The Packers are adding a third quarterback.

The club has signed former Panthers and Bears passer Matt Blanchard, agent Paul Sheehy said on Twitter on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Blanchard spent most of the 2014 season on injured reserve with Carolina after suffering a concussion in the summer. He was released with an injury settlement in December. Previously, he had stints on Carolina’s practice squad in 2013 and Chicago’s practice squad in 2012.

A Wisconsin-Whitewater product, Blanchard figures to get reps in the Packers’ offseason workouts. His chances of making the roster could well be tied to whether the team drafts a quarterback to groom behind starter Aaron Rodgers and top backup Scott Tolzien.
