Raiders sign J’Marcus Webb

After bouncing around the NFL for the last few years, J’Marcus Webb has found another home in Oakland.

Webb, a huge offensive tackle who last played for the Vikings, signed with the Raiders today.

The 6-foot-7, 333-pound Webb was a seventh-round pick of the Bears in 2010 and earned a starting job as a rookie. He also started all 16 games in 2011 and 2012. But the Bears cut him at the end of the 2013 preseason, and he’s struggled to find work since.

In two stints with the Vikings Webb has started only one game, and he also had a brief stop in Kansas City but never played for the Chiefs.

At the moment the Raiders appear set with Donald Penn and Khalif Barnes as their starting offensive tackles, and 2013 second-round pick Menelik Watson as the top backup. Webb will try to prove he belongs somewhere in that mix.

  1. This is the guy that Cutler humiliated on camera because he was a complete matador.

    Enough said.

  2. Please get basic facts straight: Menelik Watson and Austin Howard are competing for the right tackle position. Barnes is a backup.

  3. He’s Bryant McKinnie, except that McKinnie was actually good for awhile.

Key guy for the Ravens SB win.

  4. Good signing, the Raiders can always use another tackle to get called for holding and false starts

  5. Just gives them depth and someone to challenge Barnes Nothing major or something to get excited or to laugh at

As someone else pointed out Howard is moving back to RT where he belongs

The hole they do have is at RG which I’m sure they’ll fix in the draft

  6. Webb will be for depth. Austin Howard will kick back out to play right tackle, not Barnes. Barnes would be the starting right guard today but the hope is to fill that spot in the draft.

Actually, you don’t have to worry about Webb holding because that would mean he actually got his hands on the guy.

  8. Hey Reggie trade a 7 th rd pick to philly for the all pro RG Evans he can hold down the spot into we draft and develop the next guard . That would make too much sense though .

  9. Chiefs lost 3 O-line starters to FA last year and this guy still couldn’t find the field.

  10. He’s a complete turnstile lineman but I do have a ton of respect for him. Afterall, he is the only player to ever get Jay Cutler to show any emotion.

Has the same talent that the other JaMarcus had for you. Top notch!! Hall of Famer!! LOL.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Actually, at his current size, the other JaMarcus might be able to play tackle just about as well.

  12. He played for Musgrave and Mike Tice in Minn. They must have liked him enough to see if he has anything left. If he doesn’t, they cut him. No harm, no foul. The Raiders aren’t looking for him to start.
