One of the top prospective free agent kickers will not hit the market.

The Falcons have signed Matt Bryant to a new contract, the club said on its website Wednesday.

Bryant, 39, connected on 29-of-32 field goals in 2014 for Atlanta, with all three of his misses from 50 yards and beyond. Overall, he is 148-of-167 on field goals since joining Atlanta in 2009 (.886), and he has not missed an extra point.

Bryant is one of many examples of kickers who needed time to find a foothold in the NFL, and his best work has come in his mid- and late-30s.

And now, Bryant will get to show what he’s capable of at age 40. The Falcons’ incumbent kicker celebrates that milestone birthday in late May.

  1. Its kinda sad to be a little worried if a kicker doesn’t resign or not. That’s how good this guy is. Matt Money Bryant is the man!

  2. Congrats, MB. As a Bucs fan, I’ll never forget that 62 harder you hit for us in 2006 to beat the Eagles.

  3. Better to keep the older, proven veteran than to take chances with a young unproven guy…Matt Ryan owes him big time for getting him his first (and to date, only) playoff win.
