Dolphins sign former Giants linebacker Spencer Paysinger

AP

After an offseason spent watching linebackers leave, the Dolphins have finally brought one in.

The team announced they had signed former Giants linebacker Spencer Paysinger, who visited today.

Ostensibly, Paysinger replaces the depth/special teams role vacated by Jason Trusnik, who signed with the Panthers this week.

But after peeling away Dannell Ellerbe and Phillip Wheeler this offseason, the Dolphins clearly needed all the depth they can get at the position.

Paysinger was a 10-game starter in 2013 for the Giants, but didn’t get much time on defense last year, and now has the chance at more of a role.

  1. Good for Paysinger. The guy always played his heart out. Unfortunately he could never break into the starting lineup but he’s a good team player and gave his all to whatever they asked him to do. I wish him all the best.

  2. I’m guessin right now, Miami is on bargain cheap contract signing on free agents, until draft day, then cut days…

They being tight with money now since most of them went to Kong Suh…

  3. We lost Ellerbe – good!
Jelani Jenkins did an awesome job and earned a starting spot.
    We lost Wheeler – good!
Rated one of the worst LBs – we can only get better.
We have Jordan and McCain as fresh new talent.
    We lost Trusnik – good!
Hard worker on Sp teams, but wasn’t a solid LB at all.
We replace him with this new guy.
We still have Misi and Jordan Tripp as well.
Could we use an upgrade – sure!
But we are hardly thin at this spot.

  4. All the Dolphins need is a MLB. If the top 3 WRs are off the board, maybe CB Waynes or Trade Back and get Kendricks. This is the first time in many years the Dolphins don’t need a desperate pick. Best Player available. WR, MLB, CB and G.

I follow the Giants too and this guy is better than Trusnick. He will be a Special Teamer and good depth at OLB where he played in a 4-3. The Giants had no ijnjuries to the LBs, so Paysinger rarely played. Trusnick is slow and a liability in coverages when he filled in. The only reason he left was the Panthers view him as a competing Starter. Peysinger has more upside for less money.

  5. Remember back when this would have been a minor transaction note that no one even noticed? Here we are…commenting on it.

    The NFL is a sickness.

When is kickoff again? FIVE MONTHS!!!

Okay, tell me more about this Paysinger.
