The Panthers adding a cornerback with starting experience.

Carolina has reached a one-year, $2 million deal with Jacksonville’s Alan Ball, Aaron Wilson of National Football Post reported.

The 29-year-old Ball started all 22 games in which he played for the Jaguars over the last two seasons, defending 17 passes and hauling in three interceptions. A biceps injury ended his 2014 campaign after seven games.

An Illinois product, Ball (6-2, 197) has made 44 regular season starts in a career that has also included stints with Dallas (2007-2011) and Houston (2012). He joins Josh Norman, Bene’ Benwikere and Melvin White among primary options at cornerback for Carolina.

UPDATE: This report proved to be erroneous; Ball left Charlotte without a deal.

  1. Another no name signing by the cheap Carolina Panthers management staff which is totally Dave Gettleman. He is still shopping in the bargain bin department for castoffs, scrubs, and stiffs. Nothing new here under the sun. Sigh!

  2. Liked Alan as a Jag. Tough, physical corner that was badly needed in the Jags defense.
