Andre Johnson: Frank Gore and I agree, we can win a Super Bowl

New Colts receiver Andre Johnson says he and fellow new Colt Frank Gore agreed to sign with Indianapolis together because they want to win a Super Bowl together.

Johnson said that as soon as the Texans cut him, Gore (a University of Miami teammate) was on the phone, trying to convince him that they should sign with the same team and try to get a ring.

“After I got released by the Texans, Frank called me,” Johnson said. “He called me right after it happened and was just like, ‘What are you gonna do?’ I’m like, ‘Frank, I don’t know. I just got released. I don’t know.’ I asked, him ‘Who do you think has the best chance to win a Super Bowl?’ And he was like, ‘Indy.’ And I was like, ‘That’s my same choice too so let’s do it, let’s go for it.’ And they were able to get both of us here.”

Johnson said he’s looking forward to playing with Andrew Luck (by far the best quarterback he’s ever played with) and thinks the Colts have what it takes to win the Super Bowl in 11 months.

“Me and Frank are here to try to help this organization get over the hump and get a ring,” Johnson said.

That would be quite a way to wrap up a great career.

  1. I’ve liked both players for a long time. I hope they win the Super Bowl–they (and Luck) deserve it. And please, Colts–get rid of Trent Richardson, ok? He just can’t cut it.

  2. No, you CANT beat New England. Neither of you are guarding Gronk or rushing Brady.
But this is why they have the season, so everybody can get excited.

And thanks to your great managers deflate gate tampering: Pats by 50 for every game for 5 years.

  3. “Not that either of us have ever won one, but we have a really good feeling about this.”

  4. The Colts are pretty good, but to say they have the best chance to win the SB is a bit of a stretch…

  5. How would they know whether the Colts have what it takes to win a Super Bowl, neither of them has ever won one.

  6. Everyone on here acts as though the Colts haven’t done and aren’t going to do anything in FA and the draft to shore up the run D. There are still some big names on the board and Indy still has 18 million or so. Get your cheap jokes in now because you won’t be laughing once you miss the playoffs all together.

  7. The score of next year’s Super Bowl will be Cardinals 49, Colts 14, with one TD apiece for Johnson and Gore.

  8. Calling Indy “upstarts”? lol, they’ve been in the playoffs every season except 1 for the past 20 years…

As to them saying Indy has the best chance to win, I’m sure they were calculating out of the teams that would be looking for both a WR and a RB.

  9. The one name that worries me here is Wilfork. Free agent? Check. A member of those Hurricanes teams? Check. Huge instant upgrade to Indy’s weakest link, their run D? Check.

My only hope as a Patriots fan is that it makes too much sense to happen.

  10. Yeah, it was that run defense that kept them out of the Super Bowl. Gore, AJ, TY, and Luck should be special though. Luck is gonna love Gore for rushing yards and pass protection . I think Gore and Luck are Harbaugh’s two favorite players…They should get D Mcfadden as well.

  11. Nah, Andre is right. Out of all of the teams interested in both of them, Indy has the best shot. There’s not many teams out there that have deep playoff runs that need both a WR and a RB. That said, Indy still needs a run D.

  12. I think your chances are better than if the two of you had signed with Cleveland and made the same statement…

  13. The Colts are going to figure this out soon enough, but you do have to wonder if Gore and Johnson have enough left. Trent Richardson signing really set them back.

  14. Neither will finish the season healthy and playing and both will be watching the playoffs on TV – from a retirement home while picking-out their new rooms.

  15. It’s day 2 of free agency, folks. The Colts probably aren’t done…I expect at least a NT or interior D lineman (Knighton maybe, or Wilfork). If not, they address this in the draft. They focused on the two skill positions that needed addressed and now can draft for the trenches. The Colts need to do more on D, but its early. Lots of names still on the boards. And not every pick-up has to be a top dollar guy. Grigson is remembering he has to pay Luck and the young guys next year, so they can’t blow all their $$$

  16. yeah, since it was a decade between titles [and a gifted one at that] the Pats really don’t worry me all that much… so keep talking because I’m guessing you’re gonna need more air out of the ball this coming year. Colts ain’t foolin’ around. They also had a couple of nice defensive grabs too and Mathis will be back.

Yah, this would not be good for the AFC, if it were to happen…

  18. The Colts defense is horrible. Especially considering their head coach comes from a defensive background.

I like the move on getting Frank Gore though. I remember when Bradshaw was healthy and the Colts had an offense that looked very good. Not a pass happy team we always see but one that moved the chains and drained the clock out. They beat down a very good 49ers team at the time playing that way.

  19. Well, since the AFC Easy will be uncontested again, the road to the Super Bowl goes through Foxboro.

  20. Gore and Johnson are certainly nice additions, and it will help Luck and that offense even more without a doubt.

Wayne, Johnson, Hilton, Gore, Fleener, Luck – that is one heck of a offense. And they will need it with their lack of D.
The problem last year was the D – 22nd overall in defensive game stats. They need key players at key positions.

If they can crack top 10 in defensive stats, they could make a serious run. I am a huge fan of Chuck Pagano, and really like the way Luck plays the game. He had big shoes to fill when Manning left, but he has done an excellent job of filling those shoes. Now he has two more legit weapons at his disposal if they can stay healthy. They were certainly lacking a run game last year, and Gore helps out quite a bit in that category.

If Bradshaw is welcome back in Indy and comes back healthy (and without any league discipline for having a passenger in his car with Mary Jane) Bradshaw, Herron, and Gore could be a nice RB trio. Or maybe they go RB in the draft, which is also likely . Richardson is a bum and has been an expensive bust for the Colts.

  21. So you’re telling me there’s a chance!

It’s a pretty slim one, gentlemen. I wish them the best but they’d have done better with the Eagles, IMO.

  22. They definitely need some run D and Wilfork would go a long way toward helping stabilize that DL. My Canes stick together and when you look at the number of HOF to come from the U over the last 30 years, you realize that we put some hella good players in the NFL.

Foxboro and the Pats are good but there dominance on the AFC is quickly coming to an end. Other teams are scooping up their players and it becomes increasing more difficult to restock with no names with the same degree of success regardless of BB “Genius” status. Nobody deserve a SB ring to go along with NC rings that they earned at the U. Good luck and god speed my friends.

  23. There’s still no way the Patriots lose to this team. Luck’s beard will be dragging on the ground before it happens. Extra motivation to crush that sour grapes “secret deflator” Grigson too…

  24. It’s crazy to see how many bitter fans of other teams are on here.

First off, to all the idiots saying we won’t even make the AFC championship game….Are you guys mentally challenged? Colts made it there last yr with a terrible Oline, Dline, Run game, and Defense in general.

2nd of all, to all you who say Gore and AJ are washed up. AJ had 85 catches and 900+ yards last yr with TERRIBLE QB’s. All the sudden, you guys think he’s washed up? How does that make any sense. Gore is coming off another 1000 yard season, runs very hard, great leader in the locker room, determined, hard worker, etc….You guys are fools if you think they won’t help this offense a ton

3rd of all, you act like the Colts aren’t aware their D was terrible. You’re living in the past. You don’t think there gonna address their defensive needs? Resigned probowler Safety Mike Adams. Dqwell Jackson probowler ILB. Picked up Langford for the Rams who is a huge run stopper. Still have are dominant CB’s who were statistically in the top 3 tandems in the league. Signed Trent cole who is old, but experienced with high football IQ and will be solid addition. AND we get Robert Mathis back who was the leading sack getter just 2 seasons ago, and he will be fresh this yr.

They will address the other holes on their team in the draft. I’d quit all the idiotic posts you guys are doing bc you clearly don’t know anything about Colts football.

Oh and btw, Pats just lost Browner and Revis. How do you plan on containing our passing attach now??

  25. I think that a lot of the ” hate ” directed toward the Colts may be disguising some ” jealousy ” and even ” fear ” in a sense. If the Patriots had made these moves , it’d be all over the media as well as some of the message boards ” Belichick is a genius !!!!! ” ” another series of great moves by the Patriots !!!!!! ” ” on their way to another championship!!! ” I like what the Colts are quietly doing , and I’m not even a fan . But Colts fans can’t get caught up in the nonsense. Realize where it’s coming from and why and relax. When I read and see some of the comments ( and you know who the are . Patriot fans and followers ) , I actually think some of them are funny and at times hilarious . They have Tommy and Belichick , Gronk , etc . Gotta admire that . But the window is closing . They had their run . They know this and so do their fans . It’s going to be a hard fall when it ends

Will it be the scary Mathis on PEDs or the mortal Mathis who wasn’t that good in previous years?

Yeah, with Revis being gone Colts might lose by just 20.
