Revis gets $39 million fully guaranteed

Getty Images

Cornerback Darrelle Revis is going back to New York.  And he’s getting paid nearly enough to buy a large apartment there.

PFT has confirmed that Revis will receive $39 million fully guaranteed on a five-year, $70 million contract.

He’ll earn a base salary of $16 million in 2015, $17 million in 2016, $15 million in 2017, $11 million in 2018, and $11 million in 2019.  All of those numbers are base salaries with the exception of 2017, which is split between a $2 million roster bonus due on the first day of the league year and a $13 million salary.

The first two years are fully guaranteed at signing, along with $6 million in 2017.  It means that owner Woody Johnson will have to set aside $23 million in escrow to fund the guarantees beyond 2015.

It’s unclear how close the Patriots came to the offer made by the Jets.  There’s talk that the Patriots actually dropped out of the bidding on Monday, unbeknownst to the Jets.

  1. Hey Mr. Kraft. What’s your excuse for not paying that? Looks lower than what we all expected it to be so what’s the deal?

  2. I think Revis is the best CB to ever play the game and I would have loved him on the Bills… but 5 years at that money? He’ll be 30 before this season starts.

  3. Feels like last year when we lost Talib. But this time we have no Revis to replace him. We don’t have browner either, I know games aren’t won in March but this is worrying

  4. I guess the Jets Fans wont be trolling the Dolphins anymore about “overpaying” for a stud player. For the record, their is no such thing if you understand basic economics. The Bills, Jets and Dolphins just got a lot better.

  5. Over the last 5 years, this cat has made what?? over 100 mil???

What a management team he has…………….Jeeezzz!!!!

    Revis is redefining “free agency”.

  6. But nobody here has taken into effect that the cap continues to go up and it won’t be as big of a hit as people think. Besides he can always move to safety after his corner days are over

  7. Jets want a do-over after PFT advises the Patriots were not in the running since Monday……

  8. Revis will be 30 this year. This contract is embarrassing. Fire the owner now.

  9. Revis may be the smartest player ever, who else has constantly held out for more money ( and got it ) then gone from team to team to team just rapeing them for cash?

  10. Interested to how he is looked at when it’s all said and done. Great player but without playing for one fan base for a large period of time (can’t imagine Jets being his final destination) he won’t have a fan base to pump up his legend after retirement.

Revis said earlier this year that he feels he has matured and he’s not as driven by money as he used to be, does not feel the need to be the highest paid at his position as long as he’s paid very well.
He’s gotten a taste of being a champion now, and I think he’ll be back on the Pats. Doesn’t need the extra millions but wants the championship. Revis will be a Patriot for at least another 2 years.

this was the plan all along.
the $20mil was to satisfy both parties…Revis so the Pat’s couldn’t franchise him, the Pat’s so they have an exclusive negotiating window…he will be signed and so will McCourty….Repeat here we come!

  13. The Pats should have paid him the 20 million.

Thanks for a great year DR. Hope things don’t go quite as well for you next season. But with that pile of fat cash you are sitting on, I don’t think you really care.

I am incredibly bitter, as you can tell, with the Pats at this point.

Again this is why Bill is playing chess while the rest of the league plays checkers. The elite shut down corners…Petersen, Sherman, Haden signed long term last year and set the market for a contract for Revis who is oldest of the bunch at 30Yrs old. Belichek used this year to make sure Revis was 1. completely healed from torn acl and 2.would fit in to the team concept. Revis will re-sign for 3-4 years for less money in order to play meaningful games past October and contend for Super Bowls. Thanks to Brady and his unselfish contract Revis, McCourty and Gostowski will re-sign, Wilfork will take reduced contract to play 1 more year and Mayo will follow in Brady’s lead and re-do his contract. Amendola will take a cut or be cut and his cap dollars will go to Vereen. I think that Vereen is more valuable than Amendola who up until the playoffs this year has been disappointing. The draft will be OL,DL and LB focused.

  15. With the guarantees in this deal plus whatever he’s earned before this, he’ll earn more than $120 million in his career. Great corner, even better businessman.

Yeah, if your definition of better is New England losing a player like Revis….. New England still runs you until we see otherwise, but hey, hope springs eternal….

  17. I think it is pretty funny to see how reactive Patriots fans have been to this move – some of the fans are talking like Revis personally betrayed them.

Anyway, I for one am not surprised by this. Let’s be honest, if any one of us, myself included, were to be in Darrelle Revis’ exact situation, pretty much every single one of us would take the money. Anyone can say they wouldn’t, but when someone is faced with that much money being brought into conscious attention, their attitude changes relatively fast.

Revis is being a smart business professional. We all know that the NFL makes insane profit off of the outside interest of the viewers of this sport – and these players are the main reason why. Why should Revis not capitalize on his maximum benefit?

  18. I don’t blame him, really. He has a ring. Experienced the super bowl. His last big contract. Thanks for the 4th banner Darrelle. It was a great year.

  19. It’s a lot lower than I expected, but if he’s still performing as a top 5 cb in the latter part of that contract, we should all expect another hold out.

  20. The difference between the Patriots and the Jets is that the Patriots don’t mortgage their team for one player.

The Jets have just guaranteed mediocrity for another 3-5 years.

Good luck to Revis. When he retires he’ll have more money than he, his wife, or his kids will ever spend.

  21. And after those first two fully guaranteed years are up, and Revis has been passed in salary by about 5 other CBs, he will be holding out.

  22. He should get a lot of money. The offense will be going 3 and out 9 times a game so he will be on the field all day long. Bad teams spending their whole cap on one player is pathetic.

  23. Right I am a fan of the Patriots but the guys that work for them aren’t always, it’s a job.
So thanks Revis for helping with number 4. He has to feel like it’s a win win.
And he gets to retire a jet with a ring…not many of them around.;)
In Bill we will still Trust!

Revis the steelers wanted u and if u wanted another ring u should have came to black and gold ur loss

    ______________
    Pro tip:

    Steelers wear black and yellow

    Saints wear black and gold

  25. I wanted him back with the pats but not at that money.

We already knew what was most important to revis I was hoping he had changed.

Nice pr win for jets but he is not going to win you games

  26. Its actually a 3 yr, 40 million deal. If he is anywhere close to the same player, there is NO way he’s taking 11 mil last two years. I guess he thinks he deserves $16 mil every year. As much as it pains me to see him go, there is no way one corner deserves that kind of money. Will certainly take away from other positions. Only a QB commands that money – I’m happy the Patriots did not pay him that much.

  27. As upset as I am about the Patriots losing Revis, lets be honest. The AFC LEAST has spent 15 years making moves specifically to go up against the Pats and haven’t succeeded yet. What makes the Bills, Dolphins and Jets think that this year will be any different?

Chase away boys. There is only one legitimate QB in the AFC East and he resides in Foxboro…

  28. The Patriots couldn’t exactly afford to match this if they wanted to get talent in other positions. Revis was looking for his last payday and go back to the team he started with. Thanks for #4 Revis.

  29. This changes everything. We better get a pass rush real quick. Also Jet D line will be fierce with 2 good cb’s. Everybody in division got better and we’re going the other direction.

  30. The league will not award the Patriots the Jets first round draft choice. The penalty will be that they will have to swap first round draft choices. The Patriots will pick Trae Waynes at number 6 to replace Revis while saving well over 10 million dollars a year.

  31. The jets have tons of cap space and they just filled their number one need. They are basically banking on him being a top corner for the next 2 years, the rest of the money (with the exception of $6m) is not guaranteed. How is this not a good deal for the Jets?

  32. Revis is the anti Tom Brady. All he cares about is the money. He could care less about winning championships, just fattening his pocketbook. He just destroyed his legacy, but hey, he’ll be able to afford a pad in Manhatten.

  33. revis goes back to the jets and humiliates geno smith with multiple int’s daily in practice . he’ll opt out like a mercenary , book it.

  34. Thanks for helping the Patriots win another Championship, good luck with the rest of your career
P.S. you will always be head & shoulders better than Richard Sherman ever thought about being

  35. Brady only makes 9 million a year. It would be difficult to pay Revis 150% of what Brady earns.
    .

  36. “LOL, he should just retire.”

    Do you even watch football?

“Revis is the anti Tom Brady. All he cares about is the money. He could care less about winning championships, just fattening his pocketbook. He just destroyed his legacy, but hey, he’ll be able to afford a pad in Manhatten.”

Whaa whaa whaa. And it’s spelled “Manhattan.”

  37. It’s amazing how many New England fans are calling Revis a mercenary or complaining about him getting paid more.

You knew who he was when you signed him last year.
He is who he’s always been- the most cut-throat and savvy negotiator in the league. You’ve got to respect the man for that at least. If you wanted to keep him- then pay him or don’t cut him.

As a Cardinals fan I am glad Todd Bowles got him. He will use him in creative ways that no other coach has used him before.

  38. Jets will be watching the Pats in the playoffs for a longggg time to come. Won’t even make them playing Madden

  39. People keep talking about how a top tier QB cripples you on the salary cap, But CBs are getting to be just as bad, not to mention Suh’s new deal or Watt’s.

  40. Trae Waynes with the pick the Patriots get from the Jets for clear and present tampering.

  41. So in what year of the contract does he start faking injuries and telling the coaches and owner where to stick it?

  42. Letting Browner go makes more sense now. If the Patriots knew they were going to lose Revis, then Browner is a liability. He can’t cover one on one regularly, he needs a top corner on the other side. So the Pats now have a heavy workload this offseason. First step may be to trade for Keenan Lewis, who wants out of New Orleans.

  43. Congrats Jets fans he’ll be missed in New England. Really thought he would be back.

Pats got the ring last year in part because of what Revis brought to the team, so Pats fans have nothing to complain about. Grateful for the job he did here !

  44. I don’t know how people can look at Revis and say he is all about the money because he wouldn’t take less to go the Patriots. The Krafts are billionaires, why should Revis take less money and give a break to the guys who have all the money? Makes no sense.

  45. In 14 seasons, The Patriots have made the post season 12 times, advancing to The Championship Game 9 times, with 6 Super Bowl appearances, and they brought home the Lombardi Trophy 4 times (approximately once every three seasons). They only failed to make the post season 2x, yet still posted 11 and 9 wins respectively in those seasons. Can anyone else compare? The Patriots may know something the rest of us don’t. I’m not panicking…..but repeating is looking a wee bit tougher now.

  46. I am a Pitt fan and have always respected Revis …but this deal is a
little suspect. However I hope Revis stays healthy and collects all
of the contract. He has always been a hard worker and a player
who goes about his business in a professional way. Congrats.

  47. All the people blaming Kraft for “being cheap” Are the same folks that buy a new care they cant afford and put that vacation on the credit card and wonder why they can never pay the mortage.

  48. codythao35 says:

Wow, waste money paying this guy like a qb when the Jets are rebuilding. Who plays qb for the Jets?

Just a thought, but what if the Jets traded for Brees, knowing he is unhappy with the Saints. But I guess they might not have the cap room now after what they paid Revis.

  49. Funny when the pats get beat they say they were ‘out’ of it on Monday. Just like whiner.

  50. I have two points to make. First off I do not blame Revis for taking more money. It wasn’t a secret the Jets would pay almost anything to bring him back. I do fault for leaving a team that could have won another championship or two with him. He could have been a hall of famer and a multiple super bowl winning player elevating him to one of the best corners in the history of the game. I haven’t heard yet but I’m going to assume the numbers were not that different between NE and the Jets relatively speaking.
The second point I want to make is regarding the Patriots. Not only did they lose a once in a life time player to a division rival but also the opportunity to go back to back ten years after doing it. They could have cemented themselves as the best dynasty in NFL history. There is no reason they should have not resigned Revis. They could have afforded the cap hit. I would think Brady would be fuming right now.

I look forward to Mr. Bundchen screaming and crying at the refs this year.

Will last year’s champions even make the playoff’s this year?

  54. Yea that is alot if money.

Pats fans, (mostly), knew it was over with him monday.

Helped get us a ring i have no ill will to the man, he was always consistant in going to the highest bidder.

  55. Hey remember all the Jets fans crapping on Revis when he signed with the Pats? I think they called him Mevis…. You were right.

  56. As long as teams are willing to pay outrageous salaries, there will be players to accept them.

Wow, waste money paying this guy like a qb when the Jets are rebuilding. Who plays qb for the Jets?

    —————————-

As an Eagles fan, I’m really hoping the answer to that question will be Sam Bradford after the draft.

  58. I love Revis. I’m happy to have him back. But what is he coming back to? A team that will go .500 with Super Bowl franchise QB on the roster. I don’t want to settle for mediocrity. Going deep in the playoffs is not good enough. I want a SB championship. I want my team to hoist the Vince Lombardi trophy high in the air. And they won’t be doing that if they can’t find a franchise QB that will throw the bell consistently. It’s a joke. It really is.

Revis would have been better served in NWE to help the Pats win another championship. Now, with Wilfork, Browner, and Revis all gone, the Pats won’t even be sniffing the Super Bowl game, maybe not even the AFC championship game.

And another thing. As long as Brady is playing for the Pats, nobody else is winning that division. It’s hopeless.

  59. If I’m Revis, I’d taking the money too.

Jets D should be great. Not sure what Bowles can do with that offense, but the jets certainly seem to much improved.

Rex must be royally ticked off that he couldn’t get this GM in NY last year.

  60. $39 guranteed, along with the league minimum game schedule- no playoffs or overtime. And QBs probably won’t throw much in his direction either. Nice gig.

  61. This is why the jets are the jets. They feel like they’ve won it all in March after over spending to try and drum up positive press in the local dump they call NYC. Hope you enjoy watching the pats light you guys up again next year jets fans

  62. I hope enjoys spending the extra money he got to go back to losing. I guess the money he will earn on this contract and will never spend in his lifetime is worth more than winning. Signing with the Bills made sense with their D but the Jets??? LOSER MENTALITY! Enjoy all the parades in NY Revis. You won’t be on any floats. You will be in the crowd watching loser! Enjoy earning those few extra million dollars generations down the road will enjoy because money is still the most important thing to you at this point in your life! Enjoy Geno!!!!

Cut at 33 yrs old. Then he signs a 2 yr 40 million as a Raider.

  65. From first to worst, but hey, he got his ring. Now he can chase the money with his career’s singular achievement accomplished. Big loss for the Pats, but they’ll be right back in the AFCCG at least.

  66. I dont think he liked the way the pats do buisness you know CHEATING he may be greedy but he’s honest.I love patsy* fans wanted him monday old and overpaid on tuesday i love that it took a jet to get u over the hump everyone hates u guys for a reason ****

#1 need is a Corner Back…..what team are you watching…..or maybe your confusing CB with QB you must be 6 years old to make a statement like that…..wow let the world listen up…. The no 1 need of the Jets was a CB…..lol

  72. Said it too many times, this guy is the blueprint for all non QBs in the league. He knows how to play the game. Played a couple of years rehabbing in Tampa, then picked up his ring with the Patriots, and now is back where he always wanted to be making massive bank along with the marketing opportunities that only the NYC market can offer a player. Love this guy’s hu$tle.

  73. Revis has to go down in the Hall of fame for best contracts ever. I never saw a guy work the NFL like he did…Congrats

  74. There’s no way the Patriots could compete

Revis gets ALL this money PLUS he’s on the golf course in Hawaii by the first week in January every year

With the Patriots even if they match Revis has to play all the way to February for really not much more money

Less football and more money is what Revis wants and it’s what he’s going to get – well done Sir!

  75. On paper, every team in the AFC East has improved, while the Pats have gotten weaker.

But the game is not played on paper. So I guess we will see.

  76. @j0esixpack: Finally, well there have been a few good post. But so true, getting beat up in February or enjoying your Money and playing a Golf in Hawaii lol? Hmmmm Yeah, I’ll take the Golf course deal every time!

I don’t know what the Pats would have been willing to pay him but it is not like these guys are throwing away all 20 million to play on a great team, any team is going to pay him a huge salary. Being the sound businessman Revis obviously is, he could make up the money he lost by playing on a great team on endorsements and other investments.

So no, not everyone would just take the money, Revis did and it works for him, I would want championships while I am filthy rich as well.

Brady only makes 9 million a year. It would be difficult to pay Revis 150% of what Brady earns.

    ____________________________________

Earning and cap hit are two completely different things.

For instance, Revis would have earned 20 Million this year, but his cap hit would have been 25 Million.

  88. Welcome back to mismanaging the cap! I hope you have Idzik on speed dial because in a few years your gonna need a fall guy to make your cuts to be cap compliant

  89. Is Geno still the QB? Yea I thought so. Well Woody you bid against yourself and gave away more of your daddies money.

Revis did a great job for the Patsies last year helped them win a ring.

I’m sure the Patsies will show up for the first game of the year, also pretty sure as long as Brady is the QB and Belichick is the coach they will win 10 games, last time the J-E-T-S won 10 was ? Yea 2010.

  90. Oh Woody. What’s that saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…won’t get fooled again? LOL. Enjoy paying $39M for a guy who obviously no longer cares about winning.

  91. So in the AFC East you now have:

One of the best qb’s in the game, Brady and up and comer tannehill.
Two of the top 5 safety’s, Jones and mcourty
    The best defensive tackle, suh
The best cb, revis and another top 3, Grimes
The three best defensive lines in the NFL, dolphins, jets, bills
Two of the top 3 DE, wake and Williams
    The best TE gronk
    Top 3 RB McCoy

AFC East is going to be fun this year.

    ———————————————–
yeah…. I think their #1 need is actually a quarterback. I know it sounds kinda the same as cornerback but kind of important

  93. The rumor is revis chose the jets to extend his playing career (no chance of playoff games) thus retiring with 10’s of millions more then he would have.

  94. I respect the hell out of Revis and wanted the Pats to resign him. At the same time as Pats fans we all knew this was a one year deal to win the Super Bowl. We did that, and we should all be grateful. As for Jets fans:Revis didn’t win us a Super Bowl he was a part of a team that prior to him made a Super Bowl appearance in 2011 and two back to back AFC champ games in 2012-2013. How many Super Bowls did you guys win from 2007-2012 when he played for you? Pats will continue to win without him. When was the last time the Jets were perennial contenders? Your dumb owner traded him in 2012 because he wanted 16 mil a year, yet a few years later gives him 16 mil. To all Jets fans- enjoy your Free Agency win, the only team in the AFCE that scares me are the Bills ( you know the team with your former coach.). Pats will dink and dunk their way to beating you and Revis 2 times a year.

  95. Kraft is seen as cheap, NE fans are whining as their entire backfield is depleted, and I”M loving every moment of this!!!!!!!

To top it off, Brady’s receiving corp leaves a lot to be desired outside of Gronk…so now that the NE defense just got wayyyyyyy worse, the pressure will be huge on Brady to score points.

Can you see it now? Brady bursting a vein on the sideline, medics called in because NE is under pressure to score points to make up for the soon to be dumpster fire of a defense! But you’ve got Butler right….good luck with that!

Couldn’t happen to a more cheating team!

  96. Wow. Talk about going from the Penthouse (Patriots) to the outhouse (Jets).

At least the Jets have a chance now that Rex Ryan is up in Buffalo.

  97. One thing, here. This is great for the players, that they get to move around as free agents and make all the money they can.

But — just as with Deion Sanders and others — is this really good for the NFL? I mean, these rent-a-player deals are great for everyone but the fans.

Fans get attached to players and that’s how young fans become life-long fans, in my opinion. If players are going to move from team to team after one year — including between hated rivals — is that good for the NFL’s fan base? Just asking.

Oh — wait a minute. I forgot. The fans don’t count in any way considering players and owners. All they do is foot the bill. Forget I mentioned it.

  98. Is this not 13 million per year for three years…is the rest not a place holder?
That isn’t all that much different considering what the Pats paid last year (12 million)! Dumb. Lack of CB has always been a Pats Achilles…remember those previous visits to the promised land…hail Mary passes…lost SBs.

  99. To pay this kind of money for a 30 year old DB is not a wise move. These new Wide Receivers will start to run and burn Revis. The rookie Cooper can blow by him. R U forgetting Revis gave up a TD in SB. He is not worth the money. He is better than average, but not much more. Long term contracts come back to haunt U, although he will not C the end of his.m

  100. There’s no way to spin this positively. Its an absolutely stupid decision from the Pats that has immediately significantly weakened them.

It doesn’t matter how good or bad the Jets still are, the damage to the Pats is like cutting off an arm and a leg.

Letting this guy go for a few million bucks more is insane. Pats fans will be back to covering our eyes every time teams drop back to pass on the Pats now.

I still trust in BB but I genuinely cannot understand in what universe past, present or future this move strengthens the Pats or improves their chances of winning next season.

  101. well im so happy Revis is back with the Jets, bought a Jets Revis jersey from TJ Maxx last season for $15, now I can wear it 🙂

  102. This was his chance to show that he cared as much about his rep as he did his bankroll. After spending a horrible season in Tampa, Bellichick helped Revis regain his reputation as the best corner in football, and got him his first ring.

Revis has already made a cajillion dollars with his holdouts, this was his time to take a little less to stay with the best organization in the NFL and try for another ring to cement his legacy for the HOF.

Instead, he reverts back to his old self, bails on the team that helped him rebuild his reputation, and runs to the team who throws absolutely STUPID money at him, to rejoin one of the crappiest teams in NFL history.

Obviously it doesn’t matter to Revis that despite having way more money he could ever spend, he’s willing to have a crappy existence for the most $$$. How good can the Jets get when they’ve given so much of their payroll to one cornerback, leaving so little for other incidentals, like, say, a franchise quarterback.

I thank him for helping the Patriots win the Super Bowl, and when he’s got his grandchildren sitting in his lap saying “Grandpa, how many Super Bowl rings did you win?”, he can show them his bank statements.

Disappointed in you, Darrelle, I thought you had finally wised up. You can only spend so much money. Rings, on the other hand …..

  103. So in two years he’ll be holding out for a new contract.

Good signing, but it seems like the Pats could’ve matched this, no?

    Oh well.

It’s hard enough to get back to the SB two years in a row, and I don’t see the Pats doing it again this season. The Seahawks, on the other hand, added Graham, and I’ll bet they make another run.

  104. Looks like the Jets won the March Super Bowl again. Let’s say Revis adds a couple of wins .and go to 5-11 or 6-10. .

    Awesome!!!!!!

  105. Given the size of the contract the Jets gave Revis, the Pats should be awarded the Jets 1st round picks in 2015 and 2016 due to the Jets tampering with Revis. Unfortunately for the Pats organization and fans, given that Goodell and Kensil still work for the Jets and go out of their way to support and encourage the Jets cheating organization, the Jets will likely not even receive a slap on the wrist for cheating yet again.

Lastly, given that they are still the Jets they will probably end up 4th in the AFC East yet again in 2015.

  106. Well good for him. I hope he doesn’t mind loosing. Its a lot harder to do after being a winner. Also, his chances of going to the hall of fame have taken a bit of a nose dive. Oh well.

  107. The Jets will be awesome ! They will only give up 14 pts a game. Trouble is they will only score 10 a game. The Jets will continue to wallow in mediocrity for the next 5 years…..

  108. Was it disappointing to see him leave after he got his ring? heck yea it was.

Did anyone really believe he would stay? I don’t know. I wanted him to stay. I thought that maybe winning the SB would whet his appetite for more. But history was against what I wanted to believe and it played out just the way history said it would.

That is simply too much money up front and garaunteed for the Patriots to match, unfortunately.

So, thanks for the year, glad you got your SB ring and helped the Patriots win #4. I don’t look forward to seeing them play you again twice a year, but I think the Pats will still be winning both times for the bulk of that contract, so I’m not too worried.

  109. Revis guaranteed for 3 years will probably be the exact amount of time he’s as effective as he is now. That’s why it hurts as a Pats fan. He allows you to be so much more flexible on defense and it was worth having him just for the 1 year for what we got out of it.

Anyone bashing the Patriots discipline on the negotiating side should reference every single time they were right (way more than they’ve been wrong) in these situations as they’ve managed the cap in the Belichick era. I would have paid the guy b/c I think he’s that big of a game-changer, but then again, it’s hard to argue with their success in this regard.

  110. Thanks Darrelle Revis for coming to New England, even if only for one season. It was great having you here and watching you play for the Patriots.

I wish you well (except against the Patriots).

  111. At least this helps guarantee the Jets won’t have talent elsewhere on the team.

Looking at what is happening in the division…It’s going to be one heck of challenge year for the Pats offense. But it is the defense which is going backwards. 5+ years the defense has been fair to middling at best. They finally looked solid this year. Now it is falling apart again. Bummer.

  112. Revis got a taste of playing in January and didn’t like it, so he picked a contract that not only guaranteed him money, but also an extra long offseason every year…smart move

  113. Revis Island, Inc !!!

He should work for Warren Buffet. He fleeced the Jets… For a NON QB… no player in the history of the NFL (Maybe Dione Sanders) made the most of his time in the league… A true mercenary.

As a Pats fan it is hard to see him go … but BB/Kraft are never gonna tie up that much money for a non QB… it is an unbelievable amount of money.

Good luck to him… any takers on how many wins the Jets get next season? I set the over/under at 7.

  114. man, if they kept Browner, I would say with the collapse of Denver last year, the only offense the Pats need to have a stacked defensive secondary against would be Green Bay, who haven’t gotten it done in the playoffs recently, but man, the Pats are going back to a no name secondary that won’t look any better without Wilfork up front. In Bill we trust, but get ready for another first 1/3 of a season with a defense that looks horrible until they get the schemes and the coaches adjust to the players strengths, and then a serviceable unit that doesn’t really shut down anyone.

  115. can i comment on all you patriot/dolphin fans that dont know a thing about economics in football.

this deal is brilliant over 3 years we pay him 13million guaranteed a year. now lest do some simple math for all the idiotic pat/dolphin fans that 1(one) more million than the pats payed him last year, and 7 less million than the pats option.

YES SEEMS WE PAYED SOOOO MUCH FOR HIM

  116. Well, practices just got a WHOLE LOT easier for Darrelle. Instead of practicing against the G.O.A.T., he is going to practice against Geno Smith!

Without be challenged in practice anymore, his skills are sure to erode big time.

    LMAO.

  117. “What’s that you’re asking, Darrelle? You want me to keep it to myself that we’ve dropped out of the bidding, at least until after you’ve hosed the ‘J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets!’? Sure thing, buddy. No, no, think nothing of it. Anything for a pal. Say, you don’t mind if I share this story with Rex, once you’ve signed a deal, do you? Thanks, friend. Best of luck!”

It is a good deal if Revis helps the Jets win a Super Bowl (and hell freezes over), it is a terrible deal if the Jets continue to make no noise in January and February.

In other words, probably a terrible deal for the Jets.
