The Vikings were linked with guard Clint Boling in the days leading up to free agency, but it appears Boling has decided to remain in Cincinnati rather than join former Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer in Minnesota.

There may be other options to explore from outside the organization, but new arrivals may have to compete with Joe Berger for playing time. The Vikings moved to make sure they weren’t left without options up front on Tuesday by re-signing the 10-year veteran.

According to multiple reports, it is a two-year, $2.155 million deal for a player who started nine games last season while right guard Brandon Fusco was injured. Fusco should be back in the lineup next season, but the Vikings cut last year’s left guard Charlie Johnson and Berger could find himself in the mix for that spot depending on how things play out in the next few months.

If he’s not in the lineup, Berger, who can also play center, will be a top reserve up front for the Vikings.
