Seahawks pass rusher Bruce Irvin acknowledges there’s some truth to the persistent talk that he’d like to play in his home town of Atlanta. But he also says he’d love to stay in Seattle.

Irvin told reporters today that reports that he wants to play for the Falcons have come from people misunderstanding him when he talks about how much he loves his home town.

“I want to be in Seattle,” Irvin said. “Obviously, my words got misinterpreted. In 2012 I had a lot of questions before the draft. Pete [Carroll] and John [Schneider] stuck their necks out for me and took me in the first round, so why wouldn’t I want to be here? I’m from Atlanta, my whole family is still in Atlanta. It’s every kid’s dream to play for their home team, but right now I’m in Seattle, I love Seattle, and hopefully that’s for the rest of my career.”

Irvin said he was glad to get back to work at the Seahawks’ minicamp.

“I woke up happy because I haven’t been around my brothers,” he said. “I’m like a kid right before Christmas, happy to be back, happy to contribute, happy to handle my business.”

Irvin will keep doing his business in Seattle. At least until he becomes a free agent in nine months.
