Report: Buccaneers to host Cowboys LB Bruce Carter

AP

A Cowboys starting linebacker is set to meet with Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers will host Bruce Carter on a free agent visit, per Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports. Carter is PFT’s 61st-ranked free agent.

Carter, 27, notched 68 tackles and intercepted five passes in 2014. Like the Cowboys, the Buccaneers employ a 4-3 defense, and Carter likely has a good deal of familiarity with Tampa Bay’s defensive concepts. The Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, Rod Marinelli, has worked with Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith in the past.

Carter played outside linebacker in Dallas and would figure to play a similar role in Tampa Bay. A Carter-Lavonte David pairing at outside linebacker would be a strong duo for Smith’s defnese.

  1. They would probably see if they could move him to mike linebacker. David plays on the weak side, strong side is less of a need as they play more nickel than anything.

With Mason Foster leaving, it’s in the middle where they have the need

  2. He would definitely replace Mason Foster at MLB…and indeed, would be a tough duo with Lavonte David. Of course, who gets to wear #54, as the both are #54. Hopefully that the only problem left by this time tomorrow.
