Kevin White opens eyes with a 4.35 40-yard dash time

It might not break a record, but Kevin White did plenty to vault himself up some draft boards Saturday.

The West Virginia wide receiver ran his first 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds, which is fast for any player.

But for a guy who measured in at 6-foot-21/2 and 215 pounds, that kind of speed is going to make teams at the top of the draft take another look at their tape.

White might have been one of the first two receivers drafted anyway, after an outstanding final season for the Mountaineers, with 109 catches for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns.

But putting down a blazing 40 time might nudge him ahead of Amari Cooper in the minds of some, and get him in the mix to be in the top five players chosen.

  1. Jets please dont screw this up. Been saying this guy should be the first receiver off the board. Hoping and praying the Raiders take Amari Cooper.

  2. I can see why a team would draft him. Just in case he gets the ball and all his pads and helmet fall off we know he’ll be fast.

  3. I hope Bowles and Maccagnan are taking a good look at this guy and DeVante Parker.

We are fortunate to have two good wide receiver classes in a row and since Idzik botched it last year (excluding Pryor and Amaro) we can’t afford to wait until the 4th round and take another Shaq Evans.

Yes, I added Pryor to the list with Amaro due to the fact that we had two strong safeties with Landry and Pryor. Pryor played FS which isn’t his strong suit and excelled when playing at SS.

  4. I’ve liked White since watching him a few times this past year. His 40 is going to propel him way up the draft list which is not good for my favorite team who could desperately use him. I just think Cooper is going to be another Tavon Austin of Rams and would rather take a chance on Beckham than Cooper.

  5. Come on cooper had 3 great Season white comes out of no where has ONE great season and runs a great 40 and now he’s ahead of cooper? The combine is so overrated it’s not even funny

  6. What ever happened to that West Virginia quarterback who was taken with the 39th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft?!?

  7. You can have the guy who runs .08 seconds faster then Cooper, let him slide to the Giants at 9 and see what a receiver crew of Beckham/Cooper/Cruz will do.

  8. Makes the top-5 super interesting. The only question about White coming in was his top-end speed. Now that he’s answered it, it makes me wonder if the Raiders will stay at 4 and take him or use White as trade bait and hope they can get Parker or Beckham a little later. As a Raider and WVU fan, Williams is still #1 on my wish list but with Mariotta confirming he lacks and elite NFL arm I don’t think he’ll be there at 4. Raiders shouldn’t over-think this and just take White.

  9. He’s a better player than Cooper. And it will be proven in the NFL when the talent around each is similar, as opposed to their college days.

  10. Welcome to Oakland, kid! Now pack your bags for Carson…or, wait…nope…staying in Oakland. Umm, hold on…

  11. Cooper, White and Parker are all good receivers who have a good chance of being impact players in the NFL. Saying White may go higher than Cooper doesn’t mean Cooper sucks, it’s up to each football club to determine who they think has a higher ceiling and which player might fit their system better.
The teams will also have a wealth of knowledge about each player’s physical ailments and outlook that as fans we are not privy to. Maybe “_____” hasn’t been out with injury much but MRI shows most of his knee cartilage is shot? It’s up to the teams to do thorough research, so just hope your team is competent in that department 🙂

Welcome to the Raiders….Speed is all they care about.

Welcome to 2015. Invest in a calendar.

White looked good in the drills today. Great speed, and looks like a natural receiver. He pops on film as well. Runs angry after the catch. If Oakland can improve the D-line in free agency, I wouldn’t be pissed about either Cooper or White at #4. As long as Williams is off the board….

  13. @txraiderfan….faster, taller, better hands, better timing, more pro style of play. This is a Raider Fan talking. White is the better prospect. Was going in…undisputed-ly is coming out of today…Scouts always say they want to see a guy who can do things well but has one or two elite traits. Cooper has very good traits…White has elite traits. Only SEC watchers bias on Cooper. White was always better and he proved it today.

  14. Watch the tape…Cooper hands down…you people watch too much NFL network and believe everything you hear…Not saying White won’t be good, but Amari has been the man for years…history of WV wide receivers vs Alabama in the NFL…and I hate Alabama and think the SEC is overrated Phyllis…Cooper no contest…
