Report: Andrew Quarless arrested in Miami for firing a gun, twice

Another Packers player may not be available as of Week One.

With Datone Jones suspended and Letroy Guion likely the next to be disciplined, Green Bay tight end Andrew Quarless has joined the march to the sidelines after reportedly being arrested in Miami on Saturday morning.

According to the Miami New Times, Quarless was involved in a fight at South Beach, which allegedly prompted him to fire a gun twice into the ground. He tried to flee, but Quarless was apprehended by a pair of police officers.

A spokesman for the Miami Police Department confirmed the arrest and its detail to the New Times. An incident report is expected to be released later today.

Under the new Personal Conduct Policy, Quarless could be headed for paid leave pending the resolution of these charges and the imposition of league discipline. Thereafter, he’d potentially serve an unpaid suspension.

Quarless appeared in 16 games with 11 starts in 2014, catching 29 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns.

  1. This is the REAL reason why coaches want extended off-season OTA activities. And this is why players cannot handle being left on their own. They can’t seem to act like we’ll rounded adults.

  2. This is good. Datone the bum Jones won’t be missed. Giuon will be missed and Quarles – also know as clueless, will be missed because they are still trying to get him to play the position after letting two good TE’s leave.

At least now the Pack fans will have an excuse for the team going 0-5 to start the season.

  3. I wonder where Andrew will be playing this year. Thanks for you years of service with the Packers.

  4. Looks like there might be more Packers in jail/suspended than on the football field this year!

  5. What the heck is going on in Green Bay?

    Guion, jones, now quarless…

Wow…how quickly the wheels come off.

  6. There must be a gas leak in Miami, or something, everything stupid happens down there.

  7. Wait, that can’t be. Packer fans are always on here telling us how their team is as pure as the wind drive snow. Something is amiss.

  8. I wouldn’t be shocked to learn he has been cut sometime before the end of the weekend. Maybe not, though. I can’t figure out why Guion is still there when he’s been competent but not much more.

  9. Never fear Packer fans..As planned..The 2016 Green Bay Super Bowl Victory Party is still set for July 20, 2015

  10. What the heck is going on in Green Bay?

    Guion, jones, now quarless…

Wow…how quickly the wheels come off………………………………

    Your forgot Bush…

  11. mi-GEE,

get some Miami edu – ma – cation from lebatard. Miami and Miami beach are separate jurisdictions. south beach is part of Miami beach. a south beach incident would be Miami beach PD, not Miami.

  12. He tried to flee, but Quarless was apprehended by a pair of police officers…

No wonder he can’t beat linebackers…

  13. He’s hardly a lock at his position — not the best move for the guy.

And I’m a lifelong Packers fan (sold hot dogs at Milwaukee home games).

  14. I wouldn’t be shocked to learn he has been cut sometime before the end of the weekend. Maybe not, though. I can’t figure out why Guion is still there when he’s been competent but not much more…

Because Ngata, and Wilfolk were much too expensive and not needed with the extensive defensive talent of the “All Toking” defensive line…

  15. He’s hardly a lock at his position — not the best move for the guy.

And I’m a lifelong Packers fan (sold hot dogs at Milwaukee home games)…

The inevitable “distancing” has begun…In two weeks it will be debated if he was ever a Green Bay Rodger…

  16. Quarless is a good blocker with stone hands. He will be fired within the week.

  17. Idiot. Way to boast about how good you are all offseason and then blow it all on one drunken night. Puts himself in the same category as a certain New Engand tight end, I do as well……but I don’t think we are thinking of the same guy!

    Richard Rodgers time.

  18. Firing a gun into the ground is illegal? Next thing you know stabbing the ground with a knife will be illegal.

  19. And this team was just favored for the SB? They seem to be undisciplined off the field.

  20. Very disappointing. I’ll never understand the fascination these athletes have with guns and alcohol.

I’m seriously thankful that nobody was hurt.
Andrew will just have to pay the consequences for his poor decision.

  21. This is the type of thing that made me think the Pats should have held on to Tim Wright. Someone would trade a 7th round pick for him sooner or later. But, I wouldn’t presume to tell Bill how to manage his roster. I am sure he has his reasons and he doesn’t feel the need to share them them.

  22. TT should release him immediately if the accusations are true… that’s the difference between the Packers and our little sisters to the west, we do not condone illegal behavior…. or better yet reward it.

  23. You can take the boy out of the project’s to play football but you can never take the project’s out of said boy

  24. Wow G B has sure signed some really really smart players lmao . going to lead the league in arrests this year it looks like

  25. Should have stayed around Green Bay, where the local law enforcement would have just taken him home, and the NFL would have never known about it.

  26. I guess I really don’t understand why firing a gun into the ground is illegal, especially if you’re doing it midfight in an attempt to end conflict. We’ll find out sooner or later whether this was like the recent Miami video where a fight occured but the NFL player was just defending or he was a drunk idiot shooting the ground to inure Gaia.

As a Packer fan, I hope it’s the former.

  27. Simple solution if you really wanna end this stupidity. NFl and NFLPA makes it clear, fire a weapon thats not in self defense in public, you’re banned from the NFL for life, contract is voided. See, was that all that hard !

  28. Don’t get too excited. Unless Aaron Rodgers gets arrested/suspended, the Packers are still better than your team.

  29. Maybe he had a legally owned firearm and fired it into the ground to defuse a situation that was about to turn ugly. I’ll wait for the facts.

  30. Guys is average. I am glad this happened. That means more playing time for Richard Rodgers, who is twice as good. Quarless has only remained on the team by default. He sucks.

  31. Stay in Green Bay and cause your problems there, and don’t drink.
Probably was up to no good on South Beach with a gun.

  32. No way he gets cut if he didnt hurt anyone. Hes the presumptive starter. But, hes in a contract year and he just discounted himself by about 35 percent.

You said it all as a Packer fan..Aaron Rodgers is the Packers…if injured for a year…receive a top 5 draft pick

  34. Never fear Viking fans..As planned..Your two annual Super Bowls against the Packers aren’t too far off.

As harsh as that is, it doesn’t seem like it should be an unreasonably request. But you know we will hear about 4 or 5 guys every year arguing like 4th graders about how it wasn’t their fault.

  36. Early AM, firing a gun? Good way to get yourself or someone else killed. Big time stupid. The Packers don’t need someone that brings down the collective IQ like that. Cut him.

    Next man up.

  37. Andrew had issues in the past. Thought this garbage was over sadly it isnt.

  38. Really dumb on his part, the Packers are not a team that puts up with this kind of stupid stuff and all the negative publicity it brings. I’ve always been glad that the Packers tend to stay our of the headlines during the off season, you never see players on twitter bashing other players because the team doesn’t put up with it, it’s much better than seeing someone brag about their skills and compare themselves to some top 3 player at the position to then get beat by the person they said they could shut down. So regardless of the charges in this case, it may only be a misdemeanor, I think his time in Green Bay is over, he’s lucky they didn’t try to say it was attempted murder or something like that, but I think the fact that he didn’t shoot at or near the people and instead shot in the air saved him there. It’s possible he did it to break up a the argument if it escalated, but honestly, I don’t think it matters, I really don’t think the team will put up with it knowing their attitude on this kind of stuff. TE really isn’t looking good this season, Richard Rodgers is a good blocking TE because of his size, but we need another athletic player on the inside like Jermichael Finley prior to his injury, I think he could have become one of the best, but the injuries prior and then his spinal cord injury killed his career. Maybe Ty Montgomery is open to trying TE since he’s at best 4th string for WR when you look at Nelson, Cobb and Adams.

  39. What I am most interested in is Ted Thompson’s next move. Quarless never did have top end speed for a TE and was only average at blocking and the Packers picked a TE in this year’s draft so it would suprise me in the least if he is gone by Monday.

The one thing the Packers need to do is get all the facts first so at least it looks like Quarless gets his due process. But unless there is a lot more to this story, he’s will be gone by next week.

The plus side is that being an ex-Packer, he’s likely to be signed by the Vikings immediately.

  40. The ground has hired Jeffrey Kessler and is suing Quarless for attempted murder

  41. The 49ers have a boatload of TE’s on the roster right now. There might be a trade, or the Packers can pick one up once the cuts are made.

Some Niners’ fans are even hoping that Vernon Davis is one of the guys who’ll be gone, after his disappearing act/lead hands last year.

  42. He’s just a responsible, law abiding gun owner exercising his 2nd Amendment rights.

    Next stop, Minnesota.

  43. “……..this is how we roll in gbay”

They have no medical program, they have no drug avoidance program, and now they have PIJL (Player in Jail List).

Great examples for kids and society in general…….

Ladies and gentleman, YOUR gbay felons!!!!!!!!!!

Not likely. With Lacy and that O line they could pull 8-8 as a run first team with Tolzien. But if whatifs make you feel better about the Packers smoking your team on a regular basis, have at it.

Not real likely, but possible. Waiting for facts is always a good idea. What amazes me is that he had a firearm, it went bang 2x, cops showed up and he’s still vertical.

  46. What is wrong with these guys? Boggles the mind to me.Everyone carrying a weapon weather its legally or not Damn this guy is 27 years old and should know better but this is the way of life in the present NFL.Never heard of this crap going on back in the 6os 70s 80s 90s

  47. The NFL arrest rate is getting SO bad. And the charges sure aren’t slap on the wrist type charges. BIG ROG better get things turned around, & quick!

  48. I thought this kind of thing didn’t happen to the high and mighty Packers.

  49. Nothing good happens after midnight. Imagine what would have happened if Max McGee and Paul Hornung were playing in these times. They would be suspended for most of the year….

Yes as a Packer fan, I’m disappointed in these guys but just because you wear Green and Gold doesn’t mean you become a Saint. Young men with lots of money can make poor choices. Men of good character can make bad choices, especially when EtOH is involved.

  50. Not only do the packers make bone head decisions on the field they are making them off. Should have beat the Seachickens and then we wouldn’t have to put up with the Asterix brothers blowing about another tarnished championship. On a more serious note what a total pleb for firing a gun. Really this has to show how this guys mind works needs to be kicked out of the league. Only bad things happen when guns are involved.

  51. @kvnlstd—if things continue to go down the cheese hole, we won’t be ur little sisters for very long.

@dd393 and @whatjusthapped—don’t delude yourselves. Zimmer would never put up with a slimeball who fires a gun, not once but twice, in a public place.

  52. I like how everybody takes one poor choice by one player and attaches it to the whole team.

  53. The Packers now face the very real possibility of being without three somewhat significant contributors for their regular-season opener against Chicago. DE Datone Jones is already gone, having been suspended for one game for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy; DT Letroy Guion is awaiting word on whether or not he will be suspended under the personal-conduct policy for his February arrest; and now Quarless, who is expected to share the TE job with Richard Rodgers, is in the same situation after the incident he was involved in.

As a Minnesota Vikings fan, I hope Green Bay’s coaching and front office staff can get a handle on this situation quickly. I want NO EXCUSES coming from the cheesehead fans when the Vikings whip the snot out of their beloved pack 2x this year.
