Romo pokes fun at Patriots over #DeflateGate

The stadium in which the Cowboys play their home games is hosting the Academy of Country Music Awards.  And Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo made an appearance.

Co-host Luke Bryan demanded that Romo throw him a football.  He did.

And then co-host Blake Shelton said, via WFAA, “Is this one of those deflated balls?”

“Blake, we’re the Dallas Cowboys,” Romo said with a smile.  “We have real balls!

Meanwhile, it’s been three months and one day since the #DeflateGate scandal emerged, with no one knowing when the report of the Ted Wells investigation will be released.

Within the next few days, one thing will be known:  The date on which the Patriots will visit the stadium in which the Cowboys play their home games.

Bob Kraft should be tweeting every single day to Roger Goodell about this. What a farce.

    ****

Which says more about the Pats front office than it does about Tony Romo. Perhaps that would seem clear if you happen to watch some of the football games the Pats don’t play in.

  4. This is the World Wrest…. NFL! It’s safe to say that the investigation won’t be released until after the draft. That’s their biggest dead time between the draft and everything getting under way. It’ll give everyone something to talk about.

  5. To be fair to Romo he just played along.
It’s not like he’s some bitter dingbat with a Belichick fixation.
I suspect the rules around what constitutes a catch are more of an interest to him than any other mini controversy.

  6. I’m sure Brady and Co. will be rolling in the aisles in Foxboro Monday morning as their offseason program starts. Love it when teams on the schedule do stuff like this. LOVE it.

  7. I was watching it and it was absolutely tongue and cheek. It was however, hilarious. I’ve said it since spygate though that the Patriots haven’t earned anything…they’ve cheated the whole time.

  8. BeliCHEAT and Shady Brady suspended for the year.

Guilty of deflating balls for that past 6 years.

    ****

  9. Give Romo a break – he was set up for a joke and hit it back

Can’t wait to see Kensil fired and the Pats pick up extra draft picks for this slander though

There’s a lot of jealous Patriots hating football fans already in mental institutions who have been whipped into a feeding frenzy by this too. They should get free meds for a year. It’s sad but the only joy they get in life is believing the fiction that the Patriots cheated.

They don’t even know what the word “retracted” means and to this day think that Spygate was about filming a Super Bowl walk through rather than just camera placement for the first quarter of the first game of the 2007 season following a new 2006 rule. Hardly cheating – and certainly there is no logical way a new 2006 rule impacts 2001-2004 Super Bowls, but they can’t grasp that logic.

  10. A pre scripted joke/bit to make the he haw hillbillys laugh at a country music award show … No big deal. Except when Brady stares lasers at romo after every One of his TDs when the Pats are running up the score on thanksgiving.

  11. I’m a Pats fan and thought that was funny. I do think that the NFL has made a mistake in taking so long to resolve an aspect of the pro game that wasn’t closely monitored/regulated and should just admit that they need to fix it going forward. End of story.

  12. They don’t even know what the word “retracted” means and to this day think that Spygate was about filming a Super Bowl walk through rather than just camera placement for the first quarter of the first game of the 2007 season following a new 2006 rule. ——

Obviously you’ve never listened to what happened with Super Bowl but you can continue to be a pats homer. Lord knows how fast you all crawl into a whole when billy and tommy leave

  13. Can any logical voice explain how a violation of a new 2006 rule in the first quarter of the first game of the 2007 season invalidates games played from2001-2004?

    We are STILL waiting

You generally can’t call yourself a “logical voice” if you can’t explain the logic of the Patriots “cheating” before a rule even existed

Feel free to continue to humiliate yourself – we enjoy it

  14. Cowboy fans get touchy since they haven’t been relevant in over 20 yrs hahaha!!!!! laughing at you not with you hahaha!!!

  15. Timebandit – enlighten us. What do YOU think the word “retracted” means?

I think this will explain a lot

Are you actually under the impression that Spygate is about filming a Super Bowl walkthrough?

  16. Tabloid stuff. C’mon get real. The draft is coming and we’re reading this tabloid stuff. I thought this was supposed to be a serious football website. Goodness gracious!

So for 7 years you’ve lived in a bitter, delusional bubble unaware that your views on spygate expose you as a complete moron. Too bad because you’ve missed the opportunity to enjoy the work of one of the best QBs of all time, one of the best coaches of all time and a franchise that sets the standard for how to operate. Lots of real NFL fans don’t like em, but still respect em.

  18. Brady is the GOAT so of course all the ignorant jealous losers
crawl out of their ratholes. As Joe Theismann said, and he actually knows a little more about football than the armchair imbeciles posting here. Brady is the greatest.

  19. dude, you have like, what, two playoff victories in 10 years vs being current champs?

  20. Oh you silly Patriots haters.

To think you actually think your team belongs on the same field as the World Champions 🙂

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    I was watching it

    ——————————————————————————————

And that’s where I started laughing & stopped reading.

  22. I like Romo.

A SB matchup between the World Champion Patriots and the Cowboys would be a treat. The team of the 21st century vs team of the 90’s. The World Champion Patriots will be there cmon Cowboys do your part.

  23. some writer for the show wrote the line and Romo just played along. that show has been advertised for a month, that joke was probably written 6-8 weeks ago. if the show was in Denver Manning would have delivered the line, in SD it would have been Rivers, etc…

some Pats fans here need to get a sense of humor and get your panties out of a bunch…

  24. They (CMA) got it wrong anyway….They were “real” balls. They just weren’t kept at the proper PSI level. It would have made more sense to have Romo say: ‘We, in Dallas, play with “proper” balls.’

  25. Spygate was about more than just the taping of Jets game in 2007 opener. Matt Walsh,Ernie Adams,Belichick,Brady,Godell ,and many others have the answers to exactly what went on. Godell handled evidence how he saw fit and he lost the trust of lots of NFL fans forever for that. IMO the other 31 franchises would gladly give up a first round
pick and 3/4 of a million dollars for 3 Lombardies. Well worth it. Their fans would have to battle with fans of other teams on message boards for years, but so what-3 Lombardies!!! ……..so worth it.
But now deflategate – I think Colts and possibly Ravens have to answer to this one. I said on another thread somewhere that it just isn’t feasible to me that Pats did or would do this. Can’t believe Wells report is taking 3 months plus.
What -you think next week NFL is going to announce schedule on Wednesday, have Pats go to White House on Thursday, and then suspend Belichick for certain amount of games including season opener in Foxboro on Friday?…..lol – I think not.
I think the longer this drags out the more Indy needs to worry.

  26. I think Romo is one of the most under-rated QBs in NFL and this is coming from a Pats fan. This whole article is overblown. Romo just went along with the joke. Just because Romo hasnt won many playoff games or SBs is less about his ability and more about the bad D he has historically had. Look into how many games Dallas has lost after going into the 4th quarter with a lead…i saw some crazy stat some time ago…

    All said, go PATS!!!

  27. The biggest compliment fans of teams outside of New England can give us is to call us cheaters. What they are basically saying is that the only way they could imagine their team winning like the Pats would be to cheat. So they assume the Patriots must cheat.

Which is a shame because your missing the greatest dynasty in the history of the league. But your loss.

Thanks for the compliment anyway. This year Tom’s going to win one for the thumb. Then he can start on his other hand.

  28. You could actually write a pretty decent country song based on the ups and downs of Tony Romo’s career.

    Tony’s Third Turnover

    Tony put his head down
Gettin’ ready to take the ball
    Coach’s face had a frown
Cause he knew just as well as y’all

    It’s time for Tony’s turnover
The third one he threw today
    Now the game is over
And there’s nothin’ more to say …

  29. YEAH IT’S TIME FOR GODDELL TO STOP KISSING ROBERT KRAFT’S REAR-END, AND TAKE AWAY SOME DRAFT PICKS FROM THE PATRIOTS, OR SUSPEND BELE-CHEAT OR TOM SHADY!

  30. The Patriots have had so much abuse over the last few years for a number of let’s just say unsportsman like activities and only last week they just had one of their players locked up for life, it’s is no wonder they get upset when people poke fun. They just demand a little more respect after all they have grabbed a couple of rings during this time. They are a franchise that puts great importance on win at all costs, that’s the way they like to do it so they will have to put up with the tarnished reputation thing.

  31. The last time I looked at the record book, Tom Brady hadn’t won a single Super Bowl. The Patriots, however, have won 4 and lost 4.
Quarterbacks don’t win Super Bowls….Teams win Super Bowls. As important as the QB position is, measuring any one players success based on the number of rings in their possession is just ignorant. Is there an intelligent football fan out there who thinks Bradshaw was better than Marino? Eli better than Peyton? Ummm….No. I would argue that Brady is better than Romo, but 4 rings vs. 0 rings wouldn’t come into play. The Pats simply have had better teams than the Cowboys for the bulk of each of their careers.

  32. LETS START THE DRAFT ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!

MOVE THE DRAFT BACK TO EARLY APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. They wouldn’t release the report of the Ted Wells investigation the same day of the schedule release, to move the focus away from the scandal, would they?

  34. Haha! You all are cracking me up, that skit was totally written. It was for entertainment value don’t be so gullible… It was comedic irony that was pre-written in order to get the crowd to cheer and give the viewers at home a laugh. I got the joke and thought it was funny, life goes on…. for most of us

  35. Brady has four rings in salary cap era GOAT. All other teams wish they were as great as the Patriots. New England has greatest fans.

  36. If there was nothing incriminating in Spygate tapes then why did Goodell the lawyer destroy them. Show everybody it was nothing and move on.

  37. Thank you for the soundbite and bulletin board material Romo. You just made my job when we play the Cowboys THAT much easier- Belichick

  38. And the 90’s Cowboys would smash the Patriots. Doesn’t matter what players you took from any Pats teams. Sorry to break your hearts Pats fans.

  39. Me thinks a few on here are way more butt-hurt over his comments than the team he was poking fun at..it’s TV people, he said lines written for him to get a rise..apparently he did.

  40. Little bit sensitive pats fans? Perhaps your team’s ownership should petition the NFL for off field event referees. That Romo comment should be flagged for “bullying below the belt.”

    Lol @ those champioships*

  41. I always wondered what it would be like to play in the AFC east (easiest road to the playoffs). Now that Brady is getting old the slide begins, it’s going to be fun to watch!!!

  42. If Romo and her teammates actually grew a pair maybe they could eliminate their well-deserved reputation of not winning big games.

  43. Who cares, it was nothing but a joke, Romo didn’t write the joke, he just played along. Dang, you Patriot fan are too serious to rip on Romo. Enjoy your summer, you guys won the Super Bow.

  44. Lighten up girls it was a good response to some very light humor and not worth getting your panties in a wad.

  45. Forever Pats, Brady and Bellichick will be followed by the multiple cheating scandals with the obvious question…

“With a team caught so many more times cheating than anyone else, wonder what didn’t get caught?”

    ******************

  46. BTW, you can tell even the Pats’ and their fans know the truth when such a forced, predictable joke during a music award elicits such an out of proportion response.

    LOL

  47. No salary Cap gate (80’s 90’s Niners, Broncos), No Steroid Gate (Steelers 70’s),
No Stickup Usage throughout an entire career, negating Joe Montana’s and many other quality SF players status, (Thanks, Jerry Rice for FINALLY coming clean on your career long fraud).

Spygate was a joke and Deflategate is an even bigger Joke.

The greatest franchise since Lombardi’s Pack.
    NE PATRIOTS!!!!

  48. Well done on the writers. I assume Romo delivered it pretty well?

A decent joke. It definitely made me giggle a little.

As for all the angry Pats fans, seriously…

    1. It was the Country Music Awards, who cares?
    2. It was scripted.
    3. Our team just won the SB! Don’t be hatin’, be enjoyin’!

  49. First off it was a scripted joke if you wanna freak out on anybody for making fun of Tom Lady and the Pats then contact the writers. Second off to the guy who said Dallas hasn’t been relevant in 20 years I’m pretty sure since 1960 when the Dallas and the Pats became teams 20 years is the only amount of time the Pats have even been relevant and it hasn’t been without controversy. Third off the last time they played each other when Dallas was a worse team then they are now it was hardly a blowout and Brady needed a last minute drive to pull it out after Romo lead a late drive to take the lead and his only mistake was leaving too much time on the clock. When they play each other this year Greg Hardy will have lil Tommy shaking in his Ugg boots. I got alot of respect for Brady and Belickik and have always felt the cheater talk was overblown and BS but the Patriot fan base (not all but some) needs to get over themselves. I thought Pats fans were classy but with this it seems after beating Seattle some of y’all are acting like Seattles fan base. I’m just gonna assume its the bandwagon Pats fans and not the true Pats fans.

    __________________________________

Obviously YOU never listened to what happened. It was PROVEN to have been impossible for the Pats to have taped the Rams walkthrough. Which is why the paper that reported that they did was forced to print a retraction and an apology and had to admit they did not properly vet the story.

The real story is that the league gave the Pats media team permission to set cameras up to tape the Super Bowl for their media packages (which is not unusual for the Super Bowl) but the condition is the power packs for the cameras cannot be present until game day. And NFL security logs there were no power pack present during the walk through. So the reporter did see Pats staffers setting up cameras…he just didn’t do enough homework to find out that the cameras were not operational at that time.

  51. I hope Goodell is listening to all the people taking shots at the Pats and realizes he needs to send the strongest message of exoneration. Mr Kraft, don’t accept anything less.

  54. Just when Romo was looking respectable he participates in a jab joke that is low class and only proves the Cowboys will always be nothing more than a representation of Jerry Jones personality and low class

  55. This was obviously scripted.

As for the brigade that actually thinks Goodell is on the Patriots side; that makes no sense.
He has hurt the franchise at at every opportunity,it’s just that Kraft is too nice of a person to call him out. That is changing, however.
Goodell stupidly destroyed the rather innocuous spygate tapes, leading to wackadoodle conspiracy types and their theories.
Goodell let the bogus deflategate story fester out of control, without controlling his own people.
And he wouldn’t answer the question as to whether footballs have ever been tested at halftime or after a game. They haven’t…in the history of the league, apparently. If they had, they would know that footballs routinely fall below 12.5 psi during games.

  58. Hey Pats fans, your inferiority can is showing. Also, nothing was disprove about the Patriots recording the Rams practice, actually players that had intimate knowledge of schematics from the Rams support the widespread belief that they were spied giving the claim more credibility, not to mention the overwhelming amount of circumstances / coincidences that occurred in which only a blind Patriotshomer would ignore. It happened, everyone knows it.

    —————

It wasn’t that there was nothing incriminating. There was. The tapes showed what they were doing. Taping signals from the opposing sidelines with a camera man in plain site. That’s what they were punished for. The tapes were destroyed to prevent the Patriots from gaining further advantage after it was determined they broke the rule.

That rule didn’t exist before 2006. The commissioner sent out a letter and the Patriots did it anyway because Belichick thought he was within the rules if he didn’t use the tape in the same game. He was wrong. Punishment was warranted.

Talking about conspiracies and destroyed tapes is not objective. Goodell would have exposed anything else they found. They tried actually when they researched the alleged Walsh tape (that ruined the Patriots Super Bowl) but it never existed.

    —————-

You are right that it is the ultimate team sport. However, the guy who touches the ball the most and executes the offensive strategy gets more credit for wins then other players. That is logical.

I think you have the other point backwards. The reason Brady and Bradshaw are great is because they didn’t try to win on their own. They did what ever it took to win. That’s handed it off when needed, etc. In the biggest moments Marino, Manning and Romo have failed miserably at times. They forced a throw they shouldn’t and lost. The difference is Brady is a smart team player. Romo just started learning that this year.

    ————-
The 90’s Cowboys were very very good, at least for the first half of that decade. Lots of balance and that offensive line was out of this world. Have lots of respect for them.

Of course if you look at the whole body of work the Cowboys of that decade peaked fast and fell off just as fast. The Patriots have been consistently excellent for a decade and a half, in an era where that isn’t supposed to happen. There was no parity when the Cowboys won championships. The Bills and Steelers were the best of a decisively inferior AFC. The Patriots have beaten excellent opponents every single time they’ve won.

In other words… with THIS coach – and a proven track record of taking away the strength of the other team…. I don’t hate the Patriots chances in such a game. 🙂 Would be a great one.

  62. I woke up again this morning and asked myself, “Who won the Super Bowl last season?”…I remember, and then I smile. Repeat again tomorrow.

    ____

You mean the guy who had most of his success with a KNOWN CHEATER in Jerry Rice who openly admitted to using stickum to gain a COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE?

The faux pas by Rice has put a giant asterisk on Montana’s career, and mostly the 2 Super Bowls he won with Rice.

    Joe Montana** 49ers** #SalaryCapGate #StickumGate

  65. Two things patriots are going to see at away games. Astericks and deflated footballs.

    —————-
*Super Bowl champs, winners of more titles than any other NFL team in the last 25 years, 4 time NFL champions, 8 time AFC Champions, winners of their conference 13 out of 15 years, winners of more games this century than any other team, the paragon of excellence in the modern NFL, the team whose coach and QB have won more postseason games than any other that’s ever stepped on a football field.

I think that about covers the asterisk. 🙂

  66. The tapes were destroyed to prevent the Patriots from gaining further advantage after it was determined they broke the rule.

Except they didn’t. The rule says what they did is illegal if you use the information in game. Belichick did not do so. Therefore there should have been no problem. I mean that IS what the rule said. Oh that wasn’t the spirit of the rule? That’s the NFL’s problem, not the Patriots.

Too bad Goodell decided that rules don’t really mean what they say. What a joke. The whole spygate thing and the fact NE was punished for doing exactly what the rule said to it’s letter is the biggest crock in the history of sports. Can’t wait till the NFL gets a real commissioner. Hopefully after this deflategate mess that will happen sooner than later.

They are featured at the Oscars. They are featured on SNL. They are the most talked about team in sports. Patriots games are at or near the top of the ratings every week. Patriots articles are always featured in the most commented on this site. Over the last few years more Patriots merchandise was sold than any other team. The NFL changes its rules again and again so other teams can compete with the World Champion Patriots.

In short…. it’s obvious that the World Champion Patriots rule the world. 🙂

  69. It is going to be SOOO great next season when footballs will be tested every which way before, during and after games. High and might fans of teams will see that their team CHEATS too.

Gonna be funny to laugh at you guys as a Pats fan when you lean basic applied science.

  70. May have real balls but unfortunately the cowboys don’t have a real quarterback.

I just get sick of seeing Romo jump in front of cameras every time something is happening in ATT to remind everyone he is the cowboys QB. But who cares?

Until he wins a super bowl, he is just another undrafted QB who won some games but never a championship.

    Let’s all move on.

  71. Well…It looks like all the homers who hold desperately on to Brady’s jock by the skin of their lips are out in force as usual…….SMH!

Pats Homers> Don’t you talk about my QB, yours has never won a championship.

Grow up you bunch of panty waists! you sound just like the spoiled little brats you are. Now go see if mamma will give you a juice box!

Geez, what a bunch butt hurt whine aces! Stop the cheating at every damn turn and you won’t have to put up with this type of abuse.

  72. Hey, Tony, remind me again about the last time the Cowboys were in a Super Bowl. What was that? 1996? Twenty years, Tony. Know how many times the Patriots have been in the Super Bowl SINCE 1996? SEVEN times, Tony. No, they didn’t win them all, but at least they were there!

  73. Small thing, but telling– Everyone inside the NFL knows the Patriots are huge cheaters.

  74. I couldn’t care less what Romo has to say, but to the whiny loser fans who troll all things NE … win something, then talk smack.

  75. Give Tony Romo a video camera, a ball boy, Walt Coleman and then look the other way, then compare his results to Tom Brady.

I am not a Tony Romo fan, but to cheat and then not expect to get called out on cheating…ahhh ahhh….I don’t think I am a cheater. hahahaha

  76. Brady has twice as many rings then Romo has playoff wins, stay in your lane

Which says more about the Pats front office than it does about Tony Romo. Perhaps that would seem clear if you happen to watch some of the football games the Pats don’t play in.
    ____________

Romo had the best Oline in football, one of the best running backs and one of the best WR and still could only win one game in the playoffs. Tom Brady is twice the QB Romo could ever hope to be.
