Zimmer says Peterson won’t be disruptive or disgruntled

AP

All the Adrian Peterson trade talk has died down in the last couple weeks, and from all indications Peterson will be a Viking this year. But will Peterson be an unhappy camper who causes headaches in the locker room?

Not according to Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, who says he has talked to Peterson and doesn’t anticipate any problems. Although Zimmer declined to tell reporters what his conversations with Peterson have been like, he said he doesn’t think Peterson will be disruptive or disgruntled.

I don’t think there will be any issues, no,” Zimmer said, via the Star-Tribune.

Zimmer better be right because the Vikings and Peterson appear stuck together. Peterson is by far the Vikings’ highest-paid player, with a cap hit of $15.4 million this season. For that kind of money, the Vikings need to be sure they’re getting a player who will be giving it his all.

  1. Peterson is going to tell the coach all the right things. But his play will show he is disgruntled. He will likely have a “slight hamstring injury” that lingers all season.

It’s amazing how many times the Vikings seem to always find themselves in these situations with start players and how horrible they Vikings seem to manage them.

  2. Peterson should be out of the game for what he did. What he did was even worse than what Rice did. Beating a 4 year old with a stick, and then having a bunch of delusional fans fawn over you like you just bought them a new car. Pretty amazing really. Anyone who would abuse a woman or a child is garbage.

  3. One playoff win in his entire career!! One. Singular. Uno.

That ties him for the most playoff wins in Vikings history though!!

  4. Don’t think too much of Peterson, but I hope that Zimmer has much success as a HC. He has a great football mind.

  5. Peterson, as did Tom Brady, did something wrong. Their contracts state they can’t act in a way that is detrimental to the team. But when they get caught and punished they look to blame others.

The life of privilege is far different from what most of us encounter

  6. Dogra may have instigated a lot of the “disgruntled” talk, but last I checked, AP was a grown man. He could have told Dogra to shut up, or he could have fired him if there wasn’t some truth to it.

AP is still an elite back, but this is uncharted territory in more ways than one. AP could keep quiet and rush for 2000 yards, or he could not give a crap, disrupt the locker room and only rush for 800 yards.

Zimmer’s words are comforting to Vikings fans but they don’t mean anything until Peterson takes the field.

  7. Winning cures all things. Unfortunately, Peterson will be losing with the Vikes instead of winning with the Cardinals or Cowboys.

  8. So he’s a fortune teller, huh?
He should put that talent to other uses he could probably make a lot of money.

  9. I find it highly entertaining and delusional that Vikings fans somehow think he is going to put up 2000 yards. That is a very special type season that usually only happens once. And especially not at 30.

    Get real! SKOLOLOLOL!

  10. Show up the very first day you have to in order to avoid being fined…. Get “injured” that first day. Sit out “injured” until traded or released.

    Pretty simple.

  11. When he straps on his helmet he knows nothing else but giving it his all. That’s what got him into the conversation as one of the best ever at his position.

  12. And that whimper you hear is the feeble Packer secondary sucking their thumbs in the corner!
    ————————–
and the THUD you hear is 4th round pick jake ryan tackling Peterson for a loss!!!

  13. Peterson has no choice but to play very well. If he sandbags it, he’ll get cut and then be looking at backup RB money. If he just plays well (800-1000 yrds), he’ll likely get cut and be looking at $3-4 M a year. He’ll have to be at 1300 yrds plus to have any trade value, and any shot at the $5-10M range. No one is going to pay him what the Vikings are on the hook for in ’16 & ’17, ($15M and $17M). So he’s not going to be a disruption. Too much money on the line.

  14. This was all a show put on by his agent. Pathetic.

Play the game and get your money.

Its always about the money untill you got one foot out the door and a team picks you up for the vet minimum and then its about winning championships.

Suh didnt go to the dolphins for championships etc…

Peterson will play out the contract and go elsewhere. Hopefully he cant do any damage by then so im glad hes on the Vikes. All this crap about the cardinals and bum knee palmer and give it away romo. Too funny. All these “all the sudden seahawk fans and cardinal fans” I see you. Those stickers are new and fresh on the back window of your car. Those jerseys havent even been washed. Stay true to a team otherwise fill out the bandwagon form

    Vikes. Vikes. Vikes.

Sure sounds like something tokyofilthblaster would say. Hmm, I wonder……

  16. I think Peterson still has plenty of playing time left in the tank, especially since he didn’t get to play much last year after switching his kid.

But really, Peterson has millions of reasons to keep trying his hardest. He needs to play well in order to get the Vikings to pay him 14.75 million next year. If he doesn’t get 1800-2000 yards this year, the Vikings probably won’t want to pay almost 15 million for him next year. He is overpaid. That team should just cut him now. Let him become someone else’s problem. Yeah, maybe he’ll do well with another team, but for what? A year or two, tops.

So you think that arguably the greatest RB of all time is going to purposefully sit out another year? Dude is trying to win a super bowl and break Emmit’s all time record, only an ignoramus would think with your logic. Packer fan eh?

Take note, packer “stockholders”, this is what a real coach looks like.
    ———-

What, with a losing record and a star player who doesn’t want to be on his team?

    Scary!

  19. So you think that arguably the greatest RB of all time is going to purposefully sit out another year?

He’s not arguable the greatest RB of all time. NO, NO he is not.

He can’t begin to carry Barry’s cleats, much less guys like Jim Brown or OJ – talking on the field here.

He’s good – top 10 yes but not the best. Sorry.

  20. Of course not. Aside from being a pro’s pro, and the best back in the entire league, he’s earning zillions again!

  21. Zimmer was also on the record as saying several months back, that if AP was dead set against playing for the Vikings they would work something out. Coaches lie.

  22. And that laughter you hear is the capable Packer secondary licking their chops in the corner!

  23. Hes 30, now he has to prove it every year. Or he wont get paid.

If he dogs it, no team will pay him.

  24. cometowisconsineveryoneisrelated says:

“Take note, packer “stockholders”, this is what a real coach looks like.”

Wow, you’re saying a coach who’s never won a thing (Zimmer) is better than one who already has a Super Bowl championship on his resume (McCarthy)? Ooooookay, whatever you say.

  25. For those of you that think or suggest that Peterson won’t give it 100% on the field or with his teammates, I think you are dead wrong. Peterson may not have the best of character off the field (which I agree) but knowing what I know about him he seems to give it his all on the field and doesn’t seem like he would want to let down his teammates. Besides if he wants to be traded next year or picked up by another team if released he will want to show them he has what it takes to deserve that opportunity.

Did you read the word “arguably”?

  27. If he does get out of line maybe Zimmer should send the Vikings newest signing, Babatunde Aiyegbus to have a word with him. All 6-9, 351-pounds of him!

  29. The Vikings are annoying, their fan base, their ugly girly uniforms, their goofy GM and owner. I can’t understand why a team that has lost and choked out their seasons time and time again could possibly remain in the NFL. They should be removed from the NFL and play in a league that is more their caliber like the CFL. I mean they’re close enough to Canada anyways.

The Vikings have made the playoffs 27 times and have 0 (ZERO) Championships.

The Packers have made it 30 times and have 13 Championships

The Bears have made it 25 times and have 9 Chamionships

The Lions have made the playoffs 16 times and have 4 Championships.

Obviously the Vikings are not cut out to play in the NFL.

Join the revolution today and lets remove this pathetic garbage team from the NFL!!!

Yes and it implies a case could be made. In this instance – there can’t be one made. Not even close.

Using the word doesn’t mean it’s correct or appropriate.

Joe Namath is arguably the best winning SB coach of all time.

See? Some people (all 5 Jets fans) would be willing to say that – doesn’t mean it’s appropriate.

Peterson as the GOAT is not even remotely arguable because he’s so far out of the conversation, it’s ludicrous to even bring it up.

Uhm, why don’t you go ahead and actually prove how “dead set” AP is…

    ——————-

Just go back a read all the stories for the last 4 months that said AP wants out of Minnesota. I’ll wait. Also I said ALL coaches lie. So it wasn’t a dig on Zimmer, just stating the obvious.

  33. For everyone thats had these theories about about dogging it and not getting paid by anyone next year. Best believe someone will pay him great money. Something i wouldnt put past jerry jones.

  34. Well Zimmer has changed his tune.

    Per this site in JAN

Zimmer was asked what he would do if Peterson met with him and said he felt like he should go elsewhere.

“I would respect Adrian’s decision,” Zimmer told Florio. “I’ll always be honest with him and up front, but I’m going to try to explain to him the reasons why I would like for him to be here. But it has to be a two-way street, and he has to get his life taken care of. But we’ll sit down and talk, and I’m a pretty good recruiter, too.”

So now Peterson wants out and the Vikings have decided they will force him to play for a team who didn’t support him last year.

AP is not Greg Hardy and you can understand why he feels like he was treated unfailry by the league and a team he has given 110%.

  35. I really miss those idiots posting “Peterson to the Cowboys, book it.” Well, nobody “booked it” and it didn’t happen, so what exactly were people supposed to book and where?

  36. The yearly Vikings excitement, it will last till the Vikings are 2 – 4 then they will lose interest. The Vikings are going make some key moves keep them in contention for last place in the NFC North.

  37. Hey viking fans, tomorrow you can relive that Saints game on NFL network. Didnt AP fumble that game away? Favre woulnt have thrown that pick if it wasnt for AP. At least GB’s playoff choke was special teams meldown and not their franchise blowing it.
Oh, oh. Here they come with all there know it all comments.
Well from a franchise that has alot of experience on choking, I guess we should at least listen.

  38. Can’t wait for training camps to open.
Take solace Vikings fans. The only franchise that has lost more Super Bowls than the Vikings are the Broncos. (2-5). But at least they cheated the salary cap to win two.

  39. Peterson can’t afford to take a year off to sulk. He’ll be another year past his prime by then. Any questions about his health or commitment would sink him. His only shot at a big contract somewhere else is a really successful season.

  40. Show me where Peterson has said he wanted out. I think the closest we got was that he would welcome a fresh start. But never demanded anything because he knew he couldnt. Dorga tried to force the vikes hand and was shut down when they didnt flinch. They may have explored the options but the price was set to high and noone was crazy enough to part ways with a first rounder. Had peterson been 5 years younger you would have seen a trade with ANY TEAM but hes older.

Adrian is great and a hall of famer. Im not going to sit and say great of all time because i didnt grow up seeing other people mentioned but certainly the greatest of our generation. Ppl are quick to form an opionion about a guy who made a mistake weve all done stuff were not proud of. Anyone who says they would want him in your backfeild even on the downward slide is just a lie. Yes even you packer fans

All these packer statistics about history and records. You need go watch your boy on jeopardy some more

Ill take SKOL for 200 please Alex.

  41. Peterston isn’t disgruntled, he’s disappointed.

There is a huge difference, and Peterson will be absolutely fine once he is back into the swing of things.

Those that think he will phone his performances in, or who believe that he will have a nagging hamstring or similar ‘injury’ as a way of demonstrating his displeasure at still being a Viking as simply kidding themselves.

  42. He has played it cool before…. the best seasn he had with the Vikings was when they had the great QB play from Brett Favre…. it takes more than a happy RB to win a title….

  43. The only way AD saves face is by firing Dogra and putting the blame on his agent. And rightfully so, Dogra tried and failed. If AD really wants out then get in trouble for something else, the Vikings would think that is just too much and cut you.

  44. I had this conversation the other day. I don’t see this being an issue either one bit. No matter if he is or how agitated he may be, it’s just not in his make up. There are certain people who just Can’t Not compete at their highest level all the time not matter what team they were on, and Peterson is exactly that type of person. He just cannot play this game without competing and giving his all.

  45. Ap should be whipped if he stupid enough not to play for that 12 million going to the kowgirls doesn’t guarantee a trip to the SB especially with Romo at QB people always talk about there offensive line being this and that but yet they won one playoffs game over the past 5 years there’re paper champs all that ego and drama won’t equal to a championship if you follow sports klosey you would know that

  46. $15.4 million can buy a whole lot of switches! Almost a forest if he can acquire the land rights.

  47. Peterson’s agent is doing his job. That is what the agents do. Try and get the most for their Clients. Peterson will play at the same level he has always played at. Peterson passion for the game and the respect he has for his Viking teammates haven’t changed. Peterson going to be playing with a huge chip on his shoulder and will make the teams that didn’t give enough to get him, Wish they had made the move. Peterson will run like a man with a mission. That Mission is to show everyone what a 30 year old back can do and never under estimate AD LONG.

  48. Zimmer has always been a players coach with strait talk to his players! I actually believe him on this! All this bringing up the past is getting old esp from packer trolls. It’s time for pack fans to regret the past of not taking Eric Kendricks as their Linebacker!!

  49. Again, strain a hammy the first time working out……rest, get better, rinse and repeat…..

    Eventually they’ll get the picture….

  50. I cannot believe Viking fans are rooting for this guy. zero integrity in MN. shows how much you care for a sport that hasn’t won your state a damn thing over a child who was beaten.

  51. The only person that was disgruntled was Dogra. Adrian will fine with that Super Bowl ring on his finger. Meanwhile in Green Bay, same old story. A great QB has to work in a terrible environment with a less than mediocre team.

  52. “Meanwhile in Green Bay, same old story. A great QB has to work in a terrible environment with a less than mediocre team……

….which makes it all the more puzzling why they continue to own the Vikings year after year. What gives?”

  53. Peterson had better behave himself when he shows up in Minnesota. Zimmer is definitely not one of those coaches who will put up with divisiveness or disruptions from a player. If Peterson tried something like that, Zimmer would send his butt out the door very, very quickly. Coach Zimmer is a tough, no-nonsense guy who has high expectations for his players and who won’t allow prima donnas to infect his team. You can count on that. Peterson will behave and produce or he won’t be around, I promise you.

  54. Packer fans hope he is not disgruntled…….if he is, he will give the packers more headaches than he has in the past.

Peterson is a packer killer, and they are more than aware.

Welcome to your NIGHTMARE pack faithful!!!!!!!!!

  55. You can thumb it down all you want, the facts remain the facts. And the facts are, the Pack has owned the Vikings for several years and are well poised to continue said ownership.

  56. The Vikings have made the playoffs 27 times and have 0 (ZERO) Championships.

You forgot 1969. NFL Champions. They lost to KC in the SB.

Now what about this post warranted it being removed.? Come on.

  57. Packer fans should be confident. I’m ok with that. But posting the win/loss record against the Vikings “with AP” is meaningless, unless Teddy gets hurt and somehow Ponder or Webb come back to play.

  58. The facts also remain that any team who plays the packers in the playoffs OWNS them and it usually a few year cycle. Glad packer fans are happy with division titles tho.

  59. Headaches? Peterson? Hardly. He’s never given the Packers any headaches. If the Vikings want to feed Peterson to the point of gaining 200 yards, while the Vikings take a 30 or 40 point loss to the Packers, the Packers will take that every time.

1-10-1 over the last 6 seasons tells the tale. You can puff up your little chests and use your caps lock key all you want to, it doesn’t change the facts. The Packers own the Vikings.

  60. We like division championships but we’re mostly happy with the 13 world championships, culminating in 4 Superbowl victories. Both of which the Vikings have none of.

  61. Peterson will be playing with passion and he will challenge the Packers linebackers who will need to sneak up to the line. This opens up gaps for Minnesota’s Tight ends and slants. Teddy will pick your team apart while Minnesota’s revamped secondary will severely challenge Rodgers deep balls.
We will see who is flaming who after the game.

  62. All talk of trade has died down……..unless you’re a delusional, hubcap-sized belt buckle-wearin’ stubborn Cowboy fan.

  63. Nobody cares about what happened before the modern Era (1970). Packer “championships” against teams that don’t exist and were made up of construction workers playing on the weekend against other construction workers doesn’t impress or matter to ANYONE OUTSIDE OF GREENBAY!

AP is arguably the best, he has the 2nd highest yardage in a season, more than Barry S ever got. He has a higher Avg. per carry than almost every RB in history. And his total yardage is still climbing…as he’s not done yet.

Arodge is arguably the second biggest cheater in the NFL, as he pumps the balls beyond league maximum in hopes the Referees don’t notice it. It’s like someone who slips an Ace up his sleeve but gets found out before the next poker hand is dealt. Technically he didn’t get to play the Ace so the cheating hadn’t occurred, but the intent and spirit of cheating was very much present.

Arodge and Tbrady – two peas in a pod.

  64. Fake a hamstring injury? Stupidest idea.

    No play = No pay.

No play + injury = Nobody else will sign a 30+ y/o injury-prone headcase on the downside of his career.

He will play, and he will play hard.

  65. The Almighty Cabbage likes to hang his hat on the past and when it is convenient to do so gloats about Super Bowl wins… However if he were in an argument with Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Patriots, or Giants fans I bet all of the sudden the number of Super Bowl rings is no longer the criteria.

The Steelers, Cowboys, and 49ers all have more Super Bowl rings and New England and the Giants both get the tiebreaker over the Packers by virtue of a more recent Super Bowl win, more Super Bowl appearances and wins the last decade, heck forget decade… stretch that all the way back to 1970 and the same holds true. So if Super Bowl wins are the criteria, then so be it… but then Cabbage, you have to admit that the Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, Patriots, and Giants are superior franchises and that Oakland and Washington (haha) are nipping at your heels. A win by either gives them the same standing as the Pats and Giants… Failure to admit those 5 franchises are superior and that Oakland and Washington are one win away from being better makes you a hypocrite. Your silence will prove the same.

  66. “I don’t think any Packer fan is worried about him running angry.”

Really?!! Remember the year he almost broke the single season record? That last game was at home against the packers. You may remember it as the game where the packers stopped AP short of the record. I remember it as the game where AP ran angry over a very porous packers defense and it cost the packers a bye week and the number two seed in the playoffs. As a result the packers had to play the Niners in San Francisco and lost horribly to Colin Kaepernick who ran for a thousand yards (or something, I lost count after 175.)

  67. I have no problem whatsoever in saying that during the 70’s, 80’s, and even into the early 90’s, several teams were vastly superior to the Packers and it wasn’t even close. It’s called being realistic. Making sense, even. Some of you should try it some time.

That said, if ONLY Superbowl wins in a 32-team league count, the Packers have two… as do the Steelers. I’m not sure if this latest one brings the Pats up to three or if it’s also still two for them.

You don’t get to cherry pick. Either they ALL count or ONLY the wins in a 32-team league count; and either way, the Packers are light years ahead of the Vikings (and most other franchises).

    Next!
