Agent: Packers reach deal with QB Matt Blanchard

The Packers are adding a third quarterback.

The club has signed former Panthers and Bears passer Matt Blanchard, agent Paul Sheehy said on Twitter on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Blanchard spent most of the 2014 season on injured reserve with Carolina after suffering a concussion in the summer. He was released with an injury settlement in December. Previously, he had stints on Carolina’s practice squad in 2013 and Chicago’s practice squad in 2012.

A Wisconsin-Whitewater product, Blanchard figures to get reps in the Packers’ offseason workouts. His chances of making the roster could well be tied to whether the team drafts a quarterback to groom behind starter Aaron Rodgers and top backup Scott Tolzien.

  1. After Aaron Rodgers gets injured (Like he does every season)

All of America will get to see the incompetence of the Packers Organization, that Rodgers covers up.

They are a 4-12 team at best without him.

  2. Aaron Rodgers gets injured like he does every season. Yet he has only missed 8 games due to injury over his entire career. It amazes me how dumb Vikings fans are.

  3. “I guess having one bad Wisconsin product for a backup wasn’t enough.”

Sad that Tolzien would probably start over Teddy Bustwater in Minnie.

  4. The cheeseheads are preparing for an early shaaron Rodgers injury like usual just like they will be preparing for an early playoff exit like usual.#softqb#softteam.

  5. An insurance policy against the possibility of not drafting a late round QB.

Move along, folks, Just Ted Thompson doing his job.

  6. Vikings fans are jealous, and rightfully so.

No other team has lost more in the playoffs than the Vikings. In fact, no other team has more “one-and-dones” in the playoffs than the Vikings.

They are the definition of chokers…they have no idea how to handle success, as proven over the last five decades of mediocre football.

They grasp at straws, claiming their QB of the future has arrived, when–if you look at the stats–their QB is nothing more than Christian Ponder 2.0.

Quite the opposite, the Packers have 13 world championships, 4 Super Bowl rings, and are one of the favorites to win it this upcoming year, because they have the reigning MVP playing for them.

So, let us not laugh at these poor vikings fans. After all, they just want to act like they belong–when they quite clearly do not.

  7. Camp arm, nothing more, nothing less.

Love how the purple trolls just salivate over any Packer related article, no matter how mundane.
Run along now and get back to cheering for your child abuser.

  8. It is truly sad how much time some trolls have on their hands… Reality is, Blanchard is going to be a camp body during OTA’s. If he shows any potential during OTA’s then he may survive to play in the preseason where he likely would be on the practice squad.

Blanchard has accomplished more as a QB than most guys out there. He was a D-III All American and on three D-III National Championship teams at Whitewater. He was a solid QB there where they run a system that requires a mobile passing QB. So not a bad signing for a camp body.

Ok. Put up a Viking article and see how Packers fans go at it.
Read this site before opening mouth, please.

Sorry, but you’ll get no pity from me.

Most of your trolls have 4 or 5 (minimum) and spout nonsensical drivel because their moms don’t let them out of the basement.

At least we speak the truth. The truth hurts? So be it.

It’s funny to me that “fans” from a JV franchise like the Vikings would even comment on a packers article…
    ————————————————

As if packer fans, never make stupid comments on ANY vikings story?

    Look in the mirror pal.

  11. Meanwhile, Packer players who actually play in the games are on the annual team Tailgate Tour. In addition to attending events for Pack fans who live hours away from GB, they’ve also been visiting hospitals and helping serve meals at Veterans’ Homes.
    Good guys doing good works.
Makes me even a little prouder to be a fan of the team.

  12. “As if packer fans, never make stupid comments on ANY vikings story?

    “Look in the mirror pal.”

The difference is it is in RESPONSE to the Vikings trolls who are obsessed and extremely jealous (rightfully so) with their 10x more successful rival to the east.

Before you try to dispute that and say it’s actually the opposite of what I said….please tell me why any Packer fan would actually care about their irrelevant rival to the west that has nothing on them now or when you look at their history.

  13. Add this poor dude to the QB graveyard of the packers:

    Brohm, Harrell,Flynn,Young, and now Blanchard.

No doubt, gbay is the place to go and have your qb career pulverized.

The non qbs just get McChoked.

  14. Remember that the Packers once had another QB signed as a camp arm. That guy was Kurt Warner.

  15. Sad that Tolzien would probably start over Teddy Bustwater in Minnie.
    —–
Then I guess you have no worries if Rodgers does get hurt. Or maybe you haven’t seen Tolzien actually play.

  16. Yes. Graveyard backup QB’s. Shocking. Most teams have 12 year backups. Could be worse, you could be a team like the Vikings who make backup caliber QB’s their starter.

The other last 2 QB starters in GB have SB championships and MVP’s. That’s a choke that many fans would happily take.

  17. “Stop thinking it is only MN fans that do it.”

Oh Packer fans do it. But is is due to the overwhelming jealousy and trolling by Vikings fans upset about their irrelevant team. No Packer fan would sit back and not take retaliatory shots back at stupidity that you guys show.

  18. Camp arm, nothing more, nothing less.

Love how the purple trolls just salivate over any Packer related article, no matter how mundane.
    ——
I agree with the first part. And you must be joking on the second part. Packer fans are known for not only trolling Viking articles, but you troll the Vikings on articles about your own players!

  19. “Well at least they will have one QB on the roster who doesn’t have a girls name!”

Aaron is a man’s name. Teddy is a boys name, with talent that reflects it.

  20. Must be hard finding free agents when the only criteria is “hasn’t played on any other NFL team”. But not to worry. That $20 mil in salary cap space will increase the dividend for those stock owners. What? That’s not how it works?!?!

  21. Blanchard has accomplished more as a QB than most guys out there.
    —–
Ha ha ha. This is good. Look…everybody knows he’s just a training camp arm. Why must Packer fans always build up everybody? I’m guessing, but I’d say there are probably 60 QB’s on NFL rosters right now that have had more success than…what’s his name again???

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Even funnier when you realize that a Packer fan is calling the Vikings a “JV franchise”.

No other team in the NFC Central/North has won the division as many times or has made the playoffs as many times since they started divisional play in 1967.

Speaking of JV teams – the Packers are the only team in the NFL that went 25 years without scoring a single TD in the playoffs of a full regulation season.

The Vikings won as many playoff games in 1969 season than the Packers did from in all the seasons from 1968 – 1993 combined….

  23. “I agree with the first part. And you must be joking on the second part. Packer fans are known for not only trolling Viking articles, but you troll the Vikings on articles about your own players!”

While this would never happen due to the insane jealousy and small dog complex that Vikings fans have, but if you never saw the Vikings trolls post another comment on a Packer article, you wouldn’t see a Packer fan even give the fans of the lowly Vikings the time of day with nothing to retaliate against.

  24. “Ha ha ha. This is good. Look…everybody knows he’s just a training camp arm. Why must Packer fans always build up everybody? I’m guessing, but I’d say there are probably 60 QB’s on NFL rosters right now that have had more success than…what’s his name again???”

Nobody is though. If you weren’t an idiot you would know that he is referring to his college accolades.

“Whitewater went 45-0 and won three Division III national championships during Blanchard’s time at the school.”

  25. Kind of funny that guys with names like “minneanderthals” and “SKOL-LOLOL” are complaining about another team’s fans trolling them. Please tell us more about how you never give the Vikings a second thought.

  26. Great addition to the Packers. He was doing great in Chicago before he got injured.

  27. After Aaron Rodgers gets injured (Like he does every season)

All of America will get to see the incompetence of the Packers Organization, that Rodgers covers up.

They are a 4-12 team at best without him.

    ——————————————————-

and the Packers would still win the division

  28. “The Vikings won as many playoff games in 1969 season than the Packers did from in all the seasons from 1968 – 1993 combined….”

It’s funny (and sad) that A) You had to go back 46 years and b) The Minnesota Vikings have NOTHING to show for it and C) They are tied for the most SB losses in NFL history.

    SKOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

PS. I also find it funny that you conveniently used 1968 as your cutoff as to ignore the 5 championships in 7 years during the Packer dynasty. Bud Grant would roll over in his grave at that kind of stupidity.

  29. “Kind of funny that guys with names like “minneanderthals” and “SKOL-LOLOL” are complaining about another team’s fans trolling them. Please tell us more about how you never give the Vikings a second thought.”

I don’t give the Vikings a second thought at all. Just their idiotic fans whose trolling defies logic and common sense.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  31. Congrats Vikings fans, thanks to your obsession with the Packers you have been able to help accumulate 50 posts on a thread regarding the Packers 3rd string QB.

Glad to see someone that wears purple, be proud to accomplish something…
