Darnell Dockett scheduled to meet with the 49ers tonight

AP

The Cardinals left the door open for defensive tackle Darnell Dockett to return when they cut him last week.

And he’s going to test their will to do so quickly.

Via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Dockett is scheduled to meet with the 49ers tonight.

The 33-year-old Dockett missed all of last season with a torn ACL, which gave the Cardinals pause about paying him $6.8 million.

The 49ers aren’t sure if they’ll have veteran Justin Smith back next season, as they still want to sit down with him and discuss their plans.

But whether Dockett is a replacement or a complement, he’d represent a swing in the NFC West defensive arms race, assuming he’s recovered from the knee injury and can get back to his old form.

  1. Fah.
    Let him sign.
    Offer a minimum deal.
Raiders would be a better stop for him.
    Intelligence-challenged player for sure.
    Oakland should call.

    Bay Area mentality.
    Iffy prospect at best.
Tell his agent to call around.
    Every team knows about him.
    Stupid player.

    After the draft,
    Send him a pink slip.
    Stick to the draft.
    !

  2. Thought he was a Clown with the Cardinals..

Will love him with my Niners..

Funny how things work out in sports. Sign him up!

  3. Darnell Dockett was the one who said in 2011 that his divisional rival Seahawks were “soft as cotton.” Then he and his team got to watch behinds get beat down in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Read just the first letter of every line in the second post of this thread. Darnell is on the way out, move along folks, nothing to see here.

  4. If he leaves – and I hope he returns – please don’t go to a rival. I know it is a business, but Dockett would look very bad in a 49’ers uniform….

You’re good bro but the “man” will catch on soon. 🙂

  6. @frotton2 love the easter egg!

Now to Dockett, this is a person that said he hates the 49ers and would never consider going to them and even said that he considers every game against them his birthday. Now look what comes crawling in…lol

As for frotton2 comments about how the Seahawks beat down the Cards, I do remember they were the team that ended the home winning streak in 2013.

  7. Oh yeah, this is reminiscient of the Kurt Warner sighting in SF before he signed back with the Cards. There is no way Dockett plays for the 49ers but it is nice to see him crawling for scraps, couldn’t happen to a better individual.

  8. If he goes to the hapless Santa Clara 49ers, then he’s really only in it for the money.

  9. Of course he would like Santa Clara. Neighboring San Jose has the best strip club’s on the west coast! Plenty of Wingstop’s too

  10. He’s borrowing a page from Kurt Warner’s book going to the rival 9rs. He’s not going there…
1- DD’s good, but he ain’t no Warner
2- Cards can live W/O him, it’s been proven already
3- they’re not going to sign him multi year unless it means getting him out of AZ and then dumping him
