Ravens trade Gino Gradkowski to Broncos

The Broncos have been looking to add to their options at center this offseason and it looks like they’ve settled on a player who played for head coach Gary Kubiak in Baltimore last season.

The Ravens announced Wednesday that they have traded center Gino Gradkowski and a 2016 draft pick to the Broncos in exchange for a 2016 draft pick. There are no details about which picks will be swapped or if there are any conditions based on Gradkowski’s output in Denver that can change the compensation.

Gradkowski was a fourth-round pick by Baltimore in 2012 and started every game at center for the Ravens during his second NFL season. The results were not all that good, leading Baltimore to trade for Jeremy Zuttah before the 2014 season. Gradkowski saw just a handful of snaps as a reserve in Baltimore and may not have made the team this year with John Urschel and Ryan Jensen on hand as other options in the middle of the line.

The Broncos had Manny Ramirez at center to start last season and moved Will Montgomery into the first team as they looked for a better unit as the year went on. Montgomery is a free agent, leaving Gradkowski without much in the way of experienced competition for the job at the moment.

  1. I would’ve preferred Chris Myers if Kubes was going for a familiar face. More average/below average talent on a bad offensive line.

Someone should tell Oz that the goal is to get more back on a trade, not less. And how is a 2016 pick going to help, they’ll have no money left to sign their draft picks after paying Flacco about $40M that year.

  3. Gino couldn’t block a doorway.

Not only that but his most effective pass blocking technique was becoming a human speed bump and praying the D lineman tripped over him.

Seriously, he’s bad. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised or upset if we traded Denver a higher pick than we got in exchange for him.

  4. Love that Ozzie. Clears up 1.5 million, gets rid of the Pittsburgh Steelers fan in a ravens jersey (thank god), and most likely will get a fourth rd pick for the ravens 6th or 7th depending on if he plays….oh and one more thing, he also puts one of the worst centers in the league on a playoff team with Peyton Manning on it. Ozzie is cold blooded.

OK, but was the draft pick they got higher than the one they gave up?

    :::::::::::::::::::::::

What kind of a dumb question is that? Of course it was better or else they wouldn’t make the trade dum dum

  6. Maybe he will improve in Kubiaks system, but he was really, really bad for the Ravens in ’13. I mean, really, really bad. Seriously, it’s hard to communicate how bad he was in ’13. For their sake, I hope they have a back up plan.

  7. Isn’t this the guy the Wizard of Fraud drafted to replace Matt Birk? Ratbird fans said he’d solidify the position for a decade!!

    In Oz we bust…

    Go Steelers!

  8. Uh…crownofthehelmet Do you even football, dude? Ozzie unloaded the worst center in the league (who took only 10 snaps last season), gained a million dollars in cap space and moved UP in next year’s draft. That IS getting more than you’re giving. SMH.

  9. He looked like he was on roller skates in 2013. Flacco had to dodge left or dodge right to let Gino and the DT blow past him.

I’ll see your Gino Gradkowski in the 4th and raise you a Limas Sweed in the 2nd.

    Kevin Colbert is God….awful.

  11. I have…No Idea..what Elway is doing this off season.
I’m certain he has no concern that some Podunk fan can’t follow his reasoning, but I hope to God he has a plan and is going somewhere with all this.
Peyton gave back $4 mil to watch him sign ex-7th round picks who were about to be cut anyway.

  12. Sandy….Sergio Kindle…Kyle Boller…Travis Taylor…Jimmie Smith…Dan Cody…Mark Clayton…Matt Elam…Arthur Brown…Bernard Pierce…Jah Reid

    Busts! One and all!!

    Go Steelers!

Look at you going back 15 years and including guys who are either not actually busts at all or still on their rookie contracts. But ok, I’ll play…..

Just since 2012, when Gradkowski was drafted with pick #98, the 3rd selection in the 4th round, the Steelers have drafted these gems with higher picks than the Gino was selected at:

Mike Adams, Sean Spence, Jarvis Jones, and Markus Wheaton…and it doesn’t look good for Shazier or Archer either.

If you go further back, you get such studs as Curtis Brown, Jason Worilds, Ziggy Hood, the entire 2008 draft class, Anthony Smith, Willie Reid, Ricardo Colclough, Alonzo Jackson, Marvel Smith, Kendrick Clancy, and Hank Poteat.

What’s worse than a bust? And how many of those jerseys do you still have in your closet?
