Vikings continue to insist they won’t trade Adrian Peterson

AP

The Minnesota Vikings continue to insist that Adrian Peterson is not going anywhere.

Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said today that despite widespread speculation that Peterson could be traded, that’s simply not going to happen.

“We can just end the Adrian Peterson stuff. Our position has not changed since all of the statements we made down at the owners’ meetings. Adrian Peterson is under contract, his suspension was lifted, we’re looking forward to having Adrian Peterson as a Minnesota Viking in 2015. That’s the end of the story. That’s it,” Spielman said.

Spielman reiterated comments from coach Mike Zimmer that the Vikings expect Peterson to be their starting running back this year.

“I think coach Zimmer made it clear that we have no interest in trading Adrian Peterson. We don’t. Adrian made a mistake, he’s paid a price for that mistake, but I think if this organization didn’t believe in Adrian Peterson, he probably wouldn’t be here today. I know we believe in Adrian Peterson, but I also know that we’re a pretty good football team with Adrian Peterson in our backfield as well,” Spielman said.

This might not be “the end of the story” as Spielman claims, but it certainly seems like the story is going to end with Peterson in a Vikings uniform in 2015.

  1. Just holding a good man down. That ain’t right. If a player isn’t happy, then free the chains.

  2. Of course they won’t trade him. There isn’t a team stupid enough to trade for a $15M/yr 30yr old fumble machine with an injury and child beating history.

  3. The Vikings are without a doubt the most inept franchise in the history of sports both on and off the field. Whatever the Vikings decide to do with Peterson you can rest assured it will be the wrong decision.

  4. But, but, but whatever will the media and Packer fans do with this continued unwavering refrain?

  5. Fumble machine? I doubt he has had 10 fumbles in the past 4 seasons.

Go ahead and take shots at the Vikes (even us fans do, afterall) but come on- at least get your facts straight and don’t be a moron about it.

Tell me again about all of your championships when there were 8 teams in the league and how you buy $250 pieces of paper to frame…..

  6. “I think if this organization didn’t believe in Adrian Peterson, he probably wouldn’t be here today. ”
    —–

Last I checked Mr. Spielman, he is NOT there today. He skipped OTA’s and will skip everything else until the day he is force to show up in Week 1. He will then have a nagging “hamstring injury” that will last through the entire season.

  7. after reading the other articule, spielmans indirectly saying hey, we have 7 picks and want 10 this year. give me three picks and you can have him.

  8. Four franchises – the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars – have never even been to the Super Bowl. The Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, San Diego Chargers, and Tennessee Titans have each lost a single Super Bowl, while the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles are 0-for-2.

The biggest conference winners that can’t seem to close the deal are the Minnesota Vikings and the Bills, who have both been to four Super Bowls with zero championships.

  9. Are they forgetting that they kind of left him out in the cold while dealing with his issues….even Peterson and his agent mentioned that he got no support from the team.

Conveniently, I’m guessing AP may have 500 yards rushing this season and a TD or 2….then the team won’t be able to get rid of him fast enough.

  10. I have to say, I’m a little bit disappointed that Rick doesn’t want to trade Peterson. Because if he put his mind to it, he would get a haul that nobody thought was possible. A wise man once said, “Rick Spielman is a magician.”

  11. Stop the insanity….please.

We’ve had enough of the trade “speculation”. There are other stories out there, really!

  12. Spielman is an idiot – he continues to prove it. Peterson wants out, and there are teams that would love him – even crappy teams. The Vikings could get several mid-round picks for a guy that will be the rotten apple in the barrel come training camp. And then when his contract is up, Peterson bolts and the Vikings have nothing to show for it.

ZIGGY, DO NOT GET RID OF SPIELMAN. WE WANT HIM AND LOVE HIM!!!

    Still
    Keep
    On
    Losing!!! SKOL!!!!

  13. On October 12, 1989, the Vikings acquired running back Herschel Walker from Dallas. The final result of the trade gave the Vikings Walker, 3rd-round choice Mike Jones, 5th-round choice Reggie Thornton, and 10th-round choice Pat Newman in 1990, and 3rd-round choice Jake Reed in 1991.

Meanwhile, Dallas received Issiac Holt, David Howard, Darrin Nelson, Jesse Solomon, Alex Stewart, a 1st-, 2nd-, and 6th-round choice in 1990, a 1st- and 2nd-round choice in 1991, and a 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-round choice in 1992. Two of those selections turned into Emmitt Smith and Darren Woodson.

Walker’s performance fell short of expectations in his three seasons with the Vikings, while the Cowboys rode their draft picks to three Super Bowl victories in the 1990s. Something the Vikings couldn’t ever do in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s and 10’s

  14. The biggest conference winners that can’t seem to close the deal are the Minnesota Vikings and the Bills, who have both been to four Super Bowls with zero championships.

I could be wrong but I believe Denver was 0 – 4 before finally winning 2 in a row.

  15. It’s almost like the Vikes are trying to drum up interest by repeatedly saying this…
Vikes: “We aren’t trading AP, unless its for a sledgehammer offer. AP isn’t going anyplace”

Raiders: “We’re luke warm interested, and we have tons of money. We might be interested if you are reasonable”

Vikes: “AP plays for us or no one.”

Raiders, rest of the league: “Eh, ok. whatever. See ya, we’re no longer interested”

Vikes: “AP belongs to us, we aren’t trading him”

Vikes: “Do you hear us????? AP IS OURSSSS”

Lol, on draft day, Vikes will be like: “Anyone want to trade for AP?”

  16. I wonder why nobody believes Spielman.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman can’t say it enough: Percy Harvin will remain in Minnesota, and he’s not going to discuss contracts in public.

Six days after initially telling local reporters exactly that, Spielman came to the NFL’s annual scouting combine and was asked to address the situation again. He hasn’t budged.

Spielman says he has no intent to deal the receiver he calls a “dynamic playmaker,” and won’t even take phone calls about it. He intends to keep all information about contract negotiations internal, too, as he describes.

  17. This site is going to be very disappointed if and when Peterson is not actually traded.

  18. Nobody has ever heard Peterson say that he wants to be traded its all about the GREEN BACKS And Peterson wants to prove his doubters wrong!! So he won’t just phone it in

  19. Peterson is playing with fire because if nobody really wants him because of the huge contract, he may very well be cut if he has a bad attitude and NOBODY, BUT NOBODY will pay him the kind of money he is scheduled to make costing him millions. Be careful what you wish for A.P.

  20. Peterson’s days in Minnesota are limited. If he’s not traded on draft night, he’ll be dealt mid-season. And if not then, he’ll be gone at the end of the season as he’ll be due $15M as a 31-year old RB.
This looks to be at best a 1-year, $12.75M look to see how the offense works with he and Bridgewater.

  21. The trolls can finally be silenced. AP is staying in MN. He is an ass for what he did to his boy, and he paid dearly for it.

  22. All packer trolls heads just exploded and their nightmare is coming true.

Adrian will haunt the packers for the rest of his career.

A season full of packer games would give AD the rushing tile in a few years.

Nothing makes Adrian smile more than seeing the packers twice on the schedule.

The packer faithful was holding out for a trade, a release, ……something.

But, it is not to be.

    Hint: 4 wins 13 losses.

Peterson has won 4 games against the Green Bay Packers, that’s 4 in his entire career.
And half of those wins he needed a former Packer Hall of Fame QB to get the job done.

I think it’s safe to say that the Packers have been Peterson’s bane all these years.

  27. They’re insisting no trade is going to take place because Peterson will never cut his pay in half and the Vikings won’t accept two third round picks in exchange.

They are stuck with each other.

  28. To all the people that keep talking about 4 Super Bowl losses, the Herschel Walker trade, 27 playoff losses, etc…

You do realize that I’m 25 years old and basically all of that was before my lifetime. At some point you have to let it go since half the people playing on those Super Bowl teams are about to die of old age and the people who made the Walker trade are also old as hell.

Too bad I’m not a Bears fan because man was that awesome when they won their only Super Bowl in 1985 (oh wait, that was before my lifetime too).

Well then too bad I’m not a Packers fan because Aaron Rodgers will definitely win more Super Bowls than Favre did (oh wait he still only has 1)

So to recap, in my lifetime the Bears have done nothing and the Packers have won 1 Super Bowl that I was old enough to really remember and I’m 25.

And Obviously the Lions are completely irrelevant in all of this.

  29. Welcome to your nightmare, Packers…?

Well yeah, sure… if sweeping the Vikings on the way to yet another Division Championship is what you call a “nightmare.”

You should post more often… the rest of the Lavender Lunatics just might crown you their king.

  30. “You do realize that I’m 25 years old and basically all of that was before my lifetime. At some point you have to let it go since half the people playing on those Super Bowl teams are about to die of old age and the people who made the Walker trade are also old as hell.”

No we don’t realize. And who the hell cares if you are too young to witness all the suck that is the MN Vikings? You’ve gotten to witness your own chapter of ineptitude in the 25 years you have seen.

  31. Hold on. When I say that I’m looking forward to or expecting anything it means that all holds true unless something changes.

There is huge gap between “We expect” and what will be, so I say lets wait and see what happens.

  33. This from the same team that said they had no interest in trading Harvin right before traded him and said if Adrian wants out of Minnesota they will accommodate him. So there are just a couple examples of why you can’t believe a word that comes from the front office of this team.

  34. In the end, I think even AP will come to realize staying in Minnesota is the best thing. If he gets traded, it will look like he was shipped of for being a problem and it will tarnish his legacy even more. If he finishes his career with the Vikings while still being productive for a couple of seasons, it will help get rid of a lot of the negativity towards him.

  35. All the nit-picking back-and-forth between these fan-bases, with insults as applicable to the sender as the recipient, and bragging, and predictions, etc., etc., etc.

Come on already. The Packers own the Vikings. And they will until they don’t. Get used to it.

    Oh……and good luck.

Again….this duplicated thought makes no sense. Nice lack of originality though.

  39. I believe him. I also believe the Vikes want to trade down, not up. They don’t need a QB, they have a stud RB. They need a WR and a corner, but they don’t need to get them at #11 if they can pick up some draft picks for that spot.

  40. “Vikings will continue to embrace the most playoff losses in NFL history… Hard to do with so few playoff appearances..”

Again….this duplicated thought makes no sense. Nice lack of originality though.

Just stating the facts.. Vikes own it. When you have the 5th worst playoff winning% it’s easy to own this distinction with so few playoff appearances…

  44. This is a NFL story, right?

The pinnacle of the NFL is winning a Super Bowl, right?

The Vikings have never done that, right?

Sorry, Viking fans…you can claim that winning the division a lot 30 years ago is more impressive than 13 championships all you want, but the facts say that your team is a joke, and that it always has been.

This is how idiot math works up in Green bay. What a glowing endorsement for your school system, cheeseheads.

Hey clammy, if a team can only lose one time in the playoffs, and then their playoffs end, if a team has the most playoff losses in NFL history then that means they are among the leagues leaders in playoff appearances.

Only one team every year doesn’t post a playoff loss.

So when you keep throwing out that idiotic stat, what you’re saying is that the Vikings makes the playoffs more than almost any other team…that they are in fact perennial playoff worthy teams.

Vikings have the 6th best regular season winning percentage in the modern era NFL. Ahead the Ravens,Packers,Patriots and Colts. Packers have finished in last place more times than the Vikings have in their history. And look at that ugly choke job in Seattle in the NFC Championship game. You Packer fans are all spoiled to have two HOF QBs in a row, something that is so rare it will most likely never happen to you again. I also saw the last game played showing the 2 teams playing pretty equal ball.

How can you possibly say that Matt Millen’s epic/historic adventure as the Lion’s GM is irrelevant? Granted, he didn’t win games. But his importance is that he’s a warning to others.

As for AP … there’s a lot of time between now and the start of the regular season. I seriously doubt he’ll be in Vikings purple when the first game kicks off.

  59. “he still finished the season as one of the most accurate deep ball passers in the NFL, according to PFF”

TOTAL LIE! But if you make it up like every Viking fan is known to do then it must be true.

  60. Bridgewater did his best work at the intermediate level where he graded at +13.3 while sprinkling in a few deep passes on mostly busted coverages to the tune of a 46.3 percent accuracy percentage that ranked 10th in the league.

  61. “vikingdoode says: this is exactly was said when Percy was then delt to Seattle..”

The difference is Harvin never lived up to his full potential and he was a disruptive cancer in the locker room. Even Seattle had to trade him after only 1 season for a conditional 6th round pick in 2015… essentially trading down a 1st. Peterson is loved by his fellow team mates and has been one of, if not THE, preeminent RB in the NFL for the past decade with CONSERVATIVELY 3-4 more years of elite play left in him. Couple that with a much improved AND still improving defense, what may very well turn out to be an elite QB…

    Not the same scenario what-so-ever.

  62. Oh golly gee… the Vikings were better than the Packers in the 70’s and 80’s. Gee, that really smarts…or not… mostly because it’s true. Of course you certainly didn’t see Packer fans running around trying to maintain that the Packers were the better team, because they weren’t.

What’s best about it all is that the absolute best the Lavender Losers have ever been, still just wasn’t good enough. They were still the Lavender Losers. They just couldn’t win it all. Now they can’t even sniff getting close.

Yep. The Vikings of the 70’s and 80’s were better than the Packers of the 70’s and 80’s. But the Packers of the 20’s, the 30’s, the 40’s, the 60’s, the 90’s, the 00’s AND the 10’s were… and are… better than the Vikings have ever been.

You people are fun.. in that creepy insane asylum kind of way.

  63. Maybe the NFL will finally allow the Vikes to have 12 men in the huddle.. A designated translator to help the others understand Teddy..

  64. 25 years without a playoff win. Who did that!? No…not the Packers!?
Yes, it’s true. 25 years, one legit playoff appearance. That is truly an epic fail. Maybe the biggest fail in the history of sports.

  65. Over the last 5 weeks of the regular season Teddy was the 2nd best passer in the NFL. Better than Rodgers…go look it up.

  66. AP wasn’t on the teams in the 70s and 8ps Vikings which is what this article and I am talking about..

Half the Viking fans want to tLk about how one day their Hof QB will be gone u tell then something current and they want to talk about the great players and teams that had 40 years ago that still never won a SB

  67. The Green Bay Packers have the highest playoff win% in NFL history. 2nd highest if you separate out the Ravens from the Browns as a franchise.

Just one more stat that the Vikings are looking up at when it comes to their neighbors to the east that they are so envious of.

  68. “25 years without a playoff win. Who did that!? No…not the Packers!?
Yes, it’s true. 25 years, one legit playoff appearance.”

Its nice that you can go back in history and carve out a sliver of time to make whatever statement you want to prove a lame point.

Are they forgetting that they kind of left him out in the cold while dealing with his issues….even Peterson and his agent mentioned that he got no support from the team.

Conveniently, I’m guessing AP may have 500 yards rushing this season and a TD or 2….then the team won’t be able to get rid of him fast enough.

ok thats the first game what about the next 15?

  77. How many of these trolls are the same guy? And why do SKOL-LOL, tokyoxxx, and ariani have so much time on their hands to have 20+ (early) posts on everything that has anything to do with Vikings?*

Plus it’s extremely funny to listen to “owners” of the packers. Once you have 50% share you can make a business decision, until then you continue to sound foolish…

    *losers.

  78. There are more Packer fans wasting their time STINKING up the place than Vikings fans…
    How about some MODERATION HERE?
Why don’t you go to your packer stories.
Oh yeah, they aren’t worth the time of day.

  79. Every year, same old same old. The Lavender Lunatics tell us all about how the Pack has peaked and all about the great Viking dynasty that’s just over the horizon. And every year, just like when driving down the road, the horizon never comes.

Luckily, the other thing that happens every year is that the Lavender Lunatics will completely disappear by week 7, leaving meaningful football discussion to the fans of those teams that are actually relevant.

  80. I for one, believe Speilman that Peterson will NOT be traded. Simply because they can’t find a willing trade partner who is both willing to give the Vikings something in return AND pay Peterson $12 million on top of that.

Nobody is that stupid, unless you are the Vikings who are on the hook for that $12 million. But how else do you finish in last place in 3 out of the last 5 years?

  81. Look, vikings fans claim that they have an amazing team around Teddy Bridgewater, but they also claim that Teddy Bridgewater IS amazing.

    They’re right. I mean, 7-9 is amazing.

    Right?

  82. When you think about it without the legal drama, it’s a bit shocking they want to keep him since teams typically try to unload high paid 30 year old running backs

  83. Adrian petersons life ruined for whooping his son and leaving blisters on his ass. Meanwhile this women is on national tv striking her son repeatedly with blows to the head and shes a hero? Shame on america for your sexist double standards

  84. Well you’re sort of right. For the most part, 7-9 is only amazing when added up by way of the Minnesota maths.

On the other hand, the Vikings didn’t finish dead last in the division last year; and that, in and of itself, is pretty darned amazing.

  85. He’s going to be a Viking. Let’s move on. Although, whoever he suits up with.. Be afraid. He’s an elite rb with a chip on his shoulder. I won’t be first in line to stand at the fifty waiting. Daaaaang!

  86. I hope AD stays on the Vikes, but remember this – Carson Palmer is 35. Larry Fitzgerald is 31. How long is the window open for that team to win?
30 yr.old Adrian Peterson had 21 carries last year. 29 yr. old Marshawn Lynch had 343 carries including post season last year. Who’s beat up?

  87. I am surprised that the Vikings are standing by this no-trade policy. I would have imagined that they would have wanted to move on from this story and all the baggage that comes with it this season.
