Saints, Cameron Jordan agree to five-year contract extension

Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan has cashed in with a new contract.

Jordan and the Saints have agreed to a five-year deal with $33.8 million in guaranteed money, Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports. The deal includes $27 million in the first two years and a total value of “up to” $60 million, according to the report.

Jordan was heading into the final season of his contract and was scheduled to count $7 million against the Saints’ cap this year. The addition of five years to his deal means he’s now under contract to the Saints through 2020.

The 25-year-old Jordan was the Saints’ first-round draft pick in 2011 and hasn’t missed a game in his four seasons in New Orleans. Now the Saints are counting on him to play out his prime in New Orleans.

  1. I like that the contract seems to be front loaded instead of back loaded. Last year was an off year for him and the whole defense, cam in particular started off slow imo. Heres to hoping he re gains his form from 2 years ago. Im excited about this move

  2. That was one of the few good Browns players left. Saints have to feel good about their roster improvements.

  3. Am I the only one who still doesn’t know the difference between Jordan Cameron and Cameron Jordan? Which one has all the concussion problems?

  4. Well glad that we got him locked up. Need him, Hicks, and Jenkins to step up their play this year. Didn’t like Walker getting away, he was one of the few bright spots on the Dline last season. Revamped secondary won’t mean jack unless we can pressure the other teams QB’s.

  5. Saints will miss Graham soon enough

Seatown just mad that his team has to pay a one dimensional TE that can’t block $10 Million a year to tip defenses off to a run or pass play lol

  6. Took me awhile to process. In subsequent articles in my RSS feed.

Philbin likes the way Cameron is fitting in – Jordan Cameron

  7. Hey seatown…See how this works? Play good, get a good contract. Or, the sheattle way…Have a decent year, then cry for a new contract.

Not so much as long as they are able to run the football. I’d rather have 11+ win season along with a 130+ yard per game rushing offense and a good defense INSTEAD of a 1,000 yard TE who’s a liability in the run game and another 7-9 season.

I wonder if they did the Kraft Specialty where you underpay a guy but give him more money under the table.

Kraft Specialty? even though the Broncos were the ones caught doing that?

I would have expected opposing fans to be smarter than that. Seattle basically telegraphs what the next play will be. Sometimes it doesn’t work (as in the final play of the Superbowl-I could see pass coming and I started yelling at the TV before anyone else). But most the time, it’s a run play and Lynch just runs over the defense. It’s smash-mouth football. Seahawks say “we’re going to run it, try and stop us”.

Also, it doesn’t matter that Graham isn’t a good blocker. Seattle isn’t known for having tremendous blocking tight ends. Zach Miller was the best blocking TE in recent years, but he’s gone now. So, they’ll just go back to running the ball straight over your defense because your team can’t stop Marshawn.

  11. Now they are right back at the salary cap limit! They will never learn.
Who will they cut or trade next year! lmao
They need to cut Mr. Lame Arm………

The Saints have to increase cash spending these next two years to avoid a CBA penalty for underspending. This transaction kills two birds with one stone.

  14. Excellent move by the Saints. DANG IT!

Well, they’re still expecting real contributions from Jarius Byrd, so the Panthers should stay safely in first place.

    Panthers 41

    Saints 10

If you know so much about the Panthers and who they play, you’d also know they play twice a year (same division of course). Now, list the score of the first game…..

    Lombardi Trophies:
    Saints 1
    Panthers 0

  16. 50/50 that he’ll be complaining about his contract after the first two years of that front-loaded deal are up.

    Its the NFL way…

Just like the Panthers are expecting real contributions from their soon to be $20M per year QB who has yet to make it past the divisional round in the playoffs. 1st place last two years with still no championships to show for it!!! LOL

  18. Someone with a little brain still can’t comprehend that no one really remembers division winners, especially mediocre ones. They remember Super Bowl champions. Typical statement from someone who has yet experience winning anything.

  19. were rumors at draft time that the Giants were trying to pry this guy away from NO with a 3rd or even 2nd round pick. obviously never happened, and I personally think the Giants nailed their first 3 picks anyway. but what a boom or bust pass rush that would be with jpp and Jordan. QBs would either have a QBR of 99 or 1 every game. no middle ground. oh well. good move by NO keeping this kid in town. until next year then….

  20. “Win the division back to back years then talk until then the panthers are your masters.”

Get back at me when you get a Super Bowl ring. Until then your on the same level as the Browns, Falcons, Jags, Titans, etc. But hey, go ahead and celebrate the little things in life. You have to when you have nothing to celebrate.

You really need to learn how the salary cap works! If the Saints cut “Mr. Lame Arm” (a Super Bowl winning MVP), his salary for the next two years IMMEDIATELY goes against the cap.
    WHO DAT and GEAUX SAINTS!

FYI We are EXACTLY 100 days away from the start of the NFL regular season (Steelers vs Patriots, the reigning SB champs)

  22. Seahawks paid us a probowl Center AND a 1st round pick for Graham even though Brees made Graham lol….. Now that’s a head scratcher by the Seahawks…

  23. There they go again, spending money they don’t have on a middling player at best.

  24. Middle player that’s funny… He’s one of the best DEs in the league and for sure better than anything on the Falcons roster…. Money they don’t have? Saints parlayed that strategy to a Super Bowl win. What has your team done lol

  25. I really can’t believe all the haters there are out there. We won a SB without Graham and have won regular season games without him as well. Back to back division Champs???? Hahahaha, what a joke to be celebrating that !!!! Jarius Byrd=Better than any Safety on the Panthers roster.

  26. Good for him and his family. I thought I was the only person thinking he was horrible last season.
It’s been a great week to sign a new contract if your name is Cam.

People are complaining about Cam Newton’s contract, but I definitely don’t see a DL worth this much money. Didn’t the Saints just clean up its cap situation?
