Schefter confirms rumor of Dez Bryant video

Getty Images

In November, I caught wind of a potential situation involving Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant.  There were whispers of a video showing Bryant doing something he shouldn’t have been doing.  I was told multiple members of the NFL media had been chasing the video, but that no one had been able to find it.

I’ve done some minimal legwork since November, checking with the Cowboys to see if they were aware of the video (they said they weren’t) and talking to some folks in the media who acknowledged that:  (1) they’d heard about the video; and (2) they had no plans to address it absent hard proof that it exists.  I decided to let it simmer pending further information.

With the window for applying the franchise tag open and free agency approaching and the Cowboys and Bryant unable to work out a long-term deal and many wondering whether the team’s unwillingness to commit significant guaranteed money flows from off-field concerns, the simmer was starting to build toward a boil.  During an appearance last Friday with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, hosts Shan Shariff and RJ Choppy told me they’d heard from two different people that the Cowboys have a specific concern about Bryant.  And I blurted out something about the rumors regarding the video that may or may not exist.

I was careful to point out that it’s not known whether the video exists, explaining that reporters covering the NFL had been trying for months to find the video.  Appearing Monday on ESPN 1000 in Chicago, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that.

Asked about the rumors of a Dez Bryant video, Schefter said (measuring his words very carefully) that he has heard about the video and that he knows what’s on it.

I’ve been working on this since September,” Schefter said.  “There’s a lot involved.”

Schefter also said he doesn’t know whether the video will come out.

“It’s taken up a lot of my time this season,” Schefter added, explaining that what he’s been working on isn’t ready and may never be.

Since Friday, it’s definitely taken up plenty of my time.  I’ve spent lots of time on the phone trying to determine whether the video exists, and I’ve submitted a request under the Texas Public Information Act to the appropriate agency, with the goal of getting the video (if it exists) and any related documents (if they exist).

Primarily, the goal is to get a clear answer on this, one way or the other.  If there’s a video, the Cowboys and the NFL need to know about it, and to act accordingly based on its contents.  If there’s no video, then it’s better for Bryant if the situation comes to a head now.  Otherwise, the rumor will linger — and it eventually will impact the offers that one or more teams are willing to extend to him.

I talked about the situation at the outset of Wednesday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio, and several other times throughout the program.  My understanding is that the incident (if there was one) happened in 2011, and that the video (if there is one) may contain footage of someone other than Dez Bryant.

For Bryant’s part, he tweeted on Wednesday afternoon, “I need to get me a real raw uncut tv show or something … I can’t continue to get betrayed like this.”  Bryant has since deleted the tweet.

On Friday, Bryant posted an even more cryptic message that contained no specific denial of the existence of a video, but that instead referred to people taking advantage of him and not being ashamed of any past incidents.

  1. Happened a while ago, someone is trying to cash in on a big paycheck since Dez probably has stopping paying them to stay quiet about it all. It will get bought by the Cowboys and it will all be okay for Dez in the end. If this video does get out, Goodell is going to have himself a way bigger mess to deal with in comparison to Ray Rice (based on everyone saying the video is 5x worse)

  2. If a video did exist you’d think there would be more details about it other than it just existing. Maybe details from somebody that had seen it about what Dez is actually doing other than being ‘Ray Rice-like’

  3. “There were whispers of a video showing Bryant doing something he shouldn’t have been doing.”

That isnt vague at all. sounds like you have all the information you need to perpetuate the rumor

  4. If it is indeed from 2011, then it should have NO bearing on what happens now. As long as he didn’t kill someone; I don’t care if it is a video of Bryant doing something he shouldn’t; it is in the past and it should remain there ! There seems to be a feeling in the media that its okay to dredge up someone’s past regardless of when it occurred.
This is 2015, that’s four years ago ……. past the time to just let it go.

  5. If it’s way worse than the Ray Rice video, why wasn’t he ever charged with a crime?

Maybe Dez has better representation than Rice and they destroyed the video before it got leaked.

  6. Most of us don’t judge people when they are at their worst, especially if no one was hurt. People are human and make mistakes. Others are quick to judge no matter the circumstance. An intelligent person does not worry what the latter type thinks.

  7. every sunday I watch him on video doing something he shouldn’t be doing – wasting his talents on an 8-8 team.

  8. any such video will just confirm what we already know ..Dez Bryant = Michael Irvin 2.0

  9. So if its the Pats virtually every member of the media jumps on any wild claim and trumpets it to the heavens as if its fact.

But for the Cowboys the media keeps its mouth shut and tries to do actual research to see if there’s any truth to it.

    That’s called a double standard.

  10. So Schefter knows what’s on the video, but doesn’t know if that will ever come out. Is this some new version of journalistic ethics, or just the same old, same old that covered for the steroid users in baseball and have yet to make an issue of of Rice’s stickum useage?

  11. Who seriously cares what any player does in their spare time? You either watch the NFL for the games or use your time more wisely reading the articles on TMZ.

  12. So, there may (or may not) exist a video of Dez Bryant (or maybe someone that kinda looks like him) doing something that he shouldn’t do? Gotcha.

  13. I’ve been watching lots of videos to make sure he’s not in them. On the plus side, Edge of Tomorrow is a surprisingly good movie.

  14. No offense to Schefter, but about 50% of what he reports isn’t accurate. So I’m not sure why we should just assume that because he’s “heard” there is a video, we should believe there is a video. Hearing there is one is different than knowing there is one. It’s amazing how sloppy this reporting really can be from supposed professionals.

  15. It is interesting that people are saying they know whats on the tape….but they haven’t seen or don’t have the video??????? Am i missing something???? What to they actually KNOW??? Is it really worse than Ray Rice’s video? How do they KNOW? Based on the rumors??? Oh please!!

  16. Just some losers he cut out of his life recently trying to get money from him. It was supposed to have happened in a Walmart, no witnesses, no cameras?

Nothing to see here, move along.

  17. What I don’t understand is that if this is “5x worse than Ray Rice” (whatever that means), why weren’t there any arrests or charges? Didn’t both Ray and his wife get arrested within hours of their situation?

TMZ had the Rice video within 4 or 5 days. This has been months since Schefty started investigating, and there’s nothing but a rumor?

The only possibilities I see are complete fabrication, or based on Dez’s reaction, and old friend has some video dirt on him from years ago that they’re trying to make a dime off.

  18. Well this makes it easier for jerra to pick who to pay its Gota be Murry now that would suck to lose him then have dez get suspended for the yr

  19. if you read his words, especially the last thing he said, I don’t think he confirmed its existence. it seems to me he confirmed that he has heard rumors, and that he has been working on finding out if they’re true since sept.

    Patriots lose 1st round pick.
    Fined $500K.

And if it turns out that there actually IS a video of Dez “doing something”

Pats lose a 2nd round pick too and Belichick is suspended for 2015 season ……

    Its only fair….

Rape, molestation, beating a woman… I’m sure I can think of more. But that’s things off the top of my head someone shouldn’t be forgiven for just because it was “in the past”.

Just some losers he cut out of his life recently trying to get money from him. It was supposed to have happened in a Walmart, no witnesses, no cameras?
    _______

I think there was a camera, given that there seems to be a video.

  23. The media now spends all this time and effort on sports players and their private lives how about you guys do the same with our politicians and leaders are they not more where we should be looking for our morality and examples instead of someone who plays a game?????

  24. Terez Owens says that it is something that is 5 times worse what Ray Rice did. If this comes out, he is going to have trouble getting a deal. If you saw a politician beating up a woman, would you say “no worries, that was 5 years ago.”

  25. Please continue the smear campaign of rumor and innuendo.

a lot changes in 4 years and I have to think Dez has matured. I am willing to bet the Cowboys think he has….otherwise they would have just let his contract expire rather than trying to resign him.

  26. Blackmail is the best explanation for this. Someone connected with his entourage filmed him doing something without his knowledge. And this person is trying to wring every last cent they can out of Dez before they do release the video.

Either that, or the video doesn’t exist in the first place. Come to think of it, that’s the best explanation to why this video hasn’t surfaced yet. Whatever it’s supposed to be.

  27. How is Dez supposed to disprove the existance of something that may not really exist? Mike, prove to me that unicorns have never been in your backyard. PROVE IT!!!

We live in a ridiculous world.

  28. They say the video is so bad it’s “five times worse than the Ray Rice video and that his “football career is in jeopardy.”

The Cowboys continue to claim that no such video exists but if the rumors are true and the video gets released to the public, it could have a seismic impact on the NFL.

  29. If rules were already in place and upheld for people like Dez right now everybody would be roasting him for costing the Cowboys the game, not for not making the catch, but for getting his team flagged for walking on the field with his helmet off to argue with an official.

If he was even being held to the same standard of any other NFL player, we would be judging him much more poorly than we already do.

Video evidence of him doing something stupid, is just reconfirmation of everything we already know about Dez’s maturity.

  30. Man…. if they only had tapes of me doing stuff back in the day.

EVERYONE has done something stupid. Really tired of living in a country where your first mistake is your last.

As long as it’s not him killing or raping someone, he’ll be ok.

  31. “As long as he didn’t kill someone; I don’t care if it is a video of Bryant doing something he shouldn’t; it is in the past and it should remain there ! ”

As long as he didn’t kill someone???! So, rape is okay? Assault? Theft? Where do you draw the line. It happened 3 or 4 years ago (allegedly). So, if he broke the law, then it is NOT simply “dredging” up ones past.

  32. Wouldn’t surprise me if the rumors of a video showing Dez doing something horrible were started by vindictive family members upset that Dez quit giving them free monetary handouts and are trying to blackmail him into paying to make the “video” disappear.

  33. Report says he clocked a chick at a Walmart. Who cares if it was a sex tape? In todays world, it should not be hard to find a videotape of any criminal incident.. Please

  34. You have to wonder if the Cowboys are somehow sneakily involved setting him up and having video evidence so they can pull it out or make references to said video around contract negotiation time. It was rather convenient that this all came in during the season when they were first talking about a new contract.

Same thing happened to Marshawn Lynch last year when he called for a new contract, and lo and behold, a conveniently timed assault charge came up from a mysterious woman. Hmmmm

  35. “For Bryant’s part, he tweeted on Wednesday afternoon, “I need to get me a real raw uncut tv show or something … I can’t continue to get betrayed like this.” Bryant has since deleted the tweet.”

Has anybody considered that the Cowboys have been dangling this video over his head since last fall?

It could be, I can see Jerrah doing this and also, I’ll bet anything the NFL has known about this incident since at least then too.

This is going to be some kind of ugly for everybody involved, including the NFL.

Doesn’t change the fact that the Packers are choke job artists.
    ////////////////////////////////////////

The season is over. The Seahawks have lessened the burden for the Packers. Nobody cares but Viking trolls. They have another reason to live every time the Packers are mentioned, even if they have to mention them first……like this guy.

  37. Why does it seem more important whether there’s a video or not than whether he DID something wrong/illegal/evil?

Media makes it sound like if there’s no tape then he did nothing wrong.

  38. SVP and his show are the last ones standing at the mothership that anyone can feel like they aren’t being completely lied to. Schefter, come on, guy just makes up as much stuff as any of the other NFL “insiders”. Used to be a time when getting information correct was important because folks had a shred of integrity. Now just say whatever you want with zero consequences.

  39. It’s said to be an incident from 4 years ago from Walmart security video that his jilted former friends are trying to use as extortion. Not sure how they got the video from Walmart.

So why no arrests? Why no comment from Walmart? Why can’t Shefter or Florio, who DESPERATELY want to find mud on the Cowboys, get anything on this in six months time?

Sounds like a lot of people did a lot of wrong things in this process, and the off-beat media is reluctant to pay extortionist thieves for the stolen video and show it.

Why aren’t the police investigating everybody here?

  40. “Doesn’t change the fact that the Packers are choke job artists.”
It is far better to get there and choke than not to get there at all,the the Vikings, Bears and Lions all will agree with that. next year the artistry of choking will end when they win it all.

  41. Ryan Grigson had concerns about the video since November and informed the league about its existence prior to the Super Bowl. John Harbaugh has denied any role in alerting Grigson about the video.

  42. Very confusing situation. If it is something 5x worse than what Ray Rice did, and it happened in a public place like Walmart, how is there no real information on the matter or arrest record. Because if it’s worse than Rice, its obviously a crime. Personal opinion is that he did do something wrong but whatever it is, is being partially fabricated to sound worse than the truth and possibly that someone is attempting to extort him. The time frame would certainly seem to suggest so. “Give me some money, or I’ll release this video right before you get tagged or sign a long time deal and it will cost you millions more than what you would pay me”. And people can say what they want about the Cowboys and Jerry Jones but any suspicion that they’re behind this for the sake of getting him to take a lower deal I think are off base. Not to say that they don’t have knowledge of it and are truely hesitant but I can’t see them being the ones perpetuating it. Jerry would rathrr sign him to a big deal rather than throw something like this out and risk being pressured to cut ties with him altogether

  43. And this is why people like Lynch don’t want to talk to the media. I’ll say this, unless there is a serious crime being committed on that video, its none of our business.

  44. Is this going to be like the “smoking gun” than Sean Hannity crowed about incessantly that turned out to be a tape of Obama standing next to some guy twenty five years ago?

  45. Adam schefter is reporting that he has been trying to find a video that could ruin someone else’s life for the past five months. What a scum bag. And then the media wonders why the players hate them. I could careless what he did. When I go to the circus I want to see the clown so i can laugh. I dont care what he does at home. When I watch football I want to see guys help my team win. Could careless about them off the field.

The rumor is that he punched out a woman at a Wal*Mart. What is he doing in a Wal*Mart in the first place?
    ===

Everybody shops at places like that. I met Gary Danielson (Former Lions QB, now on ESPN) in a K-Mart in Michigan and Hulk Hogan in a Subway restaurant in Florida. Met the guy who played Radar on M*A*S*H at the gas station, too. Celebrities don’t stay at home and hide, they live life just like all of us do.

  47. I’m sure if it were anything important Goodell and Kensil would be giving finding this video at least half the attention they’ve given to footballs that *gasp* adhere to the laws of physics

  48. The saddest thing about this entire story is that Schefter spent most of last season working on trying to ruin a man’s career. That and exactly that is why I mostly hate the media in general and am getting really tired of sports media specifically.

With that being said, I’m not saying anything criminal he did should be forgotten about or swept under the rug. Not at all. But for Schefter to devote most of last season to this is absolutely disgusting. How about we get back the focus back to the sport, the games and the teams? This individual personal life stuff is getting out of control. We all have our demons and skeletons in our closets. All of us, including Schefter.

  49. Is it possible Dallas has the video(if it exists), kept it in the vault, denying it exists, only to pull it out on a very rainy day such as negotiating a 100+ Mil contract/franchise tag in the media?
Please enlighten me as to why this story has been dead a few years, and magically rears it’s head when Bryant doesn’t accept their offer?

  50. So basically Schefter is saying that he’s been working for a very long time to investigate a matter that will damage an NFL player. Good luck getting future interviews with other players, Schef’.

  51. I need to see the video, two forms of government ID, a police officer there to verify the whole thing, four or five of my buddies taking notes and Dez’s grandma to confirm his identify. That will convince me he’s guilty.

  52. Who cares? Even if there is a video it happen in 2011 and the only reason it’s coming out now is because he is about to get a big payday. People always trying to bring down another person, especially the media.

  53. So, according to various gossip sites, the video will be released very shortly. And does show him beating up a woman in 2011.
Does the league have the authority to punish a player for a 4 yr old offense? I am not defending what might be truly awful behavior, but what is the limit? What should be done if this video really exists, and is bad as rumored?

  54. How can Sheftner confirm there is a rumor but then state that he knows what is on the video????? If he knows there IS a video and knows what is on it then it should no longer be a rumor. I can’t help but think that the powers that be have already seen the video but because Jerrah is one of Goodell’s best buddies, the NFL is trying to brush this one under the rug and hope it all dies down.

  55. “Rape, molestation, beating a woman… I’m sure I can think of more. But that’s things off the top of my head someone shouldn’t be forgiven for just because it was “in the past”.”

Sorry there is a thing called Statue of Limitations, which says that if the violation is in the past for so long it’s no longer a punishable crime !

  56. This sounds like someone is trying to shake him down for some money. If a video actually exists, then either produce it or shut up already.

  57. So how does the Texas Freedom of Information Act apply to Walmart, a private business? Was this video submitted to the local Texas police department for prosecution, and none was undertaken because, well, it occurred in Texas?

  58. Bryant could have let himself be video taped beating a woman unconscious, then raping her, and half of the clowns who post here would complain about how Bryant is getting a raw deal and how Goodell doesn’t allow the players to have any fun and blah blah blah.

Personally, I don’t care about a story that doesn’t offer any proof of anything. If evidence ever shows up that proves Bryant did anything , Bryant ahold be suspended for life from the NFL. Lifetime bans are the only thing that will make players think about their actions. Now, the NFL has a policy where they allow players to be paid not to work. It is insane. Rice should never play again and neither should Peterson. And if Bryant is found to have committed any sort of violent act against a weaker gender or child, he should be banned for life as well.

Go ahead and down vote my comment to show how classless you are.

  59. “Sorry there is a thing called Statue of Limitations”

    It’s “statute”, not “statue”.

Sorry, I hate to be the spelling and grammar police, but for some reason, this is one that always annoys me.

  60. The NFL sells the idea of “inclusion” better than any other sport. The idea that the fan is part of the team. Raider Nation. The 12th man.

They are selling an identity, or at least a peice of an identity.

And if someone commits an act like what Ray Rice committed – something really dirty and vile – then customers, at least a certain percentage of them, will no longer want to be part of the team. They don’t want to be included in something dirty.

So yeah, a tape that shows something that will turn fans away from wanting to be part of the team and identify with them, regardless of the LEGALITY of the acts on the tape, is probably the single most damaging thing that could happen to a franchise and thus the NFL as a whole.

  61. This is one dumb story or no story at all. Seems like all the maybe there is and maybe there’s not just put a cloud of doubt on Dez. It could be what is stopping the Cowboys from a long term contract with him. Stop the nonsense until there is proof of some wrong doing.

  62. Reports state:

The video was shot in a Walmart.
The video was taken by “bad influences” whom he no longer hangs around.
These “bad influences” have set a deadline for TMZ or the Cowboys to buy this video from them.
These “bad influences” have also sent screenshots from the video in an effort to sell it.
That aforementioned deadline expires later today.
The line on this video is that it is 5x worse than the Ray Rice video.
So what is 5x worse than the Rice video? You’re all consumed with the Ray Rice analogy thinking it is about a woman. Instead think: Adrian Peterson. Dez does have two young sons. This video concerns them.

  63. Some who claim to know its content have described it as “worse than the Ray Rice video”.

If that’s the case it wouldn’t be a Sex Tape or Drugs. Sex or Drugs are nowhere close to being worse than the Ray Rice video.

I could care less if he’s filmed having sex or doing casual drugs. Most people would shrug a video like that off easily. That’s a basic Friday night in college.

We’ll see. Interesting timing for sure with the Cowboys having this looming over negotiations and possibly having to choose between Dez and Demarco. If it is violence related, it would be interesting to boot Demarco in favor of AP given the recent issues there.

  64. I start a rumor by telling someone I know who likes to gossip said rumor. I then go and talk to a friend of the person I told the rumor to and they ask me if I heard about said rumor. I just confirmed the rumor I started.

  65. Sensationalism at it’s peak. I know what’s on the video but I will not reveal the contents. Why even bring it up? What is the point of this story? What a waste of time!

  66. It’s obvious that the person or person’s with this video are waiting for the absolute perfect time to drop it. And that’s going to be when the Cowboys window for tagging Bryant opens and before he hits the free agent market.

Very obvious what’s going on here.

  67. “Schefter confirms rumor”

A.S. is a schmuckel who tries to act as a reporter.

Very chameleon like as he will jump on any story and garble as if he really knows something.
    Typical ESPN bs story teller.

  68. I’m going to guess it involves bullying, domestic assault and a deflated football thus completing the medias golden triangle.

An interesting clip would be him taking an injection.

  69. LOL @ the “Statue of limitations” guy a couple posts up the thread.

It is “Statute” and the limit is not up if it only happened a few years ago. Some crimes have no limit, some are many years.

What likely happened is that Bryant paid someone off. Maybe Jerry paid someone off. Paying someone off to not press charges does not mean Bryant didn’t do anything wrong. Some people will defend pro athletes regardless of how bad a person the athlete may be. Why? Probably fantasy football or something else meaningless.

  70. Nothing gets journalists more motivated than the whiff of something rotten. If there were a reported video of someone doing a good deed, would anyone chase it? Nope.

  71. Video of him vs. GB hitting the ground initially with the ball, so it was an incomplete pass from the start, regardless of the silly, arcane “process” rule.

  72. THIS is why NFL teams need to be legally protected from the consequences of the actions of idiotic players who are represented by a union.

  73. ““I’ve been working on this since September,” Schefter said. “There’s a lot involved.”

Schefter also said he doesn’t know whether the video will come out.

“It’s taken up a lot of my time this season,” Schefter added, explaining that what he’s been working on isn’t ready and may never be.”

Are we talking about Dez, or Deflategate???

I wish the NFL would move the draft up to the day after the Superbowl. Nowadays the time lag between the two is embarrassing for every member of the sports media.

  74. REALLY? 133 people commenting on something that MAY OR MAY NOT have happened FOUR years ago? If memory serves me correctly, that was about the time he was getting in trouble over and over again. So the relevance to the intervening FOUR YEARS is less important than a witch hunt? This is pathetic.

“There were whispers of a video showing Bryant doing something he shouldn’t have been doing.”

That isnt vague at all. sounds like you have all the information you need to perpetuate the rumor
    ____________________________________
Anyone who has talked about the rumor has talked about it in a similar manner. I’m pretty sure the point is that if there isn’t a video, or it’s not him in the video, then talking specifically about the rumor could create the false impression that he actually did something he shouldn’t have done. That would both damage his reputation (and perhaps his income) without cause, and leave them open to some large lawsuits.

  76. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. And a rumor is only a rumor until the facts come out.

50 Shades of Dez. It’s always something with this guy, but he had shown marked maturation over the last few years. The Cowboys had him on a pretty tight leash back when this alleged incident was supposedly videotaped.

Let’s assume the worst. There is a video and what’s on it is really bad. If that’s the case, someone is in possession of it or has a copy. If it shows Dez committing a criminal act, such as violent assault, then the person in possession of the video is also committing a criminal act by not releasing it to the authorities. If the video is being used for blackmail, that also is a crime.

Something is really wrong here. Were the Cowboys informed of the video and told what was on it? If so, they should immediately contacted the authorities. If not, if all they heard were rumors, they may not believe the video exists, but are concerned that if it does and it is released, the repercussions could be severe, which is why they’ve been hesitant to sign Dez to a long term contract. The contract they offered him only had guaranteed money that did not exceed the franchise tag. That says something.

Suppose the Cowboys sign or tag Dez, and the video is released and it’s really bad. It will no doubt go viral, and Goodell will come down hard, probably with a multiple game or full season suspension. There will be an investigation, and if it is discovered that the Cowboys did know of the existence of the video and what’s on it, but deliberately tried to conceal it, that would be the worst case scenario, because Goodell could go Saints on the Cowboys, a heavy fine, loss of draft picks, suspend the coach for a year, set their rebuilding project back for a decade.

Odd, the timing of a rumor about a video. Either someone has it out for Dez, or possibly the Cowboys, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire. If there is a video and it is released and it is really bad, the firestorm that erupts could burn down Jerry World.

  77. Sounds like he’s being covered for like he was Bill Clinton.

It sure is a lot different approach than the deflategate non story.

  78. I think the NFL should be transparent.

Let the fans watch the video and we will decide if it warrants any fines or suspension.

Fire Goodell and use that 45mil for retired concussed players each year.

  79. I doubt the video exists. If it’s so bad, he would’ve been charged with a crime already. You can’t keep a video rumor out there without law enforcement seeing it

  80. Why does the phrase “confirms rumor” seem rather odd? Once a rumor is out, why does it have to be confirmed that it’s out?

It’s a video of Dez taking the Wunderlic test. It is brutal and shocking.

    |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

    Hysterical!

  83. If true deserves to be suspended for the entire season just like ray rice and AP!!!. Anything less would further prove the fact that some players are giving passes just to help tv ratings.

  84. I can’t reveal my sources … but on the video Dez deflates 11 of the 12 “official” Roger Goodell autographed NFL footballs in WalMart’s sporting goods dept.

    So … yeah, it’s serious.

The rumor is that he punched out a woman at a Wal*Mart. What is he doing in a Wal*Mart in the first place?
    ===

    ======================================

It was a joke, but he should upgrade his shopping destinations. There’s probably a Target nearby. 🙂

  86. More troubling to me than a possible Dez Bryant video, is this statement from the author of this article:
“and I’ve submitted a request under the Texas Public Information Act to the appropriate agency, with the goal of getting the video (if it exists) and any related documents (if they exist)”

I guess he feels it is his RIGHT to see this video.

    Scary thought.

  87. When the accusation is the crime, then all there has to be is an accusation, and the presumption of guilt sets in. Accusation=crime=guilt, and there is no due process or rule of law.

When a rumor is accepted as truth, then there is no truth. There is only rumor.

If an assault did occur at a Wal-Mart, and it is on videotape, why weren’t the authorities notified? Why didn’t the victim file a complaint?

This all seems very fishy to me. I don’t know if there is a video or not. If there is, I don’t know what’s on it. What I do know is that if there is a video and if what’s on it is really bad, then Wal-Mart, the Cowboys, Dez Bryant, and the possessor have a lot to answer for.

But since the video has not been produced, I have no reason to believe that it exists. I have reason to believe there is a rumor that it exists, but nothing more than that. Until the video is produced, it doesn’t exist. It’s just a rumor.

I find it hard to believe that a crime caught on a Wal-Mart security video wasn’t turned over to the police. I find that very hard to believe. Maybe it was captured on a cell phone camera and not on a security camera. Or maybe the alleged incident didn’t occur at a Wal-Mart but somewhere else where there were no security cameras, only cell phone cameras.

Either way, until the video is produced, there is nothing more than a rumor of a video. Without tangible evidence, a rumor is only a rumor. And that has no standing in a court of law.

I’m just saying that if there is a video, and it’s really bad, then there will be hell to pay when it’s released. And the Cowboys will come out on the short end of the stick.

Until such time, I will reserve judgment. If there is a video, produce it. If there is not, don’t report on the rumor that there is one. All that does is perpetuate the media myth that the rumor is the truth and the accusation is the crime.

Oh, and by the way, I don’t believe anything Adam Schefter says about anything. He’s just another reporter, repeating what he’s been told, much like the writers on this site. Since when did a rumor become news?

When there is tangible evidence, there will be an investigation. Until such time, nothing is known.

  88. Imagine a world where people who knew how to write became sports writers.

In that world, the sports writers would realize that “confirming” a rumor made it a fact. Said writers would realize that acknowledging that they had also heard the rumor and were following up on it did not amount to “confirming” it. In other words, no matter how many sportswriters had heard the rumor, it would remain a rumor until someone confirmed it, making it a fact.

If you can’t follow that, send your resume to TMZ.

Doesn’t change the fact that the Packers are choke job artists.
    ////////////////////////////////////////

The season is over. The Seahawks have lessened the burden for the Packers. Nobody cares but Viking trolls. They have another reason to live every time the Packers are mentioned, even if they have to mention them first……like this guy.
    ===================================

A packer fan who doesn’t want to live in the past!
Now there’s a story for Schefter to follow.

  90. So let me get this rumor straight. Dez’s dirt bag ex friends have hold of a walmart surveillance video that neither the dallas cowboys, the nfl, nor any other gossip channel can get their hands on. And then being the maniacal geniuses that they are, in a scene straight out of breaking bad, use this information to blackmail the before mentioned parties for hundreds of millions of dollars. Yes that makes perfect sense. As chris penn said in reservoir dogs, why don’t you tell me what really happened.

  91. He confirmed the rumor? What the hell does that even mean? Yes, there’s a rumor.

I don’t like this trial by innuendo stuff. For all we know it’s a video of Dez stealing a chocolate chip cookie from the cookie jar.

When you have an actual video, give me a call. Otherwise I don’t think people should “imply” things they can’t back up with evidence.

  92. If something happened at a Walmart, best believe there IS a video! And why doesn’t Dez just tell the ‘real’ story on Jeter’s webpage or whatever the F Oprah magazine he tried to start…

  93. Yeah, I gotta Unicorn in my back yard. It’s next to the pot of gold under the rainbow, over by the beanstalk and the rabbit hole Alice is playing around…

  94. Obviously, Dez Bryant was taped deflating the balls, it could never have been related to Tom Brady. He is inoocent. He wouldn’t know a ball that is deflated 2 pounds or not.
