Adrian Peterson issues statement

On Thursday, Judge David Doty overturned the arbitration decision upholding the suspension of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.  While Peterson is not yet reinstated (and who knows when he will be?), he has been returned to the Commissioner-Exempt list, which allows him to speak to the Vikings.

On Friday, he spoke publicly, via press release.  Here’s the full content of it:

“I was pleased to learn about Judge Doty’s decision.  It is a positive step in protecting players’ rights and preserving due process for all players.  It also brings me one step closer to getting back on the football field and playing the sport I love.  As I prepare for my return to football, I am still focused on my family and continue to work to become a better father every day.  I want to express my gratitude for all of the support I have received from the fans, NFLPA, Jeffrey Kessler, and my agents Ben Dogra, Tracy Lartigue, and Mark Heligman from Relativity Sports.”

Peterson says nothing about whether he does or doesn’t want to return to the Vikings.  Last week, he confirmed that he has some misgivings about returning to Minnesota, which holds his rights for the next three seasons.

  1. Man. As a PACK guy, I’m really hoping he doesn’t come back to the Vike’s. They have Teddy and AP and that D. Not looking good for m’Packas, I think the window is closing quickly. New coach, time to groom the next QB. Hate to say it but I think MY GUY ROGERS is kinda declining. Not as clutch as the old days, especially in playoffs. Man, rough offseason so far. GO PACK!!!!!

    >

  2. Despite what you think of Peterson, can this circus please be the beginning of the end of Goodell? How many times does this guy have to botch a situation before it’s obvious the job is too big for him?

It’s really, really time for him to go. He’s actually getting me to dislike the NFL intensely.

  3. I’d like to issue my own statement:

“Thanks for the memories, Adrian. Best of luck to you as you get your personal life in order. Now kindly get on board the Teddy Train or prepare to be traded to whichever team offers the largest wheelbarrow full of draft picks.”

  4. I wish he’d stick to letting his reps release these types of statements. These are fine. He seems to put his foot in his mouth whenever he actually does the talking. I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but he clearly doesn’t know how to play the media/PR game.

  5. If you’re going to pretend to be a fan of another team … then you really can’t be that obvious. It’s embarrassing. Try to be more nuanced. And way fewer caps.

  6. Oh look, fake Packers fan is still pretending anyone buys his act. When you can’t even spell Rodgers’ name correctly in any of your comments, it kind of gives you away.

  7. The NFL has really made a mess of this. Sometimes when you’rr in a deep hole, the best thing you can do is stop digging. I think the NFL should seek a face-saving solution, and drop the legal battle. This won’t happen with the current commissioner.

  8. Floratiotime——did you not like the PACK fan? He obviously was a real big PACKERS fan. I’ll hate it for him when the PACKERS lose again this year. Vikings will give the PACK a run for their money. PACKERS suck.

  9. I love watching all of you wanting to get rid of Goodell. Do you think he cares? How many millions (or is it billions?) has he made? He doesn’t NEED the job anymore. Sure, there may be a little bit of ego involved but when push comes to shove, he gets the last laugh over everyone.

  10. I am an Eagles fan. Rodgers is declining like Bill Gates is losing money. You are Packer fan from pluto. LOL!
Rodgers IS IN HIS PRIME !!!

  11. This was very generic and obviously written by his lawyer/agent team. It is not news and sheds no light on moving forward. Don’t you just wish he had said he was looking forward to meeting with the team to address his immediate future? Put the pressure on the NFL/team to fix this and let everyone get some closure.

  12. I know the Ravens aren’t going to touch anyone with domestic violence background but wondering if they will take a look at a father who still believes in corporal punishment…. AP could stay in Purple!!!

  13. The only statement I want to see from Adrian Peterson is him personally speaking in front of a camera, apologizing for his past actions and the terrible position he put this football team in and promising to do everything he can to make it up to his family, his teammates, and his fans. Until then, save it.

The funny thing is Packer fans call out the fake Packer fan but they believe every word written by the dozens of fake Viking fans on this site.
    ———–

Except the “fake Vikings fan” you refer to gets loads of thumbs up from the “real Vikings fans.” So, even if those “fake” fans really are fake, they seem to be saying exactly what the “real” fans are thinking.

  15. Ironic that a statement clearly written by his agent, thanks his agent and his attorney. Then again, after listening to his unscripted comments the last 8 years, I completely understand why his statement is scripted.

Having said that, it’s equally clear they intentionally didn’t thank anyone from the Vikings, adding further fuel to the “he’s gone” fire.

  16. I can understand why he is mad at the NFL and Vikings. After all they paid him millions of dollars not to play. Anybody would be mad about that.

  17. Hey, AP doesn’t owe me anything. I don’t need apologies, remorse etc. due process has occurred. A football players career is about 10 years if you are lucky and he lost a year of it. I’m tired of this being the story of the century. How much longer can they drag this out?

  18. What the comments on this site’s articles about either the Pack or MIN show me is that the fans of those teams have nothing to do but troll each other. You are as annoying and lame on here as you are in real life.

  19. Which one of you guys have never been whip with a switch? GIVE ME A DAMN BREAK!!!! I’m a southern baptist. Raised just like that. I’ve never had handcuffs on, never been ask to get out of my car, never been arrested. I graduated from a HBU, have a great job and a great family. He did go to far by breaking the skin on the child. That what his butt is for. I would be willing to bet that there are more kids going to prison today than there were when I came up in the 60’s and 70’s. I thank my mom everyday for some of those “SPANKING” I got

hmm….no mention of ‘Vikings’ anywhere in his statement…

Yeah, you seem super well adjusted!

  22. AP makes a statement that says absolutely nothing or nothing we haven’t already heard before.

Why issue a statement unless you are going to say something to take note of…

#28 is trying to get out of Minnesota, if they call his bluff and do nothing, he will play for the Vikings…

  23. numba1wiscosportsfan, seriously, it is painfully obvious you are just another purple turd in disguise.

    It’s not original, nor funny.
Truth be told, it’s kind of sad and pathetic.
But then again, you are a Viking fan.

  24. And the Packers choking continues. Jealous Packers trolls are threatening Bostick, pathetic, worse fans ever in any sports. While Vikings fans welcome AP back with open arms. It’s fact, Vikings fans are the best in any sports. Done!!!!

  25. Well AP, do society a favor, stop beating your kids, show some remorse for your actions, apologize to the fanbase you let down, stop acting like you are the victim, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and help the team you left in a lurch get back to the playoffs, that’s called being a man big boy!

  26. One commentator posted that AP is not a good person and received more downvotes than up.

How is AP a good person? The guy is a garbage-person/sociopath that impregnates women around the country, either neglects his kids (he saw the kid that was murdered for the first time at the funeral) or beats them with a stick to the point of cutting their scrotum, and has a habit of crushing people’s hands when he shakes them (both men and women) and laughing when they cry out in pain.

    Throw this garbage out.

  27. Hey Carl, still bitter about the Championship game? I bet it is but get use to it because it’s coming again this year and for the next generation.

  28. ariani1985 says: Feb 27, 2015 6:09 PM

Big pack guy here too! I am sick of all my fellow packer trolls like meca/carl/stellar who do nothing but troll Viking articles. Go pack!

Did you forget to log out and sign back on as one of your other accounts? “tokyogasblaster” and “Filthymcfunny” are clearly both you, based on the (lack of) grammar and maturity.

  29. Cody, while I wish what you are saying was true, the truth is far from it. Our so-called brothers in purple on here put every other teams trolls to shame, and not in a good way. The majority of the Vikings fans on here are pretty pathetic, you even sometimes go there, and you really shouldn’t because once in a while you share some pretty intelligent comments.

Grow up Viking trolls, I would wager that if people like the poet, ariani and the fake packer guy would just speak in an intelligent manner, the pack trolls on here would lay off. Ah, but of course that is too much to ask.

Be fans of the game, and your team without letting your jealous desires make you have to say things about other teams that are meaningless. Ya the packers suck, really? I would trade our record for theirs over the last 10 years. Ya Rodgers sucks and chokes, really? I would trade Teddy and any other QB we have had for him in a heartbeat. Lacy sucks, uh huh…. right. Cobb and Nelson aren’t that good….. yeah our best receiver heading into this year wasn’t even 8th best on their roster when he was let go.

Please stop being so pathetic Vikings, I find it pretty sad that packers fans pay more respect to da bears fans then us, but it is because of the idiots that do nothing but spew drivel…

  30. The Cardinals are clearing cap room quicker than Vince Young clears a bank account. Peterson to Arizona for Andre Ellington and this year’s #1. MARK IT.

  31. Well Adrian, we know you want to be traded to Green Bay so you can “stick it to the Vikings” and win a Superbowl ring to boot, but we regret to inform you that we are already set at running back. Thank you for your interest and good luck! 😉

They are all fake. You think anyone can be a real fan of that club?

    =======================================

Imagine if he pulled down his girlfriends pants, stuffed leaves in her mouth and beat her with a switch up and down the front and back of her legs until bloody, including her privates. Children have less protection.

  34. I can’t blame AP for being upset at the NFL and Vikings for his aggressive suspension last year. I also can’t blame the NFL and Vikings for acting the way they did given the culture after the Ray Rice situation. It’s a complicated world sometimes.

  35. The Vikings need to let AD go to Dallas, where he is universally loved. NFL dot com’s Ian Rapaport says AD is not just uneasy about returning to the Vikings, but also the state of Minnesota. AD committed a low-level misdemeanor in Texas and Minnesotans threatened sponsors, got the Governor to come out against him, forced the team to put him on the non-exempt list for the rest of the season, called him a child abuser, dug up dirt on his sexual life, etc. etc. Having a disgruntled AD on the Vikings is bad enough, but nobody can afford to have confrontations between AD and these self-righteous Minnesota mobs lynching him as a child abuser.

  36. You can bet his dad is the one spreading rumors. I would bet Mr Pederson has heard from no one but the league tellng him they are filing an appeal too. This ain’t over, the fat lady ain’t sung yet

  37. No “Thanks” to the Vikings organization in the statement?

    Sincerely,
Every Academy Award winner that forgot to “Thank” their spouse after winning the award.

  38. People who do not want AD back in a Viking uniform.

    Green Bay Packers
    Detroit Lions
    Chicago Bears

  39. As s long time vikings fan, I’m at a crossroad. Not sure what the vikings should do with this situation. I do know this. He is still under contact for 3 years. AP does not control anything, so if you trade him, get something good and move on. Let him go to the worse AFC team. Zimmer is getting this thing going with or without AP!!!!!

  40. Meanwhile our big brothers to the east are racking up playoff wins and division titles while we’re trying desperately to sign their scraps!!

  41. AP had better start to realize the Vikes are paying him
a LOT more than they can cut and replace him for.
seems he is biting the hand that feeds him!
If the Vikings cut him he,ll be lucky to make 1/2 what he is due. Cowboys sure cant take the cap hit..
Remember HE caused his issues. I think the Vikings are being a lot nicer than they could.. Without him they could Draft an elite young RB and STILL have nearly 30 Million in cap room.
Trade him for a 2nd rounder and be done with the Premadonna!

  42. Stop Blaming the Vikings Organization for What YOU did to YOUR CHILD. face your demons as you did your ACL. This one YOU did. Nothing to do with anyone else. So you take some heat. RIGHTLY SO. Be a Man. Forget the Media Circus and the Oh I’ll go to another team and what I did to my child will disappear. Fight or Flight. Punks fly.

  44. Whether I like it or not! Yes, AP did a bad thing and he paid the price! I myself included, do not agree with the punishment that AP received! But with that said,,,, I do believe in “Due process!” as in the “Court Of Law,” as in “Law Of The Land” as in “The People Versus Adrain Peterson” and as in “The People found him guilty” He has paid his price and his debt to Society and is a free man! He has the right to make a living! Regardless how you, myself, or Goodell for that matter feel or disagree, with the way ” Due Process” works in the United States and the ” Opinion Of The Court” “For The People, By The People” This young Man has the right to earn a living! The amount of Money AP makes is totally and completely irrelevant! Like any other Job? Depending on what one does for a living, and how hard they work! Well always depend on ones income! So It doesn’t matter if AP where to make 20 Thousand a year or 20 Million a year! That has absolutely no baring on how he should be judged! The NFL are fools, and if I where Peterson!!! I would Sue the NFL for a minimum of 60 Million and another 10 Million for hardship and another 10 Million anguish!

  45. Look nobody roots for the packas more than me! I have to admit that being the playoff failures for the past decade looks bad for me and my fellow big wig stock holders! Sometimes I think we should be called the team the decade of deficate!

  46. DUe process? This is the NFL not the constitution. AP was PAID for 2014. If anything his body was given a reprieve. He should go unpaid in 2015. Child beater wouldn’t get a second chance if his talent had slipped in 2013. All of you chanting FREE AP are supporting a child beater. AP is a disgrace.

  47. No one is saying AP doesn’t deserve a right to make a living but he DOES NOT deserve the right to make a living in the NFL. He can go use his degree….oh wait he never got one. The system failed as he was guilty of beating a child and he got probation. Disgraceful. I support Goodell in this…no child beaters in the NFL. He has talent but if my team signs him I will surrender my seasons tickets.

  48. The only reason Peterson does not play for the Vikings this year is his salary. He will play for less money this year no matter where he plays.

  49. 27 playoff appearances for my Vikings equates to 27 seasons ending in a loss. This includes 1969 when a couple of my fellow fans somehow believe we were champions. Even I know that in the modern era you can’t claim a championship if you lose the Superbowl!!

Really? You love it? More like it irritates you or you wouldn’t be bringing it up. And yeah, he does care. Because if the NFL starts losing its fan base, he’ll be the fall guy. He’ll lose his job and possible have legal repercussions from several people. Also, publicly be hated. Sure, you’ll say the NFL is too big and people don’t have enough going on in their lives to stop watching. I say Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it didn’t fall in a day.

  51. @34defense2014: you should probably familiarize yourself with labor law before pontificating on legal strategies for AP. Unless it was your intent to suggest various and sundry lawsuits that would be deemed sanctionable for their lack of merit.

  52. Trolls calling out trolls. Ironic.

Anyway, nothing to see here. Standard press release my his “people”. Besides, you can’t believe a word out of anybody’s mouth this time of year.

  53. Welcome back, AP! We have missed you. I believe we are on the cusp of a great year and with your leadership and work ethic you can teach the young guys how precious their time in the NFL is. It can all be taken away from you in heartbeat. Players who get that message usually go on to great things.

  54. Noticeable in its absence was anyone associated with the Minnesota Vikings organization in his expression of gratitude.

He’s gonna be traded, if anyone will pony up a first round draft pick for him.

  55. Greg Jennings sister agrees with Adrian Petersons dad. It’s settled.

  56. numba1wisosprtsfan, you mean the Rodgers that just won the MVP on one leg and playing part time in games is declining? yea your a Packa fan, nice try
