Dolphins land Jordan Cameron

Jordan Cameron is joining the Dolphins.

Cameron has reached a deal with Miami, PFT’s Mike Florio confirmed Thursday night. Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports first reported the Dolphins had signed Cameron, who was one of the better free agents left on the market.

Earlier Thursday, multiple reports indicated Cameron had an agreement to go back to the Browns, with whom he had spent his first four NFL seasons.

In the end, though, the Dolphins closed the deal for Cameron, who caught 80 passes two seasons ago but was hampered by injuries in 2014, and he has suffered three concussions since December 2012.

The Dolphins’ deal with Cameron throws Charles Clay’s future in Miami into some doubt. The Dolphins used the transition tag on Clay, but it’s unlikely they would pay two tight ends major money.

UPDATE 9:23 p.m. ET: The Dolphins have announced the signing of Cameron. Furthermore, a source tells Florio that the Dolphins will keep the transition tag on Clay.

  1. Can’t blame a guy for wanting out of Cleveland but the Fins are taking a big risk. What, is he on like 8 concussions now? Hopefully he can stay healthy because he has beast potential.

  2. I agree. I would have rather had clay, who doesnt have a bunch of concussions and is faster.

  3. Clay is on his way back to Miami without signing with the Bills. Miami is just playing games with Clay now. I hope he realizes that. They have Sims and Cameron with limited cap space. Enjoy being a pawn.

  4. As a Texan’s fan looking in on the AFC East, it appears ever team has gotten better in the division except the Pats. Still not sure if any team has improved enough to surpass them though…

  5. Cleveland vs Florida and no state income tax, that’s a no brainer.

  6. It will be very difficult for Miami to keep Clay and Cameron at 14 million plus. The question would be whether they are planning to waive Wallace. They need a lot more cap space if both TE remain or rosters. Interesting because the only 1st string receiver that would remain is Landry.

  7. The Browns actually dodged a bullet on this one. Cameron is a converted basketball player and too fragile for the NFL

  8. If healthy, Cameron is an upgrade over Clay. Bigger, nearly as fast, more consistent route-running and hands.

But it’s important to remember that Clay has been banged up, too, and is not a 100% lock to either stay healthy or continuing to improve.

All players are gambles in the NFL, and neither of these guys are an exception.

Personally…I hope the Fins end up with both. Add Dion Sims and the TE role is deep and solid. And that’s not counting the injured rookie from last year, Arthur Lynch.

  10. With all of these moves, maybe the Dolphins will actually sellout a home game besides when the Patriots and Jets come to town……

  11. 6ft 5 TE with good hands is what Fins needed in red zone situations and pro bowl Cameron gives them that along with Sims.

  12. I like Cameron. I wish him well…this is not sour grapes, but man, his season is gonna be over soon and it’s only March! Anyway, good luck dide, I hope you stay healthy!

  13. It’s actually a good thing for the Browns, Cameron is hurt a lot, and one more hit to the head will end his career – don’t want to see that happen, but it’s a huge risk. More than $7 million per is way too much to spend on a guy who won’t make it through a full season healthy.

  14. In all honesty, if this guy ends up playing every game this season there is no reason why he shouldn’t have a good year and be viewed as a good signing , and upgrade for Tannehill.

  15. Miami is clearly looking for guys who can average more than 10 yards a catch. Great signing as this guy average over 17 yards a catch last year. Clay on the other hand averaged about 10 and his yards per catch decreased every year. Even Sims averaged more yards per catch.
I like the signing even if it comes with risk.

  16. Two season ago Dolphin had Clay make impressive plays. Last season he was left there… Dolphins still ended up 8-8 missing the playoffs and games that Tanney needed to win he lost…
So the Dolphins go and sign the biggest FA to one of the worst contracts, than gets a okay TE, Clay is still better, that will not be used that much.
Ross please sell the Dolphins to an owner that loves and cares about the team. And knows about football.

  17. Some of you people are disgusting so called humans talking like you hope he gets hurt and his career is over. You need help to try to not be human trash
