Bengals bring back Brandon Tate

Wide receiver/kick returner Brandon Tate visited with the Chiefs this week and the prospect of losing him may have spurred the Bengals into taking action to ensure Tate’s return to the team for the 2015 season.

The Bengals announced Wednesday that they have re-signed Tate, who has spent the last four seasons in Cincinnati.

“Brandon has been a big contributor to the success of our team in qualifying for the playoffs the past four seasons,” coach Marvin Lewis said in a statement. “We are happy he has decided to remain a Bengal.”

Tate joined the Bengals as a waiver claim in 2011 after he was cut loose by the Patriots and has spent most of his time with the team as their primary kickoff and punt returner. He wasn’t particularly productive in either role last season, which led many to believe that the Bengals would be looking elsewhere for return help in 2015.

They still may do that in the draft, especially if they can find a player who also offers a potential boost to the offense as a receiver. Tate caught 17 passes for the Bengals last season, but has never made much of an impact in the passing game during his time with the team.

  1. Come on Bengal fans. Tell us how good this signing is when ya were wishing goodluck to KC when they had him in for a visit earlier this week.

    Don’t worry, we’ll wait.

  2. I hope they resigned the guy who’s job it is to run towards Tate on the kickoff and make sure he doesn’t run it out of the endzone from ten yards deep every kick.

  3. Thank God!!!

Bengals owner mike brown signed the “great” Brandon Tate to strengthen the receiving corps.

1 reception and 10 receiving yards per game in 2014.

    Thank The Lord!!!

  4. Sorry Kurdishpats1 you’ll not get to read those words from us Bengals fans. I’m pretty sure Brandon Tate was the one guy we universally wanted to get rid of. He makes a big play then usually fumbles the next time he touches it. He’s like Gresham in WR form.

Hahaha You’re so mad right now. Heart beating fast right now.

  6. Great, looks like we’ll have another season of Tate opting to take it out of the end zone and running to the 16 instead of just taking the touchback.

And next we will hear: “Bengals bring back Jermaine Gresham.”

  8. Yep let’s go resign a guy that runs kicks 8 yards out of the back of the end zone. I have wanted Tate gone for years because literally has zero awareness when it comes to special teams. He’s clueless and adds nothing. Not like they paid much for him I’m sure but I just want him off the team he hurts their special teams return game.
