LeGarrette Blount suspended for one game

AP

The Patriots will have to kick off their title defense without running back LeGarrette Blount.

The NFL announced Tuesday that Blount has been suspended for one game for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Blount was arrested last summer for marijuana possession when police stopped a car he was traveling in with then-Steelers teammate Le’Veon Bell. Blount’s case was resolved earlier this year when prosecutors dropped the charge after Blount did 50 hours of community service. Bell was driving the car and charged with DUI in the case, which was resolved with a sentence of probation, and faces a likely two-game suspension from the league.

Blount joined the Patriots for the final five games of the 2014 regular season after he was released by the Steelers and ran for 281 yards and three touchdowns. He added 189 more yards during the playoffs and scored three touchdowns during the 45-7 blowout of the Colts in the AFC Championship game.

  1. And Blunt, spelling appropriate and intentional, couldn’t do jack against a banged up Seattle Defense in the SB…but of course he partied on the sideline as if he actually did something to contribute to a win instead of being STUFFED!

  2. Meh even though he want convicted there have now been too many examples of Goodell doing so with players who are convicted of nothing to be able to complain about this.

Other than the usual “Goodell sucks” and “Off with Goodell’s head” sort of thing that is

  3. This should satisfy all the little steeler fanboys who were crying that Blount didn’t get punished, wahhhh wahhhhhhh

  4. well, there goes all that talk about how Goodell doesn’t do anything towards the Pats’ players because he’s Kraft’s homey.

Except he was a Steeler when Le’veon Bell got busted with him.

  6. At least the league has come to its senses that one joint does not merit a major suspension or fine. A one-game suspension is like a parking ticket in the overall scheme of things. It is a night home game and the Patriots will probably win that game going away.

  7. Poor oversight and coaching by the Steelers org impacts the World Champion Patriots?

    All is forgiven!

You can use the extra week off to shine up your new Superbowl ring.

  11. “The Patsie* Way”

Yeah because with something like half the players on every team minimum smoking these days somehow it only qualifies as “bad” or “cheating” when it’s a Pats player. SMH

That’s called a double standard by the way.

Not to mention he was a Steeler when busted, but we wouldn’t want to confuse your emotional whining with actual facts, would we?

  12. No Steelers fans were complaining about him not getting in trouble, we all knew he would eventually. I do remember some Steelers fans complaining how him going to the Patriots went down because it seemed premeditated by Belicheat. I know he cleared through waivers but what team would claim a player who walked out on his previous team and has a track record of being a locker room cancer? Nobody would. Its also funny the Patriots filed a tampering charge against the Jets, it seems like they did it out of spite and to draw attention away from their own tampering. When Blount was asked about it before the Super Bowl his response indicated it was planned, he didn’t even deny it, the Steelers couldn’t prove it and they aren’t petty enough to file tampering charges but it looks shady.

  13. Let’s see,,,make a million dollars over time or smoke a joint all the time?

As a Patriots fan I think I can say a thing or 2 about coming inches to something spectacular that didn’t happen, it is what it is and I’m glad they made it back to the show and won.

As for Blount, it’s a stupid suspension for a stupid violation, and he wasn’t even with the Patriots when it happened so there really is no point in haranguing Pats fans about it.

  17. Better a Patriot than a Steeler, for all involved.

Bell will be joining Blount in the penalty box. And it will be for more than 1 game. Steeler fan. That’s what happens when you hang around with a degenerate Steeler. In NEngland, Blount sticks to the program. How’d Harris and Tate work out as the starting RB tandem in the home playoff blowout to the Ravens? That had to hurt.

  18. Suspended for one game.

  48. To the guy saying that the patriots won more Super Bowls the last “1/3 century” than anyone else, you may want to look up the New York giants.
To the guy saying that the steelers cheated in 5 Super Bowls, exactly how did that happen? Did you actually see the 4 games in the 70s within a 6 year span? Watch them now and then come back and explain where they cheated in any or all games? And where did they cheat in their last win?

  49. “Not a Bronco fan…….ok Patsie boy?”

Not my fight but I did find it telling that you don’t want to disclose the team you support.

  50. As a Pats fan I find some (emphasis on the some) Patriots fans obnoxious, especially in the parking lot of Gillette Stadium, but I hold Belichick and Brady in high regard. It is beyond my comprehension how any football fan that loves the game can not appreciate what the Patriots do and how the have done it on a consistent basis over the years. It can’t be becase a select few fans tick you off.

Even though they were not my team, I held the Yankees, Lakers, Canadians, and Dolphins in high regard in my younger days, as I do the Spurs and the San Francisco Giants today.

If you are a Patriots hater it says more about you than it does the team.

You sound so angry that we are giving your so called “dynasty” none of the respect you crave! 🙂 Too bad. You EARN our respect, you don’t cheat to get it.

I knew the Steelers were cheats long before the Patriots were good. I read some of Steve Courson’s book. I know other coaches were calling the Steelers cheats. I know Bradshaw admitted and apologized for his and his team’s use. As I told you before why would he do such a thing if he had nothing to apologize for?? I know why, do you? The Steelers and the Raiders… the two most loathsome cheating franchises in sports. You keep good company. 🙂

Here’s a radical thought. EARN YOUR TITLES first. Be the best team on the field instead of cheating. Once you do that THEN compare your team to the World Champion Patriots. Not before.

I mean, it’s not rocket science. It can’t be that hard a concept to understand can it???

  62. Everyone knows there’s no homer like a Patriots fan, but I must have been giving Patriots fans too much credit. It is the height of hilarity to see all the homers thumbs up a comment by another homer because they are dumb to understand the point of the insult “the Patriot way”. Here’s a hint homers, it has nothing to do whatsoever with when Blount was busted.

  63. There is no doubt that Blount simply wanted to play for a team who earns their titles on the field, not cheat or pay off refs to get them.

  64. If Blunt is suspended, or released, or traded, or relegated to the bench or deactivated for a game it won’t matter; they’ll plug in Jonas Gray, or Branden Boldin, or James White, or Tyler Gaffney and still whip whoever play that week. Especally if it’s Pittsburgh.

    —————————————————————
Of course it’s common knowledge; the Steelers invented it, and former players have acknowledged it and written books about it.

  67. Blount is being punished for smoking pot while he was with the Steelers. He did not do it after if he was acquired by the Pats. You losers are blaming the Pats for his past actions.— The Patriots are the champions. You can’t get over it and you losers never will. We feel soooo smug.😘

  68. Alvin Roy. That is the name Steve Courson dropped to CONGRESS in 2005 as to who supplied the steroids that fueled the Steelers Super Bowl wins of the 70s. And team doctor Richard Rydez was busted in 07 for purchasing 150000 dollers worth of HGH and testosterone. Any Steeler fan that whines about cheating understand that your house very big and made of extremely thin glass. Throw stones at your Own risk.

  69. Lol I’m not angry at all. I’m very secure about my team and their reputation, Unlike Pats fans I don’t need to pound my chest and brag about my team because there’s no doubt, and even rival fans have some level of respect for the Steelers. Let it go because you sound silly.

  70. The Patriot way is not an insult… It’s a culture that produces a wining formula on a consistent basis…say like 14 years & counting
The trollers that are on here try to twist it to serve their jealousy of their teams inferiority at an organizational level…. The Patriot way is a terminology the sports media came up with to describe that culture of wining that other franchises strive to achieve but fail to accomplish for the most part due to poor ownership, coaching, drafting, & execution to name a few of the reasons they can’t compete at the high ongoing level the Patriots maintain in the salary cap era ther is suppose to create parity….
For instance with Blount being suspended this year for his actions while a member of another(Steelers), not the Patriots as many can’t seem to grasp, due to the depth the Patriots have (also another example of the Patriot way) the next man up can take Blounts place in the lineup & still produce at a high level to sustain the TEAMS success: either Gray, Gaffney or Cadet for example… That’s the Patriot way!!!

  71. I’m actually hoping to see Tyler Gaffney this year… He was on IR all last year with the Patriots who picked him up off waivers from the Panthers that originally drafted him in the 6 th round& tried to pass him thru waivers but Bill B opted to pick up & stash for this year… Grat coaching move… Again the Patriot way!!! Love it!!
    Go Pats!!!!

The NFL doesn’t fix games but the NFL does do everything in their power to ensure that popular marketable franchises continue success and the bottom feeders continue to stay on the bottom. The Browns and Lions have known this fact for years.

Hope is a very powerful human attribute to keep fans to wait for next year.

This is Gordon’s third suspension in 3 years…

If Blunt is suspended, or released, or traded, or relegated to the bench or deactivated for a game it won’t matter; they’ll plug in Jonas Gray, or Branden Boldin, or James White, or Tyler Gaffney and still whip whoever play that week. Especally if it’s Pittsburgh.

I would have mixed feelings about the idea of the Patriots playing the Steelers in week 1.

We all know will be an easy win for the World Champions so there’s that. But as a man of integrity and love for the sport I feel that teams that have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they can’t win titles without cheating or paying off the refs…. they simply don’t deserve the prime time slot to face the World Champions. Put a more deserving team in there with integrity and let them get the shot at the champs.

Yup. Couldn’t say it any better. I’m sure $150K of HGH wasn’t for Rydze’s medicine cabinet.

Steelers haven’t won a single playoff game since Rydze was indicted. That is their true talent level without cheating. And we’re supposed to respect that? LOL. Nah

  79. So, Blount getting busted for pot while a Steeler is somehow evidence of the Pats “cheating”?

And somehow the Pats orchestrated a plan where the Steelers would release Blount and then claim him after he cleared waivers? An ingenious plot which required him to 1) be released and 2) clear waivers?

Isn’t that just called a personnel transaction?
