Report: Antwon Blake arrested and released over weekend

Steelers cornerback Antwon Blake reportedly had a bit too much to drink on Saturday night, which led him to spend some time early Sunday morning in the company of Oceanside, California law enforcement officials.

TMZ reported that Blake was arrested for public intoxication early Sunday morning when police picked him while he was walking around drunk outside of bars in Oceanside. He was taken into custody and then released once he sobered up. Jacob Klinger of confirmed with city police that someone with Blake’s name and birthdate was arrested and released, but further details became confidential once Blake was released.

“We are aware of the report and are still gathering information,” Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

It doesn’t seem like there’s going to be much fallout as a result of the incident, which appears to be a case of the police giving Blake a chance to sleep it off before letting him go on his way. Blake was given a one-year tender as a restricted free agent by the Steelers, who he provided with 36 tackles during his second season with the team.

  1. That’s a 50 dollar fine and the lightest misdemeanor you can get. Nothing to see here.

  2. Before all the non-Steelers fans start throwing stones…

Was your 24 year old self, ever outside a bar while drunk?

  3. But, but this never happens to a Steeler. They’re all perfect citizens in a perfect organization.

Really though, he wasn’t driving. Just stupid drunk. Does this even technically reset the arrest meter?

  4. Well – not what you really want to hear about your players during the off-season, but if he only had a few too many and was stumbling around a bit, I guess it’s not the end of the world.

Considering all that could have gone wrong (drunk driving, fights, resisting arrest, assault on police et al.) maybe someone at head office could have a quiet word with him. You know, just good fatherly advice like something I got some 20+ years ago:

“You want to tie one on? Go to the liquor store, buy a bottle, take it home, hide your car keys, have a few drinks with a close trusted friend or two, listen to some music or watch TV – and DON’T GO OUT!”

Then you can regret drinking the next morning, as you hurt from the hangover…

  5. He had a few too many drinks, but he was smart enough not to drive, argue with the cops, or fight. He should be given a bonus.

  6. New nickname: Otis (Mayberry’s town drunk that would walk to the jail and lock himself up)

  7. Anyone who believes that this team can make any type of headway into the playoffs with the defense it currently has must believe in the tooth fairy. Why this particular position has been such a problem to staff over the years—and overlooked by Colbert and Tomlin—is a great mystery.

Ravens had 10 arrests last offseason. Quiet your gums.

23- It wasn’t 10 but even with that bad off season the Ravens have EXACTLY the same number of arrests as the Steelers since 2000 according the NFL Arrest Database.

But Cincy is still far out front with 42

  9. If being drunk at a bar is that big of a deal, than I guess I was a hardened criminal in my 20’s.
