Broncos coach Gary Kubiak has said in the clearest terms yet that the team wants Peyton Manning to be its starting quarterback in 2015.
“I’m expecting him to come back,” Kubiak told the Denver Post. “We want to play with him. This organization has won a lot of games with him and we want to get back and do it again. Expecting him to come back.”
The Broncos have never said otherwise, but they also haven’t said that they definitely want Manning back at his $19 million salary for 2015, and there have been some indications that they might want him to take a pay cut. But Kubiak seems to think it’s a foregone conclusion that Manning will be his starter this year, and all that’s left is for Manning and John Elway to make it official.
“I don’t think there’s any hold up at all,” Kubiak said. “He and John are working through the process. That’s been the plan all along, the way I understand it.”
Manning hasn’t said that he’s definitely coming back, but expect Manning under center when the Broncos’ season starts.
