Vikings sign CFL linebacker Brian Peters

The Vikings have added a defender with safety and linebacker experience to their 90-player roster.

Minnesota has signed Brian Peters, who spent the last two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.

The 27-year-old Peters played linebacker for Saskatchewan last season, recording 78 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions. However, Peters (6-3, 218) was a safety at Northwestern from 2007-2011, recording 11 interceptions.

Before spending two seasons in Saskatchewan (2013-2014), Peters played one season with the Arena Football League’s Iowa Barnstormers (2012).

  1. Maybe the Vikings are downsizing the team based on little Teddy Bridgewater’s dimensions. That way he’ll look normal sized on TV.

  2. I don’t understand how calling “Teddy” undersized is even a diss?

He already showed he can be one of the top QB’s in the NFL.

This would be a good joke before the Season…

Now it’s just a lazy one.

  3. Well, at least he wasn’t recently released by the Packers. Other than the prolonged grief the purple faithful would receive by signing another cast-off, there’s the fact that scouts time Packer’s LBs with a sundial.

  4. Maybe the Vikings are downsizing the team based on little Teddy Bridgewater’s dimensions. That way he’ll look normal sized on TV……………………….

It seems the Packers are downsizing, removing the scapegoats from the NFCC, and putting more coaches between Muffin and the unemployment line..

  5. I see the Vikings have also signed Packer castoff TE Brian Bostick, too!

It figures. The Vikings always look to sign Packer castoffs!!!

  6. You have to love how Spieladope builds a team with various busts, low character (most arrests in the past 5 years), CFL, and Packer castoffs its no wonder they haven’t been above .500 in years meanwhile fighting Cleveland for the title of “Joke” of the NFL.

  7. Roman Reigns is a former viking? Didn’t know that. They’re a couple of beasts! That shows just how tough the NFL really is.

  8. My goodness the Vikes signed him to the 90 man roster. These moves are made in the off season to look at prospective talent. In no way shape or form did this article say he made the team. And I think Teddy looked fine last year despite his minuscule status as some trolls have referred to. Packer trolls suck! SKOL

  9. I too am surprised, just like everybody else, at the level of talk coming from packer fans.

Who knew choking would lead to increased keyboard warrior syndrome!

  10. Smart move by the Vikings as the Canadians don’t yet know how utterly inept the Vikings franchise is. Once word gets out, those guys won’t want to go to Minnesota either.

Fact: Green Bay is in the bottom five destinations for NFL free agents

  11. Saskatchewan is a far more enjoyable place than Minnesota…I see Peters tanking minicamp on purpose.

  12. You have to love how Spieladope builds a team with various busts, low character (most arrests in the past 5 years), CFL, and Packer castoffs its no wonder they haven’t been above .500 in years meanwhile fighting Cleveland for the title of “Joke” of the NFL…………………………

Datone Jones, Perry, and one free agent signing since Moses was a child…

“I just can’t beleive Clinton Dix didn’t make a play on the ball” Troy Aikman.

  13. If the Packers are chokers for making it to the NFC Championship, what does that make the Vikings who haven’t even sniffed the playoffs for several years ?

I think bottom feeders is the appropriate term here.

  14. Aren’t the Vikings waiting for A.J. Hawk to get cut, so they can grab him before anyone else does?

    Get some new material..It’s old…
and how is Letroy Guion doing? It seems he is the most famous of a player going between the two teams

He actually is. Free Agent rookie DE. Real name is Joe Anoa’i.

  16. Its obvious from his size that the Vikings sign him to play in the defensive backfield, not LB.

And considering how much help the Vikings need in the secondary, this isn’t a bad move. Can he stand around and watch the ball zip over his head for yet another completion, then he will be a complement to the current starters, if he can actually cover anybody is a guess and would represent an immediate improvement for the 26th ranked pass defense.

For those challenged by math, that’s near the very bottom of the league. A spot all too familar for Viking fans.

  17. Fact Green Bay builds through the draft. We don’t wait for other teams castoffs like the Vikings…

    Just Guion and Peppers…

As a Viking fan I agree with you. People take statistics and act as though they are black and white with no variances.

In this case where someone mentioned the Packers are bottom 5 in NFL teams for free agents, the reason is exactly what you stated. Truth is there are several free agents that would love to play for GB.

  19. Just so you guys understand… The signing of Bostic is purely strategic. He’s fresh from the Packers and has intimate knowledge of the current offensive system (and an ax to grind. We’ll pick his brain and he’ll be 4th on our depth chart. Most likely trimmed when we get to 53.

  20. 2009: 11-5
    2010: 10-6, Won Super Bowl
    2011: 15-1, Won Division
    2012: 11-5, Won Division
    2013: 8-7-1, Won Division
2014: 12-4, Lost in NFC Championship in a game they clearly dominated for 55 minutes.

  21. Is 2012 really that long ago? It seems everyone has forgotten that we made the playoffs just a few seasons ago
Also, is anyone else confused why so many GB fans are this interested in the signings we are making? I’m just glad to see us making some moves and adding competition to our roster. I have a lot of confidence in our coaching staff now.

  22. Wow, Vikings got instantly better this past week by signing Bostick and then this ex-Roughrider. If I’m the Bears, I worry about the Vikings sneaking past me for 3rd place in the NFCN in 2015.

Doubt that. The reason he got cut, aside from the horrendous gaff in the NFCC, was because he couldn’t grasp the Packers playbook. 9 catches in 2 years. Best of luck to him but there was definitely no love left for him in GB.

  24. well, you can always count on us to look everywhere for talent.

I love the packers fans rippings this move, their team is nothing more then the indianopolis colts with an older QB and better o-line that only gets to the playoffs every year by planning in a weak division and usually exits the playoffs quickly. Fact.

  25. brewersfan,

Bostick might still do okay elsewhere. MM’s offense is one of the most complex in all of football, if not the most complex, due to all of the different variations available within each and every play. In a more traditional offense, with a much-less-complicated playbook, he might be okay.

Remember, the reason he stuck around for as long as he did was due to his physical gifts. He was thought to be on pretty much the same level as Finley, or at least close to the same level as Finley, as far as physical talents went.

Of course he won’t do anything with the Vikings, because well, they’re the Vikings. But he might still catch on somewhere and do alright for himself.

I don’t doubt it. He’s more of a blocker than a pass catcher and the Packers already have quality pass catching TE’s so that could have a lot to do with the lack of catches. Also, if he’s as bad as you say, why would he not only be on the active playoff game roster but actually on the field for the most crucial play of his teams season?

You do know the vikings were 7-9 and the Bears were 5-11?

they should change the name of offseason to trollseason. People are so desperate for football they become delusional and post.

They are unemployed and have nothing else to do. I don’t blame them really. In the 70’s and 80’s they never made the playoffs, and were still unemployed. At least now they have a reason to live, even if it is the off season.

  29. Remember when the Vikes signed Captain Munnerlyn? And you all just said he was a camp body? Then, it turned out that he was a starter for for the entire season? Even though he was terrible? That was funny.

I think the answer that question may be related to the firing of the Packers special teams coordinator.

Although, have to say, I much preferred my Pats having to the face the hawks rather than the packers, so thanks, Brandon!

    _______

I’ll admit he was terrible, but Captain Munnerlyn signed a 3-year $11.25 million contract with $4.45 million guaranteed. That’s not a camp body and nobody ever said he was. The idea was for him to start on the outside and then move to the slot in the nickel package, which was exactly what happened. Do you know anything?

I know Captian Munnerlyn is terrible. And predicted it last year.

I also know that Zygi’s goons had to drag Rob Brezinski off of AD’s agent, just because AD’s agent was telling Rob why AD hates the Vikings so much and wished they never drafted him.

Yet another example of Packer fan ignorance. Yes, the Vikings are listed as the 26th Passing Defense on NFL.com. HOWEVER, that is when you view the rankings with the yards allowed in descending order. The Vikings actually had the 7th BEST passing defense in the league last year.

    ——————————

If you want to know the facts, he actually played WR at Newberry college, where he also played basketball, so the Packers definitely brought him in to develop into a playmaker, and not a blocker.

As for these other “quality pass catching TEs”, could you name them please? Andrew Quarless has underwhelmed since he was drafted. And Richard Rodgers, who definitely improved as a rookie from week one to the end of the season and shows promise for next year, was hardly someone to be counted on from week to week.

Make no mistake, his limited playing time was solely based on his inability to pick up the playbook.

  36. The reason bostick was cut was because he was the Choker!!! Then the vikes wasted zero time picking him up, The vikings claimed bostick before he even knew he was cut from the best team in the NFL
