Landon Collins: My dream is to play for Washington

AP

Come April 30, Alabama safety Landon Collins will be rooting for someone to trade up to the fifth spot in the first round of this year’s draft.

Collins is expected to be the first safety picked in this year’s draft and that will likely happen at some point in the first round, but he’s not seen as a prospect worth taking that early in the process. That would mean he would land somewhere other than his dream spot.

“I grew up a Redskins fan,” Collins said on NFL Network. “I was a big Sean Taylor and Clinton Portis fan. Those were my two favorite players, so I grew up seeing them play for the Redskins, so that would be my dream, to play there.”

Washington traded for Dashon Goldson and signed Jeron Johnson this offseason, giving them some needed bodies at safety after struggling to find players to fill the spots last season. That might not take them out of the running for Collins, but it’s a stretch to think they’d select him with the fifth pick. Good thing for Collins’s dream, then, that the team’s thought to be interested in moving down in the first round.

  1. Sorry but stupid Redskin draft pick days are over with. You don’t take safeties with top 5 draft picks.

Good enough safety play can be found in the the 3rd round and beyond.

  2. His statements will carry a lot of weight (far more than they should) with Daniel Snyder, because Collins is voicing a deep affinity with the Redskins that was born during Snyder’s “leadership.”

  3. Welcome to my nightmare
I think you’re gonna like it
I think you’re gonna feel you belong.
    A nocturnal vacation
    Unnecessary sedation,
You want to feel at home ’cause you belong.

He said his dream is to play for the Redskins, not “Washington.”

You guys actually change what people say now too???

  5. “I grew up a Redskins fan,” Collins said

they have a cure for that now . . .
    bourbon

  6. Hey, ya gotta be fan of something, you don’t need to defend it because you can’t explain it.

    I’m a Titian’s fan, I don’t need to defend it but I sure can’t explain it.

  7. After A “Surprising” drop

Commish: “With the 5th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, The Washington Redskins select …. Marcus Mariota”

    *Fast Forward*

Commish: “The Cleveland Browns have traded their 12th & 19th overall picks to the Washington Redskins for Robert Griffin & a 3rd round pick…. Washington is now on the clock”

Commish: “With the 12th overall pick the Washington Redskins select Shane Ray”

    *Fast Forward*

Commish: “With the 19th overall pick the Washington Redskins select Landon Collins”

Dream scenario that’s not likely, but word around is the Browns did try to trade a first for Sam Bradford of all QB’s … If that’s the case the Skins should be able to get both firsts for RG3.

  8. Listening to John Riggins and the skins winning the sb on the radio from the chairlift on a ski vacation is a memory I have. Doug Williams was the QB if I am not mistaken. You youngsters don’t realize they have been a powerhouse team in the past.

Dan Snyder has taken things down the drain a bit(a lot)

  9. It seems to me, from what Landon Collins said, that he fully understands that he is not qualified to be the 5th pick, and that is why he is hoping another team will trade with the Redskins, so they will pick later in the first round, and consider him.

  10. BTW not a skins fan, I was a Seahawks fan even back then growing up in Seattle so I know mediocrity when a see it. That is Washington now…but things can change, believe me.

    Dude – 4/20 isn’t until next week.
You’d be lucky to get anything more than a 5th rounder for Bob.

Would LOVE either of these! Hail to the REDSKINS!

  13. Hey, @realdealsteel,I think you misspoke. Eric Berry was the 5th pick in the draft and well worth it.

Joe Thiesman was the QB when The Diesel ran the touchdown against
Miami. Doug Williams was the QB against Denver and Mark Rypien the QB against Buffalo. Was a great Era to grow up a Redskins fan.. Can only hope times are changing

  15. Lol why in the world would the skins draft Mariota, he has the same skill set as Bob and the clown Skins Coach doesnt want to change the O for him. Now you would bring in a guy who hasnt been unders center in years to learn how to drop back and read a defense come on dude really?!

  16. if there is a statute of limitations on crimes (all except murder and terrorism in DC), there should certainly be one on team names. Am I right? Hail SKINS or should I say Redskins!

  17. I think Collins will be plenty happy contending for a title every year in Indianapolis.

  18. It’s a mistake for these guys to state their favorite teams. It simply is not good for business; before or after the Draft and their Gent should know this. Keep it to yourself and cheer for whomever you want. Remember: Kaepernick wore Dolphins gear… Just sayin’

  19. Washington Redskins, the team representing our great nations capitol and America’s team!!! That burns some of you, don’t it?

  20. Come on! No one actually *dreams* of playing for Washington. You might resign yourself to it, but no one has actually played for Washington for two years now.

  21. Thanks for the clarification. Doug Williams playing with Riggins seemed a bit wrong when I said it.

Theismann holy cow the memory is older than I thought. Also bringing up horrible images of his compound fracture in my mind that will never go away.

  22. Let me guess if Landon Collins had said he wants to play for anyone but Washington everyone would be saying this kid get it am I right?
