Hakeem Nicks is heading to Tennessee for his next chance

The Titans have been selling the possibility that they might draft a wide receiver in the first round.

But they’re buying free agents, which would seem to suggest otherwise.

According to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, teams which were interested in veteran Hakeem Nicks have been told he’s signing with the Titans.

While Nicks isn’t the kind of player which would reasonably preclude you from an Amari Cooper or a Kevin White (both of whom visited the Titans, along with a number of other top receivers) it does give them a pretty solid depth chart.

They picked up the 2016 option on Kendall Wright, and signed a solid veteran in Harry Douglas to go along with a talented group.

For Nicks, it’s another chance to re-establish himself, which didn’t go so well in Indianapolis last year for reasons he says he’s beyond.

  1. I didn’t think Nicks was bad last year. Wasn’t great, but he was a breath of fresh air consider the guy he replaced (Darrius Heyward-Bey).

  2. Dude has not been the same since Barron (I believe) stepped on the back of his knee while he was having a 200 yard game vs. the Bucs in ’12. Attitude might need an adjustment but he was never a bad guy or anything. Hope he does well, wish he had held out before ’12 and made himself some more $$ before than injury.

  3. They have a good group of “possession’ WR’s but they still need that “Home run” threat on a deep ball IMO.

  4. As a Giants fan, I wish him the best of luck. It was only a few years ago that Nicks was one of the top 5 WRs in the league. But he suffered some injuries, and they affected him mentally. You could see he was playing not to get hurt and would not go across the middle. 5 years ago one couldve argued that the group of WRs taken in round 1 that year had the potential to be the best ever with Nicks, Maclin, Harvin, Crabtree, Britt, and of course DHB. Now it might be last year’s group.

  5. Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Julian Edelman, Mohamed Massaquoi, Brandon Tate, Austin Collie, Johnny Knox, Tiquan Underwood and Kevin Ogletree also came out of that class.

Now that was deep class for the position.

  6. Typical Titans signing…Another teams castoff. Never do we acquire a team’s best asset. Another horrid signing that this franchise’s management will get us excited.
