Adrian Peterson’s wife would have preferred being closer to Oklahoma

Throughout the offseason Adrian Peterson ordeal, Paul Allen of KFAN (the “HE’S LOOSE!” voice of the Vikings) expressed his opinion that the apparent effort to get out of Minnesota originated with Peterson’s wife. While she hasn’t confirmed Allen’s suspicions clearly, Mrs. Peterson has admitted that she wanted a change of scenery.

“I just would personally, for me, I would’ve preferred to be closer to home,” Peterson’s wife, Ashley, told Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com on the latest “Adrian Peterson Day” in his hometown of Palestine, Texas. “That’s just a personal preference for me. The Vikings have been supportive of him and the fans have been pretty supportive, so we’re happy to be going back.”

Reports surfaced in recent months that Adrian Peterson believed Vikings COO Kevin Warren worked with the league to keep Peterson off the field in 2014. Adrian Peterson and Warren have yet to clear the air.

“I really haven’t had the opportunity to talk to Kevin Warren, but I will,” Peterson said. “Right now I’m focused on football. I’m focused on controlling the things that I can control.”

Neither Warren nor the Vikings could have controlled the situation in 2014; by all appearances and indications, the NFL had no desire to allow Peterson to return last season following the resolution of felony child-abuse charges arising from the spanking of his son. Peterson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges in early November so that, as a first-time offender, he could rejoin the team for the stretch run.

The team definitely could have used him. Going 7-9 without Peterson, the addition of one of the best running backs in league history could have allowed the Vikings to steal a playoff berth.

  1. Good Lord! She can afford to fly whenever she wants, as often as she wants. He’s made so much money playing for the Vikings, he could buy her an airplane if he felt like it. Talk about someone being painfully clueless. Really, the Vikes should just let him go now because that’s what would be the most convenient for HER? Forget all the time and money they’ve invested in him, and the high pick spent on him. Forget the other 52 guys, the coaching staff, and the many thousands of fans. She’d like to live closer to home, so everyone else should drop everything to make that happen. Grow up, you spoiled brat.

  2. “Adrian Peterson’s wife would have preferred being closer to Oklahoma.”

but his girlfriend is so happy he’s staying in Minnesota.

  3. I have said it all along. It is his WIFE the whole time. He just got married a year+ ago. Minnesota has been his playground with the ladies for 7 years now. Children’s Moms and side kick girlfriends. There is no way his Wife would want him to play in MN. She will have to be by his side 24/7 now LOL

  4. The fans have been “pretty much supportive”.

Just let that sink in a while.

  5. Please stop reporting about Adrian Peterson. It’s hard to think positive thoughts when I’m reminded of this guy.

  6. Can’t blame her. No one would realistically want to make their home in Minnesota. Get the money from them and get out.

  7. You can’t blame Mrs. Peterson for wanting to live close to hime. The only problem is that there aren’t too many $13,000,000/year jobs available in Oklahoma.

They are doing what they need to do though, so it’s no big deal.

  8. Lost in all of this hoopla with Peterson is the fact that he beat his child with a weapon to the point of causing lacerations and bleeding. Yet, for some reason that I can’t figure out, nobody seems to give a crap that he did it.

  9. I still can’t believe that Peterson stuffed leaves into the mouth of his 4 year old son to stifle his cries of agony as he beat him bloody with a stick.

And the fans of the Vikings support him 100%.
    Truly sad and pathetic.

  10. “Lost in all of this hoopla with Peterson is the fact that he beat his child with a weapon to the point of causing lacerations and bleeding. Yet, for some reason that I can’t figure out, nobody seems to give a crap that he did it.”

It wasn’t lost and we all had our reaction to it.

Just not going to harp about it for eternity.

  11. His wife should be quiet, go away, or both. But, she obviously can’t trust AP not to father a bunch more kids if she isn’t keeping tabs on him, so she won’t do either.

  12. Happy wife happy life. It’s your life AP, do whatever makes you and your family happy. I could careless what some of these clowns think!!

  13. so some people just cant get over what he did thats fine just means you cant let the past go he paid for what he did you don’t have to be a fan its your choice millions more will take your place if you don’t like it work on changing the laws if your unwilling to do that don’t open your mouth till then quit dwelling in the past.

  14. I know many other Vikings fans that share my wish to see Peterson vanish forever. I wish the organization didn’t value you him so much or he’d be in Dallas.

Sorry but one year paid vacation and a welcome back party doesn’t even come close to paying for what he did. The man shouldn’t be living a free life where he gets paid millions to play a game, he should be in prison.

  16. The reactions here really are ridiculous. So his wife would have preferred to be closer to family? That’s what my wife said when my company transferred me across the country. It’s really not a surprise. The surprise is that so many people here managed to work up their anger over this story.

  17. Holy crap, a wife preferring to live closer to her home? How completely unusual and unreasonable. Next thing you know she’ll be preferring even more ridiculous stuff like world peace and rescuing abandoned puppies.

First, I’m guessing what got “twisted off” were the punctuation keys from your keyboard. Ooh boy, was that ever a run-on sentence.

Second, if you think being suspended while still collecting your paycheck is “paying for what he did” then I don’t know what to tell you.

Wow, someone would prefer being closer to Oklahoma? I live here. Its pretty horrible.

The closest team to Oklahoma geographically is The Cowboys. She had her hopes up for a Dallas trade.

  20. AP’s agent’s statement: Jerry Jones
    AP’s wife’s statement: Jerry Jones

And I don’t blame anyone involved. AP could push for the rushing record in Dallas.

Well I do blame AP a little. The fans choose your nickname, you don’t. And the whole beating your child with a stick thing, probably stop doing that.

  21. The closest team to Oklahoma geographically is The Cowboys. She had her hopes up for a Dallas trade.

That depends in where jn Oklahoma. The Chiefs are right up the road

  22. I can take years of losing and still support my Raiders as long as their giving effort. If they had welcomed a piece of trash like Peterson back to their team I’d be done.

  23. I’m just looking forward to seeing one of the greatest running backs in NFL history back on the field. The Vikings look to have a formidable team this year if the second year quarterback Bridgewater can step up another level.

  24. I would have preferred she was closer to her 4 year old son to try to stop Peterson from abusing him.

  25. This isn’t the worst thing in the world she could say. If you’re from Oklahoma, I’m sure the 9-month winters in Minneapolis would be a major shock. Also, Adrian wants to play for the Cowboys too, so I’m not mad at her for hinting at that either.

Problem for the Petersons is that he’s going to have to agree to cut his salary in half to make a trade work. And I don’t see that happening.

  26. She’s a dope. AP is one of the top 3 RB’s in the league in the last 15 years, not even of question. But to switch a kid until he’s bloody & as he cries you stuff leaves in his mouth to stifle him?? AP has serious issues. He should have done time for his actions, year off with pay is no punishment for physically abusing a child, especially the cruelty shown in regards to the post-beating pictures. Sad part is he & many of his supporters have been almost self-righteous about it, as if people have no right to think his actions are abhorrent. Besides the actual act which was awful enough, the lack of punishment & the things said in his defense are extremely disturbing.

I believe what he was trying to say is that AP went through the courts and got his case resolved. His job and his legal issues are two separate things. By the way, I do agree with you about the run-on sentence.

  28. One. NOBODY KNOWS WHAT HE ACTUALLY DID

Two. BELIEVE ANYTHING, particularly when he was set up by an overzealous mall cop to catch a battery case prior to this.

Three. SO GODDAMN WHAT. It wasnt your kid, and if the Vikings thought it was so bad, why didnt THEY RELEASE HIM OUTRIGHT.

    Hypocrites.
