Antonio Smith lands with Broncos

The Broncos haven’t done much in free agency.  But they’ve done something now.

According to agent Drew Rosenhaus, defensive lineman Antonio Smith has signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Broncos.

Smith was recently cut by the Raiders, which means that the addition of Smith by the Broncos won’t count in the compensatory draft pick formula.

Antonio Smith started 16 games last year, in his only season with the Raiders.  He previously spent five years with the Texans and, before that, five years with the Cardinals.

In Denver, Smith will be reunited with former Texans coach Gary Kubiak and former Texans defensive line coach Bill Kollar.

  1. Does at least prove that in no way is he currently a 4 million a year player, the reason he was cut in the first place. Still, worth having in a back-up role at that price, so a good signing for the Broncs.

  2. O’Brien took away the individual pregame introductions. So easy choice for the Shaolin Master to not choose Texans so he can use his masks, and shtick.

May be over the hill but at the right price I would have been happy having him back.

  3. I like the signing. We are lacking lineman who are experienced in the 3-4. Antonio Smith probably won’t be asked to do much but he knows Wade Phillips’ system.

And all you Broncos haters, SHUT UP! The Broncos will have a top 5 offense and defense next year so CHILL….

  4. Great place for this clowns dog and pony act. Told you guys Kubiak would sign him. Kubiak was a loser in Houston and I see no reason why he will not continue losing in Denver. Peyton is going to smack himself many times this season for not retiring. Expect Denver to be pitiful. Wade Phillips, Kubiak and Antonio Smith? LMAO. This is stuff epic jokes are made from. Em way was a great player but his decision making skills Re fading into the sunset.

  5. Is it just me or have 1 year contracts become the new norm this offseason? Teams seem to be reluctant to sign free agents to long term deals. Personally I prefer it.

Sounds like a hater to me.. Kubiak’s Texans were pretty good for a few years with Schaub as his QB. He will have loads more talent in Denver, so I don’t see the validity of your absurd prediction..

  7. Mark him down for at least 9 offsides penalties when the opponents are facing 3rd and short late in the 4th quarter. He has that mastered.

    signed,
    Htown.

  8. To mike high city boss
Not a hater at all. Love the game of football. Kubiak was as good as his QB took him. Wade Phillips is a retread that’s been retreaded far too much. Antonio Smith? The man has been a mouthpiece for clowns since he played for the cardinals. Inrespect your thoughts but IMO the Broncos, with Manning , will have the same record if Sponge Bob was their coach I understand your respect for Elway and that’s understood but you have to admit, some of Elways decisions as of late are pretty much lacking. But enjoy the game as I do and please enjoy Peyton , as I do. No doubt one of the best that’s played the game. This will be Peyton’s last season, if he makes it through the whole season. Elway just took any semblance of an offensive line and removed it. Just sayin and as I said, not a hater just a realist. Enjoy the season

Last time I checked, the Elway/Kubiak combo did did pretty good. Elway has done well with personnel and gives Kubiak far more to work with than he’s ever had. How many undrafted free agents from your team make the probowl? Shoot, how many players at ALL from your team made the PB? Chances are good that the number is far lower than Denvers. Yeah, Elways decision making skills are fading. Division Champs since he took the reigns fool.

  10. Finish with top 5 offense? Check

Finish with top 5 defense? Check

Lose again early in the playoffs? Check

    Brock in 2016? Check

  11. LMAO!!! like after one 9-7 season the Texans were destined to go to the SB.. They feel like any ex-player would love to come back… haha only if they have no other options hahaha!!!!!

  12. To the Harvard professor ending his handle in kiss an blank blank

Have to be with a handle like that, a professor that is

Well let me see. My team ? I actually do not having a favorite team anymore. Love football love watching it and love going to 2 or 3 various games during the season. Guess that’s why I can be so objective. Could care less who wins which division or who goes to the Super Bowl. So I guess you are correct. Since I have no team none of my players went to the ProBowl or Super Bowl. And last time I checked It was over a decade ago Kubiak did anything good. When was he and Manning even connected ? Watch the season and get back to me. Oh. Good luck in your teaching skills.

  13. You can tell how good a team is by how much ridiculous hate they get in the comments! Clearly a lot of fans whose teams get regularly destroyed by the Broncos chiming in here. Trashing the team for signing a situational D-linemen who’s pretty good at penetrating and getting after the QB. Lots of stupid here!

  14. He played the majority of snaps, got three sacks and got roasted against the run while acting like a ninja in footy pajamas.

    It’s not hate, it’s fact.

  15. He definitely is poor against the run but can be used as a pass rusher. The Raiders did not utilize him correctly and his weaknesses were exposed. He was a good locker room guy and I wish we could have at least kept him for depth. Good luck in Denver, just not when you play the Raiders.

  16. The reality is that NFL teams use FAs as a way to gather information on their competition. They want to know what their competitions players capabilities are, their signs, signals, call outs, protections, et al. Basically all of these players are spies. Teams have got to be changing calls, signals and plays all the time. So I imagine Antonio will be telling all soon.

So Antonio is gonna tell the Broncos how Jack Del Rio coaches? That makes a lot of sense…. lmao

  18. O my my my just adding some depth what’s the harm in that, let’s not forget the draft, the best way to build is threw the draft so simmer down people.
