Raiders sign Packers safety Sean Richardson to RFA offer sheet

There has been very little movement in the restricted free agent market lately and none this year, but the Raiders have broken the seal.

Via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Raiders have signed Packers safety Sean Richardson to an RFA offer sheet.

The Packers will have a chance to match, but would get no compensation if they don’t, since Richardson was an undrafted rookie and the Packers tendered him at the lowest level.

Richardson recovered from neck surgery to become a regular contributor for the Packers down the stretch, so it will be interesting to see if they’re interested in matching any deal.

  1. Congratulations Sean Richardson!

You finally get to move on to better things, than playing for that depleted Green Bay Franchise.

Even if it is the Raiders, anything is an upgrade at this point.

  2. Why are there so many Viking’s trolls? They have never won anything and haven’t even bee respectable in a long time. I’m not an NFC North fan but it seems like that if they want to rival the Packers, they need to win a few games first.

Almost no cost to matching him, so I’m sure they will.

TT’s penchant for not spending money might be a reason why they don’t.

Your lack of knowledge of the NFC North is very apparent.

The Packers went 25 seasons without scoring a TD in the playoffs of a full regulation season.

The Vikings were in the playoffs as recently as 2 seasons ago, won the NFC North in the 2009 season and were in the NFL Championship game in 2010.

If that is not being “respectable in a long time” – then what does that say about the Packers organization from the late 60’s to the early 90’s?

  5. The Vikings are obviously head and shoulders a better team than the Packers because they *never* choke in the postseason.

Except one thing — they never *get* to the postseason.

Update all of us on the number of championships the Vikings have won….
    GB 13
    Minnesota 0
And for all the Vikes fans who talk about choke jobs, the Vikings have four classics to reference themselves.

But they didn’t bother trying to sign Tramon Williams.

Tramon is 30+ why would go after him?? Anyways. The raiders had a lot of dead useless money, no draft picks, and couldn’t sign free agents for like 2years. The sooner they can start loading up the team with 1,2,3,4 rounders the sooner we’ll be a great football team. our OL, although not elite, finally has some depth, some notable names. And that’s how you start a good football team, in the trenches. Which is why I believe we won’t got a star WR in the first. We have no one on our Dline I feel like we should aim towards that part of our defense this draft. I wouldn’t mind amari or Kevin white, but an elite edge rusher is needed and helps out our entire D. GO RAIDERS!

  8. Someone at Packers Central tapped into Reggie’s Silver and Black “edginess” factor – this move has a surliness attached to it. Maybe the Cobb negotiations?

I believe one would call Tramon “Over the Hill”, great player, still a decent corner, but slowing down and on the decline. Packer have a lot of young CBs, plus a couple they will get in the draft. With all of the rule changes, speed and youth are key at that position.

  10. Don’t know much about this player but I’m sure input was solicited from C-Wood and if he approves that’s good enough for me.
    The climb continues.

  11. you’ve hit rock bottom to come to 3-13 team with a tarped dump as a stadium with tired pudgy want to be tough guy Raider trash!

Remind me who won the NFL Championship Game in January of 1970?

The Vikings have lost 4 Super Bowls, but they were never leading by 12 points with less than 5 minutes to play and managed to choke away a win like that.

There’s a difference between losing a game and an EPIC choke job…

Williams is old, but Oakland needs a solid veteran at corner. Hayden and Carrie are unproven and have injury concerns.

Only a desperate fan would claim some lame title when they actually lost in the Super Bowl?? Are you serious right now? Man you guys have no ammunition. The Vikings futility is over 50 years twice as long as any Packer drout. 13 titles to 0 ouch!

It’s almost as perplexing as why there are so many Packer trolls who feel the need to troll every Vikes article if they are indeed superior as they claim to be.

  16. It amazes me that the Packers contend every year. This front office is among the best in football. And Packer fans are exceptionally deserving of all the accompanying success.

    Better football.

    For better people.

  17. The most shocking part of this development is that the Raiders beat out the Vikings in this move. Never an ex-Packer they don’t like. They were even interested in AJ Hawk for crying out loud.

  18. “Who doesn’t want to leave the perennial playoff losing sisters to the east? Literary jumping over each other to leave”

As a Vikings fan you don’t have to worry about this, do you?

PS. Every team in the playoffs that doesn’t win the SB loses in the playoffs.

  19. You know why you don’t see as many Bears fans trolling the Packers, cause they actually have something in their history to be proud of. Vikings just happen to be in our division, they want to be us, they want to be worthy of sharing the same field they aren’t. We’ve only one rival in this division and it ain’t in Minnesota and they earned it; The Vikings have earned nothing but humiliation and ridicule.

Guess I`ll have to agree with you. Hard to choke any of those games away when all 4 were over before they started.
Did they ever have the lead in any of those blowouts?

The Lions also have some history, as they won 3 NFL championships when winning that game made you champions of football. It boils down to the fact that the inept, pathetic franchise from Minnesota is the only one in the division to never win anything. But they do have all of those playoff appearances and division titles and those trump everything else. Just ask their fans.

  22. Packer fans say they don’t sign players over 3o your QB is over 30 and Nelson turns 30 next month

  23. Packers won their first “championship” in 1928. There was no championship game, they were awarded the wooden trophy for having the best record, even though teams didn’t play the same number of games – they played 14, other teams played 8, other teams 20, etc.

Congrats. Those were some hard fought battles against the Melville Mud Dogs, and Westosha Wingdings.

  24. I think the Pack should match then return the favor by signing WR Andre Holmes to an offer sheet. They dont need another WR but then again they dont have a WR his size either.

The Viking and their trolls are like those little ankle biter dogs who yipe and yipe all the time. Sure they are annoying as hell but they’re not a threat to anyone at anytime.

  25. How Reggie’s mind works
… player coming off an injury (check)
… player from a Packer roster (check)
    Sign him

Seriously how does this guy still have a job … 31 teams are loving it.

Hilarious, that’s why our highways and parking lots are cluttered with cars with Illinois and Minnesota plates every single summer.

Well, you know the Men in Purple have been hanging around the Lambeau dumpsters most of the off season. They turned a few door knobs trying to find some fresh roster players but were thwarted by common sense.
    6-10 can’t be far behind.

Kudos to the Raiders for just doing business as usual. Like everyone else does it.

Actually, the gbay choke job i the biggest choke in NFC Championship HISTORY.

They were ahead 16 points, and HAD THE BALL.

You can thank McChoke for that one.

  30. “Packer fans say they don’t sign players over 3o your QB is over 30 and Nelson turns 30 next month”

Are you really this dense? QB’s are obviously the exception. And Nelson is already signed. They are always one of the youngest teams in the NFL. It’s their strategy. Doesn’t mean they NEVER sign them. But more often than not, when push comes to shove, they will let an over 30 player walk rather than re-sign, unless it’s a player like Charles Woodson or Julius Peppers.

  31. The Packers were ahead by 12 points and had the ball. It amazes me how many idiots there are here who don’t even know what the hell they are talking about.

  32. “Suddenly, Sean feels that choking feeling disperse the further away from gbay he gets.”

Yeah. Oakland chokes far less. Because they are never in contention to win anything in the post season while sitting on their couch.

  33. Ted will let him go. I’m sure it’s more than a minimum contract with some guaranteed money. He’s an injury risk, maybe a career ending risk. He’s definitely a good special teams guy. He was starting to learn what it takes to be an NFL d-back. Sorry to see him leave, but that’s the business side of it.

Actually, I believe you are thinking of ’29, the year of the Packers 1st Championship.

Though it’s true the NFL awarded the team with the best winning percentage the Championship that year (Packers 12-0-1), it’s hard to argue that they didn’t deserve it.

Also of note, the Minneapolis Red Jackets went 1-9, and fell a wee bit short of the Pack.
Just goes to show you, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

  35. The only worse place to land would be Minnesota, the armpit of the NFL. THE BIGGEST CHOKERS IN THE LEAGUE!!!0-4 in the Super Bowl, the mighty Packers have won that many!

  36. The deal is for one year at $2.55 mil. The Packers really like Richardson, and stuck with him through his neck-fusion surgery. But I don’t think they’ll match him at that price.

  37. I get it’s been a very long winter in Minnesota and there’s not much to do, but why are so many of these posts highjacked by Vikings supporters? I get the interest from Packer fans.

Sean Richardson measurables are impressive, 6-2/216, plus he’s only 25yrs old. The Raiders have cap room and need to spend. It’s depth and insurance without loosing draft picks. Nothing more, nothing less.

  38. Yeah, we choked last years NFCCG – who cares? The only fans that still care about the NFCCG are Viking fans.

And to say that the Vikings haven’t had some royal choke jobs is selling yourself too short.

Gary Anderson ring a bell? Indeed, his choke job in the NFCCG was voted as the Vikings MOST MEMORABLE FOOTBALL MOMENT. That’s right Viking fans, your biggest football moment was a monumental choke job from a kicker.

OR…. how about Brett Favre’s “this isn’t Detroit man!?!?!?!! This is the Superbowl,” moment? Packer fans even tried to warn you on that – we’d seen Favre choke away playoff games far too often – but you were too excited about being able to hold it over our heads that you “stole” our “best” player that you wouldn’t listen to what we told you was going to happen.

And don’t try and answer with: but your’s was a bigger choke job. A choke is a choke.

    But who cares?

  39. Though it’s true the NFL awarded the team with the best winning percentage the Championship that year (Packers 12-0-1), it’s hard to argue that they didn’t deserve it.
    ————————————-
I see what you did there, wafflestomp. It wasn’t just that year, it was that way for the first 3 of GB’s “championships”. I would imagine most packer fans who spout off about 13 titles don’t even know that tidbit.

  40. Solid back up and good ST player but 2.5 million is starter pay and he is not worth that so good luck with the Raiders Sean
