Report: Brady suspension will be announced next week

AP

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has reportedly decided to suspend Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, with an announcement coming next week and the only remaining question being how many games Brady will miss.

Gary Myers of the New York Daily News reports that several league sources say Goodell considers Brady’s role in Deflategate a serious violation. The question Goodell still needs to answer, according to this report, is how long Brady will be suspended, not if Brady will be suspended.

Goodell reportedly believes that he needs to discipline Brady for two different violations: First, for his involvement in having footballs under-inflated. And secondly, for his refusal to allow the Deflategate investigation to have access to his cell phone records.

Estimates of the length of the suspension have been all over the map, but a suspension of any length would make Brady the highest-profile player ever to receive such a punishment. Brady is the reigning Super Bowl MVP and perhaps the league’s biggest star. And the NFL apparently plans to open the 2015 season without him.

  1. He should get atleast 8 games. Your not bigger than the game Tommy boy. What is your cell phone hiding?

  2. It’s just a coincidence that the NFL waited until after the Super Bowl and NFL draft to “complete the report”. Not a Brady fan at all but he should not get more then 2 games.

  3. Brady may be a higher profile, but Alex Karras and Paul Hornung were high profile players suspended for an entire season for gambling.

Hornung is a Heisman winner and former Notre Dame golden golden boy. Pretty high profile stuff at the time.

  4. MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings played their coldest home game in 38 years on Sunday, when they beat the Carolina Panthers in 12-degree temperatures at TCF Bank Stadium.

As both teams dealt with the freezing temperatures, Fox cameras showed sideline attendants using heaters to warm up game balls, which is against league rules. NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said Monday morning on NFL Network that officials warned both the Vikings and Panthers not to heat up the balls during Sunday’s game, and would remind teams this week not to heat game balls.

“You can’t do anything with the footballs in terms of any artificial, whether you’re heating them up, whether it’s a regular game ball or kicking ball, you can’t do anything to the football,” Blandino said. “So that was noticed during the game, both teams were made aware of it during the game and we will certainly remind the clubs as we get into more cold weather games that you can’t do anything with the football in terms of heating them up with those sideline heaters.”

By rule, the home team is responsible for providing the game balls. The footage shown on NFL Network is from the Vikings’ sideline, though there are attendants from both teams on both sidelines and a league source said the Vikings weren’t heating up the balls during the game.

Zimmer said he hadn’t heard anything from the league about it on Monday, adding, “Somebody told me (Carolina’s) ball boys were doing it.”

Ball boys are allowed to carry hand heaters, as Fox officiating analyst Mike Pereira pointed out, but they are not allowed to put game balls in front of sideline heaters. The Vikings have two December home games on their schedule — this Sunday against the New York Jets and Dec. 28 against the Chicago Bears. After the league sent out a warning, it stands to reason they’ll be watching the sidelines closely in cold-weather games this month.

  5. If Garoppolo plays lights out and the Patriots are undefeated or close to it when Brady comes back, does he get the Bledsoe treatment?

  6. I have a feeling Goodell is going heavy, but for the sanctity of the game but also to try to repair the damage of his legacy because of how badly he has bungled some other suspensions. I’m guessing 6-8 games, but at least 4.

  7. ‘Page 228 of the Wells report: In sun, the data did not provide a basis for us to determine with absolute certainty whether there was or was not tampering as the analysis of such data ultimately is dependent upon assumptions and information that is not certain.’ Wow….sounds like a slam dunk to me.

  8. Here is a PFT original Hy Ku Poem to fit the mood in the northeast. You’re Welcome.

    Tom Cheats alot
    Patriot fans crying
    four tainted rings

  9. This whole issue is stupid. These rules are in-place so that the qbs can throw the balls that they like to throw without having to play with flat balls. Obviously TB12 likes his balls a little flatter than most. Who frickin cares? As long as he can throw it, it oughta be ok.
This is a case where the spirit of the law got overblown by the letter of the law. The NFL is gettin this so wrong. Shoulda been a non-story from the get-go.
I’m not a Pats fan, I may become 1 if TB12 gets suspended.

  10. Why does he get to keep his MVP award much less the Lombardi. So cheaters get caught and suspended but get to keep all awards won while cheating. Doesn’t seem right.

  11. Why the hell should Brady give up his cell phone for the voyeurs in the Ted Wells investigation to creepily peruse?

This isn’t a damn criminal investigation.

  12. In 1963 Paul Hornung, NFL MVP, was suspended for one year for gambling….

Horning, at the time, was just as high profile as Tom Brady is today…

  13. There is not much wrong with the NFL between the white lines

Outside the white lines where all those who make a living off the backs of guys who put bodies on line each week and who bear all the risk PATHETIC Goodell is ruining NFL Will go down as worst sports commissioner ever. When did NFL moth in Law and Order series

Mark my words Patriots are going to smoke other teams this year

  14. Brady should be suspended for the whole season without any appeals. Anything less is a slap on the wrist. Patriots should also lose a first round draft pick for 2016.

  15. THE GLENDALE ADDRESS

Countless scores and thirteen years ago our football gods brought forth in this league a new dynasty, conceived in excellence, and dedicated to the proposition that all players do their job equally.

Now the league is engaged in a great civil war, testing p.s.i. to see whether that dynasty, or any dynasty so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great grid iron and battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who would squander their season in vain that that the dynasty might die here. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The players, active and injured, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The league will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the fans, rather, to be dedicated to the unfinished play which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here to support the great task remaining before this dynasty–that in this honored team we take increased devotion to that entertainment for which they gave the last full measure of devotion–that we here highly resolve that this team shall not have struggled in vain–that this dynasty, shall have a new birth of excellence–and that domination of this league, by this dynasty and for this dynasty, shall not perish from the turf.

  16. Why does he get to keep his MVP award much less the Lombardi. So cheaters get caught and suspended but get to keep all awards won while cheating. Doesn’t seem right.
    ___________________________________________
He got the superbowl trophy and the superbowl MVP while the balls were closely monitored by a third party. I guess another one of your arguments is wrong. Don’t you hate with the truth gets in the way of a good troll rant.

  17. Goodell forgot to destroy the evidence this time. Therefore Brady’s punishment will be a slap on his non throwing hand, and he has to pick up the annual getaway fishing trip tab for Kraft and Goodell. Oh yea , and probably suspended for 2 quarters and a fine not to exceed 600 bucks. No suspension hopefully. We want The Patriots at full strength when they play America’s Team.

  18. For what? Possibly being aware guys might be inflating balls past 16 psi and laughing about it? Not giving his phone to NFL lawyers that hate him? Goodell is an agent of chaos, the league can only survive him for so long.

  19. Genius. Bifurcate the suspension. Goodell says 4 games, NFLPA wins the appeal of games associated with the cell phone. 2 games after appeal.

  20. 4 or 5 game suspension at the start of the season will be perfect for the Pats. Garropolo will win at least 2 of those games and then a rested Brady will likely storm to his 5th Super Bowl victory.

  21. Should force him to hang out with the MANNINGS for a weekend.!!!

  22. Brady misses no more than two games. After losses to Pittsburgh and Buffalo, they are 0-2. Then, guess what, they will STILL win the AFC going away and will be the odds on favorite to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Sorry Patriot haters, that’s just the way it is.

  23. “Honestly, I wasn’t even aware that footballs could be inflated or deflated,” Tom said. “Look, all I know is that a football is a pigskin, so I just assumed that the air in the football is how much air was inside the pig when it died.”

  24. Shameful organization with a culture of cheating from the head coach on down. How many games have they had an unfair advantage in that we will never know about? From secretly taping other teams practices prior to playing them to bending rules in games to create unfair advantages on the field to doctoring balls. I hope Brady gets suspended for the year and I hope Kraft losses a draft pick in next years draft. I message must be sent that cheating will not be tolerated and if you do cheat the penalties will be harsh. Shameful organization.

  25. It’s so perfect the way this news has come out – not through an official notice, but leaked through the NY Daily News. You would think, after all the leaks in this case, that they would try to announce the official punishment through official channels. But, nope. Much better it get leaked out.

    Goodell must go.

  26. And Belichick for a year of course.

A head coach is responsible for his team whether he knows it’s happening or not. It’s called the Sean Payton rule and should apply here too…

  27. Goodell has screwed himself royally. If he suspends Brady he loses Kraft’s support for the next time Goodell mishandles his business. And with Goodell, of course he will mishandle something soon. If he doesn’t suspend Brady he’ll never hear the end of it from the mob hoard he allowed to fester. Not a fan of any team involved but we’re talking about tents of a pound of pressure in a football. This should have been handles with a quick meeting and a warning. Goodell allowed this little issue to reach a critical mass. What a maroon.

  28. After several occasions prowed that Goodel’s people are leaking any information coming their way it makes perfect sense to trust them on this one and hand over your cellphone to them.

Thumbs down if you have any concern to give your own cellphone to these guys.

  29. the funny thing is with how good the pats are, say Brady gets 4 games, that is 4 starts for their young QB to showcase. they won 11 with Cassel, I mean cmon.

watch them turn this into multiple high picks and still make a deep playoff run. not a pats fan, but I can definitely see the hoodie turning this into a positive for the Pats.

  30. Based on the “more probable than not”, “generally knew” the lack of any real evidence and this little gem in the report “Our scientific consultants ultimately informed us that the data alone did not provide a basis for them to determine with absolute certainty whether there was or was not
    tampering. ”

The NFL may be in for a real fight…

  31. Tainted franchise. From top to bottom. Look at America’s team. Our Superbowl victories are convincing and solid with no controversy. P.Manning is the better QB behind Romo. At least Manning wins fair and square unlike this tainted franchise that’s giving our beloved NFL and bad rep. Butler should of won the MVP not Brady. He bailed EVERYONE out! Tainted franchise and another reason why Goodell needs to go.

  32. If I’m Kraft, I fire Belichick, trade Brady and start over. Anything you win with those two going forward doesn’t mean squat anyway.

  33. Hope Under Armour and Brady are working on some tv spots to run , they would be missing out on an opportunity to capitalize on this by taking shots at the league and Rog.

  34. Blessing in disguise. Brady is 37 years old. That train is much closer to the station than ever. He may have another 2 years left in him.

They get Garrapolo some starts to see what they have…give the 37 y/o some in season rest (he’ll get camp and preseason)…and then make a run.

It’s a punishment but even though it’s Brady I don’t think it’s that bad. Take Billy B and now we’ve got an issue but this isn’t gonna be that bad for them or their season.

  35. Assuming a 4 game suspension (2 feels more reasonable), they’ll probably start 2-2. Vs. Steelers, @Bills, vs. Jaguars, @ Cowboys. If the Bills can steal one without Brady (they usually only lose to the Pats because Brady dominates them like no other team he regularly faces) then I can safely say that…they’ll rebound, win 11-12 games, and make at least a deep playoff run. A team coached by Bill Belichick isn’t going to fold up their tents for any reason.

  36. 5th game on the Pats schedule is the Colts. 4 game suspension to the come back to play them would good.

  37. The only thing connected to him that doesn’t deserve an asterisk is his wife.

  38. So much for all the Pats fans with blinders on suggesting a 20k fine, declaring his innocence, and generally shouting that all the Patriot “haters” will be crying when little Tommy doesn’t get punished.

I do agree with Milksteak78 in that if it’s worth suspending him, the awards need to go as well. In Pro Sports, they are loathe to change the record books and that makes it a very big carrot to entice athletes to cheat.

Ryan Braun didn’t lose his $145 mill contract, ARod didn’t lose his $200+ mill contract after being suspended for a year, and Barry Bonds got to keep all his records. As long as you don’t get caught before reaching your goal, what they do to you after is really meaningless. Braun and ARod are still making millions a year even after being proven to be Grade A cheaters and lying to the baseball commisioner and the fans.

  39. 10 Regular Season Games
1 Playoff Game(carries over to next season)
    Banned from all off-season activities
Super Bowl victory erased from the records.

    That’s fair to me.

  40. Media : skip the trial and head straight to the sentencing phase.

    Unasked Questions :

If Ted Wells is paid directly by Roger Goodell, is he impartial? Would Wells be violating his oath if he took sides against Goodell or his entourage? Either way, all NFL staff were fully exonerated.

Did Goodell use the NFL media machine (and unwitting others) to build Ted Wells and his report up as the unassailable, unvarnished truth, when in fact, his case is more like weak tea?

Just how much power should Goodell lackeys, like Ted Wells, be given over the operations of the NFL? Two years ago Goodell butchered the Saints, next week the Patriots. Be careful what you wish for because very soon Ted Wells could be coming after your team.
    .

  41. Suspension of 2 games, reduced to zero games on account of zero evidence

  42. They should make the suspension announcement a dragged-out 2 hour special on NFL network and ESPN …

  43. Whilst its tempting to suspend Brady for 3 games, the Panthers and Vikings just got a warning (and Rodgers hasn’t even been warned), and the NFL sting and Wells investigation was so badly done I doubt any sane person would have been advised by their counsel or NFLPA to co-operate. So badly done and biased in fact that Goodell should apologise to Brady and the Pats, and every other team in the league, for botching the whole thing, and then announce his resignation as NFL commissioner.

    ———————————-

Give it up. As has been posted ad nauseum, Brady’s lawyer was to turn over relevant texts and emails, not the cell phone itself.

The average Pats fan is about as much reading comprehension as Don Yee.

  45. He will be suspended for 4 games, then the appeal proses starts. As slow as the nfl is,the suspension will be reduced to 2 games for the 2016 preseason.

  46. The fact he refused to let them see his cell phone records shows his guilt. If he had nothing to hide, release the records. OH, but he DID have something to hide. LIKE CHEATING.

Look, the dude had gone 10 years without a ring and had lost his last 2 superbowls. It strikes me as a desperate “win at all costs” move. Too bad Seattle GIFTED him the title. 2nd and a 1/2 yard to go with BEAST MODE — lets pass. Give me a break. Only delusional Pat fan thinks they had that game won. Everyone else on the planet knows Pete Carroll made the worst call in the history of all sports.

  47. restorativejusticeprogram, Hillary isn’t doomed because the republican party is the equivalent of a Pete Carroll pass call on the 1 yard line.

  48. Tom’s the man..Goddell and the nfl league office are a joke, trying to appease the masses because everything they have botched over the last 2 years. Unfortunately the masses are morons.

  49. Long history of guys getting hammered by the league when they lie. If Brady would have taken this seriously and been upfront from the start, he would only be looking at a fine. Laughing about this during interviews is probably not helping him. Not a good look to be less than 100% cooperative and then stick to a story when facts point to your involvement. The suspension that is coming can be blamed on his enormous ego.

  50. If he comes clean, owns it and stops lying: 4 games.

If he continues to stonewall and lie about it: the season.

    Don’t give a cheater a break.

    GIVE THEM AN ASTERISK *

He never should’ve been in the super bowl due to cheating, therefore he wouldn’t have been eligible to win those awards.

Don’t you hate it when the truth get’s in the way of a good rant?

  52. Waste the Pats. NFL buys out Kraft, Belicheat and Brady banned for life, every superbowl be relinquished and new team for LA. Done. Put the cheaters on THAT pedestal. College teams that cheat lose all related victories and titles. Same for NFL.

  53. I’m going to take that as at least 1 game per violation and probably more. With that being said its obvious that the light penalties given to the Pats for past violations have done nothing to deter them from breaking the rules again. I don’t feel 2 games would change that. If it is something like 8 games that would be a harsh suspension but one that I feel would make the Pats and every other team think twice before breaking the rules.

  54. Congrats Colts. You have found the only way to stop Brady from beating you.

  55. Once again – why is the NFL dragging the brand through this publically when it could have been handled behind closed doors?

It doesn’t benefit the brand. They knew about it before the game and could have addressed it quietly. Did they not think it would be all over the news ? Watch the fallout after the suspension.

They are either completely inept OR someone wanted to embarrass the Pats/Brady.

    Choose one.

Either way, none of this is good for the league.

The can of worms has opened.

    Except it’s not the truth

  57. No need for a long suspension just send him dressed in his jersey to the black hole in Oaktown so he can explain the tuck rule to the nice gentle folks who might have an interest in him. Problem would be quickly solved and golden boy would never ever lie again.

  58. The pats haters get what they want….Brady suspended and the pats dragged thru the mud.
Be careful what you wish for…

The last time the pats were dragged thru the mud for “improper camera placement during a nationally televised game”… They went 18-1 loosing only on a absolute fluke catch. The last time the played without Brady… they went 11-5 becoming the first team to ever win 11 games and miss the playoffs.
How motivated do you think the reigning champions will be this year?

  59. dynastydriven says:
“NFL aware of game ball incident during Panthers-Vikings”

Just a warning for those two teams. I wonder why…

    —————–

Very simple, neither team lied about it and they fully cooperated with the league.

There is also the little detail that Pats have been caught cheating before. Now it’s a pattern of deceptive behavior and an appearance of organizational disregard for the rules.

  60. Good thing they still play in the AFC Easy, so it won’t be a death sentence.
Something about this whole situation reminds me of the Freeh report. That was supposed to be this big smoking gun, but turned out to be discredited at points. Listen, I dislike PSU and New England just about the same. The similarities between the ugly reaction of the internet and media are eerily similar to the Freeh report release.

  61. Goodell needs to go he has brought embarrassment and turmoil to the NFL. His handling of every issue has been a joke … 2 games for Ray Rice knocking out his girlfriend and claiming no knowledge of the video . Greg Hardy suspended 25 games with no legal conviction of any wrong doing … Bounty gate it took former commissioner to make things right … AP handling another farce . Now this genius launches a four month investigation over psi inflation …. Which rises to the level of competitive advantage about the same level as Nike Vapor gloves help receivers … This idiot was alerted to a possible issue by the colts Before the game and instead of warning the Pats of possible infractions lets the game be played in the first half with deflated balls …. Must really affect the game ….. now this genius will suspend one of its biggest stars arguably the greatest player in NFL history over “more probable than not ” evidence… Yes I am a life long Pats fan but also watch for love of the game and a reasonable man . Zealous fans of other teams that have consistently lost to Brady and the Pats are assassinating his character and calling for his head … Comes from a place of pure jealousy … All 31 teams would trade places with the Pats and their success the last 15 years in a heartbeat … Spy gate … Again about the location of cameras and not filming … Which is why coaches cover their mouths to this day and Deflategate a witch hunt started by jealousy and offers no competitive advantage or the NFL would not allowed under-inflated balls in the first half . If it did offer an advantage … All Colts fans should be outraged at the NFL officials for their handling of the balls in question … As a Pats fan none of this changes my view of my team , Tom Brady , BB or Robert Kraft . But the owners need to get together and show Goodell the door and let it hit him in the ass on the way out ! All true NFL fans would celebrate his removal ! … Finally. Jim Kelly … Keep up the fight … You Da Man !

  62. A little off the mark on this but I’ve been hearing a lot about the NFL having a sting operation to catch the Pats deflating balls. People have been saying that the league should have told the Pats they were going to watch this stuff and not to do it. My take is who’s to say the league had not warned them before.

  63. Brady lied in portions of his press conference, that’s why he should be punished.

Fans need to get off their high horse and stop being bi-polar about the NFL. People rip the NFL all year long about leaks and mishandled reports about these cases because they truly are the richest morons. But now the NFL got it right this time because they hired some money hungry tool in Wells who wasted more money than anyone imagined, along with time to come to the conclusion of a bunch f more than like lye and probably. Seriously? This investigation was and is a joke from the beginning, it was a friggin national news story. Just crazy.

Remember when Pinieda got caught on the Yankees with a little pine tar on his neck, or Buckholz with bullfrog sunscreen? That’s basically what we’re talking about here.

This whole thing was bitched from the beginning and the report only serves one side, the NFL.

How can people take the report seriously when Wells says there was no sting by the NFL? The league offices were alerted BEFORE the game vs Colts, then Walt Coleman said he could not locate game balls for 15 min, first time in 19 years that’s ever happened, yet they let the first half of a playoff play out? Nice integrity. Then at half time all patriots balls are measure but they “ran out of time measuring the colts balls.” And to top it off, 3 of 4 of their balls lost significant air pressure.

Suspend Brady for being smug and lying at his presser, but that be it. The NFL is a money hungry joke

Ummm. Jimmy Johnson said he employed Spygate tactics en route to his 2 SB victories. Wanna rethink your statement? Or as a previous commenter said, Don’t you hate it when the truth gets in the way of a good rant?

  66. Only 4 Colts balls were tested in which 3 were found deflated (page 8 Wells report). Also, the NFL claims they couldn’t test the Colts’ remaining balls due to time constraints (2nd half starting). When will the NFL conduct an investigation for the Colts’ deflated balls and also the REAL reason why the other Colts’ balls were not tested?

  67. First, for his involvement in having footballs under-inflated

You mean his alleged, unproven involvement.

  68. “He got the superbowl trophy and the superbowl MVP while the balls were closely monitored by a third party. I guess another one of your arguments is wrong. Don’t you hate with the truth gets in the way of a good troll rant.”
    ——–
Well, speaking of the truth getting in the way of a good rant. Brady advanced to the SB on the back of winning a game it has now been proven Brady cheated in to advance. So, by your twisted logic what does it matter how Brady advanced to the SB, as long as he got there. That’s precisely the point. He cheated to get there, and history will forever record the fact that no other SB champion, much less MVP, knowingly cheated the rules to advance to a Championship game. Only Brady, because he feels he’s the King and therefore above the rules.

A full one year suspension would to much to send a very strong message to others who think of themselves in grandiose egoic ways and above everyone else, and also to restore the integrity if the game that Tom Brady stole like a thief in the night, like the coward and now proven liar Tom Brady is before the entire world to see.

  69. Had Goodell done his job when handling Spygate he may not have a franchise that’s culture is built on cheating to deal with. Anything short of a year for Brady, BB and Kraft and the removal ofTedi Bruschi and Heath Evans from TV is an injustice.

The NFL accepts it, Robert Kraft accepts it. Whether you accept it or not is irrelevant.

” We understand and greatly respect the responsibility of being one of 32 in this league and, on that basis, we will accept the findings of the report and take the appropriate actions based on those findings as well as any discipline levied by the league .”

I accept that the league will never vacate the awards and trophies even though they have found him guilty.

The NFL would never mess with the record books.

  71. “hey like to throw without having to play with flat balls. Obviously TB12 likes his balls a little flatter than most. Who frickin cares?”

The league, genius. That’s why hey have the rule. The rule which Tom Brady and his locker room buddies knowingly broke in order to gain an advantage. Why can’t you people get this through your thick skulls?

  72. Pat-hating ranters should note:
    1. Side-line videotaping was not illegal before 2006.
    2. Teams didn’t provide their own balls before 2007.
    3. Game officials handle the balls both before and all game long, every game, and can reject a ball at any time for being too soft.
    4. Deflategate was a badly botched investigation and the Wells report is as much about whitewashing the NFL as it is about finding (and failing) to definitively prove Brady’s guilt.
I wasn’t much of a fan of his before all this, but I’ll start to like him if he fights the NFL over this.

  73. Im a Pats fan, league will dish out the punishment they feel is right and I’m ok with whatever that is. Guys use performance enhancing drugs, coaches practice secretly with players against the rules, tamper with free agents, defensive lineman tape the inside of their jerseys to their pads so OL can’t hold them, running backs spray their jerseys with Pam so defensive players can’t grab… And so on and so on.. It’s common.. Brady was just a high profile player in a high profile game so the league will make an example..
The deflation had nothing to do with the Pats winning games…
He threw for almost 400 yards and multiple TDs against the best D in the league ( Seahawks) with the balls inflated properly.

  74. The integrity of the game has already been compromised by the Patriots. More than a decade of cheating. What a bunch of bums — the players, their coaches, their fans. Classless bums.

    ————————————————————
Except that the league never seemed to care enough to actually take accurate measurements or monitor the balls carefully, as evidenced by them being dramatically overinflated for the Jets game earlier in the season. Doing anything to the balls was a trivial non-issue that no one cared about until the Patriots name came up, now PFT commenters have concluded it is the worst possible thing a team can do. The whole story is absurd. I hope they suspend Brady 8 games or more, he fights it, and Goodell ends up losing his job over this.

  76. This was the dumbest thing, it was stupid this was ever a story, NFL makes it tougher to be a fan with every stupid action they take, time for Goodell to be gone!

  77. The NFL is trying to bolster their ratings by injecting drama into the sport of football. Not last second heroics kind of drama, but scandalous foul play kind of drama. The NFL knows that a significant portion of the fan base watch sports for the off field drama more than the sport itself. This country has turned into something strange. Real news has been replaced with national inquirer type reporting. Doesn’t matter the veracity of the claims, so long as it gets people talking. Disgusting, but Ingenious. The media has sold out to profit margins and the consumer suffers, having to filter through a lot of nonsense to find the reality in stories.

Think this deflategate nonsense would have been news 10 years ago? No a chance.

  78. It’s looking it will be at least 10 games, loss of next year’s 1st round pick, and a few fines.

It’s about time Goodell does something right.

  79. Punishment should fit the crime. Patriots played with manipulated footballs in their home games after that Jet game. So that’s 5 regular season games and two playoff games. So Brady should be suspended for 5 regular season games and 2 playoff games should they reach there.

  80. Agreed..every team cheats when you get busted you pay the consequences but the consequences should fit the crime… a team that consistently had players doing PEDs is more of a culture of cheating and and PEDs give far more of an advantage..(that punishment for those repeat offending teams is typically 3-4 games) The .5lbs of pressure in a football made not huge difference other than the mental confidence it may have supplied….also with drug testing there is virtual proof and not more probable than not but…being a bias Pats fan..I still give him the benefit of doubt…but the NFL has a second agenda if they give him more than a few games IMO

  81. This entire process has been laughable and I don’t even like the Pats. I could barely watch an entire game last year. The NFL has become a joke on SNL.

I’m sure other fans are also on the fence whether they will continue supporting this pony league.

  82. Any idiot that thinks Tom Brady should just hand over his phone…The league is going to keep it for awhile, not just glance at a few texts and hand it back. He’s Tom Brady, the guy is married to a super model, plays pickup basketball with Michael Jordan and rubs elbows with all types of celebrities. There’s going to be a lot in that phone that is no business of the NFL, but the way the world works you know random texts will leak to media outlets, or even worse, his contact list. Even the Wells report had texts from the equipment guy to his mom that weren’t related to Deflategate. Brady was right not to hand over his phone.
His punishment should only include what they think he did relative to balls being deflated, even then he’ll appeal and I haven’t seen one thing yet that says Brady told anyone to tamper with the balls after inspection, only a lot of reporting about how Tom likes the balls with less air than the 16lbs they had for the Jets game. His biggest mistake is not saying from the beginning, “Yeah I get mad at the equipment guys when the balls are too hard, and yeah I give them gifts for taking care of me by keeping the balls at or near 12.5psi.” It probably would have been a lie but there has been no evidence yet that could have proven it to be a lie.

Obviously TB12 cared, and went out of his way to cheat.

  84. NE fumbles less than any other team since the new rules regarding footballs in 2007. Deflated balls are to Tom’s preference and help WRs and RB secured the ball.

NE affected the turnover battle by deflating footballs. Look at the fumble stats by team since 2007. NE fumbles less than the other 31 teams despite playing in cold weather. Outside of NE, dome and warm weather teams fumble the least.

I wasn’t much of a fan of his before all this, but I’ll start to like him if he fights the NFL over this.”

    1. Correct, but the Pats been told to knock it off and they kept doing it.
    2. This started in 2007 at the request of Brady and Manning. Think about the irony here.
    3. The officials changed the balls at halftime.
    4. This is just your opinion, let’s stick with the facts.

  86. Kraft needs to hire his own investigating team to investigate this investigation. In what galaxy is the “prosecution” the only side that does the investigation?

Some questions to be answered are:

If ball PSI is so crucial to the integrity the game, why is this the first time in NFL history balls were tested at halftime?

Why were only 4 of the Cols balls tested?

I would also like the cell phone records of the Colts and Ravens to see what plans they had to execute this sting.

And finally who were the people in the league office leaking information? (now can you understand Tom not wanting his personal information given to such a trustworthy organization?)

  87. Goodell calls them not as they are but how he sees them. Facts don’t matter. What Goodell thinks matters. Goodell’s investigation, start to finish, was a sham. He is the proverbial emperor with no clothes. He has now gone after the star of the last two super champions, Marshawn Lynch and Tom Brady.

Goodell believe he can repair his tarnished image by being a big-game hunter. Most of us know the guys standing over a majestic animal look and are fools.

Shame on Goodell and those that are doing his bidding by proxy.

Just stop. You are only embarrassing yourself and other Pats fans by repeating lies.

  89. While I think Brady is guilty the Wells report is pure unadulterated garbage filled with bias and completely in line with the NFL’s agenda.

What amazes me is why is the NFL doing this? How does this investigation, played out in the public eye through the media, help the NFL’s brand? Do they think it helps their credibility by dragging the Super Bowl winner through the mud? Because it doesn’t. Even if they hammer Brady and give the Patriots a fine for not fully cooperating it doesn’t make up for the clown shows that were the Ray Rice situation and Bounty-Gate. The league is a complete JOKE!

I have my issues with Paul Tagliabue, most notably his handling of head injuries during his tenure, but a situation like this would have never happened under his watch. Because in the end it just hurts the shield. This should have been dealt with internally. The public doesn’t need to know about 1PSI in footballs. Just like the public doesn’t need to know about what happens in a defensive team meeting (see Bounty-Gate).

The question is now can the NFL ever regain it’s credibility? A good start would be firing Goodell in my opinion.

  90. Pat’s fans need to squash the faux outrage. This is how the world works. You break the rules you pay consequences.

What’s it say that the reigning SB Champion, and MVP, is not only an established cheater and known liar, and as if that’s not enough, he cheated to advance himself, and his team, to the SB without any consequences?

Kraft won’t fight the suspension. Why should he? For the dirty deed Brady won Kraft his first SB championship in a decade. Was it worth it Mr. Kraft?

  91. I’m looking forward to the greatest qb ever to get suspended and then completely destroying the NFL front office in the appeals process……the level of incompetence displayed by the league in the process has been unparalleled

  92. I find it absolutely hilarious that all the Patriot haters think Goodell is a joke and must go regarding all other areas of the NFL. But the Wells Report…which Goodell commissioned…was brilliant and should be used as the Bible in burying Brady.

    I hate hashtags, but

    #hypocrites

Apply ideal gas law AND Boyles law, which accounts for the rain, and the loss in psi recorded is possible given the conditions that night. And let’s not forget that 3 of the 4 Colts balls measured at halftime were UNDER the allowed limit. So they were playing with under inflated footballs too. The 4th Indy ball was recorded incorrectly per the report. And why were only 4 Indy balls tested at halftime? Time constraints? I thought this was important. The game couldn’t be delayed for 2-3 minutes? I am in no way blaming the Colts for this at all. I’m just debunking all of the idiots who have said that “the Colts’ balls weren’t deflated.” I’m here to tell you that yes, they were.

Let’s also not forget that in the POST game psi measurements, one of the Patriots balls was OVER the allowed limit and all of the others were right around 13-13.5. Does it not stand to reason that the balls lost psi in the second half as well? So, when the balls were reinflated at halftime, it seems to me that the league (the refs) OVER inflated the footballs and started the second half with illegal footballs (football OVER the 13.5 limit). No mention of that in the Wells Report. I thought they were going to be transparent?

Also, stop taking those texts literally and put them into context as Brady’s agent says. They were made AFTER a game in which the refs illegally OVER inflated the footballs at pregame inspection (to 16 psi) and Brady complained to Jastremski about. Apparently, the refs don’t give a damn about the psi range as evidence by this tidbit of info revealed in the Wells Report and also by the fact that even though the league told Walt Anderson to be vigilant about the ball pressure in the AFCCG that he didn’t even record the pregame measurements. Real important indeed.

Anyone who believes the Wells Report at face value is a moron. The NFL (ie Goodell) said they would be transparent and Wells would reveal EVERYTHING. After all that posturing, they have a 243 page report that reveals nothing because it does not contain everything especially context.

Also, Exponent, the company that consulted on the report, was once called Failure Group Inc. Failure Group Inc has defended the tobacco industry saying smoking does not cause cancer. They also claimed that Chevron dumping oil waste did not cause cancer while the largest shareholder of Chevron was on Exponent’s board (ummm conflict of interest). They also claimed that asbestos didn’t cause mesothelioma or cancer. In summation, a real stand up company to consult for you. The LA Times was quoted as saying in an article that Exponent “tends to deliver to clients the reports they need to mount a public defense.”

This could have and should have been handled on the Tuesday after the game with the league saying that some of the balls used in the game were under the allowed psi pressure and the league is fining the Patriots $25K. Story over.

  93. And for the record……. We have seen Goodell lie publicly multiple times (see concussion issue, see bounty-gate, see Ray Rice investigation), the league office destroy, taint, and make up evidence in it’s recent string of “investigations”, and the league constantly leak information to the media so why would anyone turn over their personal cell phone to the league???

I think Brady is guilty and that he should be punished. But anyone who says he should cooperate fully with the league and turn over his cell phone clearly hasn’t been paying attention recently. What has the NFL done recently to earn the trust of it’s players that if they cooperate fully the information will be dealt with fairly and in confidence??? Anyone? Anyone?

  94. “Probably did it” should equal no suspension. It’s an under inflated football not drugs, physical abuse, bullying, dog fighting, etc…

Fine Brady if you feel the need too, but a suspension is crazy given the lack of hard evidence and the nature of the “crime”.

Ray Rice gets 2 games for knocking out his girlfriend
Plaxico Burress 4 games for shooting himself
Saints ‘Bounty Gate’: Fujita 3 games, Will Smith 4 games, Anthony Hargrove 8 games.

If Brady is suspended it should be for no more than 2 games given the lack of hard evidence.

  95. Be great if this makes it to a “real” court of law.

Kraft, Belechick, Ball boys all testifying under oath. Then we can find out about all the cheating we don’t know about.

Yes, Tommy, take it to court.

  96. My question today is Ted Bruschi going to have one of those youtube crying video moments where he’s tearfully shouting at the cameras “Leave Tommy alone ….”.

  97. Why would the NFL do this to themselves? more bad pub. Could have been handled differently
This year we have had to deal with murder, serial rapists, baby killers, drug fueled gangsters, wife beaters, child abusers, and ball Tampere’s.
One of these things is a bit lesser than the others
And it could have been avoided all together

  98. Watching the NE fans twist on a string is priceless!

Dumbest excuses I’ve even heard. You’re an embarrassmentt to sports.

  99. Why in Gods green earth would Brady turn over his cell phone? You saw AGAIN this morning that the NFL leaked out ANOTHER story. Leak after leak after leak. And you want Brady to turn over his cell?

  100. Tom sue the league sue Goodell and take that bozo to the wood shed. How can you punish someone based on maybe and based on the fact that the majority of QB’s in history have and still do doctor footballs. Guys beat women, guys murder, guys do drugs and take illegal PED’s but 1 psi and the world is ending. People are so jealous of the Pats it’s really sad but the worst is the fact that the NFL office is full of ex Jets employees and Colts supporters. Remember Goodell is an ex Jet Employee

  101. Goodell and the NFL lied when they said they knew nothing of the Ray Rice tape.

    ———————————————————

Kraft says he won’t fight. Doesn’t mean that Brady won’t

  103. This argument that it was a sting by the Colts is ridiculous. Did you read Grigson’s email? He was trying to prevent it, he said he wanted them monitored to ensure a level playing field.

Even if it was a “sting”, if you aren’t doing anything wrong, the “sting” fails.

We can be pretty certain the Colts wouldn’t have won had the Patriots not cheated, but can we say the same about the Baltimore game? One turnover, or one missed 3rd down pass could have caused a different outcome in that game.

  104. Regaurdless if Brady is suspended or not you still will have a coach that grooms qbs into cheating. So to get rid of cheating you need to cut the head of the snake off too and of course I mean his coach who has also been cheating.

  105. Suspend him. Do whatever you have to so you keep the integrity of the game in tact.

When will you come out and start scrutinizing other teams the way you do the Pats? This league acts like they are the only ones to commit any kind of violations.

QB’s have been tampering with balls for over 20 years, at least. Why single out one person? Because the C0lts alerted the league office? Imagine what Belichick knows about the rest of the league. What happens when he starts making concerned calls to the league office? How many other teams will be investigated?

The last time the Pats face this kind of controversy, they finished one game shy of the perfect season. This year, they may just get that perfect season. In the salary cap era. Under heavy scrutiny.

While Goodell starts investigating the rest of the league. After they have all been warned. Something the Pats did not get the benefit of.

  106. I’d like to say this will clean up the game but Belichick and the Patriots will just figure out new ways to cheat. They probably have drones doing surveillance on opposing teams right now. I’m sure they already know how to intercept plays that are called in. The team is successful because it focuses on how to manipulate the rules in a way that may not be technically illegal but completely violates the spirit of fair play.

  107. I think about 5 of all the commenters on this site have actually read the Wells report. Headlines drive engagement and get readers, not provide a synopsis. Not justifying any of the action, but if this is caught in game, it is a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and possibly a small fine. It is no different than wearing illegal unapproved equipment. Some of you guys calling for year suspensions or 8 games are absurd. Little chance anything he gets is upheld on appeal unless it is specifically for being uncooperative.

  109. Another PR move likely to end in the courts and be overturned. The imperial commissioner’s office will have it’s powers regulated and a court imposed standard of proof and what constitutes cooperation.

Odds on a new commissioner? Condoleezza Rice?

Grigson has opened a whole new competitive battlefield. Perhaps we can call them the “Squealing Games” or simply name the activity after Grigson. Now each team will have investigators stalking each team in hopes of gaining a competitive advantage by proving a violation of the rules. Jason Taylor said that everyone cheats in professional athletics.

What a way to destroy the game and business of football!

It will be fun offseason watching the owner dynamics between the Colts and Patriots.

And to think this could have all been avoided by the NFL telling the Patriots that they would inspect the balls at halftime and the end of the game. Wonder if the person receiving Grigson’s complaint will have a job with the NFL this time next year.

  110. I haven’t heard the answer to this question so anyone know: is Brady’s cell phone paid for by the pats or is it his personal one. If it’s his personal phone I can understand his reluctance. I also think the suspension will be 4 games which would make his return the Colts game. The nfl is a master at marketing their product…can you imagine the hype. Superbowlesque.

good point. though i will add it was always like a little like that, but with social media and the 24-hour news cycle, it has gotten far worse. just check out any trending story on FB, and all the sheep posting the exact same thing like their all-too-propagandized opinion is so important people *must* care what they have to say.

…kind of like the sheep here calling for brady’s head.

  116. Mass hysteria has turned the findings of a sham investigation, that found Brady was “generally aware” of “inappropriate activities”, and that such activities were not certain but rather more probable than not, into a mob calling for Tom’s figurative crucifixion.

The NFL was caught being incompetent. How do incompetents in power respond to looking bad? They flex their muscle while claiming moral authority. A president might start a war. Goodell chooses to go after guys like Lynch and Brady.

We all know what Brad did the last time Goodell hung a scarlet letter on the Patriots jerseys.

I hope the Pats and Seahawks play in Super Bowl 50. Tat would be poetic justice.

  117. The suspension won’t be long. Maybe they will do what Florida st. did for Winston, suspended him for a half. Goodell needs to apply some of the same rules here as he did against Hardy. He pointed out that Hardy did not fully cooperate with the NFL and he ended up with 10 games, so he has to apply the thong in Brady’s case.

  118. Now that Kangaroo Court has rendered it’s verdict, and leaked the punishment to a NY Post writer in order to further demonstrate it’s constant state of disarray… when are the owners going to get down to real business and replace the clown in the Commissioner’s office? He is an idiot, a complete idiot. He could have picked up the phone, called Kraft, and told him to make Belichick aware of the other team’s concerns and that it needs to stop NOW or else. None of this stupid DeflateGate crap had to happen. The league previously warned other teams about similar funny business, and that was that. What they did to the Patriots was FAR WORSE than what the Patriots did to the balls. Why? Because everything Roger Goodell does is stupid! This was NOT an “independent investigation” Kraft should demand a do-over with someone that doesn’t work for the NFL on a regular basis, sorry.

  119. Personally I think Brady wanted the ball at the absolute lowest legal PSI or lower if possible. I also think there was some shenanigans to make that happen. But with all the power and resources at the nfls disposal, we cant get more than “probable”. Sorry but if you cant totally get the goods, it should have been dropped or left for another day. Guilty or not, I just don’t feel good with “probable”. It goes against the innocent until PROVEN guilty that’s been ingrained in all of us. We are not red China.

  120. You people all realize the NFL is a business first. Roger Goodell walked in and during his time in the position literally doubled the value of all NFL teams. He works for the owners as their CEO basically to make the teams money.
Any outcome on suspensions will be based on the long term financial implications to the NFL brand.
They are in damage control mode as we speak obviously.

  121. A year for everybody !

Bountygate punishment! Rodger set the bar high it has to be the same. Heck what Brady and bill did Acutually changed the outcome of games for 7 years! One year is a small price to pay.

How many times would coaches have not been fired with another win?

How much better have the pats been at holding on to the ball since the rule change?

  122. “If Brady is suspended for one game, the Patriote should forfeit the game, and see how the NFL, and opposing teams like losing TV and game day revenue. Freaking witch hunt.”

Only the TV revenue is already agreed to. They don’t get paid based on how many people watch. The league has a television contract in place. And losing game revenue only hurts the Patriots, not to mention they’re automatically taking a loss on their record. What if they forfeit a game they would have won?

This is why fans should not run teams.

  125. Cross: how do you know the footballs for the Super Bowl were monitored by a third party? Just asking because I haven’t seen that.

  126. The repeated leaks from the NFL front office are intential. He’s done this during every NFL scandal/controversy that’s occurred under his watch. Goodell and the front office use the leaks and other misinformation to gauge public opinion. Goodell only reacts after there is a problem and receives media and fan backlash. He never does anything to prevent NFL issues that could be handled internally. Dude needlessly drags the NFL brand through the mud on issues that could easily be dealt with quickly in house. Goodell needs to go.

  127. Bill Polian even acknowledged that a probability in a case like this is 51/49. That means there is a 49% chance Brady didn’t do anything wrong. Goodell needs to acknowledge that. If he pulls the trigger on 6 or 8 games, an arbitrator will overturn it in a second. Maybe 2 games will be accepted.

  128. “Mr Kraft’s demand for an apology makes him look like a buffoon now.”

    ——————————————–

Truth be told…it made him look like a buffoon even THEN.

    (Just saying…)

  129. I would assume the ball at the Super Bowl were properly inflated. And he played pretty well in that game. So why cheat ? Because cheaters cheat that’s what they do it’s a culture cheating in New England. Win if you can lose if you must but always cheat

  130. He got the superbowl trophy and the superbowl MVP while the balls were closely monitored by a third party. I guess another one of your arguments is wrong. Don’t you hate with the truth gets in the way of a good troll rant.

Just like most New England apologists you fail to recognize the point. The point is that this cheating in a few snippets from these text messages is going on in October. Which also means he is probably cheating in more than just one regular season month and the AFC championship game. Like any rational person you can extrapolate that this has been going on for a long time. Or as long as Tommy has had little girl hands. He got caught in fact during the regular season which probably taints every home win a little bit.

  131. That’s right…

This means Roger Kraft-dell can’t possibly mess with his staunchest benefactor and certainly the punishment will NOT fit the crime… Think of how easy Hotlanta and the Browns got off… The same will be for Brady…

He’ll probably set a new precedent and give Brady a 1 quarter of a game suspension….

  132. If you are against Cheating, you are labeled a Hater.

Punishment: Brady’s jersey name should be changed to Cheater for 1 season.

  133. This whole fiasco seriously makes me want to stop watching the NFL. This is a joke. The league has gone downhill since the commissioner took over. Everything is geared towards casual fans and fantasy football dorks, most of whom are also casual fans, or at least fans who look at the game the wrong way. And now, the NFL is allowing a mountain to be made out of a molehill. An under or over inflated ball is like driving 70 in a 65 zone, and solely because it happened to the face of the league’s most disliked franchise, the sheep who believe what the media sells them jump right in line with their pitchforks. You can lie to all of us, but go into your bathroom, look in the mirror, and ask yourself HONESTLY if you ever even considered the PSI of a game ball as a so-called competitive advantage. I GUARANTEE you didn’t. Whether or not Brady is guilty or innocent, I don’t care. I’m just astounded by the stupidity of the average American for buying this hook, line, and sinker. I bet most of you didn’t even read the full report but are speaking on it like an expert. And make no mistake, this is 100% about who it is. The thirst for Brady’s blood is so obviously just because it’s Tom Brady and the Patriots. If this is Matt Ryan or Jay Cutler, this is a non-issue. If Brady gets suspended more than ONE game, this is an absolute farce, given that guys KO’ing their wives only get two games until you provide video evidence. There is no consistency with discipline in the NFL. But the uninformed angry mob wants blood, so Roger will satiate them with a relatively harsh sentence. And why the hell should Brady give his phone up? Ted Wells isn’t “Detective” Ted Wells or “Agent” Ted Wells. He’s not a government official, so Brady is not obligated to provide his personal phone records. And whether you think that infers that he’s hiding something is irrelevant. I mean, I have nothing to lose here as a fan. I have no legacy to protect. You’re a loser if you’re living and dying by the successes and failures of other grown men. Take all four banners away for all I care, it’s too late, I already lived it. As far as I’m concerned, I’m complacent. I’m totally satisfied with the results of this Patriots regime, I’ll never see anything like this again, and most fans won’t EVER see it. So I win. If some idiot from a part of the country that doesn’t matter thinks otherwise, what the hell do I care? It’s the public reaction that bothers me at the same time, because I know I’m living in a nation full of petty, irrational people. Get over it. Stop celebrating. Your team still sucks. This whole thing is a metaphor for the average person today. Rather than looking to yourself and figuring out what YOU should do to improve yourself, instead you’d rather point at someone else and point out why THEY’RE at fault. If you truly think a football with a little less pressure makes the difference between winning and losing, then you are truly a moron. You are a Mountain Dew drinking, Dorito eating slob with marginal intelligence that probably lives in areas outside of New England, where studies more accurate than the Wells Report will prove it’s “more probable than not” that you are less intelligent than people from the northeast. Pathetic.

  134. One year Brady, one year Belichick. The reason Brady wouldn’t turn over his phone records is because they implicate Beli-cheat too! Besides, the NFL suspended Sean Payton for a year even though they concluded he knew nothing about Bountygate. As a head coach, ignorance is NO excuse.

  135. Why isn’t Nick culpable here. They knew about tb is for 7 weeks before doing anything. Didn’t that affect the integrity of the game. Goodell is a huge liar too how about suspension for him?

  136. gizzmonic says:

Personally I think Brady wanted the ball at the absolute lowest legal PSI or lower if possible. I also think there was some shenanigans to make that happen. But with all the power and resources at the nfls disposal, we cant get more than “probable”. Sorry but if you cant totally get the goods, it should have been dropped or left for another day. Guilty or not, I just don’t feel good with “probable”. It goes against the innocent until PROVEN guilty that’s been ingrained in all of us. We are not red China.

Gizz, the standard of proof for the NFL is “probable” in these cases, similar to the difference between civil and criminal cases in the law… That’s the protocol they use.

Based on the report, it’s pretty easy to ‘connect the dots’ so to speak… Brady was ‘aware’ that something was going on. Perhaps he didn’t concern himself with details (who, what, when, where) but his preference for inflation was well known to those who handled the footballs… There were texts that implied Brady’s involvement. This isn’t something that happened just for that particular game, either. This has been going on for a while… I think Wells did his best to ‘diffuse’ the guilt but some things you can’t just get around.

  137. The Pats fans don’t get it. The rest of the country knows The Patriots have a culture of cheating. It is proven, they have a track record of being caught. This culture goes all the way back to the 1982 Snowplow game vs. Dolphins. For the record the plow guy was a convicted burglar on a work release program from a local prison. The cheating continued through the Belichick years with Spygate and is obviously still going on today.

The standard argument for Patriots fans when caught in these situations is “everyone cheats we are the only ones that get caught”. That does not make you innocent or excuse you from your transgressions. That would be equivalent of a looter claiming “everyone else was rioting and stealing. I am the only one that got caught”. So, if that is the case do we let the looter go? The Patriots also got caught, looting the integrity of the National Football League.

The Patriots fans will argue they blew out the Colts in the second half of the playoff game with properly inflated balls. You Patriots fans are right 1 psi would not have changed the game. It does make us wonder what else is going on in the organization and during game day. It is not about a deflated ball it is about a culture of cheating and now we know it starts with Belichick to Brady all the way down to the ball boys.

What else did we not catch that day or over the years? If the Patriots have been cheating since Spygate, did they even deserve to be in that game?

  138. Just suspend him, and be done with it. No one except Patriot fans will care, in fact they will be thrilled they don’t have to play HIM.
What is up with this team, they can’t seem to play without “sailing close to the wind”. Read the rule book New England.

    ———————
Sorry scguy2011 but even Wells found BB innocent. This will just be a TB short suspension, (which he prob should appeal, given that other offenders weren’t suspended and TB’s guilt is merely likely rather than red-handed).

  140. Someone mentioned the low fumble rate for NE. Anyone ever think it may have something to do with the coach? In MN, AP fumbled 3 or 4 times in a game but stayed in. In NE, you fumble and you may not play for the rest of the year.

  141. If this were any other Player/Team, Goodell would wait until the start of the season, and then draw out the appeals process as long as possible.

When has the penalty of any other player been rushed to be announced in a week?

    Veiled Favoritism.

  142. All u pat supporters are funny he cheated to enhance his performance in a playoff game brady has to Cheat to win pats will always be cheaters and should have their Superbowl taken away NCAA style

  143. Shadywarrior maybe you should have written the report for Ted Wells. You don’t have to write a book on this site, please. Just make your point, and go back to sleep.

  144. Once a cheater, always a cheater.

I remember a few years ago, the fans in our section yelled to Kraft about he felt being caught cheating at a kids’ game. He became absolutely furious and asked security to kick out our entire section. The security guard responded with “I can’t kick people out for telling the truth.”

  145. The Wells report is a joke.

All you have to look at is the halftime ball pressure readings. ALL 11 of the Patriots balls were .30 to .45 lower using one official’s pressure gauge compared to the other. But 3 of the 4 Colts balls were higher in pressure when tested by the same official.

    How is that possible?

Also, The NFL conclusion is that with the assumption that if the Patriots’ balls were initially at 12.5 psi and the Colts at 13 psi, the Pats’ balls reacted differently(more pressure change) to the weather than the Colts’ balls. Howevere, if the Colts balls were initially at 13.5 they come closer to reacting the same. Why use the minimum 12.5 for one assumption and not the max – 13.5 for the other???

  146. Pats4ring…

The point is more so that Brady and the Pats hindered the investigation, which is a more severe rules violation than the act they committed… Changing the level of the playing field, no matter how minuscule the amount is still cheating.

The Pats have a history of stretching the rules. The only thing to me is that the organization will likely not get touched…Wells did see to it that they were cleared, even tho it’s their employees that altered the inflation…

Either way, fear not, you guys got the trophy, that’s not going anywhere… The thing is, those of us who were not necessarily Pats fans know that it’s tainted…

And don’t worry about the discipline, it won’t fit the crime… They don’t want to add insult to injury on tarnishing shield. Brady and Pats have done enough tarnishing… Suspending Brady too harshly will only tarnish the shield more… Goodell will back down…

  148. Goodell better decide on an appropriate and stiff suspension. First he gave Rice a paltry 2 games, then the elevator video came out, which led to league embarrassment and an indefinite suspension.

At some point unless the Pats have already paid McNally off, somebody will offer him a pile of cash to spill the beans. Then the real scope of this intentional fraud will come out. Bradys image will forever be tarnished, as will the Pats.

  149. The only punishment suitable is to strip the Pats of their Superbowl win. Period. Anything else will be perceived as a slap on the wrist by that spineless Commissioner who just happens to be besties with Kraft.

    ————————————————

Great statement! I am a Giants fan. I would be happy for Belichick if he won 4 non-tainted Super Bowls with the previously 0 Championships/Super Bowl Pats. However, I am humiliated that he was ever part of my favorite team. He could’ve won 1 or 2 clean Super Bowls with Brady. Nobody would complain. The cheating comes from the Coach/GM and Owner. This above Brady’s head. He’s just one of 52 cheating for 15 years every week. I exclude Belichick’s run from the Pats so they still have 0 Championships/Super Bowls. Everyone would’ve loved him nationwide.

I am equally as humiliated with Sean Payton and Bounty Gate. I was happy he won a Super Bowl there until that happened.

Then I disowned them both. We beat Belichick twice in the Super Bowl , and won 2 with him as the Asst. Coach. I have more reason to love him than hate him, but a cheat’s a cheat. You lose my support there. That’s where I don’t get Kraft and Pats fans defending it. If I was Kraft then I would’ve fired him after Spygate. Also so his coaches and players didn’t have to subject to the ridicule, investigations, and suspensions. Win the right way, and there wouldn’t be a Pats hater in the world except for the AFC crap of a division.

The Pats best case scenario is they Pete Rose Belichick and never win another clean championship until a coach does it the right way.

The Pats worst case scenario is that Kraft keeps behaving like a toddler on the podium, demanding apologies, blocking investigations, and being forced to sell the team by the 31 owners had enough of Kraft not cleaning house himself. If Kraft can’t fire people that cheat religiously then he shouldn’t own a team.

  157. The fun only begins! The other shoe to drop is the 2 locker room staff being fired, a fine and loss of draft pick. The best part will be when the two bitter ex employees do their “exclusive tell all” interview this summer and make Tom look like the cheater he is! It’s funny that the guy who referred to himself as “the deflator” has already referred to ” going to ESPN” already in text messages.

    Can’t wait!

  158. Can’t wait till this crap goes away! Suspend Tom for a few games! The Patriots are still the best team!! Let’s get this over with!

Then how do you explain the second half when he was nearly perfect?

How do you explain the SB?

  160. Let me help Brady out here for a sec.

“I like the balls to feel a certain way. I always thought we had leeway in getting the balls to feel comfortable to the touch. I’m not the only QB in the league who believes that and I never thought of it as a specific competitive advantage that was not available to others.”

Too Late. That is all he had to say and this whole thing would have been blown over in a heartbeat months ago.

Now they can’t fire those two equipment people because all they have to do is lawyer up and throw Brady under the bus unless he has a very rich bank account for them in Costa Rica. If they do get fired, I hope they can find jobs again because it’s not fair they should be made to take the fall.

  161. I have read it all, the articles creating misinformation and those stating the hard truth. I have seen it all, as well. There is Brady, Belichick and Kraft; each denying any knowledge of the incident. I immediately thought back and realized that I had heard all of this from these same people before a couple of times. These three are repeat liars making millions from those of us who love the sport. These three have conspired to suck all of the “truth” and “integrity” from the game on multiple occasions, yet we allow them to continue. Roger Goodell works for Kraft and is good friends with him, as well. I do not believe that the commissioner will want to impose much of a sanction on Brady, even though the Patriots are three time losers. We can only hope that the other owners have decided to make an example out of this team and will force the commissioner to make a strong statement with a fair sentence.

    I say:
    1. Brady gets a year suspension.
    2. Belichick gets a year suspension.
    3. Kraft is stripped of last years Super Bowl title and publicly reprimanded for his lack of oversight and controll over his team.

  162. Will they announce Aaron Rodgers’ suspension at the same time?

Since, y’know, he admitted overinflating his game balls to get an unfair advantage…

  168. Not trusting the New York Daily Tabloid here. I know half the world has their torches and pitchforks out for Brady’s head, but even the Wells report itself (something many of you obviously haven’t actually read) clearly states that Brady’s linkage to this is much less clear than the equipment guys. I still think Brady is fined for not providing cell phone but no suspension for being “at least generally aware” that something “probably” happened.

  169. So multiple league sources are leaking info about the suspension, eh? But people are questioning why Brady didn’t want to hand his personal information over to these incompetent witch hunters?

  170. For All you IDIOTS that think Brady was asked to just hand over his phone, YOU’RE WRONG.

Brady’s lawyers would have possession of the phone at all times and would screen every single item before handing the info over. Brady’s lawyer’s only had to hand over texts that specifically mention “air pressure” “deflated” or “deflation” etc etc.

GET OFF YOU STUPID PEDESTAL AND ACCEPT YOUR TEAM CHEATS. TAWMY IS A CHEATER, BILL IS A CHEATER. DEAL.

  171. Cry me a river Patriot fans. OK, they got nailed with that Spygate stuff. I had pretty much had forgotten about it. Well, when they did this with the balls, that brought it back to light with the thought “Oh no, here we go again”. The Pats and Brady are tainted and the Pats fans are in denial. The Pats fans can twist it any they want, but at the end of the day, Brady is guilty and should be suspended appropriately.

The Atlanta and the noise, the Carolina/Vikings game, and the Brady with under inflated balls are three totally different things. The Pats fans just refuse to see the difference. Atlanta cooperated, got punished, and they took it. Carolina and Minnesota did it out in the open, were told to stop, and they stopped. The Pats tampered with the balls behind closed doors during the game and refused to cooperate once the story broke.

As far as the problem with the sting being done, you DON’T tell the people you are stinging that they are about to be stung. Get real. Let’s tell all the drug dealers ahead of time we are setting up a sting. Are we learning yet????

    —————————————–

As I mentioned earlier, and as haters have done, you have failed to put the texts into CONTEXT. These exchanges occurred AFTER a game in which Brady complained about how hard the footballs were only to find out that when they were measured post game, the footballs were 16 psi, which is far above the legal limit. So, the refs entered a game using illegal footballs that they inflated. In hindsight, this, in combination with Walt Anderson not even recording the pregame psi at the AFCCG even though he was told to monitor it with vigilance, lends me to believe that the refs (ie the NFL) simply don’t care that much about this rule.

Put the goddamn texts into CONTEXT! It’s called hyperbole. Geesh.

  174. You can’t strip the Pats of the Super Bowl win. There might be players on that team that had no idea about the issue. That said, guys are saying tommy win a Super Bowl with reg balls… True, but he GOT to the Super Bowl using flat balls. Pats Homers can’t fight that. Brady shouldn’t lose the Super Bowl win, but the punishment should be much more severe because he benefitted the most possibly due to cheating. I hope he gets a year…

  177. Not the same as heating cold balls.

Deflating balls is cheating and is the reasons the Pats don’t fumble.

Brady and Belicheat should be out for 16 games.

  178. I am a Patriots fan and I expect Brady to be suspended but some things don’t add up.

From what I have read a ton of preparation goes into getting the Footballs ready and this is true for all QBs. As many as 24 footballs are prepared with the exterior worked on for up to 20 minutes per ball. 12 footballs are then selected by Brady and the PSI is set at the low range which is 12.5. The balls are then perfect and game ready for Brady and at a minimum this is 100% the case for any road game where no tampering can occur.

My question is, if the balls are in perfect condition for Brady with a many man hours already spent, why in a playoff game would he want some part-time employee hide in a bathroom and spend about 1 minute and 40 seconds on the floor sticking needles in balls with no way and no time to properly measure the results or make the results the same for every ball. What is the point? So much time is spent making the footballs perfect by a guy who has that as a job to then offset it by have a part-time guy sitting on the floor, wetting the needle and sticking it in every ball for heat he hopes is the exact amount of time in 12 different balls as fast as possible.

That sounds dumb to me. I actually could see a couple of locker room guys trying to do Brady a favor to make him happy. In addition, after accounting for the drop in PSI due to the weather and comparing the drop in PSi in the Colts balls that started at 13 PSI the Patriots average drop was around 1/2 a PSI, and no consistent. This is hardly the Sports scandal that it is made out to be.

I honesty think the locker rooms guys may have done something but it was not some master plan and it was poorly executed and basically had no effect. I also expect some PUBLIC statements from the locker room guys soon that will clarify what happened and you can count on the fact that if the locker room guys speak out, Brady’s role will me minimized rightly of wrongly

  179. The suspension is based 98% on the cover up aspect. If you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar just own it! No level headed NFL fan honestly thinks PSI=asterisk, Tom. Also Tom really needed better Minions. Gru would have gladly borrowed him Chuck and Dave.

Jerry Rice admits to using STICKUM Cheating, Rodgers admits INFLATING his ball over the legal limit Cheating, and Dallas who misused the salary cap, and still did not win Cheating. Funny on how people only care about those who are on top.

What is he hiding. Only in America is lying the norm. I hate PDI’s.

  188. Brady’s smug smirking lying bothers me a lot more than the actual offense…4 games minimum

So, by that stupid logic, it’s considered “cheating” with quotes?

  192. Brady cheated with the object of the sport which affects, not only him, but his entire offense. It is easier to throw, catch and secure the ball, reducing fumbles over the course of the season. Brady and his offense benefited from this cheating for at least a year based on the evidence in the Wells report. Brady deserves a one year suspension.

  193. When the dust settles from this drama, I would like to see the NFL adopt a more uniform handling of game balls
A league official should go to Sports Authority and buy 2 footballs. Hand one to each team at the start of the game. That way there would be no issues and the “integrity” of the game will be upheld.
But then completion percentages would drop to maybe 35% and people wouldn’t spend money to see crappy football.

At the same time the NFL needs to rip the domes off stadiums in Dallas, Indy, NO. Etc. it hurts the “competive balance” to have Luck and Bree’s and Romo throw in perfect conditions while Eli and Peyton and Cutler have to deal with cold or wind or snow.

Where are all the “integrity of the game ” posters on this issue?

Marcellus Wiley called the football a guitar and any guitarist knows his instrument. On the flip side, shouldn’t a guitarist be allowed to tune it?
Nobody would hand Jimmy Page a guitar off the rack and expect him to play Stairway to Heaven.

I’m glad guys like Rodgers and Eli came out and said they like there footballs a certain way. Don’t you think the NFL knew about this around the league and turned a blind eye because rating are up, fantasy football is a huge and no one really cares?

  194. This is the best news I’ve heard all week. Now if Sheriff Goodell will stick to his previously overused guns and give this unremorseful, smug prima-donna at least an 8 game suspension, we can finally stop talking about nothing wrong the Patriots ever do seems to stick. Sorry Tom Shady, the chickens are coming home to roost.

  195. @dan7800 says:

Once a cheater, always a cheater.

I remember a few years ago, the fans in our section yelled to Kraft about he felt being caught cheating at a kids’ game. He became absolutely furious and asked security to kick out our entire section. The security guard responded with “I can’t kick people out for telling the truth.”

“NFL aware of game ball incident during Panthers-Vikings”

Just a warning for those two teams. I wonder why…
    ——————————————–
As been said many, many times there are major differences with the Vikings/Panthers incident versus the Brady incident.

    1) The Vikings AND Panthers were doing it with both knowing. Doesn’t make it right but neither team gained an advantage over the other.

    2) There was no hiding or lying about it. They were told to stop and they did.

    3) Even with the NFL warning ALL NFL teams that was against the rules, the Patriots (Brady) still did it. They had a warning and didn’t take heed to it. The Vikings/Panthers had a warning and stopped.

Now Brady’s agent is trying to say the NFL should have warned them. The fact is they did back when the Vikings/Panthers incident happened. The problem is the Patriots didn’t care as evidenced by the text messages and the psi of the footballs that were under league policy.

People can complain all they want but the fact is the Patriots had the opportunity to stop and they didn’t. Cut and dry.

  197. This was just not a PED for Tom Brady.

This is collusion of many Patriots to cheat the rules and then not come clean.
    The balls boys definitely knew.
The WRs had to know a deflated ball.
The Center had to know a deflated ball.
    The Coach had to know.

Haloti Ngata affected his performance. No one else was involved, and he came clean. Haloti got 4 games at the end of the season when trying to make the playoffs.

Suspension: 8 games at the end of the season.

  198. Suspense will not matter. Odds of the Pats still winning the AFC and making a deep playoff run….unlikley

  199. Suspense will not matter. Odds of the Pats still winning the AFC and making a deep playoff run….probably not

  200. More despicable NFL leaks, and seriously this is purely to pressure Brady over the weekend to concede to the league office. The NFL has turned into a joke. With these endless leaks its no wonder Brady hesitated to submit his private electronic data, which as a member of a union he was under no obligation to surrender.

Yes, hate the Patriots all you want. But the majority of people haven’t read the 243 page report and it is so tragically flawed.

  201. Fact of the matter is:

Patriots haters will relish in this

Patriots fans will say oh well and not really care about the penalty Brady receives

And everyone will agree that Goodell needs to go.

    Sounds about right.

  202. 90% of you posters should go home…..look in the mirror and realize your still just a little girl. You love Tom Brady too much to share him with Giselle and you wish he was dead. Oh man are you guys pathetic. How about they suspend Tom Brady for 12 games but his replacement Jimmy Garapollo can only gets to use those little tiny footballs you get at the dollar store and the players on offensive line must wear the medical face masks in all those games. We’re still not sure if cheating is catchy. Tom Brady is king and you will never be!

  203. Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. is guilty of the following:

    – Cheating
    – Lying to the NFL
    – Orchestrating the Deflategate Cover-Up
    – Uncooperative during Deflategate Investigation

Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. has put himself in a huge hole, due in large part to his refusal to own his role in deflategate from the start. What’s most egregious, is Brady continues to spin his innocence in the media through his sockpuppet Don Yee in the face of the Wells Report. Bottom line… Brady still has not owned his role in deflategate. His advisors have let him down big time, but he’s the one who’s ultimately responsible. Brady needs to come out and OWN his mistakes, and if he doesn’t do so in the next 48 hours, he should be suspended for the entire 2015 season including playoffs.

It’s simple as this: Own it and get an 8 game suspension. Continue your framegate spin, and get a season long suspension.

The fully inflated ball is in your court, Brady.

  204. I haven’t gotten so many thumbs down on an article I have commented on in all my life. Me thinks the Pats fans have a really raw nerve and everyone is rubbing salt in it. So what, they’ll survive.

  205. The integrity of the game was compromised. I want the Pete Rose lifetime ban!

    ——————————————-
It seems you’ve never heard of preponderance of evidence. It is a term used where if there is circumstantial evidence that something likely occurred more so than didn’t people can be found guilty in a civil suit. Ask OJ Simpson what the difference is between Federal and Civil suits are. This being the NFL is not as serious of an issue obviously but it holds the same standards as a civil suit. It’s more likely than not he was aware. Meaning at least 51% chance which means he can be found guilty.

The only reason why the Wells report stats those words is because there is not 100% evidence that Brady did it but there is ENOUGH evidence to show he was aware. Then there is now 100% evidence of him lying by saying he didn’t know the equipment handlers name. He had his freaking phone number.

  207. I laugh at pat fans saying their shady qb who deflated balls over the last decade(not just the colt game) had nothing to do with outcomes of games. Yes it has absolutely everything to do with the outcomes of games. Theres a reason Tom Shady had his footballs deflated over the years and it wasn’t only to get a better feel for the ball. I can tell you that. Its to gain a competive advantage over the opponent and that would mean running the ball by fumbling less too. He can thank the colts for ruining his tainted legacy.

  208. Four (4) games, I would expect nothing less. That would give the Patriots an 8 game-win ceiling, unless Garoppolo can win 4 games lol

  209. 4 games suspended.

    Reduced to 2 after appeal…..

but both must be served in the playoffs since that’s when Brady cheated.

    #justice

  210. Suspense will not matter. Odds of the Pats still winning the AFC and making a deep playoff run….Probably not!!!

  211. Pats fans outraged because Goodelll didn’t tip his buddy Kraft that they were on to Patsy cheating . Patsy fans mad that the league had the nerve to actually conduct a sting on the great and all powerful Patriots ! Goodell has actually done the right thing ,now the Patsy fans want him fired ? If the league doesn’t hammer the Patriots and impose a severe punishment the Patriots will continue their cheating ways. This is an arrogant owner, coach and q.b. who feel they can lye, cheat and do anything that is not spelled out specifically in the rule book as a violation.
This is not what the league, fans or the other 31 teams want, it only serves the Patriots. Watershed event for the future of the NFL …heavy …

  212. The first game of the season is the Patriots vs. the Steelers. While Pittsburgh has a legitimate chance to beat the Patriots in that game, Brady being suspended for that game would make it easier for them to do so. So ultimately, the other teams in the Steeler’s division could be affected because of the added edge of no Brady. And of course the same would apply to other games in which he is suspended. Fine him – not the usual 7 or 8 thousand – but enough that he – and others – stand up and take notice. Just my opinion.

  213. @buckevin says:
    another leak?
    ——————————————————-
No, it’s not another NFL leak, it’s just another Pats football losing some of it’s hot air.

  214. Any penalty should not exceed 4 games (the first time penalty for PEDs). PEDs are cheating too and it’s difficult to say one form of cheating is worse than another. The Colts had Landry playing in the AFC title game and he was later suspended so saying the win was tainted holds little water as both teams had “cheaters” in the game.

Also, if the league wants to send a message they need to look at themselves. They could have simply said “hey, cut it out” and none of this would have ever happened. When a complaint is filed, the league should notify the team in question so it doesn’t continue in future games. You know, “protect the shield”. They could have still investigated the original offense (the first Colts/Pats game) and issued punishments accordingly. The fact they didn’t have a process in place to protect the integrity of the balls is insane!

Lastly, all of these other teams (looking at you Browns HC) need to get off of your cheating high horse. Every team does things in every game to gain an advantage.

    No, I’m not a Pats fan…

  215. The suspension will be 4 games. Why? Well because game 5 for the Patriots is against the Colts. NFL will hype this up and get huge ratings. Brady & Bill will come out and beat them by 50 just to prove a point. Actually I think the Patriots will start slow without Brady but still run the table over the last 10 weeks and win the Superbowl again. This us against them stuff always fuels Belichick. In other news Roger Goodell sucks! I’m not sure you add games for someone refusing to hand over personal information, thats a slippery slope for everyone.

  216. The league office and their lawyers can TOTALLY be relied on not to leak any of Brady’s celebrity contact list and texts. They are so ethical about things like that.

    Anyway, I expect 2 + 2 for 4 games.
Any more than that for a ridiculous report that omitted and hid so many pertinent facts would be way out of bounds.
More probable than not, the New York league officers and report were quite biased against Brady.

  217. Well you can’t say they cheated to win the Super Bowl but you can say they cheated to get there.

  218. Did all you haters watch the event with Tom Brady from Salem State College the other night? Did you see the reception that he got? Could you feel how the crowd felt about him?
I hope so, because regardless of where he appears in NE that’s the kind of reception he would get before or after Roger Goodell and his corrupt posse does whatever they do.
We really don’t care what Roger Goodell thinks and we don’t care what you haters think either. We will continue to support the Patriots through thick and thin as we always have.
The Patriots will play with the cards dealt them and we’ll see what happens on the field. We understand that most of you losers understand the truth that unless something catastrophic happens(and maybe not even then) the results will not change for your teams outlook.

  219. Serious question: if this is Blake Bortles and the Jaguars, how much less would all of you care? Only Tom Brady knows if he’s guilty or not. I’m not upset over guilt or innocence and I’m also not a moron and played football my entire life into my 30s, so I know that the PSI of a ball isn’t the game-changer the anti-Patriots faction wants to make it out to be. I’m estimating roughly 98% of you wouldn’t react the same. You’re not outraged about Tom Brady, you’re CELEBRATING. Admit it, that’s all I want. Admit that this is about the WHO and not the WHAT. You guys are so transparent.

  220. A GM received a four game suspension for violating a rule that didn’t impact the game. Brady certainly should receive the same more.

  221. I haven’t had this much fun hating on the Pats in all my life.

As Flounder said in the movie “Animal House”, “Boy is this great!”.

Still, if the Patriots keep on doing this kinda stuff, it will become easier and easier. To the Pats, you only have yourselves to blame.

  222. “You can say whatever you want about DeflateGate, and who said what, but to me this is about how the NFL operates: it’s back stabbing, it’s insecure and it’s childish. ‘You want to call me out? I’m going to call you out. You want to embarrass me? Guess what I’m going to embarrass you.’ I’m telling you, this is the way the NFL works. At the end of the day, Tom Brady is the one who’s got the last laugh. He’s got his third Super Bowl MVP trophy and his fourth Super Bowl.”

    Boomer Essiason

They can’t beat him without sitting him. Don’t fret Tom, they sat Muhammad Ali too.

  223. QUESTION OF THE DAY: Is cheating is as bad as laying a switch to a kid?

AP got full year for a switch to his kid! We all know what the outcome and all

Brady cheated on actual game balls! This was even in the AFC championship game where probably 85% of teams will probably never make it to the game in our generation! Plus the pats made the superbowl and won! So I think this is a serious offence!

I am not condoning what ap did; but this is a game and why should Brady get a slap on the wrist for his actions? He never cooperated with Baddell and his phonies! What they need to give him is 12 Game suspension!

10 for cheating and 2 games for not cooperating! If the league wants to really show up, you can’t cheat and beat up a innocent person! BADDELL DO THE RIGHT THING AND DONT BE AN IDIOT!

  224. OK, here goes:

    1) The Wells report actually states that the Patriots balls all lost a similar amount of pressure.

    2) It also states that the 4 Colts balls they tested also lost the same proportion of pressure (Looks like the haters have missed that point)

    3) The Wells report clearly states that the 1:40 that McNally spent in that bathroom with those footballs was enough time to deflate and measure those 11 balls. Yet they believe the officials only tested four of the Colts balls because “they didn’t have enough time”.

Chew on that, for a minute. Perhaps they didn’t test the other Colts balls because they didn’t WANT to see the results.

    4) Both teams balls lost more pressure after they were tested once; the second measurement of each ball was LOWER, having lost some pressure from the first test.

    5) The loss in pressure on BOTH teams balls – at the FIRST measurement – corresponds to the EXPECTED loss due to weather conditions (aka: Ideal Gas Theory). That, in itself, absolves New England of any wrong-doing, completely. If McNally “deflated” the balls to under 12.5 PSI, then they would have measured much lower at halftime than they did, as the weather would have deflated them even further.

    6) Brady has openly stated that he liked his footballs “low”. He never said he liked them BELOW league minimums. The Wells report clearly states that during the Jets game, the officials inflated the Patriots footballs, and Brady complained to his equipment guys, one of whom tested the balls and found them to be over 16 PSI. This raises 2 points:

    A) If the pressure of the footballs is so critical to the NFL that they are considering suspending Brady, then why were those balls set ABOVE the legal limit by the officials a the Jets game? And why isn’t THAT official being punished for over-inflating?

    B) If McNally commonly deflates footballs below league standards, then why were those Jets game balls tested at 16 PSI the next day, instead of below 12.5????

Could it be that McNally calls himself “the deflator” because he usually lowers the ball to the minimum of 12.5 PSI after the officials set them higher?

    7) No where, NO WHERE, does the Wells report show a single instance of the Patriots equipment guys mentioning setting any balls below 12.5. Nor does the Wells report show a single instance of Tom Brady telling those two guys to set any footballs below 12.5 PSI

    NO WHERE

    8) The Wells report claims that the Patriots failed to make McNally available for questioning. What they don’t say is that this was the fifth time they asked to speak with him, and the Patriots complied the first four times. Obviously the Wells team was trying to harass the poor guy; what were you going to ask him the fifth time that you didn’t ask him the first four???

    9) Why should Brady submit any information from his cell phone:

    A) Any text or phone calls between Brady and the equipment guys was already available to Wells through the equipment guys records

    B) Brady turning over those records sets a dangerous precedent for every other football player today, and for years to come. Why set that precedent for your union brothers to deal with, when the investigators already had that information from the equipment guys?

    10) Wells claims Brady was lying when he said he didn’t “know” McNally, but finds that they communicated once, 6 months before the AFC Championship game. If I talk to someone ONCE in 6 months, does that mean I really “know” them? If he asked a clubhouse employee for a Coke last year, does that mean he “knows” him?

In short, Wells finds Brady guilty of ordering the footballs to be deflated below league minimums, for lying about knowing a low-level equipment guy, and for not turning over cell phone records; all of which is complete BS.

He also believes the Patriots had a systematic habit of deflating footballs below league minimums, which they provide ZERO proof of.

Meanwhile, Wells ignores the fact that despite being notified by the league that the Patriots were being checked for tampering with the game balls, Walter Anderson STILL managed to lose control of those footballs. It also does NOTHING to address the theft of game balls by an NFL official, or that the balls were mysteriously returned to he field once their absence was finally noticed.

The Keystone Kops couldn’t have run a more bungled operation than the NFL did during the AFC Championship game.

I strongly suspect that Robert Kraft has a tea of lawyers preparing a blistering response, should Gooddell suspend Brady for even one minute.

  225. Packers fan here, and I don’t understand why Brady was brought into this investigation. Why would he be disciplined for something that was the equipment staff’s responsibility? His job is to play quarterback.

  226. If I’m Brady and they suspend me I say good bye and retire. He doesn’t need the game anymore. Money, gorgeous wife, Superbowl titles. What else is there at this point?

  227. @lemmetalkwillya

WELL SAID DUDE……IMCLUDED ALL THE FACTS. SCREW THE HATERS. WERE ON TO JIMMY G, AND OUR DRIVE4-5.

  228. I love all you Pat’s fans sticking your heads in the sand and making up every excuse for Brady – Really makes me laugh !! Sue the commissioner, that just tops it for me.Never mind the fact that he has been doing this for more than just one game, never mind the fact that he finally got caught.Equipment guys don’t just change the pressure in a football because they feel like it – Good Lord get a clue and at least half a brain.Brady himself even stated he likes his footballs a certain way.

  229. ebr362 says:

He should get atleast 8 games. Your not bigger than the game Tommy boy. What is your cell phone hiding?

    ——————————————————–

Pretty sure some inappropriate pictures of Giselle. Oooo la la. Every man should want to get their hands on his cell phone LoL

  230. Brady’s a freakin’ right wing bass trd. It’s no wonder he’s a cheat and a liar.

  231. @lemmetalkwillya Excellent run down.

The investigation is tragically inept because they only tested 4 Colts footballs, and 3 were found to be under inflated. What about the other 7-8 Colts footballs? They can’t measure 11 Patriots balls and only 4 Colts ball. Why not just pick 4 Patriots balls at random then, seeing how some were more inflated than the lower end ones.

  232. Man you pat fans are pathetic. You’ve been cheating for YEARS now. Time to man up and take your punishment. You act like its the first time you’ve been caught. Makes me happy to know that when some people think of the patriots they think (liars, cheaters, murderers) Time to lay in that bed you made. Rot in hell.

  233. @lemmetalkwouldya thats was well thought out and reasonable , but the majority can’t or don’t want to see it because they hate tom brady and the patriots to much to see it . which is fine they have won so much its only natural to hate them .
i hope robert kraft and bill belichick put the entire patriots organization 100% behind tom brady . i honestly think if Goodell suspends brady based on that report or that brady won’t turn over his personal property to the league , it will be his last decision as Commissioner .

  234. @billsoneday…..
This comment coming from the FACTORY OF SADNESS OF THE NORTH. your garbage team has never won a Super Bowl, and will never hoist a Lombardi. You do hold one record……LOSING FOUR SUPER BOWLS IN A ROW…..CONGRATS.

  235. Go back to when the Patriots were caught cheating the first time:

    1. Vacate all wins sense and wipe them from the record books
    2. Forfeit all trophies and championships (division, conference, league)
    3. Fines, loss of draft picks already handed out

Go back to when the Patriots cheating began the second time.

    1. Those wins are vacated and wiped from the record books
    2. Forfeit all trophies and championships (division, conference, league)
    3. Triple the punishment from the first time the Patriots were caught cheating.
    4. Suspend Brady one season.

Inform the Patriots that the next time they’re caught cheating, anyone involved is banned for life and not eligible for the HOF.

  236. @ lemmetalkwillya

Agreed man, well thought out response. I am a pats fan but I still look at the facts presented to me by “non bias” Ted wells. This is the same company that determined cigarettes don’t cause cancer in one of their earlier reports.

I don’t think Brady handled himself all that well and his press conference wasn’t great. It was leading up to the SB though and he was caught off guard with the “severity” of the act.

I do hope he fights this, but mores I because Goodell is a terrible commissioner for the fans and players and these issues should have been non issues a long time ago

  237. I am a Steelers fan and hope he doesn’t get suspended. I want to see the team face him win or lose, would be a hollow victory with it.

  238. REPORTEDLY!!!! SOURCES!!! THIS IS THE MEDIA BLOWING SMOKE!!
The NFL is going to be the biggest fools if they try to implement punishment. They have no documentation of quality control on the game balls The documents have to be put on the table to show credibility of game ball process/protocol.
    Without this you have nothing.
The NFL is being pressured by the media to hang someone over the word PROBABLY!!
Where are the documents? I want to see paperwork produced. The NFL/Media has failed to solidify the accusations without documents showing that this is a process that is followed each and every game. PUT IT ON THE TABLE!!!!

  239. Come on, you are going to hand the Steelers a win. You’re screwing more than Brady you’re screwing with the hotly contested AFCN!

  240. everybody is focused on Brady, how about Belicheck? Payton and Loomis got suspended because it happened under their watch, Belicheck should be suspended also.

  241. Let’s gauge a punishment…Richie Incognito gets suspended for about 6 games in 2013 (by the Dolphins on the NFL’s orders) for CO-OPERATING FULLY (including turning over his cell-phone that had the N-word and the rest of it) with an investigation by Ted Wells called “BullyGate”…since Brady DID NOT CO-OPERATE FULLY WITH WELLS’S INVESTIGATION by not turning over the evidence he had on his person (which is why this allegation is “alleged”) and lying, Brady should get an 8 game suspension (but for the sake of the advertisers, he can start his suspension in week 2…too much money would be lost if Brady didn’t play in the opener against the Steelers, right?). AND Belichick ought to be suspende for a year…and Kraft should be put in jail for making profits off of cancer-causing GMO foods. There. I said it.

  242. This entire scenario started when Brady made a comment during the post game new conference after the playoff win against Baltimore. He was asked about the eligible receiver play, when he commented that ‘the Ravens didn’t know the rule book.’

John Harbaugh took exception to that comment. He thought that Brady wants to make reference to the rules…well, let’s see how he handles getting caught messing with game balls. The Ravens players (and others in the NFL) knew that the balls we under-inflated, but didn’t make a big deal out of it. But when Brady made that comment, he hung himself.

Harbaugh contacted the Colts and told them to be on the lookout. The rest is history.

  243. If the NFL were serious about punishing Brady, they would have done it before the Super Tainted Bowl while he was telling mammoth lies in his press conference. Expect the punishment to be a slap on the wrist.

  244. Football is entertainment, just like pro wrestling and people who run these businesses know they thrive with heroes and villains. Everyone is all whipped up into a frenzy over this. At most, Brady will be suspended four games. Why? Cause game 5 is against the Colts and do you think the NFL would allow a cash cow like that game be missed? No way, the NFL is in the business of making money and bringing the hatred for the world champ “villains” to new heights will only thicken the NFLs pockets.

  245. He might as well take the year off because they are not winning anything without Revis. The Defense was night day with Revis last year.

  246. Whatever it is, I pray he sues so the cell phone and emails can be turned over as evidence. That seems to be the thing that Brady and the Pats REALLY don’t want out there. If it would vindicate him, dontcha think they’d have done so?

Just guessing, but there are erased v-mails from the ball flunkies like “Tommy, they caught us! What do we do?”

Hard to maintain that he never heard of McNally after that.

In fact that’s probably why he invited Jastremski to the QB room for the first time in 20 years, to say, “Don’t you EVER call me on my cell phone again!”

    Oh Tommy, sue, please sue….

  247. For all of you Pat’s fans that want Brady to fight this,be care what you ask for.If he fights this,he will then be forced to bring in his phone for the narrow purpose of these text messages.Wells asked for them in this way and Brady denied him.He will not be able to deny them if he fights this.

  248. But wait, buried on the 228th page was this nugget: “In sum, the data did not provide a basis for us to determine with absolute certainty whether there was or was not tampering as the analysis of such data ultimately is dependent upon assumptions and information that is not certain.”

I guess when you win 4 Super Bowls and # SB MVP’s ur guilty BEFORE innocent!! Jerry Rice:”I used Stickem every game lol” Aaron Rodgers:” I Always OVER INFLATE the Ball”

I don’t hear any outcry about these two… Much ado about nothing. #theyhateuscuztheyaintus!!

  249. I am not a lawyer, but my wife is. The NFL office does not even have circumstantial evidence against Brady. They do on McNally and jerweski, the locker room attendants, but still no real proof. She read 80% of the Wells Report, and said if Brady takes the league to court he will win in a slam dunk. Don’t expect a long suspension like others are hoping for. First of all we all agree Goodell is a scumbag liar. Next Griggson GM of Colts blew the whistle on the league before, he got caught in the sting. Griggson told the NfL about deflated balls a week before gametime. Dean Blandino says he never heard that. The wells report shows that Dean and 6 other NFL officials all got the email on deflated balls. Blandino like Goodell scumbag Liar #2. Kensil was the first to lie about 11 of 12 underinflated balls to Mortensen on ESPN to smear the Pats. The linebacker who intercepted the pass said at the Pro Bowl that the Colts are lying ” I never said the ball felt inflated” Colts lying scumbag #3. No proof. Finally there was no Independent Investigator. Ted Wells gets paid by Goodell to make sure the league does not look like there was a sting. Independent is someone not working or getting paid by the NFL office Hopefully Brady sues the league for defamation of character, because he is sure to win. Only haters want to read the headlines and not look at what is obvious. My wife charges $350 per hour and would love to represent Tom Brady.

  250. Paul Hornung was given a one-year suspension by the NFL for gambling on football back in 1963. Doubt Brady’s suspension will be that severe.

  251. All Patriots fan defending Brady, even those with valid points of the evidence being circumstantial, are doing so only because of hope the suspension gets overturned. No one, even the most hardcore Brady homers, actually truly believes that Brady had nothing to do with deflating the balls. Everyone knows he did it, but some are just hoping he doesn’t miss anytime because it will obviously weaken their favorite team. That’s understandable.

As a Cowboys fan, I hope the suspension last at least 5 games because they face the patriots in week 5.

  252. Brady did not turn his cell phone over, at the behest of the NFLPA. Obviously Goodell is Judge Jury and Executioner. The NFLPA decided that would set a terrible precedent on all of it’s players. Get your facts right.

  253. Lack of oversight and control starts at Top, this is demonstrated through past violations the punishment for that was really nothing. Fast forward demands an apology by NFL, and now found guilty but Brady only? Seems a bit disjointed. Owner, Head Coach and then Brady in the order of accountability. Again it is a pattern here and the cycle needs to broken…

  254. Since 2000, the Patriots have won 4 Super Tainted Bowls. Does anyone expect the NFL to do the right thing after they buried the Patriots cheating ways the first time around?

I am sure Brady does not want to release his texts because deflated game balls might be the tip of the iceberg.

  255. One thing that nobody can defend is that he lied about not being in contact with the 2 guys that deflated the balls. It was proven that he did send text messages to at least one of them. I think him lying during the investigation will not allow the suspension to be completely overturned. An arbitrator may lessen the suspension due to evidence being circumstantial, but the fact that he lied during an investigation, I think, will make a suspension unavoidable.

hope brady sues the NFL , goodell and ted wells for all they are worth , and he’ll win !!!!!!
    ==================================

Seriously, what kinds of drugs are you on? Have you heard of something called the collective bargaining agreement and the authority all players agree to be subject to? And what exactly are the grounds for a lawsuit? I think even the Patriots would be a bit embarrassed to have you on their side.

  257. Some perspective – this ‘report’ was a little longer than the Annual NFL report on Player Safety and Health – by more than 200 pages.

This ‘report’ was longer than the official US government report about the My Lai Massacre during the Vietnam War.

This was, is now and always will be about MONEY – yours.

  258. Some anti Patriots/Brady comments have as many as 650 up votes and the interesting part of that number is I bet less than 20% of those votes are from Jets fans.

When you have no character or integrity, just like the Patriots, Brady and Bellichek, being detested and reviled crosses the usual lines.

  259. Anything less that a year would show the Goodell is soft on the pats and Kraft. He has to come down on this as hard as he did on the Saints and bountygate. BB needs to be suspended also and the Pats need to be fined and lose a pick or 2.

  260. It seems a little ridiculous that Sean Payton gets suspended an entire season for Bountygate because ignorance is no excuse, yet the league plans to do nothing to Belichick for this.

  261. bimbomoose says:

This whole issue is stupid. These rules are in-place so that the qbs can throw the balls that they like to throw without having to play with flat balls. Obviously TB12 likes his balls a little flatter than most. Who frickin cares? As long as he can throw it, it oughta be ok.
This is a case where the spirit of the law got overblown by the letter of the law. The NFL is gettin this so wrong. Shoulda been a non-story from the get-go.
I’m not a Pats fan, I may become 1 if TB12 gets suspended.

I wholly agree. This is as stupid as ensuring all QB have the same size hands, height, and build. Its about NFL entertainment – score points. Let QB adjust ball as desired and let the side lines heat the damn things. Its entertainment – not criminal justice.

  262. All the NFL needs is a preponderance of guilt. The NFL set that precedent with the New Orleans Saints…..Sean Payton, because he should have known what was going on in his locker room, Belichick ?? according to Roger Goodell. G.M. Mickey Loomis, because he’s Payton’s boss, 4 players – 8 game suspension, and Asst. coach Joe Vitt, 6 game suspension, again, according to Roger Goodell, because he was there in the building. 2-3 draft picks taken, fine imposed. No evidence presented to the public of guilt by the New Orleans Saints, just hearsay. No text messages of collusion, as with the New England Patriots.

A precedent was set by Commissioner Roger Goodell against the New Orleans Saints. How can the NFL do anything less to the Patriots, unless friendship to Robert Kraft is more important than fairness in the NFL’s punishment process. NFL fans are watching closely what the commissioner does, and which teams are afforded preferential treatment.

  263. See? This whole thing was just something the haters out on the ‘net cooked up! Nothing real mind you.

Uh oh, NOW what excuse are the apologists gonna hide behind?

Sorry, if Bell gets suspended for doing something that doesn’t even directly impact the game, well… I think this warrants a lot stiffer punishment.

  264. “Will they announce Aaron Rodgers’ suspension at the same time?

Since, y’know, he admitted overinflating his game balls to get an unfair advantage…”
    ———————

You REALLY don’t know what you are talking about. Rodgers said they test the limits of inflation BEFORE the refs inspect the balls and see if they make them take air out.

Brady does it AFTER they are inspected. That is a HUGE difference.

  265. Conspicuous by his absence but the question is why hasn’t Belicheat come to Shady Brady’s defense with respect to the Wells report

  266. vtraider says: May 9, 2015 1:41 PM

What is infinitely more important than all of this: It was a fumble!!!
    ****
He held onto that brick of a football on that snow blanketed field didn’t he ?

  267. Who cares!? No one approaches this with an objective view anyway. Because the majority of people did like Brady / Belichick / and Boston Sports they go all in on knocking them off their perch. All players/teams search for the edge by pushing the boundaries.
Some are easier to go after due to public perception

  268. “Who cares!? No one approaches this with an objective view anyway.”

I think anyone with an objective view would realize that this is not the first time the Patriots have been caught cheating.

  269. “Mark my words Patriots are going to smoke other teams this year”
    ———
Which words? Do you mean like the words Brady used when he stood before the entire world before the SB and said he didn’t cheat?

But do you ‘spose had Brady told the truth back then the NFL would have allowed Brady to play in the SB? You ‘spose Brady feared the answer to that question and that’s why Brady lied?

So many burning questions. Like the ones soon to be answered the moment the first 2/3’s of this self imposed train wreck responds to in their tell all book after they’re fired. You think they’re not writing a book? They’re names are forever linked to cheating and lying. Who wants to hire them!

  270. brady and belicheat each suspended for the year, but look on the bright side cheaters, when you go 4-12 at least you will get a top 5 pick, oh wait you are probably losing your first round pick also.

    #cheatersneverwin

  271. Can you imagine if Alex Rodriguez played for the Red Sox.

All we’d hear from that corner of the country would be:

“steroids don’t make a difference, he’s the greatest player ever”

    and

“everyone takes steroids. One time someone said he wanted to be stronger, that’s proof.”

Your owner, your coach, your “star” QB, your entire organization is tainted and a joke.

In the entire history of the NFL forever going forward everyone will know you cheated and wonder if you could have ever won anything fairly.

    My guess is no.

  272. If steroids and weed suspensions were issued on such flimsy evidence there would be no NFL left . its insane to suspend brady on the evidence in the wells report , such a precedent would hurt the league much more than any perceived cheating by the patriots .

  273. There’s no excuse for Goodel not making a decision about suspensions by the time the report was released. It’s clear he won’t make any decisions at this point without first gauging public reaction. He doesn’t care about right or wrong or integrity of the game. He just cares about maximizing air time, exposure, and trying his hardest to avoid mistakes that turn fans away.

  274. “its insane to suspend brady on the evidence in the wells report , such a precedent would hurt the league much more than any perceived cheating by the patriots .”
    ———–

What is insane is your blind homerism getting in your way of actually looking at all the facts and evidence. There is PLENTY there. Or do you want some sort of urine test that proves he was cheating/lying like weed suspensions?

Regardless, he refused to cooperate with the investigation and only providing text messages related to the investigation. That alone is worthy of suspension.

  275. I would absolutely love for the Patriot organization to both not raise their super bowl banner till the 1st home game Brady is able to attend IF the NFL is stupid enough to suspend him & what would be even more awesome is if they just forfeited every game Brady was suspended for…..come out of the tunnel as a TEAM at the beginning of the game then when the gun goes off for the kick-off just walk back into the locker room get dressed & leave as a show of solidarity for Brady & a collective finger at Godell…..THAT WOULD BE EPIC!!!!
Have KRAFT REFUND ALL TICKET STUBS FOR HOME GAMES TO THE FANS….Then when Brady comes back steamroll the league to another SuperBowl Championship!!!!

  276. LOL at people on here saying only way Patriots won all these years is by cheating. I doubt if 0.5 PSI could account for all those playoff and SB wins. You are all just frustrated because the Patriots keep coming out on or near the top. How much worse it must have been for you when they win the SB on a ridiculous miracle play!!! Love it. Face it, your team sucks compared to them. MY team, the Bucs, sucks compared to almost everyone. I wish we had BB and TB, and so do you. The deflation had a marginal, if any, effect on the games. You haters pounce on this trivial issue like drowning men clutching at a straw. Oh the pitchers mound at Yankee stadium is 1 inch higher than regulation. Strip the Yankees of all past titles, every one of their wins is solely due to that 1 inch. Try actually watching the games, and tell me that the Patriots don’t consistently outplay and outcoach the other teams.

You, are more than welcome, to go back to day-dreaming of NFL and MLB shower rooms…
    Buh Bye, now.

  278. If you truly think a football with a little less pressure makes the difference between winning and losing, then you are truly a moron. You are a Mountain Dew drinking, Dorito eating slob with marginal intelligence that probably lives in areas outside of New England, where studies more accurate than the Wells Report will prove it’s “more probable than not” that you are less intelligent than people from the northeast.

    classic

  279. But wait! Pat’s fans for months have been saying Brady would NOT be suspended. Do you mean to tell me – The homers were wrong? How could this be?

  280. Then Aaron Rodgers needs to be suspended as long as Brady is since he broke the rules as well. Not that the nfl gives a Damon because it’s not the Patriots

  281. restoreintegritytonfl says:
    May 9, 2015 10:38 AM

Brady cheated with the object of the sport which affects, not only him, but his entire offense. It is easier to throw, catch and secure the ball, reducing fumbles over the course of the season. Brady and his offense benefited from this cheating for at least a year based on the evidence in the Wells report. Brady deserves a one year suspension.

    —————————-

Aaron Rodgers says it’s easier for him to throw an over inflated ball. So there goes your theory.

  282. Tedmurph, I take back what I said before about you having a intelligent view on Patriot issues. “Fire Belicheck” is the most asinine statement coming from a “Pats fan”, on this issue, that I’ve heard yet. Nothing in the Wells report said Bill had anything to do with the deflating footballs. Punish Brady, I get that, but to include B.B. is just ignorant.

  283. Amazing. The only sports league in which the league itself purposely sets up and goes after its most successful player and franchise, creating public embarrassment for all involved and not making anyone, from the team to the league office to opposing teams to the sport itself, look good.

This whole thing was easily avoidable through warnings and monitoring, but the league would rather have public embarrassment and artificial question marks placed around the team that just won the league championship?

This really makes no sense, from Goodell’s standpoint. It’s pure amateur-hour leadership, or lack thereof.

  284. All player suspensions must be for a season, for fairness alone. If the patriots play teams from another division one with Brady and 1 without its not fair to the team that had to beat him..

  285. Okay so I am not a huge sport fan like all of you are but my thoughts are this….So much corruption and domestic abuse and drugs and a variety of wrongful things with our “STAR ATHELETS”, that suspending Brady is trivial for what Peterson or Rice did and yet they are up for pick and forgiveness not to mention Michael Vics run. I realize, like a little kid he has to be punished but come on did he hurt someone, beat someone, kill dogs, whip his kid??? Okay so I am off the charts here and I’m all for doing what you gotta do…but media needs yet another story and this time it is Brady. Someone should have known this way before now and acted accordingly… All about timing and money. Let the punishment for all who fail us professionally, and for all those who we are suppose to look up to, fit the crime.. Lets not make losers richer and seriously I don’t think Brady is a loser.. Lets see loss of air in a ball…hmmmmm suspension???? Okay maybe.. you made your money already so I am sure it won’t hurt your team yet!!! So I say smack his hands give him a warning and let him play like all the others you let play for a lot worse!!

  286. If this was a sting and this is so egregious, why did they not take an extra 90 seconds and test all of the colts balls. We are only talking the reputations of the super bowl champs here and the integrity of the league – it would be nice to get it right for sure.

We also don’t know the Colts beginning pressure was, say it was 13.5 and the pats were at the low of 12.5 – one whole psi. But that is unanswered. Certainly that would have bearing on any comparision

Also did the Colts store their balls outside or inside a sideline locker to keep them warmer. Nothing I heard about that.

Finally – I would like to know who these two ball boy guys report to – is it up through the football side and ultimately to BB or are they more so facility workers, and report to admins? Who the hell is managing the workplace affairs of those two guys? I would want to speak to their direct supervisors. Did they?

I still think Brady probably has something to do with it. Although his biggest mistake might have been dealing with two knuckleheads, who might have gone a step too far. Probably not, but possible. Overall the case still seems quite leaky and incomplete., but given their rules there is probably enough to justify a lengthy suspension.

I don’t doubt for one second there is a lot of jealousy and envy that permeates a lot the decisions and handling of this. The pats are more scrutinized than any other team. They have been kicking the ass of the whole league for 14 years. They are both Arrogant and Good.

Don’t be surprised if they win the super bowl next year. They had a good draft, they are still among the top teams talent wise and will have Brady for any playoff run. How sweet would it be pats fans to kick ass again and bring home another Lombardi. It’s a hellava motivator – us against the world. Be careful for what you wish for NFLfans, you may unleash a bigger beast.

Finally – All you pats haters can go to hell. They ain’t vacating Brady’s two fourth quarter drives stuck 10 (never done before) in the biggest game of the year, are they? – The Patriots are “Super Bowl Champions” and all you haters can choke on it.

  287. I think it’s funny that no one can say what rule Brady broke. Not what the Patriots attendants might have done (might). Brady. What rule did he himself break? He didn’t deflate the balls.

Haters all think he ordered a “code red”. Any evidence of that? I haven’t seen any. The attendants haven’t said Brady told them to do whatever necessary. The Wells report doesn’t say it either.

He knew what was going on? He did? Again, show me in the Wells report where anyone said Brady ordered them to deflate the balls after the pregame ref authorization. After the Jets game where the balls were shown to be illegally inflated by the league, no less, to 16 psi, he gave the attendants specific instructions to have the psi at 12.5 when he learned of the psi range rule. He even told the guys to bring a rule book to show the refs to make sure this would be done.

He wouldn’t turn his phone over? So what? They got all the texts and calls from the attendants’ phones, which I understand were team issued phones. I wouldn’t have handed over my personal phone either. Wells doesn’t work for the government or the law, and it probably wasn’t a team issued phone.

So, please, just show me the rule that Brady himself broke. You can’t, which is why this should have been taken care of within a week after the game. Fine the team for equipment violations and move on.

  289. 2 games. 4 games. Doesn’t matter. Pats will thump those teams and when Brady returns the Pats steamrolling of the NFL will continue.

  290. I know this is a huge story because of the general disdain for the Patriots and Tom Brady but people are coming unglued about this. Sure, if a rule was violated the league should step in and handle it but the whole “integrity of the game” argument is laughable. I wish the public, the media, and the league would get this upset about players beating their children, their wives, threatening to kill their girlfriends, or killing dogs for sport but hey…those are off field issues so of course they don’t hurt the integrity of the game or the image of the league. Whatever! Greg Hardy gets a 10 game suspension for a terrible act of violence and people want Brady to be banned for the entire season. Get some perspective people!!!

  291. Knowing how buddy buddy Goodell & Kraft are, Brady will only miss the preseason games. In other words, the punishment will amount to nothing.

    Pre Wells Report

Fans from ALL 32 teams around the league denounce Goodell’s ability to run the league. He is incompetent and the worst commissioner in the entire sporting world. He has lost all control. There is no integrity in the NFL! ESPN analysts claim he has lost his ability as a leader and ProFootBallTalk.com launch multiple links on the topic so they can get thousands of clicks and advertising dollars. Mike Florio almost has a heart attack trying to keep up with blogging numerous posts that all say basically the same thing … Goodell is an idiot!

    Post Wells Report

Fans from 31 teams rejoice at the great job the commissioner is doing to maintain the integrity of the game by suspending the most notorious criminal of all. A criminal so vile he actually prefers to play with footballs slightly deflated when everyone witnessed he actually has a BETTER passer rating with a football a little more inflated (reference 2nd half of AFC Championship game or Superbowl MVP Trophy). ESPN analysts who were former quarterbacks in the NFL feel vindicated. They hope some day their measly QB ratings and 0 Superbowl trophies will mean something. ProFootBallTalk.com launch multiple links on the topic so they can get thousands of clicks and advertising dollars. Mike Florio almost has a heart attack trying to keep up with blogging numerous posts that all say basically the same thing … Tom Brady is a CHEATER!

Fans from 1 NFL team denounce Goodell’s ability to run the league. He is incompetent and the worst commissioner in the entire sporting world. He has lost all control. There is no integrity in the NFL!

    Executive Summary

For the reasons described, in this report, and after a comprehensive investigation, we have concluded that, in connection with the FANS of the NFL, it is more probable than not, the FANS of the 31 teams don’t really care about integrity unless of course it involves the best franchise in the NFL and current Superbowl champion. They will easily overlook their own team’s indiscretions: salary cap circumvention, piped in crowd noise, bounties, PEDs, tampering, texts, headset malfunctions, and ANY penalty during the course of the game that did not get flagged (aka classic cheating) etc. It is also more probable than not, they will post their HATE filled diatribes to help support the greater cause … ESPN, SI, ProFootBallTalk.com etc.

For the reasons described, in this report, and after a comprehensive investigation, we have concluded that, in connection with the MEDIA of the NFL, it is more probable than not, the MEDIA will do anything to make more money. The articles or blogs can be lies or truths … fact or fiction … or simply biased. Furthermore, and for the reasons described, in this report, and after a comprehensive investigation, we have concluded that, in connection with Mike Florio of ProFootBallTalk.com, he most certainly will have a heart attack trying to make money with his numerous repetitive blog posts.

And lastly, for the reasons described, in this report, and after a comprehensive investigation, we have concluded that, in connection with the FANS of 1 NFL team, it is more probable than not, they are the ONLY fans to remain consistent on their viewpoint of the NFL commissioner (reference Pre and Post Wells reports) and will remain STRONG in support of their team.

  294. The leak from Goodell’s office was intentional, he’s testing the direction and intensity of the winds, the squeekier wheel will get the grease

  295. 8 game suspension for Brady is fair in my opinion as a Patriots fan. It will give us a chance to see what we have in Jimmy G. My hunch is Jimmy G., goes 5-3 in that period. The kid looks like a gamer and with Belichick’s ability to coach up players, he will do just fine.

  296. Eight games suspension and let EVERY team that plays them this year deflate their balls to their own liking.

  297. There are only two acceptable punishments: 1. Revoke the title the team receiver through nefarious means, or 2. Preclude the Patriots organization from participating in the 2015-2016 season.

  299. I still think it’s funny when Steeler fans get haughty on these message boards about NE. PED’s are for a fact significantly worse than tape and underinflated balls. Your teams glory days are built on a foundation of steroids. Pot, meet kettle.

  300. it is not just Brady.

it’s Belichick, too. Ignorance is no excuse, per the Saints precedent.

A hefty fine for the organization, too, ideally dinated to an ethics organization..

  301. If he isn’t at NFL kick off game Sept 10 I know a bunch of fans who will be changing their plan to go to Boston for the game.

  302. How many games were won last year due to the Pats not fumbling flat footballs, but other teams fumbling properly inflated balls? Is that how the Pats even GOT to the SB to begin with?

The Pats fans all talk about the Colts playoff game, what about all the regular season games that might also have been tainted due to institutional cheating?

Fact, the fumble rate stats for the Pats is about half that of the rest of the league since 2007 when the footballs came under control of the teams due to TB and Peyton Manning lobbying for the opportunity to control the balls. And don’t give me that c r a p that the Pats coaches are better at teaching players how not to fumble.

The Pats are institutional cheaters, from top, down, any penalty that does not take this into account, that will be levied by the league is a slap in the face of every fan, coach, player, employee, and city that is a part of the NFL.

  303. NFL handing out punishment s for teams doing things that are allowed in the subculture. The pats can handle it and that’s why they share the brunt of these things.

May just be better to enforce the refs checking balls as they come onto the field.

Will he get more than ray rice? The effect of the ball debacle s really negligible – look up that word, it applies to this situation. An illegal hit or gross holding that goes flagged or not can have more of an effect than this ball thing…
