Tight end Jordan Cameron either didn’t like what he heard from the Dolphins or didn’t feel like waiting to see if the team struck a deal with Charles Clay because he’s headed back to Cleveland.
According to multiple reports, Cameron has agreed to a two-year, $15 million deal with the Browns after paying a visit to Miami this week. Reports earlier on Thursday had the Dolphins negotiating with Clay about a long-term deal that would remove the transition tag they used earlier this week while also meeting with Cameron, but they’ll no longer be able to play both hands at the same time.
Cameron suffered through a rough 2014 season as a shoulder injury slowed him early in the season and concussions knocked him out of the lineup later in the year. He wound up with just 24 catches for 424 yards and two touchdowns. Cameron was much more effective in 2013 while catching 80 passes for 917 yards and seven touchdowns and the Browns are presumably hoping that he can stay healthy enough to put up similar production this season.
Cameron’s return likely takes the Browns out of the race for Clay, which likely leaves him to sign a new deal with the Dolphins, sign an offer sheet with the Bills or play out the year on his transition tender.
