Rams trade Zac Stacy to Jets for seventh-round pick

AP

Running back Zac Stacy wanted to be traded out of St. Louis after the Rams spent their first-round draft pick on running back Todd Gurley. It didn’t take long for the Rams to oblige.

The Jets have acquired Stacy in a trade for a seventh-round draft pick. The Rams used that pick, No. 224 overall, on Baylor linebacker Bryce Hager.

Stacy showed a lot of promise as a rookie in 2013, starting 12 games and rushing for 973 yards and seven touchdowns. But in 2014 he was buried on the Rams’ depth chart and totaled only 293 yards all season. With Gurley on the roster, Stacy was only going to be further buried, so it’s no surprise the Rams got rid of him.

With the Jets, Stacy joins a backfield that also includes Chris Ivory, Stevan Ridley and Bilal Powell.

  1. Wow talk about ending with a bang. Very impressed by this regimes moves. As a long time Jets fan I can honestly say this is the first time in a while that I feel confident in management. I can’t argue with anything they have done this far. Wow

  2. Jets finish a stellar draft with a nice trade. All of a sudden the Jets have a crowded backfield with Ivory, Powell, Ridley, Stacey and don’t sleep on Daryl Richardson who also came from St Louis.

    I wonder if u said that when u traded up for rg3.. By the way the Rams are still in better shape then the skins.. Not even a Rams fan.. I bet they will have a better season than the skins will.. Stamp that

  4. thefootballgodssay – Best comment and had me LOL around my gf. Shocked you have more down votes than ups. What the hell is wrong with people?

  5. Geez, one move after another, Mike Mc and co keep hitting em out of the ballpark. Finally, for the first time in his life, Woody Johnson did something right in hiring this guy as GM. True, he was presented with no brainer after no brainer, but he did the no brainer thing each time where previous Jets regimes did the opposite of the obvious move.

  6. Getting Stacy for a seventh round pick is great value and for the rams to get someone that could potentially contribute this year is smart move. Seems like everybody wins.

  7. Very impressed how both the Jets and Rams have drafted this year, but it also helps having high picks so it’s expected. Hated seeing Gurley coming to the NFC WEST! Great back!

  8. As a Bills fan I’m far from worried about anything Jets but must admit ” on paper” they’ve had a good off season. I know some will say they had all the cap money in the world to spend so how hard can it be? Well, ask Browns fans who seem to have 2 first rd picks every year how there franchise is doing? Bowles May not have inherited a Porsche, but it’s not a Kia at least.

  9. He should be pumped.. Ivory, Powell and Ridleys contracts are up next year, great opportunity for him to work up to #1 in 2016 if he proves himself this year

    ZACK JUST TWEETED Y I K E S AGAIN !

    ~~~~~~
    Funniest thing I’ve read in ages and I’m a Jets fan! Great one!
  11. I still don’t think Gurley plays next season anyway. So I don’t know what Zach’s rush was all about
  12. Jets fanz: “What a great draft! New GM is fantastic!”
    Translation: “Jets drafted a bunch of guys no one actually knows anything about, but they didn’t manage to say anything stupid yet, so I am going to assume they did great and much better than the old regime. Besides, in a year from now I am going to complain about how much this draft sucked, any way.”
  13. In 5 years people will remember this draft and the Rams will wish they drafted Gordon instead of Gurley. Knee injury and looks thin.. Gordon is going to light it up. As for this trade, Jets made out on this one and I hate the Jets.
    You never heard of Leonard Williams or Devin Smith? LOL.
  15. J-E-T-S!! JUST.EMPTIED.THE.SAVINGS!! WE CAN’T GET A QUARTERBACK!! Go jets. Could’ve traded that 7 rounder for Tebow and have been in better shape, Mettenberger, even. Guess they don’t think to highly of quarterbacks down there in Jets territory; almost sure they could’ve worked something out for Bradford even. Well, a rudderless ship is better than a sinking one I suppose, Jets are a little bit better.
  16. So if the jets draft RB in round 1 next year this guy up and runs away again?
  17. Welcome to the new NFL backfield. Who cares about workhorse backs when you can have 3 guys put up numbers. I like this new GM…
    Only RB to get 100+ on the Seahawks last season
    Except for Jamaal Charles and his 159. 8 yards per carry too.
    Hawk fans are terrible for the most part, and you can NEVER trust anything they say.
    The best thing that happened to the Jets this offseason was losing 400 lbs of Rex, along with all his stupid pick requests.
  20. Coming from a Rams fan: Stacy is a good back. The Rams just have a lot of depth there and he was not going to play. Before the Rams even drafted Gurley he was their #3 back behind Mason and Cunningham.
    But believe me when I say that Stacy can be a productive back for somebody. I wish him well with the Jets.
