Report: Cowboys negotiating with Greg Hardy’s agent

AP

Maybe this is the mystery team.

While most of the NFL is backing slowly away from free agent defensive end Greg Hardy, there seems to be someone speeding up.

According to Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, the Cowboys are negotiating with Hardy’s agent.

Now, that’s a long way from “deal is close” or any such, but it is interesting that they’re the first ones to give any indication they’d welcome the former Panther, who missed most of last year on the commissioner’s exempt list because of domestic violence charges which were eventually thrown out.

He fits an obvious on-field need for the Cowboys, as he had 15.0 sacks the last time he played a full season.

But the specter of league punishment and his track record has given many teams pause, which is the only reason he’s still on the free agent market.

  1. If the league could make a decision then he would not be a FA. But by dragging their feet nearly a year just goes to show how awesome Roger doing.

  2. I’m down send him our way I like having a sociopath on my defense. Hopefully we will get McClain back too bc they would be wrecking havoc.

  3. Talk all you want about “class” and all, but if he wanted to come to YOUR team and bring his double digit sacks to you, you’d overlook his issues too.

  4. “LET THE DOGS OUT” Go for it Dallas. The man can play. Maybe what he needs is a discipline locker room and some new teammates. I guess in this world or this NFL league, NOBODY deserves a second chance. Go ahead BIG D, give it to him.

  5. Bring him to TeamCowboys, Draft Melvin Gordon, draft a DT in the 2nd round and let’s get a linebacker in the 3rd round, and resign Rolando McClain

  6. Ray Rice should be headed there for a workout next. Gotta look for the bargains when your cap is crippled by Tony Romo.

  7. A safe contract plus his signature….watch out Sam Bradford…or Sanchez…or mariota. Not sure if that last name is spelt right or witch quarterback will start for the eagles

  8. Ctiggs…u know if whoever u follow would make a run u would b on board..jason g. And that locker oomph will keep him.on the straight. This is the qb eater we need..sign him up

  9. Good move. Cowboys need help on defense. Hardy would feel a void immediately. Probably can sign Hardy cheap. If Hardy signs with the Cowboys, there will be clauses in his contract to be on the straight and narrow.

I’d love to have this guy on the Bengals. Too bad Mike Brown won’t do it unless he comes cheap. That won’t happen.

Of course he’ll come cheap – no one wants him.

  11. So AP pleas his deal & all is forgiven. Hardy’s gets thrown out & he’s evil incarnate. SMH Must just be Cowboy haters.

  12. If they sign Hardy, the chances of the Cowboys bringing in Peterson just went from slim to none. There is know way they could absorb the PR nightmare of having a known woman beater and a known child abuser on the team at the same time.

  13. Anyone with 2 brain cells could predict, it had to be either Dallas or Oakland that would welcome this type of off the filed bagagge.

  14. Lets face it, Dallas and Jerruh are about the only ones that could withstand the publicity hit by signing this guy. Seems like thumping folks is second nature down there.

  15. I have a hard time believing they’ll reach a deal. Dallas has proven in the last few years that they’re about financial discipline. Hardy will be cheaper than he wants to be no matter who he ends up with but doubt he and his agent will go low enough to what Dallas is willing to offer. If they do come to an agreement, it’ll probably be similar to the one Henry Melton signed last year, 1 year with a team option. In which case they’ll use him for a year, hope Demarcus Lawrence develops and still go after an edge rusher in the draft and then deny the option next March. Then they can potentially get a compensatory pick the following draft too. We’ll see…

  16. I think the Cowboys should defiantly go for it, sign him to a team friendly. ( with a possible 1-6 game suspension looming over his head in sure it’ll be easy to do ) Draft DT Arik Armstead in the first round ( the last time they drafted a 20 year old in the first round it turned out pretty damn good “Tyron Smith” ) draft CB Quinten Rollins in the second round, and in the third round draft RB TJ Yeldon. I think you could get him in the fourth. LB isn’t a need, as long as they resign Rolando McClain. Starters would be: strong side linebacker – Hitchens middle linebacker – McClain Weakside linebacker – Lee and with the two FA LB’s Dallas signed this offseason we should have plenty depth right now.

  17. If dallas can land greg hardy n return Rolando McClain they will b an improved team n would have had a successful frrrangrncy in my opinion despite losing some players n as far as murray n mcfadden farren has always been more talented then demarco switch there roles n put nurray in oakland n darren in dallas the last 4 years n i gurantee u almost every1 opinion would b different

  19. And I ask for the billionth time, what is the basis for suspending him? He had a relationship with (insert name of garden utensil here), she wasn’t getting the fame she wanted, got loaded up on cocaine, made up an imaginary story about Hardy abusing her, then she disappears, takes some money from Hardy to avoid having her sordid sex life put on public display, and the charges go away.

Again, WHY SHOULD HARDY BE SUSPENDED???????

He should not be. All this holier-than-thou crap has to stop. No punishment at the time of accusation. No punishment at all unless a player is CONVICTED BY JURY of a crime.

Not true at all. I knew the Raiders wouldn’t sign him because they don’t put up with domestic abuse and I was some kind of happy when they passed.

Hardy is a turd, plain ans simple and the team that signs him is the team of turds.

  21. Funny all this labeling of Hardy as a “felon”. Don’t you have to be actually found guilty of a crime to be a criminal or is everybody just jumping on him now because the Cowboys are trying to get him? I’m guessing its the latter.

  22. Memo…the NFL is a mans league, not the Boy Scouts..if he was on your team taking down the QB, you would love him..

Sign him Dallas, and while your at it, sign McClain too..

Add a piece or two in the draft..instant defense..

  23. Some team is going to get a deal on this guy. Just need to get past the PR hit, although no charges were ever filed. It’s a risk, but could be well worth it.

  24. Next they will announce the signing of Ray Rice, Ray McDonald, and any other miscreant they can find. They are turning into the Raiders/Ravens South. They may even have to start building prison bars around the practice fields so their players feel more at home.
