Randall Cobb: It will be hard to top what I did last year

At this time last year, Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb was entering the final year of his contract and worried that one bad break could leave him rehabbing a serious injury rather than signing a long-term deal.

Those concerns don’t exist this year. Cobb signed a four-year deal to remain in Green Bay after catching 91 passes for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns for the NFC North champs. That lifts expectations about what the future will bring for Cobb, but while he thinks no one can “set expectations higher than my own” Cobb also thinks it will be tough for him to put up the same numbers.

“Davante [Adams] coming along, that adds a target, and he’s going to get more targets,” Cobb said, via the team’s website. “I look forward to this receiving corps. We’ve got a great offense, a lot of weapons. It’s going to be hard to top what I did last year.”

That might not wind up being a bad thing for the Packers, however. Cobb, Adams and Jordy Nelson all return from last year and the team hopes that Jeff Janis, Jared Abbrederis and 2015 third-rounder Ty Montgomery can be contributors in the offense as well. If Adams takes an expected step forward in his second season and the latter trio impresses, an already good offense will have an embarrassment of riches for Aaron Rodgers to work with.
