Keeping secondary intact would cost the Pats a fortune

AP

With free agency starting next week, the Patriots are in an interesting position: They can keep the three best players in their secondary but spend a fortune, or they could take the frugal route and risk losing Darrelle Revis, Devin McCourty and Brandon Browner.

The good news for the Patriots is that they have the choice to keep Revis, McCourty and Browner, if they want to. Revis is under contract for 2015, and the Patriots can pick up his deal by paying him a $12 million roster bonus on March 9. Browner is under contract for $5.5 million in 2015, of which $2 million comes in a roster bonus next week. McCourty becomes a free agent on March 10, but the Patriots can keep him by using the franchise tag. McCourty has indicated that if the Patriots franchise him, he’ll sign the one-year, $9.6 million franchise tender.

The bad news for the Patriots is that picking up the second year on Revis’s contract would give him a $25 million cap hit for 2015. No other cornerback even has a cap hit of $15 million for 2015. Revis is great, but is he so great that the Patriots want to spend $10 million more on him than the Cardinals are spending on Patrick Peterson, and $13 million more than the Seahawks are spending on Richard Sherman or the Browns are spending on Joe Haden?

Throw in the $9.6 million for McCourty and the $5.5 million for Browner, and the Patriots would be spending more than $40 million on three players in their secondary.
Last year the Packers paid more for defensive backs than any other team, at $26.6 million for the 11 players in their secondary. Do the Patriots really want to blow up their cap to such an extent that they’re paying $14 million more than that just for the top three players in their secondary?

Maybe they do. But if they do, it’s a departure from the Patriots’ longtime practice of emphasizing depth and spreading the wealth around their roster, rather than spending a lot of money on a few key players. The Patriots have some big, and potentially expensive, decisions to make by next week.

  1. Oh dear Lord, please let the pats cut Browner to pay Revis. Then have Seattle resign Browner. Seattle is losing Maxwell and this would work great, and hinder the patriots chance of repeating

  2. Those Patriots won’t test the free market. Even Jump-ball_Joe ripped them up in the past few playoffs. We have to question their ability because the Offense stayed on the field the last 7 years longer than they should have given the deflated balls causing less fumbles. Sign Patriot Corners at your own risk.

  3. Both Revis and the Pats knew this contract would be renegotiated after the end of this year. I suspect the Pats will pay him somewhere around 15 mill/year to keep him with the team. McCourty, just like Revis, does not really want to go anywhere else, so they will work on him next and I see him with a long-term deal around 6-7 mill/year. They will all stay with the Pats, unless they get lucky and some draftee falls in their lap that should have been taken far earlier in the draft.

  4. They’re not going to pay Revis 20 million. Either he agrees to a reasonable extention or he’ll become a free agent. If the Patriots can sign Revis, then they can probably live with paying Browner and franchising McCourty. It will be an expensive secondary, but they do perform.

Patriots were 23rd in Time of Posession in 2014. But don’t let facts get in the way of your jealousy-fueled hatred.

  6. Revis is going to sign a record deal with a bottom feeder because he’s all about the benjamins and has zero passion about football. Nice fraudulent one year cheating “dynasty” that no one respects, Pats!

  7. LOL seeing the comment from the Ravens fan whining still after his HC was embarrassed by Bill Belichick and then Tom Brady for not understanding the rules of the game in a playoff game.

The Patriots will rework Revis’s contract and keep the secondary intact enroute to the back to back Super Bowl win and Ring # 5

  8. Tough spot but I would cut Browner, let McCourty walk and re negotiate Revis in the. 16 mil per range guaranteed. Certainly entertain signing Mcourty but not top safety money. We need to sign Vareen before McCourty.

  9. “Browner is under contract for $5.5 million in 2015, of which $2 million comes in a roster bonus next week. ”

McCourtey is an upcoming FA. We all know the Revis story. Why does Browner even come into this conversation? They got him relatively cheap last year. They not even going to entertain cutting him. Smarten up.

  10. I would like to see Revis resigned at a reasonable price, but just in case, didn’t Peanut Tillman say he was looking for a chance at a ring? Not a bad plan ‘B’.

  11. It will all work out. Not stressing. Bill will make it work. However it winds up you better be ready when you play the Pats cuz they are going back to the Superbowl next year

  12. When they signed browner and revis last year, I predicted their championship. They signed both of those guys thinking they would need them to beat denver. If they keep all three of these guys again, they will win another one. Next year they will play Green Bay in the superbowl, so yeah, they need corners.

    Thanks!

  14. Fans of the Ravens who are 3 and 9 against the Pats love to come up with nutty excuses for the their abysmal record. Look on the bright side you could be the Bills, Jets, Colts or Anyone in the NFC who are worse than you against New England.

  15. Revis is counting $5 million on the cap no matter if they keep him or cut him. You need to forget about that. It’s 1/2 of his signing bonus of 2014. They gave him $12m with only $7m counting against the $14 cap. If they pay him $20m, it would be 2/$32m and that’s the way to look at it. They will do 4/$56 to $60, pushing cap hit out. McCourty will get franchised if they can’t do 4/$32. Browner is cheap. Mayo and Wilfork will take cuts or go. This isn’t that complicated.

  16. The real question is does Revis want a shot at ring #2?

Based on his past behavior I think he will go for the money.

  17. Pats haters. Go read a book or exercise. Doesnt matter… They still have Brady…. After that the rest is gravy..as a steelers fan i will go to canton when he goes in

    ———————————–

He knew the rules. It’s why he ran out on the field to stop the game because the refs were not following the rules.

He even said so in the Super Bowl 13 hours of pre-game.

Why do you think they refs had to use special new signals for the Super Bowl?

  19. There’s more than meets the eye here. It’s not gonna end up being 40 mil for 3 players. The 20 mil option ain’t happening. I personally think Revis is gone, other teams will top the Pats best offer. But, if they sign him long term, his cap hit goes from 25 mil to about 15-16. They will tag McCourty in hopes of getting a long term deal. If so, his cap hit goes from 9.6 to about 7. If Arrington is worth 5+ mil, so is Browner. The rest of the 2ndary is cheap. Now, those 3 guys account for about 28 mil, instead of 40. That’s in line with the 2 best other teams in the league, Seattle and GB, who are about 25 mil and 26 mil, repectively, from previous deals. It’s a lot of cash spent, but the Pats are behind the minimum and need to catch up anyway.

  20. Here ya go…

    – Pats dump Revis
    – Pats sign or franchise McCourty
    – Pats resign Gostkowski
    – Renegotiate Mayo and Vince for more cap space
    – Trade up in the draft for either Waynes or Peters potentially bundling Jimmy Garoppolo to move up in the draft
    – Resign Vareen

    One for the thumb…!

  21. Revis, McCourty, Vareen, Gostkowksi all need to be re-signed. Re-do Wilfork, Mayo and Amendola. Release/trade Dennard, Hooman. Not sure about Ridley.

  22. rodneyharrisonstruckstick said:

“One for the thumb! you hate us cus you aint us!”

Really? What is this “us” stuff. You re just a fan of the Patriots, it isn’t as though you got off your couch and played for the team.

Anyway can be a fan, it isn’t really that hard. Talking smack is kind of pointless, though I suspect it is easier than going out and shoveling the snow.

  23. Not a Pats fan but would like to see that D backfield come back next year.

I hear people saying re-sign Gostkowski yeah sure if the money’s there but if not its not he’s a kicker.

    McCourty will be expensive

  24. I’d let Revis go as great as he’s been he isn’t worth the price tag. Devin McCourty is much more important to the defense than he’s given credit for and Browner provided a physical presence to the defense and he shut down Calvin Johnson which is no small feat. Let Revis go, restructure some contracts, and then build through the draft while picking up occasional free agents who won’t value themselves too much.

  25. You just won a Super Bowl, these are (arguably, or in revis’ case, definitely) the 3 top FAs at their positions anyway (so it’s not like you can upgrade if they walk), if you have the cap room to do it, why wouldn’t you bring the band back? Especially since they’d all be on a one year deal? If it works, great, another title for all. If not, then you start over next offseason, no harm no foul. And this is from a Giants fan that loathes NE.

  26. pats fan here…i like how we can’t keep these guys yet denver gave talib 60 million, chris harris like 40m, and tj ward got 25m…..makes no sense. and they pay manning 20m a year. am i missing something.

    #THEYHATEUSCAUSETHEYAINTUS

  27. The Pats have a better idea about what they’re going to do with all those contracts than anyone else, so I wouldn’t fret about it.

They’re well aware of the contract situations and how it will affect the cap, so its not like they’re suddenly sitting there scratching their heads what on earth their next move is.

I’m not sweating this at all, but its fun to see people who have no idea making lots of different hypotheses about the situation.

  28. No need to worry. They can replace them all. They will sign someone who is over priced and cut by another team and play for a fraction of the price.

The Pats are the greatest team ever … just ask Goddell and the refs.

  29. Seahawks fan here. So funny to see all the jealous
haters just like on the Hawks. I think Revis does hit FA he loves NY
But if they can get a deal done good for them.
Much respect to the pats. We will meet again.

  30. “McCourtey is an upcoming FA. We all know the Revis story. Why does Browner even come into this conversation? They got him relatively cheap last year. They not even going to entertain cutting him. Smarten up”

The article is about how much the secondary will cost the Pats. If you do not include Browner in the calculation then the calculation would be incomplete.

  31. As much as I like Revis I wouldn’t break the bank on him, spending all that money doesn’t guarantee another Super Bowl Ring. I wouldn’t pay more than 14m

I disagree with your logic. The article started off by saying they could lost Revis, McCourty and Browner. Browser is relatively cheap (and under contract) and is in no way at risk of being cut. He does not belong in this discussion.

  34. People will say this is crazy but Belichick will weigh the certainty of bringing all three back for one year versus the risks of losing Revis and/or tying the team to long-term contracts.

Having Revis and McCourty in another contract year is some great motivation. Belichick is the only guy with the balls to do it so the decision is not the slam dunk everyone thinks it is.

Gee all this time the point was so Pats fans could show their arrogance and stupidity….oh we’ll continue with more of the same.

  36. Do you know what’s great? All the haters used to say its been 10 years since the Patriots have won a Super Bowl.

Now all they can do is say “you cheat”, the universal refrain of a loser.

  37. The Krafts have made numerous comments about keeping Revis. The Brady window is slowly closing and it’s pretty obvious they want to take advantage of having one of the best quarterbacks of all time. They’re all talking about going on a run!

Buffalo is one quarterback away from being a real threat… Denver, Green Bay and the Seahawks will not, well should not, get any weaker. The time is now… they have to keep that secondary in tact.

  38. To all the people saying let Revis go…..are you on drugs? How many Super Bowls have the Patriots won without a shutdown corner? The Pats finally get one, win the Super Bowl, and now you think he should go? Please….Revis and Brady are the two most important players on the team…..Revis isn’t going anywhere.

  39. The point of this site IS discussion and discourse. Trolling by childish fans of teams the Pats have destroyed during the Dynasty are just an unfortunate side effect.

  40. Aren’t the Patriots still $5mm OVER the cap? How are they going to clear at least $25mm just so they can sign 2 DBs to extensions? That also leaves Vereen and Gostkowski as free agents. If New England isn’t careful, they’re going to end up being the next Saints in terms of cap situation.

    Fixed it for you

  42. PS
To the posters claiming that allowing Revis to go would mean disaster, look at the scores of the two Super Bowls they lost. It wasn’t a shot-out. They lost because they couldn’t protect Brady and they couldn’t get their running game on track.

  43. “Last year the Packers paid more for defensive backs than any other team, at $26.6 million for the 11 players in their secondary.”

Once again Belichick is ahead of the game. It’s a passing league so he loaded up on quality DB’s and won the Superbowl

  44. The Pats are closer to 8 mil over. That incudes 25 mil for Revis, but nothing for McCourty. If they tag him, they’ll be about 17 over, if I have it right. They have to be in compliance by 3/10. They have to tag McCourty by tomorrow. It’s gonna be an interesting week. They must do something with, or cut Mayo(10 mil), Wilfork(9 mil) and Amendola(almost 6) or decline Revis’ option and/or give him a new deal.

  45. Mayo has an injury guarantee so they are not really free to cut him, not they want to either.

  46. Some thought and still think, Ty Law and Lawyer Milloy were irreplaceable in the secondary. The year after cutting Milloy we won our first Superbowl, without either of them. I am not stressing it.

  47. I’m going to say what everyone is thinking:

We all saw Brady play last September and it’s clear he’s old and washed up. The only reason he’s good is because he plays with under inflated balls.

Trade him now while his value is high and use the savings on Revis.

  48. The Pats are closer to 8 mil over. That incudes 25 mil for Revis, but nothing for McCourty. If they tag him, they’ll be about 17 over, if I have it right. They have to be in compliance by 3/10. The musing of a fan in fear….can’t be happening to a more deserving fan base. Without the secondary and Wilfork I smell burnt toast.

  49. Tee hee. Look at all the inferior fans of inferior teams talking about the World Champion Patriots.

So adorable! It’s like a bunch of little chihuahuas yipping among themselves about what the muscular Rottweiler should do next! 🙂

  50. 28-24. 🙂

You Patriot haters didn’t really think the gloating and rubbing it in was over did you? 🙂

  51. I would rather see the Patriots let Revis walk and use the money where it is needed most – D-Line.

Pats need to replace Wilfork and need a powerful rusher to pressure the QB..

  52. Thanks tiger, I did forget about the injury guarantee for Mayo. However, they still save almost 4 mil on the cap if they cut him with a post 6/1 designation. They would have 6 mil in dead money(the steelers annual trick, like 9 mil for LWoodley), but something has to give. Mayo has barely played in 2 yrs, The Pats have only 2 LBs on the field most of the time, at this point, with the sub D’s. I’d rather see Collins and Hightower, with Casillas, mabe Ayers and whoever/draft pk backing up. Can’t keep everybody.

Without the 2ndary and Wilfork, they’d almost be as bad as the steelers, except with beter coaching….Naaaaahhhh.

  53. “Revis, McCourty, Vareen, Gostkowksi all need to be re-signed. Re-do Wilfork, Mayo and Amendola. Release/trade Dennard, Hooman. Not sure about Ridley.”

I’m a Pat’s fan and posts like this one embarrass me.

  54. “I’m a Pat’s fan and posts like this one embarrass me.”

Unless it was tongue in cheek. If it was, then its brilliant.

  55. New England Patriots are the greatest franchise in salary cap era 4 titles in 15 years. Tom Brady is the GOAT and Bill will go down as top three head coach of all time. If Revis cares about winning he stays.

  56. Steelers playoff wins since their team doctor was indicted with 181 counts of intent to distribute illegal steroids and HGH:

  57. Revis is gone. There will be a bunch of Championship teams like the Jets that are going to throw outrageous money at him. No problem, that’s what has kept them Number 1. It sucks BUT it opens it up for people I thought were gone.

McCourty is staying-taggedto start at least. Now I feel better about Gostkowski, even with Atlanta giving their kicker $8 mil+, making G’s agent think about new cars and homes. If Revis were staying, Vereen is definitely gone and maybe Connoly. McCourty, Vereen, Chung isn’t going to happen. I trust Bill.

  58. Without the 2ndary and Wilfork, they’d almost be as bad as the steelers, except with beter coaching….Naaaaahhhh.

Use some deodorant Ted your nervous sweat is getting to be a bit much. Sad to see the resident genius in such a dither over the trials and tribulations of his main reason for existence. Oh Ted better has 2 t’s.

  59. As much as I’d like to see New England somehow retain Revis.. I think it could damage the financial side of things.

Personally, I think that Byron Maxwell would be a nice replacement. Remember, Sherman only plays one side of the field, so Maxwell has had alot of one-on-one work versus opposing teams number ones. Also, he is twenty-seven so doing a five year deal isn’t a significant issue. Flowers is out there but he is mainly a zone guy and Cromartie is thirty-one and likely going to be unrealistic with his number.

  60. Really MDS.. Do they will extend Revis or release him.. they have been 12-4 since 2010 with far lesser corners and look at their upcoming schedule.. NFC East and AFC South.. LOL

  62. Shaun128- another classy Seattle fan. I’ve met so many now.

The Pats did Revis perfectly- gave him solid $$ in ’14 with a monster 2nd year attached pretty much at their option. Everyone, including Revis, knew he wouldn’t see that money but would be sitting down to look at a 3 year extension which spreads the cap hit.

It’s up to Revis- 3 big money years on a team which works together toward the common goal to close out the career or go look for more and risk another Greg Schiano fiasco and 3 years of misery.

The Pats will fit him to their financial plan, he’ll have to decide whether or not to go with it.

  63. Don’t know about the other guys mentioned, but Revis is a gazillion light years better than Peterson who only makes his big plays and INTs against back-up QBs and middle to bad starters. If you check his history, Peterson has zero plays against Brady, Wilson, Mannings, Rodgers, Brees, Big Ben, Kaepernick, Ryan or any of the upper rated QBs.

Peterson can only make plays against the weak sister QBs of the NFL. That is why he is NOT an elite DB and the Cards vastly overpaid for him.

  64. Fans of the defending Super Bowl Champions, The GOAT QB, the GOAT coach and the greatest dynasty of the 21rst century don’t sweat. Teams the can only hope to win 10 gms and squeeze into the playoffs need to sweat. Looking forward to opening day, sweat that one out.

Keep jumping on the typos. You really got me there.

  65. Revis, McCourty, Vareen, Gostkowksi all need to be re-signed. Re-do Wilfork, Mayo and Amendola. Release/trade Dennard, Hooman. Not sure about Ridley.

    ————
Vereen needs to be the odd man out. He’s a nice player but replaceable, and this past season was the only one where he stayed on the field and wasn’t hurt.

  66. They need to fork over the lettuce to Mayo, so he can bring home the bacon. He doesn’t require that much bread.

  67. Keep jumping on the typos. You really got me there.

Enough that you felt the need to respond….right? Relax Ted, you are a jerk but a flawed love able jerk who takes everything way to seriously.

  68. Get a grip pats fans. Browner was terrible and you know it! He got beat so much last season and had so many penalties on him for holding. The guy is definitely not a to FA in his position if he gets cut. Kareem Jackson, Maxwell, Cromartie, and Flowers are levels ahead of Brandon Browner.

  69. Wait a minute! I thought you Pats Fans brag about building a Team through the Draft? Seems to be otherwise. Also, knock it off with Jimmy Garapollo trade value, he played FCS and has never been challenged in the NFL yet. He is worth nothing at this point! In fact, I have the utmost respect for Brady, but without him your Team is mediocre at best.

  70. I have the utmost respect for Brady, but without him your Team is mediocre at best

    2008 Matt Cassel 11-5

You trolls aren’t even challenging any more.

    Need to step it up.

  71. They will make every effort to sign Revis…but in the end the Pats are very disciplined and structured with the way they spend. They have him under contract for next year so I’m thinking they’ll try to resign him to a longer more cap friendly deal. The problem with Revis (or at least historically has shown) is he’s probably the most $$$ driven player in the league. His contract history while at the Jets is all anyone needs to understand to know what Mr. Revis is all about. It all depends on if Revis still uses $$$ to massage his ego or if he now just wants to win.

  72. The NFL likes to have a marquee team to visit the SBowl Champs in the Thursday nite opener. That eliminates the Dolphins. What’s the name of the trophy the Dolphins won for that ‘big’ opening day win last year?

  73. Congratulations to the Miami Dolphins for their week 1 championship. How was the parade? Was it as awesome as our Super Bowl parade? 🙂

  74. More dribble from the haters.. Can’t wwin so call your daddy a cheater..pathetic

Just know that Revis will probably be gone and Browner was not all that great.. We found a pretty solid corner in Malcom Butler..he wasn’t just that one play, he was really good all year..

.get another corner, keep the Offense intact. keep Gostoswski..keep McCourty and Vareen.
Team needs one more pass rusher to make up for the loss of Revis.

  75. I see them working out a deal in the 14-15 mil range for Revis…..franchise tag on Mc ourty…..Vereen stays as does Conelley…..Browner and Ridley walk….Pats find a young physical corner in the draft…one who is quick enough NOT to have to grab and clutch like 39

  76. What! Browner is cheap, and he showed us why we need a tall dude in that position, even if he is a penalty hog. I’m sure Bill will set him straight next year.
Revis needs to accept real money, not pie in the sky money, and he will stay. Those two, together, match up against anybody. One for the tall ones, and the other for the speedsters.
    McCourty will be franchised.
Keep the total near 26-28, and all will be good.

  77. Gotta love the wishful thinking from all these haters. I hear Jets fans saying Revis WILL NOT play for less than $20 mill. It’s laughable. I got news for you idiots, Revis, D Mac AND Browner are all coming back and it’s not gonna cost $40 million.
Let the drive for five begin!!!

  78. I wonder what cheating plan belicheat and Brady are going to come up with this year. First its spygate, then deflategate, stay tune for the next one. Belicheats probably already devising a plan.

  79. I believe they will get a long term contract done for Revis and tag McCourty at least for this year. Then its up to Browner he can finish his contract for 2015 and see what the Pats will offer him for the following year. Definitely want to see all of them back.

  80. Every team has to make tough choices this time of year. Revis is too costly IMO.

  81. First as you noted above the highest paid CB and if its that big of a deal to Revis to be the highest piad CB. They can still make him the highest paid CB at 14.1 mil. The could do a deal that even was 16 mil and bot h have a cap hit of 7 mil in 2015. As for McCourty as he has said as long as its fair he stays in NE. They can sign him to an average per year of 8.5 mil making him the 3rd highest paid saftey in the league and only have a cap hit of 4 mil or 4.2. So I highley doubt he doesn’t get a long term deal. All that tag does is give them time and I don’t think they will need time all he wants is a fair deal and being the 3rd highest paid is fair IMO. And I’m sure he knows its not worth it to the team just to throw Byrd and Chanceler money around. All these media guys just need something to talk about.

  82. People saying let Revis go or even McCourty! Note to self… 01″ Super Bowl Lawyer Milloy and Ty Law,.. 03″ and 04″ Super Bowl wins Rodney Harrison and Ty Law/Asante Samuel, 14″ Super Bowl win Revis, and McCourty! See a pattern here? If not there’s no hope for you!

  83. Let Revis go. If he can do all the jobs that other important players do, then give him the money. The Pats is all about the team. There was a fan that holds Butler Island sign. We all saw how he played even before the interception. I’d much rather keep most of the cog. Revis is really good but he is not a Demi-God that we like to think. He allowed a crucial touchdown during the SB. He was outplayed. Brady plays for a relative pittance and I don’t think Revis is more valuable than Brady. BB will try to keep him but I don’t see him kissing Revis shoes to keep him. Still, it’s understandable if Revis go for the money. He is after all a mercenary. Good for him. Live and let live.

  84. Any clown suggesting the Patriots shouldn’t give Revis whatever he wants to stay here through the end of Brady’s career is certified insane. Just rewind back to the Pats circa 2009-2013 for what you’ll get in that scenario. An offensive team with a defense that can’t play man-to-man and can’t come up with the big stop when they need it most. Um…no thanks. Signed, Pats fans with brains.

  85. IT HAS NOW BEEN ONE MONTH SINCE PATRIOT HATERS HAD THEIR BALLS DEFLATED HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  86. Why do reporters talk about total “cap hit” as though its relevant to whether or not a player will be cut?

(Most) teams are rational actors and understand “dead money.”

  87. It won’t matter if the Patriots sign Revis and McCourty, sign only one of them or bring in two new guys – they’ll still win at least 12 games and crush the hapless Steelers and Colts along the way.

  88. McCorty isn’t going anywhere. He is too good and too young. Browner is staying because he is locked in fairly cheap. As for Revis, everyone needs to understand that the Patriots paid him $17 for playing in 2014. 5M of that is split out to 2015. The problem isn’t all about the price he will need to be paid in order to stay (about $15m/year), Wilfork, Mayo, Amendola will be the sacrificial lambs that will be cut or need to restructure in order to keep Revis. The problem is the length of his contract and his age. There is zero value in signing him beyond 3 years, he will begin to lose a step and won’t be worth the money. Also, there is the Brady factor. Revis staying in New England means that he is going to forgo big money elsewhere because he wants to win. Brady also has 3 years left in his contract and as good as he is, as much as he is doing everything to be able to play beyond the age of 40, we know that likely isn’t going to happen. Being the best corner and the only one of his caliber on the market when all the other top corners (Talib, Pat. P, Sherman, Chris Harris Jr, Haden) are locked into new long terms deals, means that Revis can likely again be the highest paid defensive player in the league. Expect Revis to walk. This is not entirely because of the dollars per year, it is because of contract length; Patriots will offer 2, maybe 3. Revis will want 5. If Patriots agree, it will be front loaded and no guaranteed money after the 3rd year. And if he does stay, say bye to Wilfork, Dennard, Arrington. Maybe bye to Mayo too if he doesn’t restructure. Amendola will need to restructure as he is still too much of a cap hit to cut outright; that he hasn’t been cut already is a testament to his agent’s negotiation powers. All players should sign with Amendola’s agent.

For all the Patriot haters out there, repeating ain’t going to be easy for New England.
