Hoyer to Houston not done yet

On both Monday and Tuesday, reports have emerged that quarterback Brian Hoyer will sign with the Texans.  It’s not done yet — and not just because it can’t be done until after 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Agent Joe Linta tells PFT that Hoyer wants to gather more information before making a final decision.  Although the three-day negotiating window prohibits teams from arranging visits with players until the official start of free agency, Hoyer intends at the appropriate time to arrange a visit to Houston.

He wants to meet with the coaches and visit the area.  If all goes well, an effort will be made to move forward.

Making the decision even more important to Hoyer is the fact that he has a wife and two young children.  He wants to get information about local schools and potential residential options before making any final decisions.

Hoyer’s approach echoes concerns raised last week by the man who’ll replaced him in Cleveland.  Quarterback Josh McCown believes that players should have a chance to visit potential teams without the “sign here now or else” urgency that often accompanies free agency.

Hoyer also has been talking, through Linta, to the Jets.

  1. I wonder if they are working out the final kinks on the deal such as whether or not Hoyer can continue to eat egg salad sandwiches in the locker room because he stinks.

  2. Its just like in Draft Day, The veteran QB waiting with the wife and small children…Costner drafts defense…Denis Leary is happy…

  3. Hoyer to Houston Day Parade….. Let me know when it actually happens so I can not get excited about a back up QB coming to my town to compete with another backup QB.

  4. Hoyer probably also knows that no matter how average he has been so far, he would instantly be the best QB in Texans history as soon as he signs. The Jets talk is a smokescreen. If he really wants good schools for his kids, New York is the last place he would want to be.

  5. Because they’re having second thoughts about Jake Locker? (I would. And I’m a Titans fan.) #UntappedUpSide

For the love of God…. Brian Hoyer will be a Texan. Jets are moving on… and targeting Ryan Fitzpatrick, who will become available

  7. Everyone is the edge of their seat over this story. The drama, the franchise changing impact this could have. It’s exhilarating.

I can’t for the life of me picturing Cleveland as successful next year with McClown, Johnny Rehab, and no Josh Gordon. They will be a four win team at best.
    ===============================

Then trade down to 22 in the first round and select a QB… what could go wrong?

  9. Now if the Dolphins could just sign Tebow, Jets- Hoyer and Bills- Cassel, then you would have four Patriots QBs starting in the AFC east.

It will be the Pats starting defense against the Pats practice squad Offense for six games a year … We’ll never hear the end about how easy their division is, even when their record is the same outside their division as within.

    Hilarious.

  10. The day that there’s a bidding war for Brian Hoyer is the day you really have to ask yourself about the future of the league.

  11. As a Browns fan, he has too much character and class for the current front office of the Browns.
