Report: NFL fired employee who sold Deflategate footballs

Getty Images

The NFL has reportedly fired an employee who sold footballs that were used in the AFC Championship Game — footballs that later became the source of the Deflategate controversy when the Patriots were accused of playing with under-inflated footballs on offense.

Adam Schefter reported on ESPN today that the footballs used in the game were supposed to be donated to charity, but that one employee took some footballs and sold them instead.

“There are a few different league officials, according to people I spoke with today, at the game, who handled the footballs,” Schefter said. “League employees: League Employee 1, League Employee 2 and League Employee 3, we’ll call them, for lack of a better phrase, whose jobs are to handle the balls on game day. And League Official 1, he’s also supposed to take the balls out of play and then send them off to a charitable endeavor to raise money for a charitable endeavor that the league is embarking upon. Only on this day, and since that day, the league has since fired that employee for allegedly selling off some of those footballs on the side. So that employee — League Official 1 — has been fired since the AFC Championship Game.”

If this is true, League Official 1 is lucky if all that happens is he gets fired. From Schefter’s description, it sounds like League Official 1 could also be facing criminal charges for stealing NFL property and selling it.

This is, of course, a totally separate matter from the question of whether the Patriots deflated footballs in violation of league rules. But it’s relevant to Deflategate in that it shows just how little oversight there is on the footballs that are used on the field. So little oversight that it would be easy for a team to tamper with footballs — and hard for the league to conduct an investigation after the fact.

  1. Can the NFL just end this farce once and for all and come down hard on the Colts and Ravens for framing the Patriots and then issue their apology to the Patriots?

  2. This keeps getting weirder by the day/minute. Who was the employee, people need to talk to him or we will think they are making this up.

  3. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

    #GOODNIGHTSTORY
    #BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
    #GETREADYTOAPOLOGIZEPUNKS

  4. Well, that’s one way to get rid of the evidence. My guess is the charity would have been New England based, run behind the scenes by Kraft.

  5. How hard is to prove if the Pats are guilty or not? It seems that the NFL is trying to cover everything up after Goodell was called out by Kraft

  6. There’s your scape goat NEVER to hear about the by GOD patsies & their deflate gate!!! Poor guy was just doing what he was told probably by the team!!! Not that it really mattered because Indy FORGOT to show up!!!

  7. Nfl is run by a bunch if monkeys.

Pats didnt do nada wrong, and now its blowing up in espn/nfls face because of an agenda against the pats.

Having an agenda can make smart people look dumb

  8. So much for a chain of custody that might support prosecution, assuming anything was done wrong at all, which is a stretch. The more this botched frame-up attempt unravels, the more humiliating it becomes for Goodell, who appears to have no control at all over his own HQ staff and their personal agendas.

  9. Perhaps moving forward, the NFL can ensure that the cheerleaders are “handling the balls on game day.” I have much more faith in them…..

  10. There HAS to be a bigger, unknown, monster of an issue that the NFL is worried about – and it’s using these ‘non-story’, (#Deflate, Browns Cell phones, etc..) to keep us looking elsewhere.

What it is, no clue – but come on reporters…dig it out!

  11. I hate the patsies too but one gate after another the patsies ALWAYS seem to stay out of trouble & it’s the Kraft & Goodell buddy buddy system keeping the by GOD patsies out of trouble!!! The NFL is becoming a joke just like Marc Cuban said!!!

  12. more is coming out….

the football that the Patriots guy (McNally) tried to give to the refs was one of two given to him by an NFL official, after he noted that two balls were missing.

  13. Why would you earmark the balls for charity if they were, you know, key evidence in an active investigation?

  14. I don’t care about the conspiracy. It didn’t help the Colts either. Then Brady was money in the fourth quarter against my hawks with properly inflated balls.
But the league is a joke with handling scandals

  15. So that’s what was happening with the ‘evidence’? An unbelievable amount of ineptitude from the NFL at every level.

  16. So the NFL VP of Game Operations personally measures the psi of the footballs at halftime and personally re-inflates the footballs and inserts them back into the game – all (for the best we know) for the first time in the history of the NFL. Then said VP of Game Operations does not ensure that the same footballs are secured after the game??? This whole thing is an embarrassment.

  17. This is getting to “Grassy Knoll” level stuff. Folks are CONVINCED that the Pats cheated. Why? Because it FEELS true to them (yes, Colbert fans, we’re in the “Truthiness Zone”)

Yesterday: “The Pats tried to sneak an unapproved ball into play” (Pats Haters: Ah-HA! We’ve found the smoking gun! Ban Belichick for life, Suspend Brady for 10 years!)

Today: “League official handed ball to Pats to be put into play, officials under investigation for selling balls on the side” (Pats Haters: Um… THEY STILL CHEATED, THEY JUST COVERING IT UP!)

  18. At least Goodell cant show them on a screen in a loop to humiliate the Pats as he did with the spygate tapes for all the reporters to ogle at his power.

  19. people getting burned alive around the world and people are acting like the pats commited some crime. ” persons of interest “..” investigations ” the nfl is a joke.

    #theyhateuscausetheyaintus

  20. When is there proof that the Patriots DO cheat? Remember, innuendo and leaks don’t count as evidence, except in the media.

  21. Spygate tapes burned.

Belicheat and Brady’s deflated balls sold off.

    Cover up complete

  22. A Federation of Dunces—–led by the king of dunces ex jet employee Goodell and vice king ex Jet employee Kensil

  23. I like in life it’s not what you know is who you know! Patriots get away with murder, Roger Goodell is a joke scared of Mr kraft

  24. Sold?
Sounds like another attempt by Goodell to destroy or otherwise get rid of evidence of the Patriots cheating.
    He’s done it before.

New England Patriots – forever tainted.
Take your seat next to the 1919 Black Sox.

  25. This story completely destroys the ESPN OTL “breaking news” of yesterday, and puts the lie to it.

It was just another smear attempt by Kensil (the former Jets president’s son and long time employee) to smear the Pats with these well timed and continual “leaks”.

Roger Goodelll has mishandled every disciplinary issue that has come his way during is 8 year reign of terror and mismanagement. I’d be surprised if he did the right thing here and fired Kensil for perpetrating his own personal agenda as it pertains to BB, punishes the Colts, Irsay and Grigson for their part as willing accessories to Kensil, and issues a heartfelt apology to Kraft, BB, and Brady for the way he allowed those in his own office to falsely attack the integrity of the Patriots.

….AND then I want him to fully explain his actions in “cameraplacementgate” and what the Pats were ACTUALLY punished for, and how they gained NO unfair advantage and the labeling of them as “cheaters” was erroneous in the first place.

…..AND then I’m going to hold my breath until all that happens. 😀

  26. Harbaugh is freaking out now that everyone knows he started this whole thing, worried what Bill will do.

Take the Ravens and Colts 1st rd picks, give them to the Patriots, NFL offers a public apology to Bill, Tom and Mr. Kraft and that may be enough for Pats fans to forgive this set up.

  27. This is probably why it’s taking so long, they haven’t even located all the supposedly underinflated balls that CORRUPT NFL EMPLOYEES sold off. Just to be clear, they sold evidence, and ripped off charities while doing it. These are the people you expect to sit in judgment of the Patriots?

We won’t get to the true bottom of this until NFL Commissioner Belichick hands his report to U.S. President Thomas Edward Patrick Brady.

  28. You really can’t make this stuff up for if you did no one would believe you.

What’s the topping point for the owners to look for professional management of a multi-billion dollar business?

  29. Sold?

  32. Just as an aside, I’m always stunned when haters assume Roger Goodell is “protecting” the Pats, when at the same time, EVERY Pats fans looks on Roger Goodell as the enemy and reason for every bad thing that has happened to the franchise since he came to power.

  34. Anyone on this news feed blaming the Patriots, you are ridiculous. The NFL obviously feels that they have no basis for the investigation at this point and has given up. My issue is if they do try to foolish how could you appeal since there is no way to review the evidence. The Patriots should take issue with this.

  35. The NFL is looking more and more incompetent the more that comes out about all of this. It’s actually sort of a miracle that this bunch can get through a whole 16-game season.

At this point, regardless of what the NFL may have on the Pats, it’s getting as hard to believe the NFL as it is to believe the Pats. The league has officially jumped the shark.

You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if this scandal went all the way to the White House.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if you watched faux news…..

So the guy would have got away with it if the Pats didn’t get caught cheating again…..the front office is a mess but the owners continue to stand behind Roger…..so strange, Goodell must know were the bodies are buried….

  38. MDS:

So little oversight that it would be easy for a team to tamper with footballs

That last line is a bit of a stretch: I doubt there were 10’s of 1000’s of fans and scores of television and personal cameras when the guy took the balls to sell. And which balls were they: the Colts or the Pats?

  39. P.S. I love the reaction that corrupt NFL employees stealing evidence and ripping off charities means the Patriots must have done something — according to those same corrupt sources. Remember, only you can prevent the spread of Patriots Derangement Syndrome. Symptoms include:

    — Obsessing about Patriots endlessly while never mentioning the other team you supposedly support

    — jealous muttering about Tom Brady’s “movie star” good looks and “piercing, dreamy” eyes

    — Crying endless bitter tears, all the time, forever and ever

  40. A lot of Patriots fans showing how stupid they are.

Please tell us all how the Ravens “framed” the Patriots?

LOL it is pretty clear now the Patriots fans are worse than Steelers fans

    Which is saying a lot

  41. Now you are combining on a lack of oversight on footballs that will never again be used in an NFL game? Really? The guy stole property and sold it. It is not indicative of a conspiracy to cheat in a game. Give it a rest.

  42. Kelly Naqi is the Geraldo Rivera of ESPN. She is a buffoon looking for attention (like most of ESPN). The NFL better present any REAL evidence they have or stop this madness. Goodell is the emperor with no clothes. Get out already.

  43. the only thing better than the NFL being exposed as total screwups and vindicating the Pats, is all these crybaby losers on here who root for loser teams, loser QBs, loser coaches and loser organizations….their only this is to cry like a little girl “they cheat, they cheat!!”

HaHa your crybaby tears are so sweet…Belichcik & Brady are going to make 2007 scorched earth season lok like charity….they are going to destroy teams next year

  44. All the NFL did with this mess is tarnish the good name of the New England Patriots. Apologize now Goodell!

  45. Lowly ballboy gets fired for selling a couple of footballs and players can throw them into the crowd and get fined only $5000. Guess it’s Goodell’s way of showing the world how tough he can be. What a joke !!!

  46. I also find it funny how Patriots fans say the Ravens are filled with idiots yet the Patriots have managed to lose in the playoffs at home 2 times to those idiots

  47. Did this nfl employee also work for the pats? What does this change? They were still underinflated by the pats and only their balls. It is not a court of law, just another pat caught cheating deal, let’s get rid of the evidence! Again

  48. So let me get this straight in a key “scandal” against a top team a shady employee of the NFL buys off the deflated footballs and rips off a charity and the Patriots are somehow to blame for this? This must be what it feels like when scientists are trying to reason with creationists.

  49. You Patriot haters are getting to be a pathetic bunch. The ESPN story turned out to be bogus yet you fools run with it. The NFL sells footballs on a regular basis to raise money for charity so it is not part of a coverup. The under inflated football story by Chris Mortenson was wrong and in your mind, you don’t care because you have to convince yourself they aren’t any good. You ignore all previous stories of cheating that had taken place long before spygate but you also choose to ignore those. Taping signals was wasn’t banned till 2007 and they were caught in the first quarter of the first game yet you think they need to cheat to win. Matt Walsh did not tape a walk through but you refuse to believe that. How much longer will you continue sounding like fools?
You hate us cause you ain’t us!

  50. Goodell: Wait! It’s now for sale on eBay!

Kensil: It sold! Who would buy it?

Grigson: I AM THE NEW BALL MASTER!

  52. Goodell to give the Pats back their 1st round draft pick and repay Coach Belichick his $500,000 for the force he called spygate and repay Kraft his cash and a god damn apology.

  53. I love all the Pats fans blaming the Colts and Ravens when YOUR TEAM CHEATED!! You all have nothing better to do than post comments on here since you’re snowed in and bored out of your minds. It’s pretty funny actually

At this point, the NFL needs to just end this nonsense. I really don’t even care if the balls were deflated or not, it didn’t affect the outcome of the games. So lets just move on people. But, Pats fans, please don’t blame other teams for this! Makes you look really dumb

  54. How can you investigate the Patriots for having underinflating footballs if some of the footballs were switched out by a League Official in the midst of the game to cover his tracks for stealing the real footballs?

Isn’t selling footballs on the side a drastically higher integrity issue than footballs being slightly low on PSI would be?

PV = nRT, all footballs fell 1.1 psi (or so) due to a 22 degree (or so) temperature drop.

  55. There are two people (if they are not the same person) that should get fired henceforth. The NFL employees that leaked to Chris Mortensen and Bob Kravitz. The rest of the circus does not change that fact. So why haven’t they been fired?

  56. Patriots fans are hypocrites

They talk about how the Patriots are so perfect yet they have managed to have their players arrested 15 times since 2000

They run their mouth accusing Ray Lewis of being a murderer

Yet they had Aaron Hernandez on their roster being an alleged murderer and somehow the Patriots knew nothing about it

The “genius” Bill Belichick knew nothing about Hernandez

If Hernandez played for the Cleveland Browns, Patriots fans would run their mouth about them being a joke.

But the Patriots drafted Hernandez despite his red flags

So, how do Patriots fans run their mouth about Ray Lewis when they had Aaron Hernandez on their roster?

The Patriots cut Hernandez until they had to. They didn’t have a choice in cutting him unless they wanted to deal with the backlash of keeping him on their roster.

Not to mention the Patriots cheated in spygate and quite possibly cheated again this year too

Funny how with all Baltimore’s 6 NFL championships (Colts and Ravens) They have never been caught cheating.

But somehow Boston fans think Baltimore fans are jealous of the Patriots 4 NFL championships while Baltimore has 6 LMAO.

NFL record books say Baltimore has 6. I only say that because Patriots fans think those Baltimore Colts championships don’t count

But they want to count the championships the Patriots won when they cheated in spygate LMAO too funny.

  57. You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if this scandal went all the way to the White House.
    —–
It probably does, as spygate too happened under Bush’s watch…is there anything he and tricky dick cheney didn’t do?

  58. The Lunatics really are running the asylum. Once again The NFL blurs that fine line between clever and stupid.

Really? Mike Kensil ‘personally inspected’ The Patriots Game Balls at Halftime… Then they mysteriously disappear.

So, what has the Wells Commission been investigating for the past four weeks?

Dumb. Just plain dumb. For these clowns… NFL needs to stand for Not (employed) For Long.

  60. Question for Pats fans: If it was absolutely proven that the Patriots cheated, would you still be a fan of the team? Thumbs up if the answer is yes, thumbs down if no.

  61. “football were sold …footballs that later became the source of the Deflategate controversy when the Patriots were accused of playing with under-inflated footballs on offense.”
    *************************
Well, looks like they found another way to get rid of evidence. Why does this seem NFL/Pats orchestrated? You can’t charge’em if the evidence is gone.

  62. On the plus-side – at least Tommy & Billy have a few more mementos on their mantles – for cheap!!!…

  63. So just to recap…nobody knows what the balls started at. They were inspected by a former Jets loser, who decided they were bad, so he pumped them up, and now nobody knows if the balls they have are even the game balls. There’s no film of anyone from the patriots doing anything wrong and there’s no evidence to suggest anything happened, whatsoever.

Sounds like an ironclad case. Mr. Kraft, there’s a Mr. Goodell on line 2 with an apology.

  64. The Patriots…will be watching all this crap carefully…and jumping on NFL if there is not action taken against others…who deserve so.

Kraft, is the past…has supported Godell. Well, now Kraft will lead the charge to remove him, and others will follow.

ALL…parties here, especially officials, and the Colts employees….really need to face suspensions, and losses of draft picks. If Irsay found to have a part, would be his 2nd offense, 1 year mandatory ban.

Do not know much, but Kensil an ex jet…so no doubt, the stench starts there.

  65. I’d be willing to bet that NFL official #17 bought the footballs and gave one to his nephew #2, who in turn traded it to his neighbor for Pokemon cards and a razr scooter.

    Jealousy will get you nowhere
    ========================================

What is jealous? The Ravens lost to a good team (even though they do cheat) but quite honestly, there is a legit case that the Ravens should be 4-0 against the Patriots in the playoffs.

But “should” doesn’t mean anything. The Patriots won.

The Ravens have achieved a lot of the past 15 seasons.

Since 2000, the Ravens have the second most playoff wins in the NFL with 15. Only to the cheating Patriots.

The Ravens have 2 SB wins in that time. Nothing wrong with that especially when you consider the only team that has more (Patriots) in that time had to cheat to get theirs.

  67. The XFL/WWE is back… and thriving… This has to all be scripted… The super bowl will be a Pay Per view event next season. All we need is to hand microphones to players before the games.

  71. To ravenssb52: worry about winning your division rather than coming in 3rd place before you start comparing the Ravens to the Patriots

Um…. that’s because they don’t. We’re talking Super Bowl championships. The Ravens have 2 of those. 2 is less than 4 silly.

I’m sure Bills fans are pounding their chests about their 2 AFL championships. LMAO.

And you do know that the Ravens have no connection whatsoever to the Baltimore Colts right? Those Colts are in Indianapolis. I suspect you are not old enough to know that. Your ignorance is therefore understandable.

  74. You left a huge part of the story out!!!

    From Schefter:

Employee 2 noticed that one of the balls — it gets very confusing and technical Bob — but noticed that one of the balls was missing. League Official 1 during the game went to get a different one. So when League Official 2 came in, he tried to replace that football. League Official 1 noticed that the ball was missing, noticed that people knew, he brought the ball back into the game, so then there were two different league officials handing footballs to Jim McNally for use in the game.

And so it sounds like a very unique, murky, cloudy situation. All of this information by the way is captured on video tape, has been turned over to the NFL and will be documented in the Wells report according to people I’ve spoken with. That essentially Jim McNally was given these footballs by the league officials assigned to work the game that particular day.”

Actually the Patriots were once the Redskins so the count is 7 to 6 in favor of Boston. Also, you’re calling the Patriots fans hypocrites really? You are the ones talking the loudest about morality yet you have no problem worshipping a murderer who got away with it and without him the Ravens would have been irrelevant, also Goodell helped cover up the Ray Rice tape and for some reason your fans cheered him during Preseason, you have Suggs who beat his girlfriend and poured bleach on her, you have a dog fighter who isn’t getting half the attention of Michael Vick, and you have PED users on your team. What’s funny is Ravens fans crying about morality and saying how great they are while condemning the Pats for their actions yet the Ravens have 22 arrests since 2000 which is more than the Pats or most teams for that matter. Glass houses sir glass houses.

As a great teacher once said, “Don’t worry, after time even monkeys can learn.”

    Now go shovel some snow.

  83. So, turns out the Indy framing conspiracy theorists have been proven WRONG!

Its been reported Jim McNally, a decade old employee of the Patriots organization attempted to introduce an unmarked, read unauthorized ball, to a game referee in the Indy-Pats playoff game. That’s what triggered the Pat’s ball investigation, as this same McNally, an officials locker room attendant was on the field with balls, which attendants for the officials locker room are NEVER on the actual field, the report further states.

It’s not been confirmed if this McNally is the same person seen going into the bathroom with balls for some 90 seconds.

At any rate…what say all those demanding apologies now?

Crickets…figures…the smoke is getting real thick with the revelation of a decade old Pat’s employee on the field attempting to introduce unauthorized balls into the game via an official. No wonder the officials inspected the Pat’s balls at half time…they just had a Pat’s employee trying to introduce unauthorized balls into the game. I knew there was something to this story…McNally of course won’t talk to the press….yet.

Also the Patriots cut hernandez, rather than suporting him through the trial and building a statue is him. Not comparable to ray Lewis.
    ===========================================

LOL they cut him because they had to. They only did it under public pressure.

  85. @skhaw read all the facts instead of the ones you want to read. The ball he gave to the official was given to him first by another official because the officials misplaced 2 balls.

  86. Goodell called the kid up and screamed what part of ‘destroy these’ did you not understand.

  87. O really? You know that for a fact? Did bb or kraft tell you that? Not sure why the ravens didn’t do the same with ray then. Keep trolling ….

  88. Interesting that PFT has not not reported on the shady NE ball guy who tried to give the ref an unapproved kicking ball during the AFC championship game. Shows the character and intent of NE right there. The report also asks if this is the same moron who took the game balls into the rest room. Now we are getting somewhere! Hopefully, they broke that a-hole down and he came clean withe the entire game ball cheating program in NE. This could be really good!!

  89. ‘This is, of course, a totally separate matter from the question of whether the Patriots deflated footballs in violation of league rules.’
Or an even more separate matter from the Colts GM doctoring the football before turning it over to the Ex president of the NY Jets on his way to phone his flunky at the newspaper. It’s almost like this story ceased to exist for PFT once the Colts seemed to be the likeliest culprits in this story. No more twice hourly updates, no more chemical engineering professors giving slideshow presentations. No more climate change honchos discussing deflation in winter. No more has been players or coaches with a chip on their shoulder offering their biased opinions……..it’s like it ended when the guilt was questioned.

  90. The Patriots didn’t cut Hernandez because they had to. The second they knew of the seriousness of the allegations, they voluntarily did, then bought back all of his merchandise from the fans.

The Ravens on the other hand would be commissioning a sculptor right now to bronze up his likeness and put it in the center of Baltimore.

  91. Let me get this straight, the NFL’s investigation has found that their own guy changed out the so called K-ball and tried to deflect blame on the Ball Attendant to cover up his original theft of said game ball for perrsonal monetary gain! Gee, I wonder how long this has been going on, most likely been playing with changed out balls for sometime? It’s a good thing this latest twist didn’t get 24 hours of cyberspace time, the good Lord only knows what ESPN, NY Post, Rice, Colts local sports columnist, Mortenson and the 100 other blowhards with personal agendas and records that are already broken or soon to be broke by the Pats, would have said and done to keep this S-Show going!!!! I’m sure it won’t stop the hatr’s who’s team have been beaten soundly for over a decade though, the hell with facts….”my butthurts it must be BB, Brady & Kraft.” REALITY – more like Bruskie, McGinnis, Vrable, Law, Wilfork, Faulk, Dillion, Vineteri, Moss, Branch, Welker,Gronk, BB, TB and slew others and great assistant coaches that continue to do their jobs and just keep winning – deal with it hatr’s !!!!

To ravenssb52: New England 35 vs Baltimore 31
    Jealousy will get you nowhere
    ========================================

So the ravens players having positive ped test isn’t consider cheating

  94. Why do the Patriots fumble significantly less than every team (including dome and warm weather teams) since the rules changed for providing game balls in 2006?

Look up the fumbling stats. ONE team suddenly learned how to stop fumbling. The other 31 maintained fumbled the same as they previously did.

  95. Typo:

Look up the fumbling stats. ONE team suddenly learned how to stop fumbling. The other 31 teams fumbled the same as they previously did.

  96. None of this makes sense. Someone other than a Pat’s fan or a troll please help me out here. I thought the NFL seized all of the Patriot’s footballs after the first half and replaced them with properly inflated balls.

So why would these balls be auctioned for charity in the first place which lead this guy to sell them personally? This is all a big joke, and to all these Patriot fans thinking the mishandling by the NFL makes them innocent are fools. You may beat the charges but that doesn’t mean you did nothing wrong.

  97. I’ll wait for the Wells report, which I’m confident will completely exonerate the Patriots in this farce/witch hunt. Meanwhile, anyone else notice the common denominator in the hater posts on this thread? Ravens fans(lost 35-31), Colts fans(lost by a million), Seahawks fans(lost the SBowl 28-24). See a pattern? Boo-freakin-hoo losers. Accept it and get on with your lives.

  98. LOL, so we are supposed to believe the Pats cheated when the people working for the NFL were busy selling footballs, handing them illegal footballs and having a former Jet employee testing PSI at halftime???????????? Ya, okay. The Pats got hosed on this whole thing BIG TIME and only haters are going to disagree.

  99. Belicheck was a failure in Cleveland and NY he knew he needed to be a first class jerk and cheater to start winning in the NFL.

corruption runs deep in boston and the pats are no different.

    Black and Purple!

  100. I think it’s important to note that the other piece of what Schefter said is that the Pats ball boy who supposedly gave the refs an unapproved ball was being given the balls by two different league officials. If he had an unapproved ball, it’s because the league gave it to him to give to the refs….oh, and that’s all on camera.

  101. It’s a coverup by Goodell!!!! He’s destroying evidence again!!! He’s an evil genius in bed with Kraft!!!

Listen, I realize this board isn’t overflowing with MIT physicists, but….do you morons understand the timeline here, at all? At. All?

If you’re going to troll, at least put some effort into it. That’s already been debunked. That analysis looked only at fumbles lost, not all fumbles. So they’re more heads up about jumping on loose balls. Neat. They aren’t the team fumbling the least, they just get them back more often.

  105. The report I read TODAY was Pat’s employee, a decades old employee, named Jim McNally was on the field where he was not assigned too. Both can’t be true. McNally isn’t talking to the press…and he’s no “boy.” He’s a senior looking man who looks to be about 60 at least. He’s from New Hampshire and has bunkered down against the press…if you’ve got nothing to hide why is McNally bunkered down in NH…duhhhh.

    ============================

I wonder if the Pats use Deer Antler Sp (RAY) to win their Super Bowls

  107. Kraft will get his apology regardless of the findings. Goodell will recite it word for word the way Kraft writes it up.

  108. McNally is 48, he LIVES in New Hampshire, and was given the unmarked football by an NFL official to replace one that the NFL official had stolen after it had been checked.

  109. Too bad he isn’t union. If there were no documented warnings against him stealing balls, he could file a grievance.

    What a stupid word.

  110. You Pats haters are really hilarious! A league official, who was working the AFC title game, gets fired for stealing game balls and you people think the Pats are directly involved.
All of you saying the Pats cheat never admit to other teams cheating, I wonder why that is?
The Jerry Rice stickum cheating scandal is much more egregious than spygate ever was. More importantly spygate happened in 2007, before that season it was legal to tape signals, which translates to not impacting the 3 titles in 01, 03 and 04. Meanwhile Jerry Rice cheated his entire career!

  111. Just as I thought!!! Pats did nothing wrong!!! And goodell was preaching integrity during his presser at the SB!!! Haha how sweet it is!! Watch out Rodger… Mr Kraft is coming for you!

  112. Pat will beat the Ravens again tonight. 8 pm. NFL network. Have tissues ready for the Harbaugh parts.

  113. The guy sold the game balls after the game. The Pats employee handed the unapproved football to the ref in the 1st quarter. The Pats are still guilty.

  114. I’m waiting for the “NFL employee who sold balls, receives lifetime supply of Mac N Cheese”

Umm, guess you don’t realize that Robert Kraft doesn’t own or have anything to do with Kraft Foods.

Pats haters usually don’t let actual facts get in the way of their emotional pain and hatred so why should you be any different.

  115. Adam Schefter now reporting that a league official was stealing the footballs during the game, which essentially resulted in a 3-card-monty of rotating footballs into and out of play, as he tried to avoid being caught.

    HAHAHA

As I said from the beginning — the collateral damage from this ridiculous scandal will ultimately become the main event.

I notice that Jerry Rice has been awfully quiet lately.

Any bets on Mike Kensil’s future?

  116. I can’t wait to hear Marc Brunel Jerry Rice Ray Lewis Troy Aikman and a few others to join in with the apologies once Goodell is don.

  117. NO, it is NOT a “totally separate matter.” The two are completely intertwined, because there’s no way to demonstrate the provenance of the balls during the game. Which is a shame, because we’ll likely never know for sure when the Colts to the air out of the one significantly under inflated ball and who on the Colts staff did it.

How many players have they had suspended for PEDS?
    .
    .
    .
Actually Seattle doesn’t even lead the league in PED suspensions in the last 5 years you scrub flash. To top it off several of the people who were punished for PEDs in that time had just been traded to the Hawks.

  122. Still amazing that people can read the NY Times articles about how ball deflation was completely consistent with the atmospheric conditions, how there is zero evidence of anyone tampering with the balls, total denial of anything by the Patriots organization, and now evidence of corruption in the NFL organization — and think it’s all a coverup of Patriots wrongdoing.

Please stay in your basement where your delusion hurts no one, and stay off of juries and out of the judicial system.

  123. It seems our friends from NE are a bit slow so allow me to explain. The balls that were in question of being deflated were taken by the NFL and checked at halftime, the unapproved ball was handed to the ref in the 1st quarter. So, regardless of whether or not the balls were stolen and sold later is irrelevant and doesn’t mean the Pats are innocent or guilty because we already know the deflated balls were only used in the first half. Unless I’m missing some details or am not understanding the concept of time, how does this article prove anything either way?

  124. PATRIOTS should be awarded the JETS First Round Pick since this is directly linked to Kinsel.

  126. “The guy sold the game balls after the game. The Pats employee handed the unapproved football to the ref in the 1st quarter. The Pats are still guilty.”

Nope. What had now come out is the official who stole the ball did so during the game. Another official noticed they were short a ball and gave the Pats ball boy who was also serving as the official’s locker room attendant a replacement ball to take out to the officials on the field.

Official 3 who was handed the ball on the field that official 2 gave to the ball boy to bring out is the guy who claimed the Pats were trying to sneak a non-kicking ball into the game. The same ball that official 2 had just sent out.

This is per Tom Curran of CSNNE.

Game, set, match. The league is in serious trouble. This should now be called Framegate.

  127. Tom Brady’s sister was crying after the Super Bowl because she was still hurting from what the league and the media did to her brother.

Under the weight of all that pressure, Brady orchestrated the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history against what many said was the greatest defense in NFL history.

Any human being with a heart or a brain would admire such an accomplishment. I guess not everyone has one.

Your problem is that you’re only using this article as the basis of your information, rather than actually what was said. The report was that the league official handed McNally the ball, which he then turned around and gave to the refs. It’s on camera. The league has the footage. The only reason a non-regulation ball was given to a ref is because a league official provided it. The reason he provided it was because he was stealing balls to sell on the side.

  129. weepingjebus says: This is probably why it’s taking so long, they haven’t even located all the supposedly underinflated balls that CORRUPT NFL EMPLOYEES sold off. Just to be clear, they sold evidence,
    ————————————-
Are haters really this ignorant? No balls from the AFCCG were sold to a charity. They have them all, including the eleven slightly under balls and the 2 pound under one that the Colts gave to the league.

Read the article. League employees have been doing this for years. They were caught on tape giving a Pats employee a ball to put into the game, which he did. Why wouldn’t he? A league official gave him a ball and said to give it to the ref.

Hate if you want, but don’t be THAT ignorant.

  130. This is going to lead right back to whom it started with…none other than that lying pos Harbaugh, right to his flunky, Pig-ano.

I hope that Kraft forgets the high road for once, gets the owners behind him, and fires Goodell.

Big, fat apologies coming to the NE Patriots and their entire organization.

  131. The latest Schefter report says they have video NFL employees handing footballs McNally and the Pats equip manager to get them into play.

This whole issue may be due to a couple of league officials trying to make some extra cash off of selling ACFCG footballs. This would also explain why the NFL went to an outside investigator instead of using NFL Security to investigate.

Also, if they had this on video it would explain why Wells and company had not spoken to Brady or Belichick about this before the Super Bowl.

Of course the other thing here is you have to wonder what info was leaked and why?

Now lastly, once again the Schefter story is from yet another “source”. We’ve heard so many different things from so many different sources and so much of it conflicts that we can’t determine what is a valid source and what isn’t.

Hopefully the Wells Report is finalized and released soon.

  132. Schefter explained the footballs used in the game were supposed to be donated to charity, but that one NFL employee took some footballs and sold them instead.

Schefter suggested the fired official took out the real ball for a fake one, which was handed to an unsuspecting McNally.

Moreover, Ted Wells, who is the lead investigator in the case, supposedly has all of this on film.

  133. Roger Goodell is having a bad day and a bad year

At this point we still don’t know to what level the balls were underinflated by, or even if they were the balls that were checked pregame as it appears a league official was funneling the actual game balls out of play to sell.

This issue would also explain why Wells has yet to interview Brady or Belichick. It’s not a problem within the Pats, but the league office, which would also be why you bring in an outside investigator and not use NFL Security for this.

  138. So as Pats fans we are to trust a league who has corrupt people working for them to investigate things on the level. Not to mention the guy who is driving this is the ex-president of the J E T S JETS JETS JETS and was there when Bill B declined to become HC of the NYJ’s and was there through the years the Pats won their first 3 superbowls. Can the NFL just end this farce once and for all and come down hard on the Colts and Ravens for framing the Patriots and then issue their apology to the Patriots?
    __________________________________
If Schefter’s source is right this would also likely show that the Raven’s and Colt’s had nothing to do with deflating footballs.

Now as far as the leaks go, well there may be some folks in the Colts organization with some explaining to do, but it doesn’t sound like they were framing the Pats.

  140. Why don’t the NFL just put a huge ol’ asterik by the New England Patriots name with a footnote to see “Crime and Punishment” and then delete everything from this organization in the last dozen or so years.

  141. Patriots are admitted and confirmed cheaters and goodell destroyed the evidence against them before. That is fact.
Goodell ruled on spygate after 4 days of investigation and did not even look at the tapes before the tapes were destroyed.
Now it takes a month or more to see if some footballs were deflated? This is a stalling tactic to cover for the patriots and we know that goodell and kraft are friend with kraft helping goodell get a huge 10 million raise. If you think that doesn’t influence goodell you are crazy. Kraft also supported goodell in the ray rice debacle.
The fact is the patriots dynasty is tainted and anyone not a die hard pats fan knows this.
    Sad day for football fans

  142. The Witch Hunt lives.

I just searched a number of sites that still have the story wrong. They are piling on the Patriots because a “reporter”from ESPN only published part of the story and the rest of the media took it as gospel.

People believe virtual anything any idiot says about the Patriots. It is like there is an alternative universe where the logic that they win because they work harder and play better is not even in the realm of the possible.

Deflategate is a joke but the cultural phenomena should be studied for years to come. Truly pathetic.

  143. The more Harbaugh has press conferences to tell the world he had nothing to do with all this, the more guilty he looks, jaysmook.

Remember to come back for your medicine when he gets outted for his part in this foolishness.

  144. Waiting too see how long IT takes this site to report the latest news that the ball which McNally tries to swap into the game was given to him by the official selling balls.

Proof there was tampering and it was by the nfl! Looking forward to all the cheating comments still directed at the pats

tell me again how the unrecorded psi stats are legit from refs who were swapping out balls

  145. And next, the person who bought the ball from the fired nfl employee is suing because he just realized that the ball doesn’t have the official NFL’s official’s stamp.

  146. Somewhere out there in Gillette, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are having a good laugh over this bogus nonsense while admiring their four Lombardi trophies.

  148. I would like to thank Roger Goodell for not only ruining the sport through rule changes, but for making the NFL unappealing and seemingly unethical for fans. Its a shame, I used to love the NFL…

  149. What are employee 1 2 and 3’s names. Wouldnt surprise me with how inept and corrupt the NFL is that they just made up Employee 1, 2 & 3. How bout releasing names clowns.

I mean wheres the transparency you promised Goodell?

  150. Actually, what it seems like is some doooosh bag in the league office (Kensil) is leaking half-truths to the media to smear the Pats, then somebody else leaks the truth to set the story straight. You saw it over and over again the past 5 weeks

    * 11 of 12 balls were 2psi under
    – No, only 1 ball was 2psi under rest were a few ticks
    * D’Quell Jackson noticed the ball was deflated
    – D’Q knew nothing of the sort
    * John Harbaugh ratted out the Pats
    – John Harbaugh denies talking to the league about deflated balls
    * Balls couldn’t have been effected by the weather
    – NYT reports that Wells contacts Columbia Phyics department to investigate weather’s effects on balls.
    * Pats employee took balls from refs into a room before the game
    – Pats employee took balls to a bathroom on the way to the field, for 90 seconds
    * It was a ball boy
    – It was an elderly man

Just seems more and more like somebody is smearing the Pats and somebody else is trying to clean up the smears.

  151. Take two:

*Every NFL team that is not the New England Patriots

    * Represents Inferior NFL teams

Long story short, if you don’t root for the Patriots I am sorry because your team is awful.

  152. Can someone explain to me how Mark Brunell made over 75 million dollars playing in the NFL, and is now over 7 million dollars in debt?

Brunell crying over the fact that he thinks Brady’s lying!

I’d be crying over the fact that I blew through 75 mil!!!

  153. Sell NFL balls that should have gone to charity because you have no money because you are a ball boy…..fired

cheat the nfl rules and win a couple super bowls because you are a millionaire…no problem,, coverup

This all couldn’t happen anywhere else except New England

  154. Brady had nothing to do with this. He is an NFL QB that has thrown millions of footballs, but he is just a victim of circumstances. He just deals with the footballs that are given to him…Oh sure…that is believable.

As it was said..there is one person that ordered those balls deflated, and knew they were deflated…that is Tom Brady. The rest of this is a smokescreen.

  155. Everyone assumes a bunch of slightly deflated balls would benefit Brady and the Patriots. However, when the refs switched out the deflated balls, Brady wiped out and demolished the Colts defense.

With properly inflated balls, Brady generally had his way with Seattle’s defense

Brady demonstrated that he plaus very well with properly inflated balls so consider an alternative motive. Deflated balls were introduced into gamrs by unhappy Pat employees hoping to adversely affect Brady and hurt the Psts, help the other team, and influence the game’s outcome for betting interests.

This makes more sense since Brady plays much better with properly inflated balls.

  156. firing a guy over this? Pathetic. No reason to fire officials over bad calls…but lets end a guys life/career cause he made a few bucks a rawhide football.

  157. It’s really quite comical to hear Ravens fans talking about “the most playoff wins.”

Allow me to clarify this shady math – when you continually play on WILDCARD weekend, and the team you are comparing yourself with has EARNED a bye, then of course you play more games, congratulations on underachieving.

  158. I think it’s funny that Pat’s fans actually consider this a good thing for them. All of these guys involved work for the Pat’s,including McNally. The Pat’s are guilty,no doubt whatsoever !! If you paid any attention to Goodell,he stated that if anything ruined the integrity of the game.Plus the burden of proof, according to NFL rules only needs to be at 40%.They are toast,of course Goodell and Kraft are joined at the hip so who knows.

  159. Why is an NFL official testing the balls….former Jets operative….would he be willing to take a lie detector test? I heard Brady and Bill have agreed. Why not all involved?

  160. So we get to see just how seriously the NFL is taking this – which means they have nothing on the Patriots.

I mean, after the air pressure was measured (and those measurements not recorded) and the game was done, the footballs themselves have no use as “evidence”, but clearly they are symbolic, and at the very least should have been kept until the report was released.

If the NFL had any evidence they would’ve released the report by now. But darnit, all of these pesky leaks keep happening from the NFL office!

  161. Haters beware. Your not going to like Belichick when he’s angry. Patriots and scorched earth coming next season. Betters take the Patriots and the over.

  162. In this TURN OVER EVERY STONE to make money engendered in this Goodell Era, sometimes you turn over a snake den.

Yesterday I was a charity luncheon and the silent auction had a licensed Antonio Brown photo of him kicking the Cleveland punter in the head when he tried to hurtle him. He was rightly penalized.

Why would the NFL license a photo of a penalized play? GREED!

  163. New England Patriots now have a player sitting in jail for a double homicide, a star qb that can only win the big game by cheating, a head coach with a proven history of cheating and fans that blame everyone other than their own team.

  164. Oh the highs and lows of the Patriot haters. The walkthrough tape rumor outed as a lie. The end of the Super Bowl. Deflategate exposed as the nothing it always was. And then the same with this story.

The emotional roller coaster must be taking its toll by now.

    🙂

  165. Once the balls were reinflated, they lost any evidentiary value, so it doesn’t matter what was done with them. The evidence had already been tampered with.

And by a senior league official, too.

An official who had no business under the rules even touching a football during a game. When does he get fired?

  166. An official who had no business under the rules even touching a football during a game.

Yep. Of all people a senior league official should know better.

  167. Ya know… If the NFL were running a sting operation or a planned campaign to catch the Patriots doing something (anything), it would almost be better than finding out the league is just a bunch of incompetents bumbling around.

A conspiracy requires different people to execute an operation with some degree of intelligence, skill and cunning. That’s way, way beyond what Goodell and his minions are capable of.

  168. In next year’s Pats-Colts game, when the Pats are up by 6 TD’s with less than a minute to go, and they have the ball on the Colt’s 5 yard line, you can bet Brady is going to be passing the ball into the end zone for one more score.

Now, THAT will be sweet. Hahahaha

  169. THE HORROR… THE HORROR!

The Patriots make the Lance Armstrong’s honor roll by deceitfully creating mountains of brazen distraction. Now it is this NFL employee as THE guilty party and before that they went around and around saying that everyone cheats, this guy cheats, that guy cheated therefore it must be OK for the Deflate Gate and the Spygate and the Receiver Ineligible Gate, this last one even is worse than all of the rest by introducing distractions and confusions so that the referees cannot police players coming into and out of the game in the legal time with the numbers as it is customary.

I think they are actually better than Lance Armstrong at the lying and cheating… and the fact is that they have been using under inflated and out of regulation balls since after the Chiefs destroyed them they made a decision they were going to do whatever it took and Brady at 37 likes an out of spec ball and his receivers and ball carriers catch better and fumble less. And the NFL has not even interviewed the top Patriots giving them months to prepare to declare themselves innocent, say, another MIT physics snow blizzard by Godfather Lance Belichick.

What goes on between Goodell and Bob Kraft is without precedent; the favoritism and aiding and abetting is criminal particularly when Goodell destroyed the Saints franchise and suspended players and coaches and Sean Payton for a whole year. Several of the Saints had nothing to do with the BountyGate a state of mind that exists in football even to this day… watch the Patriots get away with this because Goodell destroyed evidence for them before (inexplicably and incredibly) so that the other business partners could not fully see how badly the rogue New England business partner cheats the rest of the teams that are supposed to be on a level playing field.

As Marlon Brando said in Apocalypse Now… “THE HORROR… THE HORROR.!”

  170. The Chiefs didn’t even make the playoffs, and you’re peering out of your window like the Rob Lowe character in the commercial who thinks “everyone is in on the conspiracy.”

You nut jobs will look at anything other than the Patriots talent to sooth yourselves, and you may never awaken from delusion.

All I can say to the above manifesto is: Yikes.

  171. On the contrary, what it shows is that there IS oversight over the footballs – and that not only was there no tampering by the Patriots, it further indicated the entire controversy was a fabrication by Colts officials who leaked to the media, the media ran with it, and Goodell panicked.
