Teddy Bridgewater to give the “riders up” call at Kentucky Derby

AP

NFL fans tuning into Saturday’s Kentucky Derby on NBC will see and hear one of the league’s rising young quarterbacks.

After the 18 Derby entrants are saddled, Minnesota’s Teddy Bridgewater will announce “Riders up!” at about 6:25 p.m. Eastern, Jennie Rees of the Louisville Courier-Journal reports. At that time, jockeys will get a leg up on their horses.

Then comes the call to post, with the traditional bugle call, and the 18 three-year-old horses will head on to the track for the post parade to the sounds of “My Old Kentucky Home.”

Bridgewater attended the University of Louisville and is in town this week for Derby events, including last night’s Barnstable Brown Gala.

The Kentucky Derby is set to start at 6:34 p.m. Eastern.

  1. Best young QB in the league! Notice that he didn’t have to sit in the green room on draft day looking like a clown for 2 days like our little sisters to the east QB!

  2. Is he really one of the league’s rising young quarterbacks? I like him and I would concede that he played slightly above average in limited playing time last year but does 14 tds and 12 picks and an 85 qbr really make you a rising star? I think you may be getting a little ahead of yourself with that assessment.

  3. If 14 TD’s and 12 INT qualifies as a “rising young QB”, then they must have moved the bar.

That’s in the same neighborhood as Ponder’s first year and we all know how that one turned out.

  4. “Best young QB in the league! Notice that he didn’t have to sit in the green room on draft day looking like a clown for 2 days like our little sisters to the east QB!”

Best young QB in the league is like being the nicest looking turd. Oh…..and thank you Vikings for making Rodgers sit in the green room by passing on him twice. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be fortunate to have the best QB in the NFL.

  5. Megatonownsyou – Have you interacted with a Vikings fan before? They were also shocked that Adrian Peterson didn’t win the NFL’s man of the year award.

  6. Only Minnesota Vikings fans call a middling QB – look at his stats – a “rising star”. I guess Packers fans’ standards are just a bit higher. LOL

  7. Hater gona hate watch Bridgewater take the Vikings to the playoff and all you GreenGay trolls choke on your words lol

  8. Ahhh, the land of cheese and stale beer! So glad you’re happy with your version of Trent dilfer! Winning playoff games is not illegal you know!

  9. Boring sports day. Great to see cheesers think so much of Teddy that they are comparing our QB’s rookie numbers (w/o 3/5ths of his O-line and starting RB) to veteran NFL QBs. Then again, when your GM drafts a juco baseball player with a bad shoulder and a washed up basketball player, I suppose you need to look somewhere for good draft picks.

They used to make up these kind of excuses for Cutler. Then they just FINALLY came to the conclusion that he sucked.

  11. Don’t quite know who the elusive “they” are there Mr. SKOL, but “we” do know that “you”choose to comment on Teddy every day ad nauseum — your obsession would be funnier if not quite so sad.

  12. Best young lawn jockey in the league! Notice that he didn’t have to sit in the green room on draft day looking like a clown for 2 days because we took him 2 rounds too early!

This is a serious question arianil985. Wouldn’t you rather use a username that goes with your own team than a fake one pretending to be a Viking fan that cuts down the Vikings?

  14. Based upon the skill Adrian has shown in riding camels and whipping children, it surprises me that he’s not a jockey. What more does the man need to show to get a chance?

Once again, says the gal with a KC handle. Why do you pose that the Vikings were champs in ’69? We all know that only equates to an NFC conference championship in the SB era.

  16. Viking won the NFL Championship in 1969. Lost the Superbowl. I am not denying that.

Answer the question. Why use a fake Viking profile name when you are a Packer fan?

  17. Don’t these packer fans know that the lawn jockey jokes are not only offensive, they’re racist? I guess Wisconsin’s rep as the state with the most hate groups is true.

  18. I will buy two pars of isotoner gloves if teddy bridgewater endorses it.

look at that face, Teddy’s going to make millions in endorsements because of his play on the field and demeanor off it. I’m telling ya, once the national media gets to know this kid, and he becomes a pro bowl quarterback, their going to love him.

    Isotoners…. obsess much!?

  19. Pack don’t think much of Teddy that why they drafted 2 defense backs with their 1st two picks

  20. “Pack don’t think much of Teddy that why they drafted 2 defense backs with their 1st two picks”

Or maybe…just maybe…they lost 2 defensive backs in free agency???

It’s cute that you think it has anything to do with Teddy. The guy who had a lower passer rating than Cutler’s career average.

  21. Notice that teddy is starting while little Erin Rogers rode the bench for 3 straight years and leads the league in playoff losses!

  22. “Notice that teddy is starting while little Erin Rogers rode the bench for 3 straight years and leads the league in playoff losses!”

That’s what happens when you’re behind a HOF QB rather than garbage like Ponder and Cassel. And he doesn’t even lead the league in playoff losses, so that’s another typical made up lie.

  23. Q. what happens when you mix Erin Rogers with Trent dilfer?
    A. Nothing, same exact post season stats!

    Q. What do you call Erin Rogers in the regular season?
    A. Hero!

    Q. What do you call Erin Rogers in the post season?
A.zero! Or all time playoff loss leader!

  24. Just about all the football analysts say that Bridgewater was the top rookie QB of 2014, fans voted him the Pepsi OROY and NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks said, in his 2014 NFL re-draft, that Bridgewater was the best player and should have been drafted first overall.

The negative comments about Bridgewater are made only by deluded, hateful or scared Packers fans. That’s the truth. Packer fans fear the Vikings’ coming dominance (probably not this year, but in a year or so) with Bridgewater at the helm and the Packers being relegated to another 0-for-quarter-century stretch of irrelevance.

    ____________

Notice he has also lead the Packers to more Super Bowl wins in his 10 years in the league than any QB has in the HISTORY of the Vikings franchise.

  26. Teddy Bridgewater is considered “on the rise” because PFF ranked him one of most efficient QB in the last 5 games.

The last 5 weeks his stats were: 1230yds, 72.1% completion, 8.7 Y/A, 102.9 Passer rating

That’s pretty good for a rookie. Especially considering all the adversity he went through. Even the most biased Packer fan can see that.

  27. Given a choice, I would rather have a QB that calls “Riders up” at the Derby than one that is made fun of by Hanz and Franz…….jus sayin

Should’t he be playing Madden to get ready for his next NFL season?

He’s playing on the Wii cuz the Xbox controllers are too big for his dainty hands.
