If the Cowboys are on the short list of teams in the mix for Adrian Peterson, they’re working hard to slide off it.
Via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones tried to dash cold water on the rumors during a radio interview on 105.3 The Fan.
“I don’t see us using any picks to trade for veteran players,” Jones said.
Now, this could be misdirection nine days before the 2015 NFL Draft begins.
Or it could be a message to the Vikings to adjust their demands, which may be higher than some expected for a running back who doesn’t seem gruntled in Minnesota.
Or, it could just be Stephen being the reasonable one in the family again, declaring that they’re not going to break the bank for an aging running back, and stop a run of what have been reasonably productive drafts (especially at the top).
As soon as the Cowboys let DeMarco Murray walk, and only replaced him with a Darren McFadden, the Peterson link was a set of dots too easy to connect.
But Jones clearly wants the message out there that they’re not trying to connect them.
