimistic about his team, I mean heck, you probably believe that the Broncos are going to be a top team next year, even if Brock Osweiler is under center.

Oakland won’t be a contender for a couple more years at least. San Diego is the same every year, always around 7-9 to 9-7, Denver is going down hard with old overpaid players and a QB that has proven he doesn’t have enough left in the tank to compete by years end. The Chiefs on the other hand have a lot of talent and are a young rising team. All they need to do is acquire some receiver help and a couple OL and they’ll be golden. Pro Bowl LB Derrick Johnson was hurt all of last year whom is the cornerstone of the defense. Also need to replace Pro Bowler Eric Berry at safety who is currently counting several million against the cap with lymphoma. Good luck to you Eric. Hope you can get well and come back.

Maybe you should do a little research before you post…

Oh yes, because last year was the ONLY year the Chiefs had to draft a receiver. They can’t draft one this year despite having a boatload of picks because… Well, according to you they just can’t. Oakland has a better future? Really? Yeah, Oakland is such a powerhouse and are so good (sarcasm)! Alex smith isn’t Tom Brady, but he is better then given credit for. He had little to throw the ball to last year and no protection. Jamaal Charles was hurt much of last year, Derrick Johnson was hurt all of last year (Pro Bowl MLB for those who don’t know), Pro Bowler Eric Berry was out all of last year with Lymphoma. The Chiefs had one of the top 5 toughest schedules last year and beat both teams that played in the Super Bowl. Despite all their woes, they nearly made the playoffs with a 9-7 record, so yeah, sorry if I remain optimistic the Chiefs will bounce back from a one year slight falloff.
There, I corrected you because you are wrong.

Pay the man. Besides jamaal he is all they got that is a top tier talent!! i would say Eric Berry but he won’t be the same player when he returns.

I don’t know about that. I’d like to have their center on the Raiders.

  12. Shorts passes to negate the pass rush.
    Tire out the pass rushers.
Add medium length routes when rushers are exhausted.
    Win the Super Bowl.
That is how a HOF coaches game plan great pass rushers.
That is why HOF coaches don’t tie up too much cap space on elite rushers.
Most high priced rush specialists never sniff the playoffs because their teams have no clue how to balance the payroll and build deep teams….like NE.
KC is just another desperate team about to make a desperate decision…..for their fans.

  14. I wouldn’t mind seeing them committing to Houston on a long-term giant contract. It won’t lead them to becoming an elite team (they haven’t been so far with Houston), but it will lead to a large amount of cap space being tied up which they could otherwise use to upgrade their roster.

No he won’t. He’s not even showing competence at this point.

You probably would. But that’s because you don’t know anything about football. Its pretty sad that people like you think you know more about football than the guys who have been doing it for a living most of their lives like Andy Reid. But hey, ignorance is bliss…

    1) San Fran Dynasty ( under the table extra salaries/ stickum)
    2) Pitt Dynasty (steroids)
    3) Denver back to backs (cap fraud)
