Bucs G.M. says he didn’t tell Jameis to delete crab-leg photo

Jameis Winston’s crab-leg picture has been alternately described as an amusing way to poke fun at himself for last year’s shoplifting arrest and as a sign that he needs to grow up. But what it’s not is a concern to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht said on PFT Live that he didn’t tell Winston to remove the picture from his Instagram account.

“Lovie, myself, ownership, we didn’t,” Licht said. “None of us asked for him to take it off. Maybe he was advised by someone on his end, but no, we didn’t ask for him to take it down. There’s one thing that the nation and the people here in Tampa have learned over the last period of time is Jameis likes crab legs, for sure.”

Licht acknowledged that Winston may have some growing up to do, but that’s par for the course with NFL rookies.

“He’s got to grow up, he knows that, and just like all of our draft picks, who enter the workforce, the NFL, it’s time to get serious,” Licht said.

Although Licht acknowledged that there were teams calling the Bucs to inquire about trading for the first overall pick, Licht said they never came close to doing that.

“We were pretty locked in but we didn’t want to completely close the door,” Licht said. “If something completely blew us away we would at least talk about it, but we were pretty locked and loaded.”

The Bucs are confident that they’ve got their man in Winston, even if he does have more growing up to do.
