Jermaine Cunningham pleads guilty in “revenge porn” case

AP

Linebacker Jermaine Cunningham is a free agent and any attempts by the former Patriots second-round pick to continue his career may be hindered by discipline from the NFL.

Cunningham pleaded guilty Wednesday to three charges related to a December arrest following a domestic dispute. The dispute started after Cunningham posted photos of a girlfriend’s inner thigh, groin and buttocks on Instagram without her permission, which violates a 10-year-old New Jersey “revenge porn” law that makes it a crime to share such images without the subject’s approval.

NJ.com reports that Cunningham admitted posting the pictures and tagging them with the woman’s name while pleading guilty to a third-degree crime of invasion of privacy and fourth-degree charges of illegally transporting a handgun in the glove compartment of his car and having hollow-point bullets. The gun and bullets were found in Cunningham’s car at the time of his arrest and he was sentenced to probation for a period that will be set at a June hearing.

Cunningham was selected by the Patriots in the second round of the 2010 draft and spent three years with the team before moving on to the 49ers and Jets, who he was playing for when he tore his Achilles before the start of the 2014 season.

  1. I like how you mentioned the Pats a few times in the article, yet he is pictured wearing a Jets jersey. No mention of the Jets. Why not? Kensil not allow it?

  2. Not excusing the crimes, but if this happened while he was a free agent (under no contract and essentially unemployed) how does the NFL discipline him? Is the next step to review all players before they play or get drafted and make them serve a suspension for any issues?

    WHAT?

Apparently evidence is optional in suspending players in the NFL. If they don’t have any they give a smuck $5 million to make some up. Also, what’s up with the Jets? First Favre texting his junk now another one posting revenge porn. A real bastion of integrity there in Jet land led by their tampering, cheating scumbag owner Johnson.

  5. I think he will be seen as toxic, perhaps some one will give him a job, I just hope my team stay away from people who will do this. Bill

  6. Scumbag — pure and simple.

Cheap shot — not worthy of an NFL player.

This guy’s next job should be cleaning the toilets at McDonalds.

  7. Refresh my memory, what criminal charges came Brett Farve’s way for his little indiscretion involving a female in the Jets front office.

No, it’s not the same, but just as bad.

  8. Having a gun in the glove box of your vehicle is a Second Amendment Right under the United States Constitution!! Having hollow point ammunition is just showing he was safety conscience.

As the the photographs, if he had not posted a name, nobody would have known whose parts they were.

He was a patriot for three years. That is all that anyone in the NFL offices need to know. Besides, they don’t need evidence. It is m ore probable than not that he is guilty of something else too. Five year suspension, sell his children for medical experiments and turn his dog into the NFL office so they can kick it whenever they want. Oh wait! He was wearing a Jets uniform…maybe he can just go with no punishment at all.

  10. The NFL has NOTHING to do with this…AT ALL!

    Cunningham did this to himself.

If I went out and got a DUI, would the local paper print a story called “DUI for Company X employee” and make sure that the company got negative press for what I was doing on my own time? No, of course not.

PFT should be ashamed for trying to make the NFL look bad for what this idiot did. I am sure that the NFLPA, ESPN, and PFT will demand that the NFL do “something” to prevent players from doing stupid stuff like this……

  11. Went to school with a bunch of straight shooters 2006–2010 . Airnandez, Pounceys, Cunningham, Spikes, Dunlap, Will Hill, Cooper, Percy, Rainey. Even Tebow can’t outweigh that.

  12. Troy Vincent just punished the Patriots and has taken another first round pick in next years draft. The reason, Cunningham was drafted by the Patriots and is guilty by association.

  13. So after knocking out his future wife in an elevator and earning a felony aggravated assault charge in the process, he gets off scot-free because of a “pre-trial intervention”?

    What the god damn hell?!

    No.

This has got to stop. The NFL is NOT the criminal justice system. Maybe if you and the rest of the SWJ brigade spent the time and energy holding the actual system that’s supposed to handle this sort of thing to doing it’s job you do demanding a sports league become some private punitive court system MAYBE the NFL could focus on doing it’s job of being a sport.

No more of this “Pweeze Mr. Comisina, punish deez ebil rong dooers,” garbage. NFL fans want this scumbag to be stripped of arbitrary power not given more.

  15. NJ is one of the worst states you can be in if you are a legal firearm owner. How does this millionaire gets off with probation for having a gun in his glove box with hollow point bullets ( in NJ you have to have your firearm secured in the trunk of your car, and no hollow points) while a single mother from Pennsylvania is driving in NJ with her legally owned firearm and has to serve jail time. or better yet how does the millionaire Ray Rice gets the pretrial program offered to him by the same prosecutor that denied the program to said single mother. Wow I never knew a state could be more elitist than CA.

  16. these guys are mentally weak when it comes to women.they need to go listen to rose budd
