Cops find Brandon Spikes’ car abandoned after “hitting a deer”

Getty Images

It hasn’t taken Brandon Spikes long to make an impact upon his return to New England.

Or at least his car, anyway.

According to FOX 25 in Boston, a car registered to the Patriots linebacker was found abandoned on the highway early Sunday morning, around the time another car was hit on the highway.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, state troopers responded to an abandoned 2011 Maybach on I-495 in Foxborough. Police said an OnStar representative told them the driver of the car reported hitting a deer. While troopers did not find a deer in the vicinity (or a driver), there was a report of a 2009 Nissan Murano being hit from behind nearby.

The Maybach with front end damage but no visible antlers is registered to Spikes, who just re-signed with the Patriots.

  1. Please just another bunch of lies I guess. Where were the remains of the poor deer???? What a load of rubbish. Where was the driver, missing in action because of alcohol?????

  2. Oh, a deer. For a second there I thought it was a dog.

He’ll at least still have a job.

  3. maybe his tires were not properly inflated. hey-o!

good job avoiding a DUI though!

Notice how this never happens to any Minnesota Vikings players?

It’s because they are good people.

And good on the field too.

Pft, every comments that coming from you is grossly overrated.

  5. Ban him from the league and a life sentence in prison! We’ve got to teach these 20 something year old players that they have to be perfect!

Vikings players just abuse children. Nice choice “poet”

  8. He shouldn’t have wished for a million bucks. You know how literal those genies can be,

  9. The league may take a 2nd round pick and increase Brady’s suspension. That makes about as much sense as anything else they’ve done recently.
Spikes might not even make the team.

    —-

Must have been out to lunch on the whole party boat orgy scandal. Really good on the field has not been used to describe the Vikings in a while. You really don’t know much about the Vikings, do you?

  11. You remember when the Vikings were super bowl champions?

Knock knock. Who’s there? Super bowl champions. Super bowl champions who? Oh sorry we are the Vikings.

  12. Stay tuned for Belichick’s PC where he explains how hitting a deer can leave paint residue on a car and make the driver become invisible.

Robert Kraft demands an apology from all of you.

  13. But seriously folks, he was a model citizen in Buffalo, one week with the Pats and he’s on a drunken rampage, running over innocence civilians, blaming innocence deer, and dodgin’ Johhny Law so he doesn’t end up in Shawshank with Hernandez and Brady. When will the league, and Goodell, drop they’re accessory before, during and after the fact with this hoodlum cabal and decertify the club, for the good of the population at large? What about the children?

  14. I can’t wait to read about how this is just a big Roger Goodell led conspiracy against the Patriots.

When is the “Free Brandon Spikes” rally planned for?

  15. This is all easily explained…after the accident spikes said “like a good neighbor State Farm is there”, then instantly he was teleported from the scene of the crime.

  16. Odds are better that the Browns win the Super Bowls than no alcohol played a role. “Early Sunday morning”

  17. When you just leave a half a million dollar car on the side of the road anywhere for any reason, you were freaking drunk.

  18. Leaving the scene of an accident is much more palitable than DWI. Of course, DWI is a sub human, degenerate, low life thing to do.

  19. No antlers? Really?? Sounds like a city boy writing this. Deer shed their antlers every winter after the rut and may just now start growing them back. Additionally doe have no antlers.

Also Deer have been known to run as far as a mile after getting hit by cars… they are a lot sturdier than people realize. Nothing suspicious about no antlers or no dead deer on the scene.

(check the local dinner there for the road kill Venison special…)

  20. driving drunk,, hit another vehicle, put blame on deer and abandon car hoping police are too stupid to track down owner….release from the Patriots to follow shortly..

  21. In other words, he was drunk and ran off to sober up in order to avoid a DUI. Not a bad strategy if nobody is around. It’s worked before.

    Deer often survive a collision.

    ————————–

True. You should see what a Moose does to a car. He just gets up and walks away.

There would be deer hairs in the grill though.

So the haters think it was a drunk driving hit and run?

    I’m taking a poll.

driving drunk,, hit another vehicle, put blame on deer and abandon car hoping police are too stupid to track down owner….release from the Patriots to follow shortly..

    ##################################

    Probably true.

  24. It is possible to hit a deer and not kill it. But it is impossible to hit a deer and not have deer hair on your car. Plus there will also be hair at the impact site. Any police officer can tell if the damage was caused by soft tissue or a hard object. Time will tell if he really hit a deer or something else.

  25. Too bad. Spikes was excited about returning to the Patriots and it looked as if he could play effectively, especially early in the season when other key players might not be back from injury.

But it will not take the cops long at all to figure out if the Spikes car hit the other one and who it was that was driving and called OnStar. If Spikes was drunk, hit the other car, and walked away, even lied about the deer, he would be in real trouble with the law and also in for a long NFL suspension. The Patriots will cut him at once.

Stupidity, if this is what happened, and it is lucky no one was seriously hurt or killed.

  26. What spikes did was lone the car to Google for their driverless car research. All of you haters just want to crucify the guy for being a pioneer in driverless car technology.

  27. I’m going to guess that Spikes doesn’t drive a year old Nissan. It’s likely a buddy’s car, or a Baby Mama. (always wanted to use baby momma in a sentence).

  28. Why are they looking for the whole deer? All you need is some fur or some blood. Or paint and scratches from the other car.

A deer that is only injured can sometimes go quite a distance before it falls. And traffic/accident recreation officers should have no trouble telling the difference between impact marks coming from something as inflexible as a vehicle and something as pliable as a living creature.

Besides, people who hit deer don’t generally flee the scene if that is all that is going on.

  30. So the haters think it was a drunk driving hit and run?

I’m a Pats fan for 35 years, and it sounds like a drunk driving hit and run to me, based on the article at least.

    Brady I’ll speak up for.

    Spikes, not so much.

  31. So he hit another car, not a deer. Where is the other driver of the Nissan. DUI or some other substance and then pay off the other driver. Who’s doing the investigation?

  32. “Around the same time that the OnStar operator called police, a family reported being hit by a car from behind. The family could not see who hit them. All three people were taken to the hospital for examination and treatment.” From the Boston Herald.com. Oh Boy, here we go again.

  33. Was the deer in an elevator? We need video. After impact was the deer thrown onto a bed of guns? Did Brandon get out of his car and proceed to switch the deer for being bad? Has the deer since retired? Is the deer the “blood of the city”?

  34. They couldn’t find the deer because it had been deflated.

Stupid is as stupid does. And it looks like Spikes did stupid.

Not to worry, though. Massachusetts has always been lenient on people who crash their cars and then split the scene. Anyone remember Ted Kennedy? He got a two month jail sentence for leaving the scene of the accident in which his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne suffocated as she lay in his car under water, unable to free herself. The judge then suspended the sentence because of Kennedy’s outstanding character.
His wallet helped too, no doubt. The Kopechne family was taken care of with Kennedy money and no autopsy was ever performed on her.

So I’d say Spikes will come out of this just fine.

  35. The reason Pftpoet does not remember Randy Moss, and the Love Boat, is because he is probably 14 . His trolling will be over soon, school will be back in session after his summer break

  36. Cadlow, Aaron Hernandez was arrested for MURDER less than two years ago bud. Do not do a Two Year timeline of arrests in the league and forget that a Patriot committed MURDER.

  37. “…2 yrs worth of arrests and legal problems not one patriot…”

This is why we need the turd watch standings by team back…all this blasting of the Patriots when really, they’ve only had one bad apple kill a few low lifes, but other than that, they’ve been pretty good law abiding citizens…

  38. “…. And traffic/accident recreation officers should have no trouble telling the difference between impact marks coming from something as inflexible as a vehicle and something as pliable as a living creature.”
    ================================
As a frequent traveler of that section of highway, there are lots of car/deer collisions occurring – usually worse in the fall. It’s not a pretty sight after a meeting between a deer and an 18 wheeler. Anyways, the State Police, who have a barracks in Foxboro, have lots of experience in these matters.

  39. The author pretty much makes this point: athlete out late Sunday night, hits car, claims it was a deer, leaves expensive car behind until drugs or alcohol wears off. End of story.

News to the haters. 2 yrs worth of arrests and legal problems not one patriot.

    =
I seem to remember one tiny incident where your star tight end murdered a number of people.

  41. @cadlow,
You really should think about getting a life.

Ignorining the cheating issues, fines, suspensions etc. Is comical.

Ignoring a serial murderer is a little delusional.

There are a lot of very weird Pats fans out there

  42. I actually think this is kind of sweet. Spikes is trying his hardest to reunite with his friend and former college and NFL teammate by sharing a cell with him. It’s really no different that Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo if you think about it.

  43. I like Brandon Spikes… I hope everything ends up working out for him with this. No, not a Pats fan, a Bills fan who thinks he is a good guy and that he is judged unfairly by many. Anyways, he only went back to NE because opportunities were knocking and Buffalo was only going to use him as a 1-2 down player, NE will use him FT. He loved his year in Buffalo.

  44. The reality of having a head coach that cheats makes players think they can cheat too. The players can’t hide it or should I say Goodell can’t hide it as well…….right Brady?

  45. The good part of this story is that it gives PFTPoet the chance to show that he still has the ability to troll in all these fish. Hats off to the master.

  46. You can’t blame him for lying. The organization he works for embraces lying and cheating the facts. He is just following the lead. I hope the young man is telling the truth but rarely do we hear true facts from his associates and employer.

  47. All you on here bashing the Patriots think you know how thet operate but by the comments it’s pretty clear you don’t. I f Spikes was involved he will be out of a job by the end of the day tomorrow, just like Hernandez who was cut between the time they arrested him at his house and he arrived at the police station.

  48. Wells Report*: Brady was “generally aware” of the deer’s whereabouts.

  49. So this is how players get deer antler spray!

Myself, I’d use a cheaper car, but to each his own.

    @Mr. Craig

    Seasonally of course.

  50. The Pats are becoming the NFL’s Otis of the Andy Griffith Show. Goodell should just give them their own key to lock themselves up every night to save time.

  51. ‘Notice how this never happens to any Minnesota Vikings players?

It’s because they are good people.

And good on the field too.

I assumed that was very dry snark, given what Adrian Peterson did last year.

  52. This is revenge for the use of Deer Antler Velvet by Ray Lewis. #OpenSeasonOnLinebackers

  53. ‘It is possible to hit a deer and not kill it. But it is impossible to hit a deer and not have deer hair on your car. ‘

I’ve done it. My neighborhood is overrun with deer. One even ran into _my_ car while I was taking a turn. No hair was left.

I have no idea what happened here, nor does anybody else. Some details here would be useful. For starters, how far away from the rear-ended car was Spikes’ car found? “The same highway” could be 50 miles away.

It really shouldn’t be hard for an insurance adjuster to tell whether Spikes hit a deer or another car. They are two completely different kinds of accidents, and with the other car identified, it should be fairly easy to tell if Spikes is lying.

Oh, and haters? This has nothing to do with being on the Patriots.

  54. Looking at the photo makes me think this wasn’t a deer. That’s a bit too much damage for a deer to walk away from.

  55. LOL, #DEERHITANDRUNGATE.
PAT FANS; It wasn’t him. You have no evidence. He would never do that. Everyone hits a deer and runs.
    I can hear it already.

Btw, drunk/drugged driving reason he ran.

  56. Lance Alworth just checked in to assure everyone that he’s home and resting comfortably.

  57. He must have been really drunk to run into the back of car while driving on the highway……now lets see if he can find a sucker to say they were driving his car, hope that was a big contract he signed with NE he’s going to need it…time is running out…..

  58. He might of not been drunk, he could of just been buzzed. If anything it would of been more plausible if he went off into the woods, if the highway goes through a woody area (I live in Jersey so most of ours do) and lose myself because of “shock” and “head trauma”..just enough to sober up.

  59. I think Goodell needs to hire Wells for 5 million to tell us absolutly nothing again…

  60. Looking at the Maybach damage photo, no deer collision causes that much damage. His alibi will soon be, forgive me, deflated. He’s in a heap o’ trouble. Another bald faced lying NFL player. The cops must be licking cop chops on this one.

  61. He hit a deer? Maybe a doe? Really? Reminds me of a song…

Dough – The stuff that buys me beer
Ray – The guy who sells me beer
Me – The one who drinks the beer
Fa – A long way to my beer
    So – I think I’ll have a beer
La – la la la la la beer
Tea – No thanks, I’m drinking beer
That will leave me with no Dough

  62. Did he hit the deer? Did the deer hit him? Did the deer have some kind of agenda against Nissan Muranos? I don’t claim to be the Bambi’s mom of deer…

    – Bill B. prepping for his presser…

  63. NFL Refs: we have off-setting personal fouls. Personal foul on Brandon Spikes for running into the deer. Personal Foul on the deer for fleeing the scene of a car accident and inflicting damage to the vehicle.

    Penalties offset. First Down.

  64. Correction by the NFL refs after consulting with Blandino:

We have a correction on the last penalty: personal foul on Brandon Spikes for running into the deer and fleeing the scene of a car accident. Personal foul on the deer for damage to a moving vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Penalties offset. Spike and the deer are ejected. Replay 1st down.

  65. “Please just another bunch of lies I guess. Where were the remains of the poor deer???? What a load of rubbish.”

The truth is that when you hit a deer with your car the deer does not always die or even go down on impact,I have hit two deer at night and searched for them with my flashlight after stopping abruptly, nothing but some deer hair on by bumper so dont presume all hit deer die instantly, many run off to die in the woods of internal injuries.as for Spikes, the fact that he didnt stick around and wait for the cops does make him seem like he is hiding a DUI,smart,

  66. “It really shouldn’t be hard for an insurance adjuster to tell whether Spikes hit a deer or another car.”

Deer just do not leave scraped off paint on a car that collided with another though they do leave hair and crap on the car that they collide with.
