For the first three years of his NFL career, Bengals guard Clint Boling practiced against defensive players coached by then-defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
Zimmer made the move to Vikings head coach in 2014 while Boling remained in Cincinnati, but there could be a reunion after free agency opens on Tuesday. Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reports that the Vikings are “making a push” to sign Boling, who has started the last 44 regular season games he’s played for the Bengals.
According to Boling’s trainer, there’s mutual interest.
“He has a lot of interest in the Vikings,” Ryan Goldin, who trains Boling in Atlanta during the offseason, said. “I know he likes the Vikings organization. It’s going to be an interesting 24 hours.”
The Vikings released Charlie Johnson and have Brandon Fusco returning from a torn pectoral at guard. Joe Berger and Vlad Ducasse are set to become free agents.
Goldin said the Falcons and Jets have also been in contact with Boling and that the Bengals have also expressed interest in bringing him back. As for the trainer’s prediction of where Boling will lead, he thinks his client will take “the best up-front money like everybody else does.”
