Steelers keep up with their neighbors, visit with Marcus Peters

AP

The Steelers obviously need to get younger and better on defense.

And they may be willing to overlook certain things to achieve that goal.

The Steelers announced three pre-draft visitors today: Stanford cornerback Alex Carter, Washington cornerback Marcus Peters and Virginia linebacker Max Valles.

Peters is an intriguing case for a number of reasons, not the least of which is Pittsburgh’s need to freshen up the secondary.

Peters has already admitted he deserved being kicked off the team at the University of Washington, after multiple infractions involving disagreements with coaches.

But the Steelers will want to find out for themselves where he stands, and make their own judgment. If they can convince themselves they can work with him — or that he’s talented enough to take the chance, he’d be an interesting addition.

The fact Peters has already visited the Ravens should make them even more careful to do their due diligence.

  1. Given the fact that the Steelers are almost exclusively bringing in DBs for a pre-draft visit, I guess fans can at least take solace in the idea that hey, Tomlin got tired of seeing passes to wide open receivers all last year, too.

  2. You know what he will say. The only thing he can say. Don’t go there. Its not worth it!

  3. The fact Peters has already visited the Ravens should make them even more careful to do their due diligence.

The old Sicilian proverb: “Keep your friends close, but your cornerbacks closer.”

  4. “The fact Peters has already visited the Ravens should make them even more careful to do their due diligence”

Exactly. Beware. I’d be happy with Peters though.

  5. For The Ravens to get to, and go further in the playoffs, they knew they had to beat their main competition. That was the Steelers. In the last 3-4 years, they have accomplished that. Now, it looks like the Steelers are looking up to The Ravens.

  6. Have the Steelers drafted anyone in the last few years who amounted to anything? Jarvis Jones was a total bust. Bell has one foot in the clink. The rest are a bunch of duds. Ravens are going to have fun this year setting up decoys. My guess is that the Steelers will just add to their IR list.

  7. @Tebowed. Don’t forget Shazier. Not a LB, now maybe a safety? In reality, he’s really a track star.

  8. Tebowed continues to make me laugh. He must be murder with the other kids on the playground at lunchtime. Bell? One foot in the clink? Seriously, he was one of the two or three best backs last year, and this is the best you can do?
That said, I find the Steelers defensive drafting strategy to be about as funny as Tebowed’s rants here.

  9. How can the steelers look up to the Ravens when the Ravens finished behind the steelers for two straight years. Sure the Browns 1.0 finally beat the steelers in the playoffs after 4 failed attempts, but I would not say the steelers are looking up to the Ravens by any means….yet.

  10. How do you justify a guy breaking his wrist in his second season as a bust? (Jarvis Jones) Rookie linebackers rarely succeed under LeBeaus system and Jones never had a chance in year 2.

Typical Steelers fan. Always bringing up the past.

  12. Steelers looking up at The Ravens? Steelers -3-6 in the last 4 years. Ravens – 5 playoff wins, including 1 against the steelers, and a SB. Steelers? no playoff wins in the last 4 years. Now, spin it any way you want.

Your first comment was the steelers looking up to the Ravens….you must be joking! Have you forgotten the statue out front and an elevator video? The Steelers don’t look up to criminals….you may…. But hey you are from Baltimore you know no better.
