Report: Brian Hoyer plans to sign with Texans on Tuesday

AP

It looks like Brian Hoyer is headed to Houston.

According to multiple reports, Hoyer plans to sign a three-year deal with the Texans when free agency officially gets rolling on Tuesday afternoon. Assuming nothing happens to put a snag in the works, that will give the team one part of the quarterback competition they’re expecting to run this offseason.

The other piece or pieces remain unclear. Tom Savage and Ryan Fitzpatrick are currently under contract, but John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the team would like to bring Ryan Mallett back as well for what would be a battle of former Tom Brady backups.

The Jets were also pursuing Hoyer over the weekend and could put themselves in the market for Mallett. New General Manager Mike Maccagnan worked for Houston when they acquired Mallett last year and that also gives him experience working with Fitzpatrick, who played for Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey in Buffalo and could become available whenever other Texans’ moves become official.

  1. Bummer, I wanted him to go to MN to backup Teddy. Then again, he gets a shot at starting from the beginning of the season in Texas.

  2. Okay…why is it okay for them to pretty much have a deal done during the tampering period, and why aren’t you calling them out on it the way you called out the Eagles for having a deal w/ Maxwell? What’s the difference?

———- Because the tampering rule is a sham. There is ample evidence the Jets owner tampered publicly with Revis yet nothing has been done about that as of yet. Just like they did for years with the steroid issue the league talks big but looks the other way.

  4. Thanks god I don’t have to watch hoyer play crappy quarterbacking on Sunday’s.

According to a source close to the situation, Hoyer to the Texans is a 100% certainty. Thumbs me down today, praise me the day it happens. Because it will.

    Give credit where credit’s due.

  6. What a sad horrible day in Houston Texans history. They cut Andre Johnson and gain Brian Hoyer. Thanks Bill O Brian, lots to look forward to in 2015
